Hello, this is BrYtt BRatt, here in 2021(!) and now at over twice the age I was when I first started this story. I've been cleaning house lately, ended up finding this again, and thought I'd give it some closure since I even wrote back then that I had the goal of finishing something. Looking back at what I made makes me cringe now, but I don't regret it. The enjoyment I got from it back then was worthwhile, and the fact that I find it cringey junk now shows how my tastes have grown and changed since then. And I expect to continue growing and evolving as life goes on.

Anyway, since I left this story at a cliffhanger despite having the ending in mind, I might as well give a brief summary of how it was going to be ended so there's at least some kind of conclusion:

...

The visitors at the Powerpuff Girls' door are news reporters who arrived to ask the girls what happened after they returned to the suburbs from their fight and chase through the city, and where the Rowdyruff Boys were now. The girls tweak the story a bit to convince the citizens that the Rowdyruff Boys rebelled against Him and were going to try turning over a new leaf. After the press leaves, the girls finally go to bed.

In the meantime, Professor Utonium has the boys in his lab and explains that through some experimentation on Boomer's DNA that got left behind after the events of Bubble Boy (we shed hair and skin cells all the time), he discovered that the boys were chemically unstable due to Mojo Jojo making them with prison toilet water instead of pure Chemical X. There were presumably traces of Chem X in it because it came from Mojo himself, so not just any prison toilet would do. Due to the instability, the boys exploding the first time wasn't necessarily due to "cooties," which aren't even real, but from any strong enough shock. And it was likely that even if the girls hadn't kissed them, they still could have eventually fallen apart just from watching a horror movie or being jump-scared when the wind slams a door.

To stabilize them, the Professor gives the boys a Chemical X treatment similar to dialysis. They sleep through the procedure under anesthesia, and the Professor secretly adds in a small amount of diluted Antidote X to reduce the strength of their powers. He records in his computer that he doesn't completely trust the boys to be good yet, and he is doing this as a precaution to make them slightly weaker than the girls so that if they cause trouble, the girls can reign them in more easily. Only time will tell if this effect will last, or if the boys will eventually return to their original strength. He is also keeping this a secret from the girls themselves, and if anyone questions the difference in strength he will say it's because the girls are experienced superheroes with regular training and healthier lifestyles while the boys may have possibly had a slight power boost from their "cootie shot." If the boys were ever to find out about the Professor's deceit, he writes that the girls are completely innocent in this, and he alone is to bear the responsibility.

Finally, the Professor makes arrangements with a colleague to take in the boys and be their adopted parental figure. The story ends with the Powerpuff Girls riding the bus to school (it's an opportunity to sit with friends when they don't feel like flying), and the Rowdyruff Boys boarding the bus wearing the uniform for the same school. The meeting is a little awkward, with Bubbles making the most effort to try start a friendly conversation and the other five unsure in their own ways about what to do or say. But they all know inside that there's no rush to figure it out. They now have all the time they would ever need.

...

I planned to have the boys' uniform be a gakuran as a counterpart to the girls' sailor fuku, which I later learned is associated with middle school rather than elementary. Oops. Brick's uniform has the jacket open to show a white shirt underneath and he still wears his cap. The whole uniform idea in the first place was based on a fan art picture I saw on the now-gone fansite rowdyruff dot net.

I also intended all those years ago for this story to be a setup for a sequel titled "Ruff Puff Shuffle." It would have been an episodic combo of some action, comedy and slice of life as the PPGs and RRBs gradually become friendlier with each other. As popular as it was among the fandom to ship them, I would have avoided going far with that except maybe for some mild teasing at it, as writing blatant romance of any kind wasn't in my comfort zone.

But, that's all in the past now. Maybe someone could use an idea from this to get started on a story of their own. In which case, I preemptively give my full permission.

This particular account on this website is being permanently left. I thank everyone who played a part in my enjoyment of reading and writing for this fandom and on this site.
