"Where the hell do they live?" Piper asked herself as she looked around the street that she stood on. It was amazing that there was all of this technology that could show the location of anyone and everyone. Except for the person that Piper was looking for.

Which she guessed made sense. The person she was looking for wasn't really a person. Well, they were. Had been. Just like her. Maybe not just like Piper, but she wouldn't really know until she met them. So, all she had to do was find them.

But War didn't have a billing address. Oh no, that would be too easy. War would never set up a mailbox, so that people could send in their complaints.

Thanks for killing my kid in the war.

I appreciate you causing my entire family to die from a missile attack.

As Piper thought about it, she could understand why War didn't set up a mailbox. They could at least have some social media profile, just so Piper could know what they looked like. The profile picture could be War standing in a field of dead bodies or posing with a few corpses.

Piper really wasn't picky. She just needed to know where to go. Really, this wasn't even her job either. Nor was this her fault. The rumor going around was that War had been dating someone, and the two broke up. Now, War was taking it out on a few countries by having them fight.

And the others wanted Piper to put a stop to it.

It wasn't like Piper had been doing this for that long either. Just a few hundred years. She was probably one of the newer ones. They didn't really have a name, despite the petitions of her friend and the literal embodiment of Chaos, Leo, insisting that they should.

Piper wouldn't say that she woke up one day and found out that she was the living embodiment of love, but that's exactly how it happened. The personification of wisdom, a woman named Annabeth, was standing over her bed and explained that Piper was descended from these ancient beings that were like gods.

The bloodline became diluted over time as the godlike figures had more and more descendants. Anyone in the bloodline could be given the powers of the original ancestors, but only one of the bloodline could become a Personification at a time.

Piper had never met the person who was the personification of love before her. She just woke up with Annabeth standing right over her face. She screamed so loud that her landlord came and gave her grief about it.

With her new position, Piper also had plenty of powers and perks. The first being that she didn't age. In fact, she could change what age she looked like. Her friends didn't appreciate her appearing as a little kid. Well, Leo did, and he followed her example. Someone threatened to put them in time out, and Piper had thought they were joking. Until they froze time and left her there. It was the longest week of her life.

"Why can't they just live in the middle of nowhere?" Piper grumbled to herself. She looked around the street. Everything looked so normal. Not anywhere that the personification of war would live. As Piper turned the corner, she found a park in front of her. Normally, she would have just kept walking, but there was something that caught her attention.

That something was the metallic dog with ruby eyes and teeth so sharp that it could probably rip someone's throat out. The dog was chewing on a metal toy, and its teeth were leaving marks. Piper stared at the dog and then looked around the rest of the park.

There were no children in the park. No adults were walking by. No teenagers were sneaking around. There was a fountain near the entrance of the park, and a long figure was sitting against the fountain. Piper tilted her head as she saw another metallic dog sitting near the person. This one was chewing on a bone. An actual bone.

Oh yeah. This had to be War.

And War was not what Piper was expecting. For one, she expected a male. It just made sense that someone who caused wars and death would be a male. It was a guy thing, really. So, Piper was a little surprised to see a female sitting against the fountain.

And maybe someone could argue that this was a different personification than War, but Piper knew they would be wrong. War was the only one with red eyes. That she knew of. She also heard that red was only when they were using their powers to create wars.

What should Piper call her? War? Don't say a name at all? Should she compliment the dogs? 'Cause they were really cute. Even if they were metal and didn't have fur. Piper walked towards War and did a final sweep.

Another thing Piper didn't expect was for War to look like a petulant teenager. There was a scowl on her face as she stared ahead. The red danced in her eyes, engulfing her pupils. Her face was regal, beautiful really. With jawbones so sharp it probably sunk a ship or two in the past.

Her hair was braided perfectly down her back without a hair out of place. She was sitting with her legs crossed almost in a yoga pose, but her hands weren't in a meditative pose. Instead, her hands rested palm first on the ground with her fingers digging into it. Quite literally. Her fingers were buried into the dirt, past the middle knuckle.

Piper let out a shaky breath. She would just approach and introduce herself as Love. It would - should - be fine. Piper walked towards War and spoke, "Um, hey. I'm Love. Also known as Piper McLean. That was my name before I changed. I just wanted to talk about what you've been doing lately."

War made no movements. She didn't even acknowledge Piper. That didn't deter Piper as she forged on, "I know that it sucks to go through a breakup. I've had my fair share, which is pretty ironic considering that I am Love; but, it happens you know? The point is that you cannot take it out on other people. Creating wars and fights isn't fair."

"Let me buy you a drink. We can talk out this whole breakup thing and end the wars that you started. That sounds good, doesn't it?" Piper asked. No response was given by War. Piper stared and waited for something. Anything.

"Hello?" Piper asked. She waved her hands in front of War's face, but the woman did not budge. Piper reached her hand out, but that metal dog next to them growled and jumped to its feet. Piper jumped back.

War blinked, and her eyes went from a crimson red to black. She focused on Piper and frowned. Piper spoke, "Um. Hi. This is more awkward now that I realized that you weren't paying attention to me. I'm Piper."

"Love," War interrupted. "Piper McLean."

"Yup," Piper said with a smile. "And you are...?"

"Reyna," War answered. She snapped her fingers, and the two dogs ran to her side. Reyna placed a hand to each of their heads, and they disappeared. "What do you want?"

"Well, Reyna. I want to talk about the wars you've been creating," Piper began. Reyna's eyebrows came together in confusion, and she studied Piper. "I know that's your whole job and everything, but it's been a little excessive. Just a little. There are plenty of healthy ways to get over a relationship instead of taking your anger out on mortals."

Anger flashed through Reyna's eyes. Piper took a step back and shivered. She did not like that cold fire in Reyna's eyes. Her scowl seemed permanently etched onto her face, "Who the hell told you about my relationship?"

"I am Love," Piper began. Reyna stood in one swift movement. It almost intimidated Piper that Reyna was taller than her even if just by an inch or two. She was wearing a sleeveless jacket, and Piper could not get her eyes off of those biceps. "It's kind of my thing! No one told me. I just know."

That was a lie. Piper didn't just know. She had been told by Wisdom that a lot of other personifications had come to her to complain, and she didn't have time to deal with War. Maybe, Annabeth was just smart enough to not do that.

"It sucks. It really does, but you need to learn to control your anger," Piper said. Reyna's face showed no expression. She didn't move a muscle, but Piper was sure that War could punch her face off before she could blink. And, Piper was not about to grow her face back again. The first time was bad enough.

"But," Piper continued. She focused on War's eyes. Those eyes were so black that she could hardly tell the difference between her iris and pupils. Reyna didn't even look like she was breathing. "There's a healthy way to get over a relationship."

Piper focused in on Reyna's eyes and then pushed back the anger at the surface. She felt a pull and followed it as the world changed her. She was now sitting on a roof staring down at the city below. Her legs hung over the edge, and she rolled a dagger through her fingers.

"I hate heights."

The voice was behind her and caused her to smirk. She turned to look at the woman. Electric blue eyes focused on her, and the smirk became a smile. A warmth started in her chest as she felt pure happiness from looking at her companion. The woman across from opened her mouth and-

"Stop that."

Piper blinked and found herself back in the park. Reyna was watching her through narrowed eyes. Piper frowned. She did not think that Reyna could tell when she was using her powers. All she wanted to do was look through War's eyes and find one of the memories that she attached to the person she loved. Which presumably would be her ex.

"I'm not-" Piper began.

"You are," Reyna cut her off. Her lip twitched. "Don't do it again."

"I'm just trying to help you. I know that breaking up with someone is hard, but you can't just take it out on other people by creating wars and chaos," Piper explained. Reyna glared again and turned away. "Wait! I can help you! Why don't you tell me about her?"

"No," Reyna stated.

"Okay. That's not what I was expecting. Why don't you tell me what happened?" Piper prodded.

"No."

"Her name?"

"..."

"You have to give me something."

Somewhere along the way, Reyna had turned back towards Piper. Her eyes had completely narrowed into a glare, and she did not look happy. Piper opened her mouth to continue, but Reyna disappeared from sight, "Oh, come on!"

Piper sighed as she stared at where Reyna had been. Okay, so that didn't go so well. It was her first try, though. She would just have to approach the situation from a different angle. First, she needed to get more information about War, and she knew exactly where to go.

Piper turned away and let out a deep breath. She focused on a temple that was appropriately six thousand two hundred and four miles away. Piper blinked and found herself outside of the temple. She also found herself face to face with one of the gigantic pillars that held up the roof. It was actually easy to learn how to teleport. Not so easy to perfect on where to land.

It happened more times than she wanted to admit, but she had teleported to her destination and then promptly fell off some sort of ledge. One of those videos was still floating around somewhere. Piper stepped away from the pillar and looked at the marble steps below her.

Her gaze moved to the walls of the temple. There was only one entrance, and it had no door. It was just a wide open space. Piper walked towards the temple and looked around the inside. All around her were shelves bolted onto the wall, and those shelves were filled with books from all over the world. Not to mention the stacks of books littering the ground.

If there was a reason that Annabeth Chase would never pass her position as a personification on to another, it would be because she had yet to read all the damn books in the world. Piper let out a whistle and heard someone clear their throat.

"What do you need, Piper?" Annabeth asked. Piper turned to look at the personification of wisdom.

"How did you know I needed something?" Piper teased.

"Because you always do," Annabeth answered. Their teasing was mostly in jest, but there were times when Piper wanted to strangle Annabeth. And some days when she thought Annabeth should really have been the personification of arrogance.

"Very funny. I'm trying to solve the problem you were telling me about," Piper explained. She felt the air next to her shift, and another personification leaned on her. Piper glanced at Pride, who was also known as Thalia Grace. They had only met a few times and... that woman's eyes.

Piper stared at Thalia's electric blue eyes. The same electric blue eyes from the memory that belonged to Reyna. Oh.

Ohhhhhhh.

"We can talk about that problem later," Annabeth suggested, but the look in her eyes told Piper it was not a suggestion. Not that Piper was one to back down.

"What problem are we talking about?" Thalia questioned as she looked between them. She was wearing a leather jacket and blue jeans. Her black hair was all messy like someone had attacked it with a blow dryer.

"War," Piper answered. A frown came to Thalia's face, and she nodded slightly. Piper ignored the look that Annabeth was giving her. "I don't suppose you know anything about her starting all those conflicts."

"Yeah, I do," Thalia admitted with a sigh. She stuck her hands into her pockets. "Reyna, that's War, was dating me. We had a small disagreement and broke up."

"It wasn't a small disagreement," Annabeth said coldly. Piper looked in between the two. There were no rules that two personifications couldn't date, but it was nearly impossible for the two to stay together for as long as they were alive. There was also that one bit of awkwardness if one part of the couple passed on and the other saw a new person take their place.

"What happened?" Piper questioned. Thalia sat on a pile of books and ignored the dirty look that Annabeth gave her. When she propped her legs up on another stack, Annabeth looked ready to strangle her.

"That's a first edition Shakespeare!" Annabeth almost shouted.

"A first what now?" Thalia questioned.

"Shakespeare himself wrote that," Annabeth explained like Thalia was a child. Thalia stood, removed the book from the top of the stack, and then sat back down. Annabeth's nostrils flared. "The entire stack is!"

"I'm not moving the entire stack," Thalia stated. Piper leaned against a shelf, and Annabeth turned her gaze on her.

"I'm here to help, but I need to understand why you two broke up," Piper said as she looked at Thalia. "What did Reyna do?"

"For our anniversary, she made me a fireworks show. Of sorts. As War, she has this ability to possess people in conflict. Her eyes turn red, and she can control what these people do. Have you ever heard of being battle drunk? It's where someone is so consumed by battle, by War, that they can't be stopped," Thalia explained.

"Reyna possessed a few high ranking generals and caused them to set off missiles all over the world. When you follow their trajectory all together, it spells out my name in Ancient Greek. And the landing point of each missile forms a heart," Thalia said. Piper stared at her.

That was...

...Romantic?

...Horrifying?

...Horrifically romantic?

"Oh," Piper said. Because what was anyone supposed to say to that? Piper stared at Thalia and then looked at Annabeth. There was a sour look on Wisdom's face. In contrast, there was almost a longing look on Pride's face. "How long were you two dating before this?"

"This time we dated-"

"This time?" Piper interrupted. Thalia nodded. "You two have broken up before?"

"It's like every other century with those two," Annabeth muttered. Thalia threw a book at her. "Stop that! These are priceless artifacts!"

"These are priceless artifacts," Thalia mocked. "They are books."

Annabeth muttered something in another language. Thalia shot back in that language, and the two started to go back and forth. Piper tuned them out. Couples fought all of the time, especially when they lived forever. Piper would have to figure out when the two broke up over the years, well centuries, and then borrow a history book just to cross reference dates. For curiosity's sake.

"So, do you love her or not?" Piper asked. When the two kept arguing in that language, she let out a sigh. "Hey! Thalia! Do you love Reyna or not?"

"Of course I do," Thalia replied as she turned. Annabeth rolled her eyes. "I just can't forgive her for that. Who the hell launches a missile to show their love?"

"War," Piper offered. The other two personifications looked at her. "Come on, she's War. I don't think she grew up watching sappy romantic comedies where the guy shows his love by buying flowers or showing up at midnight to proclaim his feelings. Yeah, launching missiles is kind of insane and psychotic, but it's the intent that matters."

"Reyna thought it would be cute and romantic. Just think if it had been fireworks that she did it with. It would have been really romantic," Piper said. Thalia studied her and then finally nodded. "So, all you have to do is apologize-"

"I have nothing to apologize for," Thalia interrupted. "She's the one who launched the missiles!"

"Did it hit anyone?" Piper asked. "Or buildings?"

"I don't know," Thalia breathed, sounding exasperated. "Do I sound like The Count?"

"The Sesame Street character?" Piper questioned. Thalia groaned as Annabeth rubbed her forehead.

"No. The Count: the personification of counting!" Thalia groaned. "How do you not know that?"

"I thought Leo was pranking me," Piper said. Thalia rolled her eyes. "You can't tell me that's not a joke!"

"We're getting off-topic," Annabeth cut in. "Piper, I appreciate you trying to help, but let's just forget this entire thing. Thalia just needs a hundred or two years to forgive Reyna."

"A hundred years. Did you two break up during the Hundred Years War?" Piper questioned. Thalia winced and looked away as she rubbed the back of her neck. Annabeth nodded. "The World Wars?!"

"Stop worrying about my love life," Thalia snapped back at her.

"Just the first one," Annabeth supplied. "That one didn't take too long for them to get back together. I don't think they should get back together this time."

"Wait," Thalia paused. She turned towards Annabeth. "Why?"

"You two always fight," Annabeth answered. "Even if it doesn't result in a breakup, the two of you are always fighting about something. Whether it's about where you should get dinner at or where you want to visit. When's the last time you two went one week without arguing?"

"War and Pride were not meant to go together," Annabeth explained in a gentle voice. Thalia's shoulders drooped for a moment. Then, she squared her shoulders and shook her head. "Thalia."

"Whatever," Thalia muttered. She turned and stormed away. Annabeth sighed and hung her head.

"The two can go together," Piper retorted softly. She had spent the first few hundred years of her new life learning how everything worked and getting a real grasp on the world and her powers. She did not really get to know the other personifications until recently. There were so many out there, but she had seen polar opposites match together like pieces of a puzzle. Who was to say Reyna and Thalia couldn't as well?

"It's not worth it," Annabeth stated. "I love Thalia like a sister, and Reyna and I are good friends. I have seen how those two interact, and they only seem to get along for a few moments before it all falls apart. We can't have Reyna starting wars every time the two break up and she gets mad about it. Not with mortals having the technology they do now."

Piper thought back to the memory of Reyna's that she had looked at. She remembered the joy that Reyna felt in her chest. How just looking at Thalia made Reyna smile. And, Piper realized something.

Reyna wasn't angry. She was heartbroken. The world probably felt displaced, different, without Thalia. And what way to bring it back to normal than surrounding herself with what she was familiar with?

Piper knew that Thalia wouldn't apologize anytime soon. She was Pride after all. Piper let out a sigh and looked at Annabeth, "Thank you for the time, Annabeth. I'll see you later?"

"Of course. Come here anytime you need," Annabeth offered, and Piper knew it wasn't just Annabeth being nice. She actually meant it. Hopefully.

"I will," Piper promised. Annabeth gave her a genuine smile. Piper smiled back. Then, she turned and walked out of the temple. Her gaze moved up to the sky. Her eyes closed.

Piper's thoughts went back to the memory once again. She focused on the rooftop and the genuine joy and love that Reyna felt when she saw Thalia. Her focus stayed on the building, and she felt her gut twist as she pushed her power to its limit.

Piper felt the temperature around her change. It was no longer cool with a bit of sun warming her. Instead, wind howled around her, threatening to bowl her over. Rain instantly soaked her, and thunder caused her eyes to snap open. Lightning flashed in front of her.

The rain didn't bother Piper as she walked across the rooftop. Reyna was sitting at the edge of the roof and had her legs hanging over. Piper spoke, "Reyna."

War didn't move an inch. Her head hung as she stared at the ground, and if they could die from a fall at this height, or any height, Piper would be concerned she would jump. Piper inched her way towards Reyna and carefully sat by her. Rain poured on Reyna's head, matting her hair.

"I have a question," Piper said. She knew that this wasn't going to be an easy solution. Thalia wouldn't apologize, and she probably wouldn't accept Reyna's apology. Reyna didn't look at her. The rain that streaked down her face blended in with her tears. But not well enough.

"Can we get drunk?" Piper asked. Reyna slowly looked at her. Piper had learned some time ago that just because they were personifications of a concept didn't mean they were completely different than before. They still felt the emotions that a human did.

Reyna didn't answer for a few moments. Then, she managed a small shrug. Piper gently started to reach out but stopped herself. She lowered her hand and stared ahead. Piper spoke again, "Do you want to find out?"

Reyna slowly looked at her. It seemed like her jaw was shaking as she tried to maintain her emotions. Piper met her gaze and tried to show that she understood. This was something that was going to take time. Reyna didn't need someone to yell at her and tell her to end the wars. She would do that in time, hopefully soon if Piper had her way.

"Okay," Reyna said as she slowly stood. Piper stood as well and almost smiled as she thought of a joke.

Love and War walk into a bar.

Piper would hold onto that joke for later. Today, she would let Reyna get drunk or help her deplete the bar of alcohol. Whichever came first. From there, they might actually have a conversation. Piper wasn't going to worry about trying to get the two back together just yet.

Because right now, Reyna needed a friend.

I'm not quite sure what sparked this idea, but it was a lot of fun to write. It turned out sadder than I intended, but I hope everyone enjoyed.
