Aachen, German S.S.R

September 18th, 1942

We thought with the liberation of Paris we'd be able to liberate Germany before the year's end. But our troubles are just beginning. We're fighting in a city now. Aachen. Reds got a death grip on it and for good reason. We're drilling a hole clear through their western defenses. Dad's got us going block by block, house by house. Knock 'em all down, he calls it. Merrick and Rorke haven't seen eye to eye since we got here. The grind's taking a toll on us all.

Logan and David arrived back at the Allied command post in a jeep. They both stepped out and David spoke up.

"Time for more grub and bullets." he said.

"If I tell you to do it, it is the goddamn mission!" Merrick yelled at Rorke, catching everyone's attention.

"Hey, pick up the pace!" Rorke yelled to those watching. "We gotta hit CP by nightfall."

Elsa walked over to her Brother-in-law with a sealed envelope in her hands. 'Hey, found this lying around. It's from Ellie."

"I thought I told you not to go through my things." Logan said, annoyed.

"What kind of man doesn't open a letter from his lover?" Elsa replied.

Keegan walked over and looked at the letter. "Uh, the kind who thinks it's a Dear John. See the address? She wrote "Logan", not "Walker". Only one reason to be so formal. Hate to say it. I think she's cutting you loose."

Logan shook his head and walked away.

"Or hey, maybe it's like Schrodinger's letter. You don't open it, she's still your girl." Keegan added.

SMACK!

"OW!" Keegan exclaimed as Elsa smacked him on the back of his helmet. "What?!"

"Maybe it's like Schrodinger's letter... What the hell's wrong with you?!" Elsa snapped.

"QUIT SCREWING AROUND!" Merrick roared at the four. "We hit the state theatre at 0730 tomorrow."

Merrick then walked away, leaving the four soldiers stunned.

David gave a quiet whistle. "Everybody's got their limits. Everybody."

David, Elsa, and Keegan walked away as well, leaving Logan to look at the envelope in his hands.

True or not, Ellie, I have to believe you still love me if I'm gonna stay strong.

Logan then went to join his squadmates.
