Prompt: Tell a tale directly related to Cor and Aravis' wedding.

Chapter 2: The Prince, the Prince! Tradition!

When the Lady Aravis announces her intent to wed in Calormene dress, it causes barely a ripple. The court of Archenland is long used to seeing her don southern fashions whenever she pleases, and in the years since she arrived it has become quite ordinary for other nobles to pepper their clothing with a Calormene flavor as well.

When the Prince Cor announces his intent to wed in Calormene dress, it sends the court into a tizzy for a week.

"It's not traditional," sniffs Lady Melanys, the head seamstress. "The heir of Archenland has always been wed in the doublet of Col the Sixth or the cloak of Larina the Second."

Cor points out that neither is it traditional for the heir of Archenland to wed a Calormene noble. (He makes a note to invite Meralda Beaver to be chief wedding tailor.)

"It's not traditional," harrumphs Lord Barrin, the huntsmaster. "The heir of Archenland ought to be attired as the ruler of Archenland, not of Calormen."

Cor points out that neither is it traditional for the heir of Archenland to be kidnapped as an infant and raised as a slave in Calormen. (He restrains himself from reminding Barrin that this is all his brother's fault, anyway.)

"'Tis not traditional!" exclaims King Lune, clapping his son heartily on the shoulder. "Yet methinks 'twill suit the pair of you nicely."

"The court does not seem to think so," Cor says with pardonable irritation.

Lune snorts. "The court is a fickle thing in matters of fashion and may think as it pleases; 'tis no true sign one way or another. Do as thou wish, and they will soon overcome their quibbles."

"It's not traditional," says Aravis Tarkheena, as they watch the stars. "But you know, Shasta, neither are we."

And that, he supposes, sums it up.
