I don't own Night at the Museum
Washington D.C., 2009 A.D.
Trapped. That's how the both of them felt and Neferet knew that there was nothing that she could physically do to save herself. A part of her had wished that she had remained where she was and away from the basement but that wouldn't have stopped her curiosity from venturing furthure. She turned her head and looked over her shoulder where she took notice of Ahkmenrah looking defeated as he sat next to that hourglass. Neferet wanted to go and comfort him but he had been distant with her and she didn't want to push any emotion upon him. She knew that being in his brother's presence, after the relationship that they had, was difficult for him and having her presence there she knew would only make it worse. It had been a terrible mistake that she had done four thousand years ago. The more she thought about those fateful nights, the more at fault she became...and she knew there were no Ancient Gods or Goddesses that would save her now.
"What form of matrimonial relationship is this?" came Kahmunrah's booming voice towards Neferet and Ahkmenrah.
Both of them looked up and before them, they noticed Kahmunrah walking in with a robe wrapped around his body with the words 'Muhammad Ali' written at the back. Ahkemrnah rose an eyebrow at his brother's choice of wardrobe whilst Neferet glared at his presence.
"You two shouldn't be apart from one another," Kahmunrah continued, "or did she tell you her story of what happened four thousand years ago?" he asked as he turned his attention towards Ahkmenrah.
There was nothing more in the world that Ahkmenrah wanting to throw himself at Kahmunrah and do the same thing that he had done. However, Ahkmenrah knew that the would be stooping to his brother's level and he didn't wish to do that. "What are you wearing?" was the question that he gave to him, "you look ridiculous."
On any other night, Kahmunrah would have argued with his brother to the point where he would make sure that he would win. Tonight was a different night for him. He had three people hostage, Larry was on his way in figuring out the combination, and he had strong diabolical leaders that would help him in his plans for world domination. He was not going to let his little brother ruin this night for him. "Whatever do you mean?" he chided his brother, "this makes me feel like a floating butterfly."
Ahkmenrah shook his head at his brother's words whilst Jedediah stared at the pharaoh in pure confusion.
"You're crazier then a road lizard," the miniature cowboy stated. The sand in the hourglass was only getting higher as the time passed, making the cowboy feel that Larry was quickly running out of time. He raised her eyes from the sand and then took notice of two unfamiliar exhibitions that Ivan's army bought towards Kahmunrah. "Who in the Sam heck are they?" he asked as he looked at the darkly clothed exhibition and another one who was inside a trash can.
Ahkmenrah had never encountered such exhibitions before and he could tell that they were enthusiastic to ally with his brother. His brother already had an interesting alliance with a tsar, a gangster, and a French emperor and with the addition of a robot and a puppet out of a trash can made it seem like his brother was desperate if he were to accept.
"Ahkmenrah," a voice whispered behind him and the young pharaoh turned around to com face to face with Neferet who had made her way over to him.
Ahkmenrah stood on his feet and looked at her, but keeping a distance between them. "Yes?" he asked.
Neferet's eyes bounced over to Kahmunrah who was engrossed in speaking with those two exhibitions that had been bought over. "I have an idea to get away from him."
Getting away from his brother had been something that Ahkmenrah had planned on doing before he and Larry were caught by Napoleon. However, it was Neferet that had proposed the idea and a part of him didn't think that he could trust her. There was something that he was missing from their history but he didn't know what it was. But another part of his mind said to go ahead and trust her, that she maybe had a decent plan to help them escape. I have to make a decision and fast he thought to himself before nodding his head and allowing Neferet to continue.
A small smile came upon her lips as she looked at Ahkmenrah. "They are too occupied right now," she said as she looked at Kahmunrah and Ivan who continued to speak with the exhibitions, Napoleon who was looking out the window with a small scope, and Al Capone who was polishing his Tommy gun. "We can make a run for it."
"I see a flaw in your plan," Ahkmenrah spoke up, "there are four against two. What makes you think that we have the odds at escaping them?" He knew that he was making a decent point in questioning her motives. It would be no use if they tried to escape and get punished for it if they were captured.
"Because I can lure them away," Neferet said. She didn't know how she was going to do that but she felt that at least she had a plan. "Maybe this Guardian of Brooklyn of yours needs help with the tablet. That's why it's taking him so long to come back."
"Larry is a very smart man and he will be here in time," Ahkmenrah said. Hopefully Ms. Earhart hasn't led his astray he thought for he knew how excitable that woman was.
"He may be," Neferet said, "but you need to be with him. You're the only chance in stopping this Ahkmenrah."
At those words, he didn't have the chance in saving himself but was this his chance now to show his brother what he, as a young pharaoh, was made out to be? Perhaps he could help Larry in figuring out the combination but what would his brother do with it then? There were just so many things that his father had avoided in talking to Ahkmenrah about the tablet before his untimely death that Ahkmenrah wished he knew about.
"Attention!" Napoleon suddenly yelled from the window, "he's leaving with the tablet!"
At those words, Kahmunrah marched over to the window and took the small scope from Napoleon and looked out. "He's not trying to figure out the combination, he's trying to escape!" Enraged he turned to his allies and yelled, "go! All of you kill him and bring me that tablet!"
Neferet could see that the gangsters and Napoleon's and Ivan's army prepared themselves to leave. "Now!" she yelled as she grabbed the hourglass and made a run for it.
"Hey!" Jedediah yelled from within the hourglass as the sand sloshed to the side and almost buried him in it.
"Neferet!" Ahkmenrah yelled as he felt her hand grabbing his and pulling him alongside with her. Before he knew it, his legs were picking up speed as he tried to keep up his pace with hers.
Kahmunrah's hands clenched into fists as he looked at Neferet and Ahkmenrah escaping into the distance. "What are you standing around there for?" he yelled at the group, "get them!"
"What do ya want us to do first?" Al Capone shot back at the pharaoh, "ya want the tablet or Mardi Gras?"
To Kahmunrah, the tablet was the most important than his three prisoners. He was mostly keeping them to motivate Larry in figuring out the tablet but since he was escaping with it, what use could they be to him now? However, he did want his brother's presence in seeing him accomplish in taking over the world. As for Neferet, she had gotten away with it the easy way before and this time, he was going to make sure that she paid for what she had done. "The tablet if you can Mr. Capone," Kahmunrah calmly answered him. "I shall take to those matters myself."
Within the frenzy, both Neferet and Ahkmenrah skidded to a halt as they ran into an unknown gallery. Neferet reseted her back upon the wall and took a deep breath and clung onto the hourglass. Ahkmenrah bent over and rested his hands on his knees and tried to catch his breath. "Did we lose them?" he asked Neferet.
Neferet poked her head from the side of wall to get a better look and she didn't see anyone following them. "All is clear," she said to Ahkmenrah. "So it seems that your Guardian is escaping with the tablet."
Ahkmenrah shook his head. "No, Larry would never do that. I am sure he is finding a way to decipher it instead of stealing it."
"Seems that Kahmunrah isn't convinced at all," she said as she took the liberty and walked out of the gallery. "We have to go and look for your Guardian of Brooklyn wherever he may be."
It took all of Ahkmenrah's will to not say anything sarcastic to her. Of course they were going to find Larry! What else were they going to do? Just wait for Larry's arrival while his brother searched for them? "Then we must get moving," Ahkmenrah said. If he would judge by the position the window where his brother looked out, then he would assume that Larry was headed to the Air and Space museum. What business he had there, Ahkmenrah wanted to find out. "I think I know where he might be going," he said.
"Do you know?" Kahmunrah's voice came from behind them, causing both Ahkmenrah and Neferet to jump. "Then by all means share your thoughts brother, don't keep me waiting all night."
"Go!" Neferet said as she gave Ahkmenrah a push who went ahead and took off into a sprint. Neferet was about to run after him but she felt her arm being grabbed by Kahmunrah and pulled back. "Let go!" she yelled as she tried to pull free while keeping a grip onto the hourglass.
"Stop shakin' this darned thing. I'm gettin' sand in my mouth!" Jedediah yelled from within.
Neferet crashed into Kahmunrah as he pulled her closer. "Let you go where?" he asked her, "you don't wish to keep me company?"
"Not in a million years!" she said through clenched teeth and tried her hardest to break free from his grip but her attempts were futile.
Grabbing a hold of her other arm, Kahmunrah then pushed her by a nearby wall and her back crashed against it. She knew that her chances of breaking free were minimal and she allowed her arms to go limp under his tight grip. Kahmunrah took the hourglass out of her grip and placed it on a nearby display case. "That wasn't what you said four thousand years ago." A smirk came upon his lips as he looked into her eyes and noticed how frightened she look at this very moment. There was no one around that could save her from this situation. "In fact, you volunteered yourself for it."
Neferet furrowed her eyebrows and glared at him. "I was a fool to do so."
"A fool or a cheating wife?" he asked her before he lightly ran his thumb over her bottom lip. He bought his lips closer to her but hovered away for a mere second, "and I was a fool who fell for it too."
Before she knew it, he grabbed her arm once and pulled her along with him and back to where he had set up his 'throne.'
