New chapter up. Enjoy! Thanks for reading
Kia stood in front of the mirror in their chambers, looking at her stomach. Though it had only been a month since she found out she was pregnant, she could swear her stomach looked bigger. It obviously wasn't yet, she wasn't far enough along for any physical signs of her condition, but she just felt different.
Most likely it was just her eyes playing tricks on her, distracting her from just how worried she really was at the moment.
Anduin was scheduled to start his march to Lordaeron in a little over an hour and Kia was beside herself with worry. She understood why he needed to go, and why she needed to stay, but she was still upset by being left alone and the simple fact that Anduin was marching to war.
True, both her parents were staying in Stormwind, rather than marching with the king, so she wouldn't be truly alone, but this fact didn't help much. She was just doing her best to not start crying every time she thought about her husband leaving. Damn hormones.
Anduin entered the chambers dressed in full armor with his father's sword hanging at his side.
Again, Kia had to fight back tears. He looked so much like Varian. If his father were still alive, he'd be proud of the man his son had become. He'd be proud of the king he had become.
"It looks like a good portion of the surviving night elf sentinels are coming along." Anduin said.
Kia took a deep breath and let it out slowly, to collect herself. "I figured they would. There might not be many of them in Stormwind, but every single one of them is looking to strike back at those who destroyed their home."
"It makes me feel better knowing Malfurion and Tyrande are staying behind to help keep Stormwind defended. It's hard enough to leave you behind, but knowing you'll still have family here does help a little. You'll sit on the throne of Stormwind, and you'll have good advisers."
Kia didn't like the idea of being on the throne. She wasn't a king and hadn't been born to think like royalty, regardless of being Malfurion's daughter. But, she'd do what she must to allow Anduin some peace of mind. He didn't need to worry about Stormwind while he was gone. She was the queen and she had to start acting the part.
Anduin looked at Kia critically, then sighed, taking her hands. "I know you don't like being put into this situation, but my father was correct. There must always be a Wrynn on the throne of Stormwind and you are a Wrynn now. And, you carry a Wrynn within you." He placed a gentle hand on her stomach.
"I know and I'll take care of the city. You just be careful. Don't even think about making this child a king or queen before they're even born." Kia threatened jokingly.
Anduin placed a hand on her cheek. "I'll do my best, I promise."
He leaned in, kissing her softly on the lips, then pulled her into a hug. She wrapped her arms around his neck and started to cry softly. Kia would cry at just about everything, her hormones making it more difficult for her to control her emotions. It was unusual, since Kia had never been an emotional person, but the reason behind her new emotional state made Anduin smile.
"I love you so much, Anduin. Please come back to me."
Anduin squeezed her tighter, rather than answering her question with words. He couldn't promise he'd return. War didn't work that way and his bloodline had an unsettling habit of dying in battle. He couldn't think of a single thing to say which would reassure her, so he just held her and let her cry gently.
