"We're here," Riley announced as she and Emily walked through the front door. "We're in the kitchen," Jane called out. Riley made her way towards the kitchen and passed Jane the discarded fire alarm she and Emily had found in the side yard on the way over.
"I'm no expert, but I'm pretty sure that functions better when it is inside of your house."
Jane and Maura both burst into laughter before looking over at Blaire who shrugged her shoulders.
"My bad. I was trying to keep it from spoiling the surprise but it obviously didn't work."
"Wait, you set off the fire alarm again? What was in this time? Ramen Noodles?"
Blaire picked up a nearby dish towel and hurled it towards Riley. "Shut up Riley. It's not like you have room to talk. If it wasn't for Emily you would starve to death."
"Emmy, Emmy", came a trio of voices as the littles came scurrying into the kitchen at the sound of Riley's voice, knowing Emily couldn't be far behind. Emily and the three little ones definitely shared a special bond and she never got time off without the littles asking where she was.
Abby and Maddy each wrapped themselves around Emily's legs and Amelia's wrapped herself around Blaire's leg.
"Mama, I'm hungry," the little blonde said as she looked up at Blaire.
Blaire looked from Maura to Jane. "What do I do?"
Jane raised an eyebrow at her daughter and grinned. "I know you're still learning this mama stuff but usually when your kid tells you they are hungry you fix them something to eat."
Riley couldn't pass up that wide open opportunity. "Wait, wait. Get the fire alarm back up first."
Ignoring Riley's poke at her, Blaire responded."What I meant was Emily is taking them to dinner in less than an hour."
Maura nodded. "Yes but they didn't have lunch today because your sister gave them too much junk food and what Amelia did have she threw up. I'm sure now that she's feeling better she is starving. Why don't you give them some veggies and fruit dip. Just enough to hold them off until dinner."
Blaire nodded as she headed towards the refrigerator. "Yes ma'am. I can do that."
"Oh thank God. That should be safe. You can't burn that," Riley continues to tease.
"I'm going to stick a sock in your mouth Riley."
"Jane, I'm not sure about this McDonald's thing. Not after all that sugar Jess gave them this morning. Can't it wait until another day? They need something healthy for dinner."
"Oh Maur. Come on. I can promise you one day of unhealthy eating is not going to kill them. It's not like it's a habit. We already told them and they are so excited. It wouldn't be right to take that back now."
Maura sighed. "Fine but you and Jess get bedtime duty. Also, no sugar. None. They have had enough," Maura says as she looks over at Emily who nods in acknowledgement.
"You sure are quiet tonight. Is everything OK?" Jane comments.
"Well, actually…" Emily went quiet for a moment before she shook her head. "You know what. I don't want to bother you right now. Go enjoy the evening with your girls."
Jane looked between Emily and Riley and could tell something was up but now wasn't the time to dig further. Whatever it was would be there when they got home.
"Come on Maur. Let's go get ready. You to Blaire. Be ready at 8. Not 8:15, 8."
"Why are you telling me that? Mom's the one that can't get ready to go out in less than an hour. She's got like forty five minutes? I bet you twenty bucks mom isn't out the door until at least 8:30," Blaire says as she settles the littles down at the table with a snack.
"I'll double that wager that Blaire is not out the door until 9:00," Maura says with a smirk.
"Well, i'm telling you both this train leaves at 8 PM with or without you," Jane says with a chuckle. As she, Blaire, and Maura headed towards the stairs she glanced back behind her.
"Are you sure everything is OK Emily?" She didn't want to come across as insensitive. If Emily really needed them they would make time.
Emily nodded. "Yeah, it's fine. We'll chat when you get home."
All of a sudden Jane had a horrific thought.
"Wait, you're not resigning as our nanny are you?"
The look on Jane's face got a chuckle from Emily. "No, of course not. I have a great job with great bosses and a set of really great kids," Emily says with a smile. "Really, everything is good. Go enjoy the night. I'm going to get the kids cleaned up and get them ready to go out ourselves as soon as they are done with their snack."
Jane nodded. "Alright, well Maura and I will both have our phones on so if you need anything call us."
"Will do, thanks Jane." Emily said with a smile.
Jane made her way upstairs and couldn't help but laugh. Maura was scurrying between the bathroom and closet. "You okay there Maur?" She asked as she shut the door.
"I'm fine love, just getting our clothes out. Do you want to shower first?" Maura asked as she held up two pairs of heels to the dress she chose.
Jane walked up behind her wife and wrapped her arms around her waist and pulled her close. "Why don't we shower together?" She asked seductively as she kissed behind the blonde's ear. She smiled when she felt Maura shudder.
"J..." Maura cleared her throat and tried again. "Jane, we have to leave in less than forty five minutes, to get ready and out the door."
"Exactly why we should shower together. It'll save on time and water," Jane said with a smirk.
Maura turned in her wife's arms. "Now you and I both know if we shower together there is no way we are leaving on time and I made a bet I don't plan on losing." The blonde remarked, giving Jane a quick kiss on the cheek. "On second thought, how about you shower in the guest bathroom. That will save on time and I can do my hair and makeup as soon as I'm done showering."
Jane rolled her eyes in Jane Rizzoli fashion knowing her suggestion wasn't going to happen. "Fine, go on. I'll just grab my things."
Maura smiled and gave the brunette's cheek a light tap. "I'll make it up to you later." She remarked before stripping off her shirt and bra and disappearing into the bathroom. She laughed out loud when she heard Jane groan.
"So not fair Maur!" Jane called from the other side of the closed door. Twenty minutes later both women were showered and began getting dressed.
Jane grabbed her dress pants and hopped from one leg to the other as she put them on. "Tell me again why we are getting dressed up?" She grumbled as she grabbed her belt and pulled it through the loops. She was now standing in the middle of their bedroom with a white spaghetti strap shirt and her pants undone as she grabbed her dark blue button up and pulled it on.
She looked over at her wife who had stopped fixing her hair and was openly staring. Jane snapped her fingers, "Hello, earth to Maura?"
Maura shook her head, smiled, and blushed. "Sorry, what were you saying?" Jane chuckled and walked over towards the bathroom.
"I asked why are we getting dressed up? It's just dinner with our kids." Jane repeated as she buttoned her shirt.
Maura put the finishing touches on her hair before walking over to her wife. She smoothed out the collar on Jane's button up and smiled. "We are going somewhere nice Jane. Putting a little effort into looking nice for dinner with our kids won't hurt."
Jane huffed."Why couldn't we just go somewhere we could wear jeans and a tee shirt?" She asked as she tucked her shirt in and finished fastening her pants.
"Jane, if we were to choose a place for jeans and tee shirts we could have just stayed home." Maura remarked as she slipped on her heels.
"That's not a bad idea, can we do that instead?"
"Jane, we never get the chance to do this with our girls. I know tonight is about filling them in on what's going on but that doesn't mean we can't still enjoy the night. Now, I'm going to finish my makeup and we can head down. Why don't you go check on the girls and make sure they are about ready."
Jane nodded before slipping on her boots. As she walked towards the door she stopped. "Hey Maur?"
"Yeah love?" Maura said as she stuck her head out the bathroom.
"You look gorgeous." Jane remarked with a smile before heading out of the bedroom to check on Jess and Blaire's progress.
As she made her down the hall Jess was emerging from her bedroom.
"Wow Jess, you look beautiful," Jane said to her daughter. She couldn't remember the last time she saw Jess in a dress. "You take after your mom in the style department, that's for sure."
Jess blushed and smiled. "Thanks ma, mom actually helped me pick this out a while ago. I just never had a reason to wear it." Jane kissed the top of Jess's head.
"Well you look beautiful, are you almost ready? Mom is just finishing up her makeup."
"Actually yes, I'm all done I'm just going to grab my purse and jacket." Jane looked down at her watch.
"We may just make it out of the house on time tonight. That will be the first in the Rizzoli-Isles household. That is if Blaire is ready." Jane remarked with a chuckle.
"I don't see that being a possibility, I mean for someone who gets called out to fires and can be out the door in no time she sure takes forever to get ready, especially for someone who claims to not be all that girly." Jess remarks as she heads back into her room to grab her purse and jacket.
Jane laughs before knocking on Blaire's door. "Come in!" Blaire yells from the other side. Jane steps into her daughter's room and can't help but laugh.
"Geez, B. Did your closet throw up in here?" Jane asks as she looks around at all the shoes and dresses tossed about.
Blaire stuck her head around the door of her closet. "We can't all be like you ma, mom picks out and lays out your clothes for you." Blaire steps out the closest in her robe.
"You aren't even dressed yet Blaire? Mom is going to flip."
Blaire glared at her ma. "I'll have you know my hair and makeup are done. I'm just looking for something to wear."
Jane laughed. "Okay, how about I help you pick out something? That will save some time."
Blaire looked at Jane and almost laughed. "What? I'm a woman too, I know how to pick outfits," Jane says as she picks up one of the discarded dresses and a pair of heels.
"How about this?" She asks as she holds it up to Blaire.
The blonde shook her head and took the items from her ma. "I appreciate your help ma, but I think I understand now why mom picks out your clothes," she says with a laugh.
Jane couldn't help but grin. "Yeah you're probably right but seriously Blaire, just pick something. You will look great in any one of these dresses."
"Thanks ma, but this will go a lot faster if you just left it up to me to decide. Why don't you go check on the littles or Jess even."
Jane scoffed and mocked offense. "Seems like all the Rizzoli-Isles women are pushing me out of their rooms. See if I offer my fashion advice again," she says heading for the door. "Oh and by the way, Jess is ready. We are just waiting on you."
With that Jane headed out the door. If she knew anything about her daughter it was that she couldn't stand to lose. She knew Blaire would get a move on if she thought she would lose her and Maura's bet.
Jane made her way downstairs, and headed out to start the car. When she returned inside she sat down on the couch and waited. Twenty minutes past 8 Maura and Jess made their way downstairs.
"About time, what took you so long? Maur when I left you, you were almost done and Jess you were ready."
Maura laughed and kissed her wifes cheek. "I decided to change my dress and doing so I need to touch up my hair and makeup. Jess was helping."
Jane looked between her wife and daughter and shook her head. "What was wrong with the dress you had on?" Before Maura could explain, Jane spoke again. "Never mind, I called the restaurant and let them know we are running late. They will hold our table as long as we get there soon. I already started the car and put the heat on. Jess, can you please go get your sister and tell her to get a move on?"
Before Jess could turn and head back up the stairs Blaire came running down, coat, purse, jacket and heels in hand. "I'm coming, I'm coming. Let me just slip these on and then we can go."
Jane had to stifle her laughter as she looked at her watch. "Well it looks like neither of you won the bet but," she said looking from her wife to her daughters. "You all look beautiful." All three women smiled.
"Now, get your coats on and let's go. I haven't eaten since lunch and my stomach feels like it's ready to eat me if I don't feed it soon." Jane grabbed her and Maura's coat.
She held out the blonde's and let her step into it receiving a kiss on the cheek in return before putting her own coat on.
All four women were in the car, and on their way to the restaurant before 9. Jane would put this in the win column.
As they arrived at the restaurant Jane stepped out and quickly made her way around the car to open the door for her wife and daughters. She bowed and held out her head to her wife.
Jess and Blaire both laughed. "Is she always like this mom?" Blaire remarks, pulling her coat tighter around herself
Maura smiled and took her wife's hand. "She can be a little over the top when we go out but I think it's adorable."
Jane smirked and looked at her daughter as she and Maura made their way to the door. "She thinks I'm adorable."
Blaire laughed again and mumbles. "That's not the word I would have chosen."
Jane turns and looks over her shoulder. "I heard that." Jess and Blaire could only laugh.
After stepping inside the restaurant the women allowed their coats to be taken as Jane spoke to the hostess.
"Rizzoli-Isles, table of four."
The hostess nods and shows them to their table. As they all took a seat Jess was the first one to speak up.
"Wow mom, this place is beautiful. Had I known we were going to be going somewhere like this I would have picked a better dress."
"Jess stop, your dress is beautiful and yours to Blaire. You both look stunning." The girls blushed at their mothers compliment.
Their waiter for the evening approached their table and introduced himself and gave them a moment to look over the menu. He quickly took down their order and headed for the kitchen.
Conversations flowed freely until their meals arrived. Silence fell across the table as everyone began to eat.
Jane looked up from her plate and caught the looks being shared between her daughters. She looked over at Maura. No words needed to be said between the two women. Now was the time to bring the girls up to speed.
Jane placed her fork down and wiped her mouth before taking a sip of her water. She found her mouth suddenly void of all moisture. She cleared her throat but before any words could be said Blaire spoke, her words coming quickly.
"Are you getting a divorce? Is that why you brought us here tonight? I really hoped that this morning would help but..." Jane quickly put her hand on Blaire's and squeezed.
"B, slow down. Your mom and I are not getting a divorce."
"But mom was..." Again Blaire was stopped by Jane.
"I know what mom was doing and none of you need to worry. We are not getting a divorce. Mom and I love each other very much, so much so that neither of us know how to live without the other. We wanted to take you girls out tonight for two reasons. One being to spend time with you. Mom brought it to my attention that we haven't done this before and two is because we feel that since you are both grown and can understand the situation that now would be the time to explain what is going on." Jane took another sip of her water as Jess asked.
What IS going on moms? I mean one day you are happy and together and then the next ma leaves for a month and mom was gathering information from a divorce attorney."
Jane watched as Maura picked up her wine glass and downed half of it before meeting their daughter's gaze. "Girls, I don't know how to say this other than to just come out and say it. Maddy doesn't belong to your ma. She is mine."
Jess was clearly confused. "Wait, you had IVF. That's not possible. They literally implanted ma's eggs into your uterus. It's not like you had extra eggs of your own lying around," Jess said with a chuckle.
"Actually, I do," Maura said matter of factly. "During my first marriage I had some frozen at that very clinic just in case I wasn't able to have kids until later in life. I wasn't in a good marriage and I didn't know what the future would hold. That was my first thought when this all came about, that the clinic made some huge mistake. I've gone over everything with them with a fine tooth comb though and this isn't because of them. Before either of you ask, I did not cheat. That's what your ma thought initially and I'm here to you all, I didn't cheat."
Jess furrowed her brow as she thought what her mom just said over. "First off, I would never think you would cheat on ma. Second, even if you did, I don't know how you could possibly get pregnant naturally after IVF. You'd already be pregnant. I think it's a mistake."
Maura sighed. "No Jess. It's not a mistake. It is a rare occurrence but if I was sexually, if I…" Maura couldn't even bring herself to finish the sentence.
"If she was with someone within a few days of the IVF, it's possible that she got pregnant both naturally and from the IVF."
Maura nodded. "In some cases, a woman might already have a fertilized egg or embryo implanted in her uterus when she spontaneously ovulates again. If she has sex while the second egg is viable, that egg can also implant. It is very rare but it is known as superfetation."
"So if you didn't cheat on ma and it wasn't a clinic mistake." Jess dropped her mouth open as realization suddenly hit her.
"Oh my God. That's why you were having lunch with Olivia. Someone raped you."
Jane and Maura watched as every bit of color drained from Blaire's face. She pushed back her chair and quickly excused herself before swiftly making her way to the bathroom.
Jess went to get up from the table but Jane stopped her. "It's okay Jess, stay here with mom. I'll go check on her."
Jane pushed her chair away from the table. As she walked towards the bathroom she could feel eyes on her. Instead of addressing the few patrons who were watching her every move she continued her walk to the bathroom.
Pushing the door open she caught a glimpse of Blaire standing at the sink, her head hung low. Jane shut the door and locked it before placing her hand on Blaire's shoulder causing the blonde to jump.
"Hey, hey it's okay B it's just me." Jane said softly, looking at her daughter with concern. Blaire began to cry harder as she threw herself into Jane's arms. The scene playing out reminded Jane of Blaire's breakdown on the bathroom of her ma's cafe all those years ago.
Jane held her daughter close and as her sobs started to slow Jane spoke. "Blaire, sweetie, look at me." When Blaire met Jane's eyes her heart broke.
"B, mom and I didn't mean to upset you. We should have taken into consideration your past and what you went through. I'm so sorry."
Blaire shook her head. "No, ma that's not it," she said as her eyes filled with tears again. Jane grabbed a few paper towels and dabbed away her daughter's tears.
"Blaire, talk to me. What's going on?" Jane asked, brushing Blaire's hair from her face.
"It was him ma." She said before leaning against the sink.
Jane's eyebrows pulled together in confusion. "It was him who Blaire? What are you talking about?"
"It was him ma! I know it!" Blaire said louder than intended. Her breath coming in short bursts.
"Okay, B calm down. Sweetie, you're gonna have to help me out here because I'm completely lost," Jane said, trying her best to be understanding.
"My step-dad ma, he's the one who did this to mom."
Jane opened and closed her mouth a few times, not being able to find words.
"He said that he knew who had Amelia and if I didn't go back home he would hurt all of you.It wasn't long after that I was picked up. It was him ma. I just know it," Blaire said as her sobs returned in full force.
Jane pulled Blaire back into her arms holding tight as Blaire tried to pull away. "No ma, this is my fault. I should have just done what he wanted."
Jane stepped back and held Blaire by her shoulders. "Blaire look at me." When the blonde didn't look up Jane repeated herself a little more forceful. "Look at me Blaire!"
Blaire looked up and met Jane's gaze. "Blaire, one this was not your fault." Blaire went to protest but was quickly silenced. "No B, listen to me, even if he had been the one to do this it would have never been your fault. Do you understand?"
Blaire hesitantly nodded. "Good, now I know for a fact it was not him Blaire. Mom was already pregnant when you came into our life. I promise you I will find out who is responsible and he will pay for what he's done." Jane held her daughter's gaze until her own tears finally fell.
"She was pregnant when I came into her life. Not Amelia. There's a chance…"
Jane put her finger to her daughter's lips. "If it was, he'll pay. No matter who it was, they will pay. It is very unlikely it was him Blaire but I'll have a DNA test run against Amelia's to be sure, OK? I think he was just power playing a sixteen year old child."
Silence fell between the two as they pulled themselves together. Blaire was the first to speak. "Is that why you left ma?"
Jane took a deep breath and replied. "Yeah B, that's why I left. It wasn't anything you kids did nor was it because I don't love your mom. I panicked and ran. It was the worst mistake of my life, I love each and everyone one of you and I love your mom. We are all going to get through this, together as a family okay?"
Blaire nodded and wiped her tears. Jane pulled her daughter into her arms and held her tightly. After a few minutes they pulled apart and Jane handed Blaire more paper towels.
"No more tears B, you're gonna ruin your makeup," she said with a grin, causing Blaire to laugh.
"Thanks for coming after me ma." Blaire said as she turned and faced the mirror to fix what little makeup she had on.
"I'll always come after you Blaire, mom and I will always be there for all of you."
Blaire smiled at her ma from the mirror as her eyes landed on Jane's shirt. "Oh no, ma my makeup smeared on your shirt," she remarked, turning around to inspect the damage.
Jane looked down and shrugged. "It's okay B, don't worry about it. I'm sure your mom has something that will get it out. If not, I'll just get another shirt. Your mom is always looking to take me shopping. This will just give her a reason." She remarked with a laugh.
After Blaire fixed her makeup and calmed down Jane unlocked the door. "Let's go finish dinner, I'm sure mom and Jess are wondering what's going on."
Blaire nodded and followed Jane back out to their table.
"Everything okay love?" Maura asked as Jane and Blaire took their seats. Jane leaned over and kissed her wife's cheek.
"Everything is okay Maur, we can talk about it when we get home. Let's just enjoy the rest of our dinner with our daughters." Jane smiled, causing Maura to smile. She looked over at her daughter and silently asked if she was in fact okay.
Blaire nodded and the conversation picked up only to be halted by Jane's phone.
Jane looked down and immediately answered. "Hey Em, is everything okay?"
"Um, well." Emily said, trying not to laugh.
"Well what Em? Are the girls okay? Do we need to come home?" Maura looked at her wife concerned.
"What's wrong Jane?" She whispered and Jane held up her hand as she waited for a response from Emily.
"Have Maura check her phone. I'm going to hang up."
"Wait Em." It was too late. Emily had already hung up. Jane looked at her wife and chuckled.
"Well?" The table said as a whole.
"I don't even know, all she said was for you to check your phone Maur." As soon as those words left Jane's mouth Maura's phone pinged with a notification from Facebook.
"That's odd, it says Emily is live streaming. Do you think that's what she was talking about?" Maura asked as she opened up her phone.
Maura's phone came to life with Emily's voice and Maura had to quickly turn the sound down.
Blaire and Jess came around the table to see Emily's live. "Oh no." Maura said, covering her mouth. Jane, Jess and Blaire broke into loud laughter causing a few of the other tables to turn and look.
"Shhh," Maura reprimanded her wife and daughters. "Jane love, would you take care of the bill while the three of us step outside? I don't want to disturb the other customers anymore than we already have."
"Sure babe, but don't close out the video. I want to see how this turns out." Jane remarked, chuckling as she stood from the table with her coat to go pay the bill.
When she was done she made her way out to her girls and Maura who was standing in the parking lot doubled over in hysterical laughter. All three had tears streaming down their cheeks. Jane stepped behind her wife so she could see the screen.
"Come on Em. This isn't funny. Put the camera away," Riley said as her cheeks flushed with embarrassment.
Jane grinned as she pulled out her phone and was getting ready to dial Riley's number.
"Uh uh ma. Let's go," Blaire said, displaying a sheepish grin.
A little while later as they drove into the McDonald's parking lot Blaire laughed. "It's official. Hell has frozen over. I never thought I'd see mom step foot inside of a McDonald's."
As they climbed out and made their way towards the entrance Blaire stopped in front of the big red fire truck that was sitting at the curb.
"Hey fellows," she says in greeting. "Need a hand?"
One of the guys shrugs his shoulders. "The franchise owner doesn't want to cut on it if possible because it's old and there are very few of them left out there. He said he paid a lot of money for it."
Blaire stood for a moment as she thought over Riley's predicament. "What about Vaseline? If we put that all over her head and the bars would it work?" The guy shrugged his shoulders again. "It's worth a shot."
"There's only one problem with that B. You don't have any vaseline," Jane pointed out.
"No, but this is McDonald's. They have plenty of grease," Maura says, trying her best to keep a straight face.
That caused Blaire, Jess, and Jane to all fall into another round of deep belly laughter.
"Man, this is going to be great," Jane says as she makes her way into McDonald's behind her family and the firefighters. As they made their way out to the playground Jane noticed Emily wasn't the only person that was live streaming.
"Congratulations Riley. You're now famous. Maybe this is karma for you teasing Cailin so hard when she went viral."
"Can it Rizzoli. I…" Before Riley could finish what she was saying she broke out into laughter.
"St-t-top it girls. Stop! That's enough."
Jane noticed the culprits of Riley's laughter. Maddy and Abby were on either side of her. They had taken her shoes off and each was tickling one of her feet. Her head stuck between the metal bars, she was completely at their mercy.
Jane watched this in amusement for a minute or so before Riley called to her.
"Come on Jane. Make them stop."
"OK girls. That's enough. Leave Aunt Ry alone."
Jane walked over and reached up helping each of the twins down from the giant hamburger climber gym.
"Man, I thought these things were phased out years ago. Too many kids got their heads stuck I heard. I guess you missed the memo."
"Shut up Jane."
"Emily, where's Amelia?" Blaire asked as she took a look around.
Emily's eyes grew wide. "I, I, she, I…" The brunette stumbled over her words.
Blaire took off running with Jane right behind her. "Amelia, Amelia," she called loudly as she ran inside and through the restaurant. She had almost made it to the back when she almost barrelled straight into her little girl. She scooped her up into her arms and sobbed loudly as a slew of onlookers stared.
"Go on, nothing to see here," Jane said as she glared at the peanut gallery before reaching out and pulling Amelia from Blaire's arms to hers and headed towards the bathroom.
"You know better than to be going off by yourself like that Amelia."
Emily and Maura had caught up and Emily knew Jane was about to go spank the little girl. She had to step in even though she knew it was going to piss Maura off. Jane too but Jane tended to be a little more easy going than Maura when it came to the kids.At least she had been with Jane and Maura long enough to not be fired. Well, she hoped.
"Jane, don't. I told her to go."
Maura's eyes widened in disbelief. "Excuse me? You did what?"
"I was distracted and not thinking. I'm sorry. I know it was stupid of me."
"That's an understatement," Maura said loudly.
"Blaire, why don't you take Amelia back out and keep an eye on her and the twins for us OK?" Jane asks as she passes Amelia back to Blaire.
Blaire nods her head. "Yes ma'am." As Blaire walked past Emily she shot her a dirty look of her own. She didn't need to say anything. Her mom had done that for her and her parents had really been on her about keeping her temper in check lately. "Wonder if ma is going to keep mom's in check?" Blaire thought to herself with a chuckle as she made her way back to the play area.
"What do you mean you told her to go?" Maura asks, trying to keep her voice from rising and attracting more attention than they already had.
"She said she needed to go to the bathroom and I said go ahead. I wasn't even really paying attention. I was distracted. Like I said, I'm sorry. I know it was careless."
"Well, luckily for you she is OK because if anything happened to my daughter I'm sorry wouldn't suffice."
Jane placed her hand on Maura's shoulder, a gentle bid to please calm down, as Maura had done to her many times.
"She said she's sorry, Maur. She's human. Humans make mistakes. Amelia is fine. There is no reason for us to make a big deal out of it. Emily has made it five years with us without making a mistake. I would say that is a pretty good track record. I wish she would give me some pointers."
Maura sighed. "OK. I'll let it go but please be more mindful Emily."
"Well, I mean, her wife's head is stuck in a giant hamburger. I can see how she got distracted."
That caused Maura to bust into laughter again, serving its purpose.
"So, shall we go watch Riley get all slathered up in oil?"
"You know what? That sounds kind of hot," Emily says as her cheeks flushed.
"Get your head out of the alleyway Emily. There are kids here," Maura says as she walks towards the play area.
"Gutter Maur. How many times do I have to tell you it is gutter?"
Jane shakes her head and pats Emily on the shoulder as they both make their way back to the play area behind Maura.
Jane walked around where Riley could see her. "Alright Ry, are you ready to grease that big head of yours?" She remarks with a laugh. Riley tilted her head, shock written all over her face.
"Wait, What?"
"What, you didn't hear? The owner doesn't want to cut into this thing if possible so the only solution is to grease your head, don't worry though. If this works you'll come sliding right out."
Jane snorted with laughter when Riley looked at Emily. "Is she serious?"
"I'm afraid so love. I'm sorry, they will try to be as quick as possible." Riley groaned and let her head down.
Standing nearby, Blaire laughed.
"We're actually going to take it apart Riley. We don't need to cut on it. It just has to be disassembled and once you're free we will put it back together. No harm to you or this ancient artifact."
"Hey! This thing was popular when I was a kid! It is not ancient!" Riley says as she glares at Blaire.
Over the next hour the firefighters worked hard at disassembling the burger climber toy. Finally, Riley was freed much to her relief.
"Why in the world did you do that in the first place Ry?" Blaire asks with a chuckle.
"I just wanted a picture," Ry says sheepishly.
"Well, I have your picture and about, um, an hour worth of video," Emily says as she chuckles.
Thanks for the support babe," Riley says with the dirtiest look she can muster.
"I'm sorry baby. You know years from now you'll laugh at this," Emily says as she leans in and kisses Riley on the lips. "Why don't we get out of here and go get Adam. Do you want to take the kids Jane or do you want to take them with you?"
"Do you mind taking them? We have to stop off and get Callie. Once we have her we won't really have room. We didn't bring the SUV."
"Man Rizzoli, back when I met you I would have never pictured you as the SUV soccer mom," Riley says as she pokes Jane in the side. "I guess all those kids didn't fit in that truck of yours." Before Jane could reply Emily interrupted.
"I know it's late but um,once you get home with Callie and we get home with Adam, we all need to talk."
Jane looked from Maura, to Emily, and finally Riley before groaning loudly. "I don't even want to know."
