AN: This chapter delves further into the mindsets of Rick and Morty. I tried to keep them from being OOC but please let me know if you feel that they are!
"M-My head hurts.." Morty starts. His eyes gaze at Rick's concerned face. "I-I-I keep hearing r-r-r-ringing. Awful, awful ringing." Rick watches his gaze come towards him and then back down to his hands. "Is-Is there anything el-else?" Rick questions, giving a slight demanding face. Morty sighs, he's not ready to talk about his thoughts of going back or leaving him behind. But he'll have to face it sooner or later. "I-I sound st-stupid for saying th-this but-" He pauses and starts to fidget with his fingers. Rick grows impatient when this pause lasts more than five minutes.
"M-Morty spit i-it out already." He impatiently demands. Morty keeps trying to find the words to what he wants to say. He feels like saying the sentence they way he's feeling is too stupid. He gulps and opens his mouth to immediately shut it with no noise coming out. Just fucking say it! If he laughs then he laughs, this is important, man. Morty thinks to himself while trying to still calm down and gain the courage to say what he needs to say.
Every extra minute that passes makes Rick even more impatient. What could be so important yet so hard to tell me? He thinks to himself. At least he's being more open than before. "Rick," Morty starts again, making the old man look at him. "I-I'm afraid of y-you dying o-or leaving me ag-again…" He doesn't look at Rick, afraid to see him laugh and say how stupid it was to think that. He braces for the sentence to come out of his mouth. Yo-You know that's a st-stupid thing to thi-think. I'm a fucking God, Mo-Morty. Not-Nothing could fucking kill me. He thought, hearing Rick's voice as Rick started to talk in all actuality. It wasn't what he had expected to come out of his mouth that ended up leaving him crying more.
"Mo-Morty, that's a va-valid concern judging by-by the Operation Phoenix sh-shit that didn't work earlier. And th-the amount of people af-after me."
After Chapter AN: This was shorter than I expected it to be. Without the author's notes it's a full 336 words. I will be posting a third chapter today. I hope I can get some feedback soon! I hope you all enjoyed the chapter and the story so far!
