I don't own Night at the Museum
Ancient Egypt 1991 B.C.
The encounter with Neferet had been rather...awkward if Kahmunrah was to think of it as such. His chances of avoiding this woman were growing slim now that she had become part of the family. He didn't ignore her because of her persona. In fact, he found her rather amusing to have around especially of that naïve outlook that she had on things. His reasons for ignoring her was due to his brother's success and she served as an example of that. Everywhere he turned there were others muttering Ahkmenrah's name between one another, what he had succeeded, and there was no one that mentioned him. It was as if he was nothing but a mere commoner in the palace. Then again, he did take notice that whenever he passed by the servants of the palace, they would immediately halt their muttering and bow their heads whenever he passed by. They were aware of the older prince's temper and the punishments that he handed out to those who were insubordinate. At least they showed some form of respect and fear, which to him served as an importance rather than being benevolent. In the future, there could be those that might uprise against them as a royal family. In fact, whilst his father was a respected pharaoh there was also the possibility that there may be enemies lurking about. Now what good would that be to Egypt if the pharaoh was always kind-hearted and gave people, especially those that were enemies to the royal family, what they wanted? In Kahmunrah's mind, there needed to be some form of authority upon the people and he was the proper one for that. The older prince headed over to the balcony of the palace and oversaw the land of Memphis. It was lush and everyone seemed to be very happy but that just part of the picture. Kahmunrah knew that there were people that his father had forgiven where Kahmunrah didn't think deserved to be forgiven. Why have people get away with doing a bad deed?
But not anymore he thought to himself as he scanned over the land from across the balcony once more. All he needed was to remain patient and await for the proper time to carry out his deed. It had been years that he had been patient and he was surprised with himself how long it had lasted. He had gotten on his parents' last nerve with the sarcastic attitude but it was all for this reason. When Ahkmenrah had been chosen as the next heir to the throne, he had tried so hard not to despise his parents for their choice but all of that inner hatred that he beheld had clouded his mind and judgement to the point where he considered them as a minuscule part of his life. His father was indifferent about Kahmunrah's choice but his mother had tried all that she could to make him feel like he was part of the family. Kahmunrah had appreciated her for doing that but he had only pushed her away to the point where he had created a barrier between them. Now his mother wouldn't dare comfort or hug him after what he had done and he had gotten used to that. As for his brother, Kahmunrah had to give him credit for how much he was trying to reconcile their relationship. It was quite amusing to Kahmunrah and rather pathetic. How interesting it would be if Kahmunrah had achieved in getting the throne and to have his brother groveling at his feet along with that bride of his, but even that little fantasy couldn't come true considering the situation. Sometimes it was better to just have events play out as they have and remain with that patience that he has had for years.
It is still not too late Kahmunrah thought deeply as he looked up at the sky and noticed the sun beginning to set in the horizon. Almost dinnertime and he would be sitting with his family and hearing over and over again about his brother's accomplishments and the future with his bride. They were just frivolous affairs that Kahmunrah could care less about but if he didn't go, then he knew very well that he would hear of his father's disappointment.
Not that it's a new word to me. I have always been a disappointment he thought. Words that had affected him in the past years but after constantly hearing them and accepting it, he had grown immune to it all.
After her encounter with Kahmunrah, Neferet had stayed a bit longer in the room. Curious about the weapons that he had cleaned, she had picked up one of the khopeshes and held it in her grip. The weapon was heavy in her grip that she had to hold it with both of her hands to support the weight. It was very fascinating how quick he was in using that weapon to fight against an opponent and also to use it for self-defense. From what she had witnessed, there was a form of skill that both Kahmunrah and the statesman used rather than waving their weapons randomly in the air. Also, how did they memorize all of those moves? It was probably years of training but in Neferet's eyes she could see that Kahmunrah had a form of enjoyment in this.
Was this what he always did when she didn't see him around in the halls or at a gathering with the family? The past couple of days that Neferet had been here, she had noticed that he had been missing from some of those family events and she had questions where he was. A part of her thought that he could be avoiding her, but what was his reason in doing so? It wasn't as if she had done anything to him. Unless her presence here made him troubled and even with that, she couldn't understand what she had done. The thought of him being shy had crossed her mind but that was unlikely. He didn't seem to be a shy man at all! Now that was a part of the family, he was just going to have to get used to that fact that she was going to be here everyday but she still wanted to create a healthy familial relationship between them.
She looked over at the pair of khopeshes that were on the table and her eyes brightened. She had been curious to know how those are used and perhaps it would be a good time to spend with one another. Also, there could be a moment where such skills could be important. A slight smile came upon her lips as she headed out of the room and into the halls of the palace. It was a good proposal to make, especially during dinner with the family.
A/N: Hello, thank you for the reviews thus far. I know that this has been on a long hiatus but I have gone through the chapters and made some chapter additions and corrections. It has come to my attention that some chapters may look odd or out of order (maybe this site is trying to update them in the proper order as shown on Live Preview) but if this continues please let me know and I will do my best to fix that issue. Again, thank you for the reviews on this story!
