Chapter 10

After calming down from her horrible nightmare, Steven made Spinel some hot chocolate, which she kindly accepted and sat at a table. Spinel was wearing one of Steven's shirts that was far too big for her but long enough to cover her, while Steven was in his boxers. During this Spinel explained the deterioration of her mother throughout the years and how she lied about coming back…and even though she didn't see her mother commit suicide, her mind made up the idea of how it turned out…though these were facts that her mother did indeed jumped in front of a train and was killed instantly.

Spinel was coming to the end of the story. Steven was engaged but sad by Spinel's story.

SPINEL: …I waited for her for three days, just…standing there, looking at the door. My legs started to hurt, so I sat down but I never moved from that spot…

STEVEN: My God, Spinel…why? Why didn't you just…get on with the day?

SPINEL: Because…my mother said so and if I had moved…I…I know she would've hit me.

STEVEN: Surely you must've realised something was wrong?

SPINEL: (Looks at Steven) Yes. But…(Looks down) I didn't move. I didn't want to upset her again. (Sighs angrily) She made a promise…

Steven notices that Spinel's hands were shaking and squeezing the cup of chocolate, this was a sign of her getting angry and though getting all this emotional weight off her chest was a good idea, he needed her to sat calm, just for now. Steven put his hand on her shoulder and Spinel instantly stopped shaking, like it was a magic healing power the coursed through her body and her mood changed back to normal.

STEVEN: I'm…sorry, you had to go through this.

SPINEL: She should be the one to say "Sorry"…

STEVEN: (Sighs and nods) The only thing I want to know is why it took so long for anyone to find you. Three days…seventy-two hours? How did you survive without starvation or even dehydration?

SPINEL: (Embarrassed) The room was a mess of takeaways and…a-and left overs on the floor…so whenever I felt hungry…I'd…(Trails off)

STEVEN: My God.

SPINEL: Like I said, I didn't want to move from my spot. She promised. SHE PROMISED!

Spinel then shot up and chucked the cup of hot chocolate towards the wall in frustration and anger. The cup exploded into little pieces from the impact. Spinel gritted her teeth but realised what she had down. She looked at her hands before looking back at the brown chocolate drip down the walls.

SPINEL: Oh, S-Steven, I'm-

STEVEN: It's fine, Spinel…

SPINEL: But…but I broke your cup…

STEVEN: I have plenty of cups, Spinel, so please don't worry.

SPINEL: But, your wall…

STEVEN: It's just a wall. It can be cleaned.

SPINEL: (Sits down) I'm…sorry, I just…needed to…

STEVEN: …get it off your chest.

SPINEL: (Awkward) Yes…

STEVEN: Sudden bursts of anger is perfectly natural and it just so happens you had a cup in your hand. It's also perfectly natural for us humans to rid of something in our hands through anger, so as not to take the anger out on other people. We use inanimate objects as a sign of our frustration…and once we see that object break through the frustration, it helps us calm down. A release, as it were. What you did there, was normal.

SPINEL: But…my anger has hurt people…

STEVEN: You didn't hurt me though, did you?

Spinel looks at Steven with a look of worry on her face but when she sees him smiling, it warms up her heart and a nice feeling surrounds her…the feeling of trust. Not to mention that this was a man she made love with earlier…everything about Steven was just perfect.

SPINEL: I'll admit, it…did feel good to let out that release of anger…

STEVEN: It's something we should never bottle up.

SPINEL: I know that now…

STEVEN: Going back to you, staying in the spot for three days, there's still something I don't understand. Why did it take three days for anyone to notice you were on your own?

SPINEL: Because my mom…was unrecognizable. I…I remember this squared afro police woman telling me that they had to use the blood DNA to find my mom's identity. No teeth or…finger prints.

A memory quickly, for a second, pops up.

POLICEWOMAN: …it was like she just burst and simply vanished…

SPINEL: It took days to identify her and know where she lived. (Wipes her eyes) Then they found me.

Spinel sits back into the sofa and wraps her arms around herself.

STEVEN: (Leans forward) Spinel…when did the voices start? (Spinel looks at Steven horrified) Because…it wasn't you, technically, that attack those people, was it? (Spinel started to get uncomfortable) When did the voices start?

SPINEL: No, I don't want to tell you!

STEVEN: Why?

SPINEL: Because you'll think I'm crazy…

STEVEN: (Chuckles a little) You do realise we had sex less than an hour ago, don't you?

SPINEL: (Blushes) Y-Yeah…

STEVEN: Don't you think I'm the crazy one who made relations with a beautiful woman who was in an institution yesterday? Some would see it as unprofessional. (Smiles) But I see it…as perfect.

SPINEL: (Blushing brightly) It…it was amazing…

STEVEN: Crazy is as crazy do. Makes us perfect for each other. (Softy) So, no, Spinel, I don't think you're crazy…just a little broken and I've promised to help you. I've promised to fix you. I've promised to make you feel better.

Spinel was still blushing but smiles a wide grin and remembering how gentle Steven was, when their bodies touched, their hands caressed…and the gasps of throbbing ecstasy inside her, connecting them as one.

SPINEL: (Hugs Steven, who hugs back) I can't believe I found you. (Nods) Okay…I'll tell you when the voices started…but I can't remember the attacks, only the start of them…

STEVEN: That's okay, tell me what you can remember.

Spinel took her time telling the story, with the amazing encouragement from Steven, she felt like she never had to hide anything from him…but at the end of the day, he was still a psychiatrist and she was still his patient.

SPINEL: I think…(Tries to remember)…I think it was on the second day, I was hearing something…that was me and yet, unnatural…

Spinel tells her story, as her memory comes into play once again:

And she reminds us how it came about…

Spinel had just finished filling up bin bag, as her mother came down stairs. Spinel looked up and was shock was she was seeing….it was her mother smiling and looking so radiant. Pink was wearing her favourite uniform: Pink Diamond wore a rose-burgundy top which was cropped in the middle to reveal her midriff and belly button piercing gem with large puffy pink-and-white shoulder pads and rose gloves. She also wore a small pink and white skirt, short puffy rose-pink pants, white stockings and a pair of pink slippers with white pom-poms floating over each of them. It may seem excessive but it did make her look beautiful and for a first time in a long time, look elegant.

SPINEL: Wow, mom…

Pink diamond had clearly had a shower as her hair was almost poofed out.

PINK: I figured I'd wear my best…for today…

SPINEL: (Smiles) You look so…different. So…beautiful…

PINK: Thank you, sweetie.

SPINEL: What's the occasion?

Pink's wide smile almost dropped but tried not to give it away and disguised it with a chuckle.

PINK: Oh, I just simply wanted to…look good, going out?

SPINEL: Going out?

PINK: Yes, I'm…sick. Uh, just sick of this place and wanted some fresh air.

SPINEL: Oh. (Puts the bin bag down) I'll come with you.

PINK: NO! (Spinel was taken back) Uh…(Nervous chuckle) No…I…I just want to be on my own…

SPINEL: Mom, it's no trouble.

PINK: Sweetie, I want you to stay here.

SPINEL: Mom, really, I-

Pink interrupts her by gently grabbing her shoulders to get her attention.

PINK: Spinel, sweetheart, listen to me. I want you to stay here, okay? I want you to stay in this spot. (Lies but Spinel doesn't see it) I want you to stay here for when I come back…

SPINEL: You're not leaving…are you…?

PINK: (Lies again) No…that's not what I'm doing.

SPINEL: And you'll come back…?

PINK: (Weak smile) I promise.

At that point Pink hugs Spinel for as long as she needed to and then breaks it up. It looked like Pink was about to cry…but even if she was, she hid it well through this strange smile. Pink simply turns and walks over to the door.

SPINEL: Mom…? (Pink turns around)…I love you…

Pink just smiles and closes the door behind her, leaving Spinel on her own, just staring at the door…as if to expect her mother come back straight away. Spinel sighs…something was wrong but couldn't put her finger on it…but she did what her mother asked her…and waited for her to return…

…but she didn't and Spinel was unsure why.

It had been twenty four hours and Spinel could feel her stomach rumble, the cramping pains wanting her to move from that spot…but she promised her mother not to move. Spinel looked around and saw a used pizza box near. She picked it and opened the box, there was a slice left…and she was unsure how old it could've been but to her right now, this was a main course meal. Spinel was a little hesitant at first but her stomach rumbled again, forcing her to take a bite. She tried to pucker up her mouth, producing saliva to make the bite more edible…and as she took her first bite, she could taste the start of its stale…it felt soft and yet rubbery but cold and yet…strangely tasty, as she could taste the cheese and cut up bit's of cold meat. It was chewy at first but she managed to swallow…and the first bite was enough for her to finish the old slice, which didn't last long but it'll ease her hunger for now.

Soon…sleep was becoming a problem, as her eyes ached and started to get heavy…but she just stared at the door, waiting for it to open…her head titled as her body was signalling for her to get some sleep but she was fighting it the best she can. Every time her head titled, it woke her up…but she was losing the fight but somehow managed to stay awake.

Spinel was on her second day…

Oddly enough, time went quick for her…just staring at the door made her completely unaware that time was passing. However, the hunger pains, thirst and tiredness all gathered up against her.

SPINEL: (To herself) I'm not hungry. I'm not thirsty. I'm…(promptly yawns)…not tired…

The door never moved or open…it just stayed shut.

SPINEL: (Still to herself) Mommy…? Where are you?

PINK: Spinel, sweetheart, listen to me. I want you to stay here, okay? I want you to stay in this spot. (Lies but Spinel doesn't see it) I want you to stay here for when I come back…

SPINEL: (Talking to no one) Are you coming back…?

PINK: I promise…

VOICE: She isn't coming back…

SPINEL: Huh, what…?

VOICE: I said, she isn't coming back!

SPINEL: W-Who…said that?

VOICE: Me. (Laughs) You!

Spinel then spots a mirror.

An ornate design of silver-blue metallic material comprises the backing and handle of the mirror; there was a lapis Lazuli gemstone attached to the back that had a crack in it, probably caused by Pink, chucking it about and eventually damaging it. The mirror itself is a round piece of reflective blue glass with a faint contour of an octagonal gemstone etched on its surface…but something made Spinel pick it up and what she saw in the reflection made her gasp. It was her…but her reflection wasn't the same, since this Spinel smiled evilly and had mascara dripping down her face…her hair was messy and the complete opposite to who she was.

SPINEL*: (Chuckles) Huh, it makes a mirror to see who you really are…

SPINEL: Who are you?

SPINEL*: I just said, I'm you. You are me. We are the same!

SPINEL: No…n-no, this is…this is not happening.

SPINEL*: Oh, it's happening. Right now, you're talking to me, the other side of you that has yet to come out…and guess what, I'm nearly at that stage of becoming a reality!

SPINEL: You're…you're not a part of me.

SPINEL*: Ah, denial. A stage that people believe they never have. Well, guess what? I am a part of you!

SPINEL: Why are you…here…?

SPINEL*: I just told you, I'm the other part of you that has yet to escape but I'm so, so close! I'm your anger, I'm your frustrations, and I'm your…denial. I'm the part of you that's starting to get pissed off with this whole situation.

SPINEL: What situation, there's no situation, I'm just…I'm just…(Looks back at the closed front door, sadly)…I'm just waiting for mom…

SPINEL*: (Laughs) A-ha! Ha. Hahaha. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

SPINEL: (Looks back at her twisted reflexion) Why are you laughing? What's so funny?

SPINEL*: My God, you just don't get it, do you? And this is why I'm here because you're so full of it! Full of denial and you can't even see it! Pathetic!

SPINEL: What?

SPINEL*: Mom…she is never coming back!

SPINEL: You don't know that…

SPINEL*: Oh, open your FUCKING EYES! Look at us! We've been sitting in this spot for ages!

SPINEL: It…hasn't been that long!

SPINEL*: It's been TWO DAYS! TWO FUCKING DAYS! DOESN'T THAT TELL YOU ANYTHING? She isn't coming back!

SPINEL: S-She will…

SPINEL*: SHE WON'T!

SPINEL: She promised…

SPINEL*: She lied!

SPINEL: NO, SHE PROMISED! SHE PROMISED SHE'D COME BACK! SHE PROMISED! SHE SAID SO, SHE PROMISED!

SPINEL*: THEN WHERE IS SHE THEN, HUH?

Spinel started to breathe heavily, this burden of her other side seemed to be getting the best of her…but what's worse, was her other side was making sense.

SPINEL: She…s-she just went…o-out…

SPINEL*: Yeah…and never to come back because you know why?

SPINEL: W-Why…?

SPINEL*: Because she hated us!

SPINEL: No…

SPINEL*: Because she didn't care for us!

SPINEL: (Closes her eyes and squeezes the mirror) God, no!

SPINEL*: Because…SHE NEVER LOVED US! SHE DIDN'T GIVE A SHIT ABOUT US AND SHE LEFT US TO ROT HERE, IN THIS SPOT! SHE HATED US! AND WHAT SHE PROMISED WAS A LIE, IT WAS ALL BULLSHIT!

SPINEL: NOOOO!

Spinel then chucked the mirror at the door, which smashed on impact. Spinel shouted the roof down through sadness, frustration and anger. She covered her face with her hands, trying anything to stop herself from crying but it didn't work. Tears were sweeping through her finger tips. She sobbed a few times, ready to speak again…

SPINEL: You're crazy…

SPINEL*: Crazy? (Removes her hands to reveal her evil side and evil smile and frowned expression) Says the one who has been talking to herself all this time. (Chuckles) It's my turn now! (Looks at the door) She's not coming back…and you know I'm right. And to prove it…we'll just sit here, like a crazy bitch we are, snacking on stale food and flat fizzy drinks that's lost all taste. And…if anyone else comes in…we hurt them, we hurt them good! (Spinel was expecting a response from her good side, that no longer existed as it was pushed back deep within her mind) Huh, I thought so.

Spinel then spots a half-eaten chicken wing and takes a bite of the cold meat, smiling…and waiting.

Spinel carried on with the story but cut to the third day.

At this point, Spinel was playing with a steak knife and used it to playfully scratch the carpet but also managed to scratch some jaggered writing into it. "ALL LIES" and "PROMISES ARE LIES". Her evil side was still in control.

SPINEL: It's been three days, I'd wager…and nothing. See, I was right, wasn't I? Our dearest mother has left us. Her words were nothing but lies. But…that's what people do, they leave you because they don't love you anymore. We were just a burden and nothing else. If our dearest mother tells lies, who says that nobody else will…? Who can we trust? No one…this world we've been brought up in is nothing but disappointment and lies. Why should we live in a world like that? Why…? I feel nothing but anger and pain. Do we really want to live like this…? Pain and anger?! (Looks at the knife)…I could…end it for us. I could end the lies that surround us. Being lonely in death is no different to being lonely while still alive…the only difference is…it'll go away. It's so simple. (Teases the knife over her neck) I could slice our neck…(Then teases the knife over her wrist) or I can slice our wrists. It'll only hurt for a little while, it'll be like…going to sleep, slowly. I think it'll be for the best…(Spinel pushes the knife through her skin, producing a seep of blood)…because…nobody will care…

Just then, the door rattled with a couple of knocks. This startled Spinel, stopping her from sliding the knife across her wrists. She looked at the door, almost horrified and unexpected anger.

VOICE: Hello?

Whoever was on the side, just carried on knocking.

VOICE: This is the police!

SPINEL: Police…? M-Maybe they have some news about mo-

SPINEL*: NO! IT'LL BE MORE FALSE LIES!

VOICE: (From the other side of the door) Wait, did you hear that? (Mutters with another person. The voices became muffled) Someone's in there! (Knocks again) Open this door, this is the police!

SPINEL*: FUCK OFF!

SPINEL: HELP!

SPINEL*: NO, SHUT UP!

The voices of the police officers talk amongst themselves, behind the door.

VOICE: There's shouting! Someone's in there!

VOICE 2: Open the door!

VOICE: Right!

Spinel growls as her evil side takes control of her own body. She grips the knife, tightly in her hand. The door starts to produce load bangs from the other side, as the police officers try to get in. The bangs were getting louder and harder, as the door was slowly becoming loose. Spinel hated this intrusion and whoever walks through that door first was going to get it. Spinel hid the knife behind her. At last, the door slammed open, almost practically torn off its hinges. Two female police officers burst in, pointing their guns.

Both in uniform, of course, but one had

Somewhat of a stocky appearance. Her eyes are dark indigo, and her thick, messy hair is pale lavender and which it seems could reach down to her ankles but was tied back, with a large bang that obscures her left eye. She also has plump lips, and a small, upturned nose. Officer Amethyst.

But it was the other officer, which caught Spinel's eye: The other officer had voluminous medium-length hair that is dyed a light shade of pink. She has defined lips with a grey ring pierced on her lower lip, and a slightly dark-peach complexion…aside from the round face, she almost looked like Pink…Spinel gasped.

The officers pointed their guns around, until they spotted Spinel. The officer with the pink hair, disarmed herself.

OFFICER: There's a kid here.

AMETHYST: I'll search the area. The father must be near…

The officer with the pink hair, smiled back at Spinel and approached her slowly…but Spinel just murmured to herself, seeing only her mother in front of her.

SPINEL: (To herself) She…came back?

OFFICER: Hey, are you okay?

SPINEL: (Still to herself) No, she…just looks like her…

OFFICER: Hey, kid, are you alright? Are you injured…?

SPINEL: Stab her…

No, no, NO!

SPINEL: Stab her!

NO!

OFFICER: Are you listening to me, do you need me to call in an ambulance?

SPINEL: STAB HER!

NNOOOOO!

SPINEL: YES!

OFFICER: Hey, what are you-?

Without warning and quick movement, Spinel pushed the officer, making her off guard and Spinel stabbed the pink haired officer in the neck. The officer screamed as the blade pierced through her flesh. She manged to push Spinel off as an reaction, but she held tightly to her neck to stop the blood from flowing out, seeping through her fingers but Spinel kicked her down, like kicking the door and the officer fell down hard on the floor and Spinel jumped on top of her, stabbing her several times all over.

SPINEL: SHE LOOKS LIKE HER! SHE LOOKS LIKE HER! SHE LOOKS LIKE THE LIES WE WERE GIVEN!

Spinel just kept on repeating the stabs until Officer Amethyst run in and quickly pointed the gun at Spinel.

AMETHYST: OFFICER DOWN! REQUEST BACKUP! AND AMBULANCE!

After the request, Amethyst shot close to Spinel, missing her by inches but this prompted Spinel to stop and jump backwards off the badly stabbed officer, who was still miraculously still alive. Spinel just grinned evilly and chuckled…she then dropped the knife and putting her hands up.

SPINEL: You wouldn't shoot an unarmed person, would you?

Amethyst hesitated by those words but the actions that Spinel took made her angry…she had every reason to shoot. Amethyst was quick to swap her gun for a taser.

AMETHYST: Better for you to be in prison!

At this point, Spinel chucked a pizza box at Amethyst, which distracted her and Spinel quickly turned to turn away but Amethyst gathered up and shot the taser, hitting Spinel in the back of the leg and electrocuted her…Spinel ceased up as the electricity coursed through her and fell down onto the floor, jolting in spasms until Amethyst knew she had enough and turned it off, whipping off the taser's clips that were still lodged into Spinel's leg…the officer pinned her down, took both her hands and started to handcuff her

AMETHYST: You are under arrest…

SPINEL: (Back to normal) Wha…what's going on?

AMETHYST: Shut the fuck up!

SPINEL: What's going on? (Now handcuffed)

AMETHYST: (Ignores her) You do not have to say anything. But, it may harm your defence if you do not mention when questioned something which you later rely on in court. Anything you do say may be given in evidence. (Grits her teeth) But what I've seen, you don't deserve a fucking jury…

SPINEL: No, NO! This can't be happening.

Eventually, more police cars turn up and an ambulance followed, to Amethyst's relief as she went to check on her partner, who was breathing heavily but losing a lot of blood. The officers entered the house, along with the paramedics and straight away assisted the pink, blood covered officer. While Spinel was taken away…scared and crying.

End of Memory.

SPINEL: (Teary) I…I hurt an innocent woman…who…just happened to look my mom…

Steven was shell-shocked at the story but it was important for Spinel to tell the story and never interrupted her till the end as he took in Spinel's story.

STEVEN: So…you was abandon then…? (Spinel nods slowly) I'm sorry…

SPINEL: So am I…

STEVEN: Well…the officer survived, okay? So, you don't need to worry about that…

SPINEL: (A subtle chuckle) I'm not…

Just then, Steven realized something.

STEVEN: Wait a minute…the report didn't say it was a police officer that got attacked the first time…only the second person you attacked was an officer. (Spinel didn't respond…except frowning). And…and you said you can't remember anything while being this…other Spinel…? Yet, you told me this story. (Looks at Spinel) How did you…?

Just then, Spinel turned her face towards Steven and exposed her red angry eyes and toothy grin and started laughing evilly.

SPINEL: And you…just helped me escaped, DICKHEAD!

And as quick as a flash, she took Steven's cup of hot chocolate off him and splashed it over Steven's face, the scream was barely a second as she smashed the cup over his head, formally knocking him out.
