NOTES: This chapter will contain stressful moments. Nothing too bad, I don't think, personality…but you never know.

Chapter 3

STEVEN: Spinel, I promise you. I'll be back. (The door opens) I won't be long. Promise!

With that, Steven leaves. He couldn't believe how far he was getting with Spinel, even he was thinking this was too quick but nonetheless, it felt like progress. But in the back of his mind, no matter how much he found this woman cute and beautiful, he still had to remember, that she was a patient…and not pleasure. But…that seemed easier than done…it was far too early and not professional. Peridot was not outside the door, which frustrated him a little and figured she walked back to her office…he sighed as he made his way there.

Bismuth turned the key, as the room echoes of the door locking, leaving to herself but she smiled wildly.

SPINEL: (To herself) He's…he's promised…

HE'S LYING!

SPINEL: N-No…

HE'S LYING! THEY ALWAYS LIE! THEY ALWAYS LIE IN THE END! HE'S JUST LIKE HER! HE'LL LEAVE YOU! HE'LL LEAVE US! JUST LIKE THE HER!

SPINEL: (Falls to her knees) Noo! No! No! No! No! Noo!

LIES! ALL LIES! THEY ALWAYS LIE! THEY NEVER COME BACK! NEVER! THEY NEVER COME BACK!

By now, Steven was outside Peridot's office and he gently knocked on the door, with the sound of "Come in", coming from the other side. Steven pushed the door to see Peridot, sitting down at her desk, with her arms folded.

STEVEN: So, you wanted to see me, Peridot?

PERIDOT: Sit down, Mr Universe.

Peridot's voice sounded a little stern. Steven simply sat down and noticed Peridot was annoyed about something. There was an awkward silence but to be fair, it didn't last long.

STEVEN: Have I done something wrong, Peridot?

PERIDOT: You know you have…

STEVEN: (Shrugs and shakes his head slightly) I'm…not sure what you're one about…

PERIDOT: (Rubs her eyes) What do you think you were doing in there, Mr Universe?

STEVEN: I don't understand…

PERIDOT: You know perfectly well what you did!

STEVEN: (Sighs) Enlighten me.

PERIDOT: You were flirting with her!

STEVEN: (Frowns) Was I…?

PERIDOT: Yes, you was! You were flirting with a patient! Don't deny it!

STEVEN: Hmm. I don't think I was…

PERIDOT: Oh, please. It was clear as crystal.

STEVEN: I don't know what you thought you saw…but I was just engaging light talk with the patient.

PERIDOT: By making her dance?

STEVEN: Uh, no. I didn't make her. She chose on her own accord. When she did dance, it was beautiful. I take in all the little details that makes a person, what makes them tick and what makes them enjoy the things they do. She likes to dance and she showed me. Nothing wrong with that, is there?

PERIDOT: Your methods are strange. I thought you're trying to find out what made her stab a woman and all the other crimes she's done.

STEVEN: So you expect me to go in and ask about her darkest moments of her life. (Shakes his head) No…that's not how I work. I want to build trust. Trust is the key. If she can't trust me then she'll trust no one…and we'll never get to the bottom of the reasoning's behind her crimes. Once she trusts me and believe me it could take forever, then she'll be confident to talk about her past…and her mother. You know my methods are positive and patience.

Peridot nods slowly. She then gets up, walks around her chair and looks out the window.

PERIDOT: Though your methods have a high success rate, I still believe you let your emotions get the best of you.

STEVEN: That's because emotions is what makes us all unique. It's who we are. Without them, how can we create our own personalities…

PERIDOT: You know I was watching you, right…?

STEVEN: (Shrugs) So?

PERIDOT: I can tell you let her…

STEVEN: (Chuckles) Like her…? Are you serious, Peridot? I've only just met her.

PERIDOT: (Turns around) I…I don't want you getting hurt.

STEVEN: (Puzzled) Hurt, why would I get hurt…?

PERIDOT: Because you are too nice…sometimes I think you let people in far too quickly and because of your good nature…(Sighs and trails off a little)…I don't know, sometimes people can see that and take advantage.

STEVEN: Peridot, I'm…I'm fine. You don't need to worry about me.

PERIDOT: But I do. I may not look like it but I worry about you a lot.

STEVEN: Like I've said, there's nothing to worry about…

PERIDOT: Just…just be careful with this one. Just remember…Spinel is dangerous, that's why she's here.

STEVEN: So, you took me out of that room…because you thought I was having…romantic feelings towards Spinel…?

PERIDOT: No…because I believe she likes you…

STEVEN: Likes me…?

PERIDOT: Yes.

STEVEN: Well…(Shifts in the chair)…I never really notice she'd-

PERIDOT: I'm only going by what I saw on the screen. I had to analyses her face during your visit. Not to mention, I was worried about you.

STEVEN: Then…the first step has started. (Stands up)

PERIDOT: Where are you going?

STEVEN: Back to Spinel.

PERIDOT: Why?

STEVEN: I'm amazed by how quickly Spinel trusts me. (A little sad) She kept asking me if I'd be back…and I promised her I would. (Smiles) I'm not going to break that promise.

PERIDOT: You're just going by my assumptions that she likes you through facial expressions. Don't take my word for it, literally. That's total madness! You're mad!

STEVEN: (At the door) Aren't we all…

With that, Steven leaves, closing the door gently behind him. Peridot just slumps in her chair. She then goes to her screen and taps on it, getting the live footage of Spinel in her room…she was walking up and down, looking quite nervous. Peridot had the live feed on mute…she hesitantly turned the mute button off.

SPINEL: HE'S NOT COMING BACK! HE'S NOT COMING BACK!

SPINEL: YES, HE IS! JUST…JUST SHUT UP AND GET OUT OF MY HEAD!

SPINEL: NOOO! HE'S JUST LIKE HER! THE BITCH WHO ANBANDOND US!

Spinel then chucked her make-up box across the room and she went into the corner of the room.

With all the patients Peridot's had in the past, you'd think she'd be used to this kind of behaviour but for the first time in a while, Peridot felt uncomfortable watching Spinel…and it really did seem that Steven was the only person to put Spinel in check. Peridot sighed…and then turned off the monitor.

Spinel was crying…cowarding in the corner. Her make-up box was unpacked and sprawled across the floor.

I told you. I told you didn't I…? He isn't coming back…

SPINEL: He hasn't been gone for long!

Look at this mess…

SPINEL: You…y-you did this…

Because you think the world is just rosy, don't you? WELL IT'S NOT!

SPINEL: Go away…

No! I am the better half of you. I am the reasoning!

SPINEL: Please, just…go away…please…

NO!

SPINEL: PLEASE!

NO!

Spinel then punches the floor…she hurts her hand but she doesn't care. She then pushed more tears out as she closed her eyes and whimpered. She gasped through her crying and looked at all her make-up things spread across the room. She then crawled to an eye-liner…she sobbed and then snapped the plastic liner…leaving a very sharp plastic shank, easy enough to cut through flesh.

SPINEL: I'd rather be dead…k-knowing you're my only choice of emotion…

This is not my fault! IT'S HERS! IT'S HIS! IT'S ALL OF THEM!

Spinel then clenched her left wrist and holding the broken sharp plastic with her right hand, teasing over her wrist and veins…feeling the pulse beat faster.

Wha…what are you doing…?

SPINEL: I…I don't want to be lonely any more. (Sobs) I…I don't want this…feeling of reject anymore…(Sobs again)…I don't want this…pain any more…

Ha…ahha…haha…hahahahahahahahaha! AAAHH HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! GIVING UP ON LIFE? HAHAHA! AAAHHHHHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! This is just…pathetic. Our mother wins…

Spinel started to shake…the sharp plastic blade ready to pierce the skin, as she pushed the-

Knock, knock.

Spinel was startled by the knocking that came from the door.

SPINEL: (Shaking) W-Who's…?

STEVEN: (From the other side of the door) It's me, Steven. I'm back.

SPINEL: (To herself) He's…back! He…h-he kept his promise…

So it seems. Hmph…

SPINEL: (Smiles and still talking to herself) He…he came back! I told you he would.

Yeah, yeah…but for how long…

Spinel ignored her split- personality voices in her head and gasped when she looked down at her hands...holding the plastic shank, she tossed it to one side and was lucky not to break the skin on her wrist. The door was unlocked, as Bismuth opened it and then Steven followed...he was holding to cups of drinks. Steven nodded to Bismuth to close the door…and then looked at Spinel with a half-smile.

STEVEN: I got us some drinks. It's tea…

SPINEL: Tea…?

STEVEN: I mean, it's from the vending machine down the hall, so it might suck.

Steven offers Spinel her drink as he kneels down in front of her but she just looks at him oddly and slight joyful disbelief.

SPINEL: No one ever brings me drinks…unless it's with dinner…

STEVEN: Oh. (Shrugs) Well, I'm glad I broke that tradition. (Chuckles)

Steven was still holding the drink he offered to Spinel, in which she has yet to take up his offer. Though the gesture was small…it was still more than anyone had ever done for her for a long time.

STEVEN: Um. (Mocks cough) I…I wasn't sure if you liked tea or not. I just…took a chance.

SPINEL:

STEVEN: Uh…I'm sorry, I just-

SPINEL: I like tea…

STEVEN: Oh. (Wry smile) Cool. Uh…I'll just…(Puts the tea on the floor near her)…put the tea down here then and…

Just then, Spinel leaped into his arms, catching him off guard and making him drop his own tea, she wrapped his arms around him. Steven wasn't sure what was happening…and then Spinel started to cry into his jacket. Steven felt his heart go…he had to remember that she was still damaged and couldn't help but think of all the emotions and feelings she was going through. This was a person that needed help…he couldn't forget about that.

And yet…through her baggage…she was this beautiful woman that was holding him. Steven slowly returned the hug back, as she cried and sobbed. Holding her and embracing her body pressed against his. Steven started to gently rub her back…and he looked over her shoulder to only just notice the mess on the floor…he couldn't understand why he didn't notice it at first but could tell that this woman needed help…and fast.

STEVEN: I'll fix you, Spinel. I'll fix you. I promise.

End of Chapter.

NOTES: First of all, thank you so much to those who have favoured and added alerts for this story...and secondly I am so sorry it's taken this long to get a third chapter…but now I've finished my other story, I will be concentrating on this for now on and update once a week, hopefully.
