Sooo… Been a super long time since the first chapter was posted. I wanted to work on writing more of the story. Sadly, free time is a rare commodity in the final year of college. Plus, the pandemic made things even more hectic and crazy.

Anyway, I'll try to update when I can but can't make any promises as education comes first.

Gohan laid down in the small room he had been offered to sleep in as the words from Oobleck earlier continued to ring in his mind. A huntsman, huh? No… A huntsman-in-training.

The offer was still so bizarre to think about for the hybrid warrior. It was only just a few hours ago that he had been transported to this world, and now he had the chance to attend a school for people who trained to become huntsmen and huntresses. Still, the chance to attend a real school was a very tempting one for the young man. After all, the only schooling he's ever received has been from tutors and his mother.

Thinking about it, the offer wasn't a bad one and it wasn't like he would be able to go home any time soon. At the very least, it would take six months for him to be wished back to his Earth and that was only assuming that weird trio hadn't asked for their second wish. "So, a year here at most, with no money and no place to really call home… Doesn't leave me many options."

He didn't have much time to make a decision either, with Oobleck leaving Grapha tomorrow to haul Axel and his thugs to jail. Gohan ran a hand through his hair and let out a huff of annoyance. This decision shouldn't be that hard to make, but he couldn't help but feel like it might be a mistake to accept it. Not because of some nefarious reason, with how warm his Ki had been, Gohan was certain that the teacher was a good man. Closing his eyes, the fighter allowed himself to fall asleep.

Morning came faster than Gohan would have liked. The bright light of the sun glaring into his eyes had him up at the crack of dawn. A yawn escaped the hybrid's mouth as he sat on the porch of the inn he had stayed the night in. The clock inside the lobby area had shown ten past seven when he had looked at it, meaning in a little under an hour, Oobleck would be leaving and Gohan's decision would need to be made.

"Oh! Gohan, quite the surprise to see you up so early."

The sudden voice broke Gohan out of his thought as he turned towards the person greeting him. Sylver, while covered in bandages here and there, was up and around with the little trouble after the amount of damage he received from the spat with the thugs just the day before. Another benefit to this Aura stuff, I guess. Giving the man a smile and a wave, Gohan hopped to his feet. "Hey Sylver, glad to see you're feeling better. But why is it surprising to see me up?"

"Well, most kids your age typically sleep as long as they can get away with. Then again, you definitely are not an ordinary kid." The older man came to a stop in front of him, a smile on his face as he breathed in the fresh morning air.

"Probably not wrong about that." Gohan let out a small chuckle as he rubbed the back of his, "I just couldn't sleep anymore and came down."

"Ah, excited about the offer you received yesterday?"

"You know about that?"

A small nod came from Sylver as he glanced away from Gohan, "When Oobleck came to see me yesterday, he mentioned that he had proposed the idea to you."

"Oh." Sylver's eyes glanced at the fighter at his less than enthusiastic response.

"Perhaps you aren't as excited as I was thinking you would be."

"It's not that I'm not excited or think it wouldn't be a great opportunity. I just… I'm not sure if it's the right choice for me."

Gohan was surprised as the head guard moved over and gave him a pat on the shoulder. "I understand how you feel, it is a big decision to make. Thinking it through as you are just means you understand the weight of your decision."

A small hum came from Gohan as he gave the older man a smile and a nod in thanks for the support. "What would you do, if you were in my place?"

"Hmm, that's a tough question. After all, I can't imagine being your age and being as strong as you are." A short chuckle left the man's lips before his face took on a thoughtful look. "However… If I were in your position, I'd take it."

"R-Really?" Gohan couldn't hold back his surprise at the answer he was given, he was half-expecting Sylver to say that because he was so strong, there was no point to going to a huntsman school.

"You're strong, and you have a good head on your shoulders. But a kid your age needs friends, and the best place to find friends you can count on and relate to would be at an academy."

Gohan's dark eyes narrowed in confusion as he pondered on Sylver's words for a few seconds, making sure to fully digest them before he spoke next. "Why do you say I need friends? How do you know I don't have any?"

"Pfft. You may be a powerful fighter, but you're a terrible liar." At the boy's wide eyes, Sylver laughed again. "I could tell there was more to your story when you showed up and talked to me. You seemed like a good person so I chose to let your little stories pass. I can tell though, you're on your own, aren't you?"

From the way he spoke, Gohan could tell he wasn't just referring to his current place in Grapha, he was talking about Gohan's place on this planet. A sad smile formed on the Saiyan's face as he let out a sigh. "Yeah, it's just me."

"I'm sorry." The warmth of the man's words cheered Gohan up just the slightest bit as his eyes locked onto Sylver's once more. "That's why you need friends, good ones that you can count and relate to. So that you don't have to be alone anymore."

With those words, Gohan realized something. Something that he had been unconsciously avoiding as he tried to stay positive about his predicament.

Even when he was out in the wilderness for six months of training to prepare for the arrival of Nappa and Vegeta, he always felt that Piccolo would come if he needed him.

But now…?

For the first time, he was truly on his own.

No friends, no family, no allies to come if he needed them.

That feeling, that lack of the security that he had grown used to was gone.

He must have been caught in his thoughts for longer than he had realized as Sylver spoke again, taking him out of his own mind. "I know it might be hard to reach out and take a risk when you're on your own. But think of all that you could gain by attending Beacon."

"Friends… A home away from home." Gohan muttered to himself, but Sylver smiled brightly as he caught the boy's words.

"Exactly! Doesn't that sound like something you need right now?"

Gohan opened his mouth to answer, only to be cut off as a group of guards rushed over to the two, with Oobleck in tow.

"Sir!" One guard yelled as they all came to a stop just a few feet away from Gohan and Sylver. "It's time to transfer the prisoners on to the Bullhead."

A tired breath left Sylver as he stepped towards his men, turning to give the hybrid one last look. "Just… Think on what I said. I'm sure you'll make the right choice for yourself."

Gohan watched as the squad marched off to the holding area. The only one who hung back was Oobleck, the thin man studying Gohan for a moment. "I suspect the two of you were discussing my offer for you to join Beacon Academy."

The huntsman's fast manner of speaking was still a bit difficult to keep up with, but Gohan was slowly getting used to it. "Yeah, we were."

"Did you come to a decision? If not, it'll be too-"

"I'll join Beacon."

Oobleck's eyes grew wide behind his glasses as he was cut off, not expecting the sudden answer from the boy. "I'm stunned. I was not expecting you to accept the offer so soon. I was expecting you to wait until the last possible moment."

"Originally, I was. Because I really couldn't figure out what I want to do. Thanks to Sylver though, I realized what was holding me back." A wide grin came onto Gohan's face as he looked into the professor's eyes. "I've been worried because I'm on my own for the first time ever, and I wasn't sure going to a school would be best for me. I wasn't sure if I even wanted to try and make friends when I'm not sure if I'd be able to keep them for long. Now, I know I need to find some people that I can trust. Even if it's not a lot, just a handful that I can call real friends."

Oobleck returned the boy's smile, nodding his head. "That's a very wise decision. It's not often someone can find the problem keeping them from happiness, and it's even more rare that they're willing to go out of their comfort zone to fix it."

"Thanks, I just hope that this works out like I think it will."

"I'm sure it will. I feel like you're a very capable young man, and that if you try, you will surely succeed."

Both men turned to the direction of the Bullhead as shout caught their attention, a guard yelling for the two to come as the Bullhead was set to depart in fifteen minutes.

"Well then, ready to go Mr. Son?"

Gohan smiled at being called that, unused to hearing someone call him so formally and finding it a bit funny. After the small spark of laughter left, all Gohan could feel was mounting excitement. "Yeah, I'm ready Professor."

Gohan's eyes remained aimed out the window of the Bullhead through the entire flight, mostly because he wanted to see as much of this new world while he could. The drop off for Axel and his gang had gone by in a flash, the police force of Vale making quick work to take them into their own custody. After, the journey in the bullhead continued once more, a much shorter one straight to Beacon Academy, Gohan's new school.

The thought was still such a foreign and bizarre one to the warrior, even though it was something he had wondered about and considered many times back home. As the ship landed down once more, the duo of Oobleck and Gohan stepped onto the ground with the hybrid excitedly glancing around the large area, noting all the people and interesting weapons he could spot. The strange thing though, was that none of the people seemed to be in the uniform the hyperactive man had told the teen about.

"I thought you said you were required to wear a uniform on campus?" Tilting his head to the older man, Gohan began walking forward. Oobleck following suit and walking in step with him.

"Oh, it is. But today is a special circumstance. All of the people you see before you are potential new students, here to participate in initiation." Oobleck also took the time to glance around, smiling softly at all of the potential he could see in the young hunters-in-training.

"Oh." Gohan's eyes slowly narrowed as he thought, only for them to widen as he turned and pointed at himself, "Wait, that means I need to clear initiation if I want to be a student?!"

"Yes, you will. Oh, my apologies, the thought of it simply slipped my mind. But I'm sure a person of your capabilities won't have any issue with the test."

Gohan opened his mouth to ask for more info on just what this test would be, but before he could get a word out, Oobleck's phone, or Scroll as the man had called it, began to ring.

"Ah, apologies, but this must be the headmaster questioning my whereabouts so I must leave you here. Good luck Mr. Son, though I am confident you won't need it."

With that, the man dashed away, Gohan was sure he would've completely missed him leaving if he had blinked. Letting out sigh and rubbing the back of his head, Gohan shook his head before walking towards the entrance that he could see. A simple test couldn't be that difficult, could it?

Before he could think or speculate on just what the test might be, a loud explosion nearby completely derailed his train of thought as his head snapped in the direction of the sound. Running to find the explosion site, Gohan was a bit lost at the sight before his eyes. Two girls, one in red and the other in white, both now completely covered in soot with the red one laying on the ground and groaning in apparent pain.

Gohan took a step forward to offer help and ask if the two were okay, but just before he could get a word out, the girl in white snapped. "How ridiculously foolish are you?! I tell you dust is dangerous, and you cause an explosion!"

Onyx eyes widened at the girl's sharp tone and fiery glare, for a moment he was almost too nervous to get near her and have that aimed at him but given the other girl was slowly getting up, he should do the right thing and try to help.

"Uh… Is everything alright here?" He asked nervously as he walked up to the two, coming to stand next to the downed one and offering both a small smile before he reached down with one hand to the red girl. "Think you can stand?"

"Oh, me? Uh, yeah, of course I can." The way the girl nervously responded and seemed so lost on what to do almost made Gohan chuckle, but he held the laughter back, just in case the girl would have taken it as him laughing at her. The girl grabbed onto his offered hand as he helped her onto her feet. "Oh, and thanks uh…"

"Son Gohan, it's nice to meet you." After making sure the smaller girl was on her feet and steady, he turned towards the other girl who was staring intently at him and the girl now standing next to him. This time, the boy couldn't hide the nervous laugh that left him at her glare. "It's uh… really nice to meet you as well, are you okay too?"

The girl seemed to take a moment, her eyes seeming to scan over his body, or perhaps she was looking at his gi, before she responded with the same harsh tone as before. "Physically, I am perfectly unharmed. However that does not excuse the actions of that child for doing such a stupid thing!"

"It was an accident! Besides, it was your fault for waving that bottle of dust around like that, you know." The red girl seemed to have found her voice for a moment, only to shrink as the other girl's eyes seemed to glow in rage.

"She does have a good point. You'd think the heiress to the Schnee Dust Company would know to handle dust better."

All eyes instantly snapped to the new entry into this mess, a black-haired girl with golden eyes and black bow in her hair. In one of her hands, a book that Gohan couldn't see the title of, and in the other, a via of what he could assume was the dust that caused the explosion.

"I- You- Excuse you! Just who do you think you're talking to?!"

The angry tone and glare seemed to not affect the new girl as walked up to the fuming girl. "Weiss Schnee, heiress to the Schnee Dust Company. I thought I made it obvious I'm aware of who you are and don't care."

The girl, now identified as Weiss, seemed about to explode in an even great rage than before. Only to calm down somewhat at the last second to swipe the bottle of dust out of the girl's hand before turning to the baggage next to her and storming off without a word.

A breath that Gohan hadn't even realized he had been holding in finally left him before he took another to calm his nerves. For a second, it felt like Weiss was about to attack the girl. Speaking of the golden-eyed girl, he should probably introduce himself to… her.

His eyes glanced around, where did she just disappear to? He could have sworn she was right in front of him and hadn't moved.

The sound of a thud behind him made him turn his head in surprise, the red girl having fallen back onto the ground, or rather crater, he had first found her in. As he was about to go and help her for a second time, another person came to join the mess. This one offering a kind yet nervous smile as he reached a hand to the downed girl.

"Hey, need some help?"

Huh… Déjà vu." The girl grabbed his hand and allowed herself to be pulled up yet again, letting out a sigh as she hung her head in embarrassment and exhaustion. "My first day at Beacon and I screw up so bad and even blow up…"

That definitely was not how one would want to start their first day at a school, Gohan was sure of that. "Well, try to think of it this way." He said as he moved back over to stand by the two, "That would mean things can only go up from here, right?"

"Heh. Yeah, I guess that's true… Oh and thanks again for helping me, and uh you too. I'm Ruby." Ruby nodded nervously, glancing back and forth between Gohan and the boy who had just helped her up.

"I'm Jaune Arc, and I'm happy to help. After all, strangers are just friends you haven't met yet."

A smile made its way onto the Saiyan's face at the saying, it reminded him a lot of how his father treated people. "And I'm Gohan, just so I'm not the only one to not introduce themselves."

As the three talked a bit more and began to make their way to the gathering area for initiation, Gohan was starting to feel a lot more hopeful towards his time here after meeting two nice people like Ruby and Jaune. Though, that Weiss girl and the one with the bow from before still had him a bit nervous.

Ruby let out a breath as her small group all made it to the auditorium. She glanced back and forth between the two boys that had offered her help. Both currently taking in the view of the crowd and talking about how excited they were for the upcoming days. A smile came onto her face as well, as that rush of excitement hit her too, especially now that she had to friends to make things a bit easier. And also, maybe, potentially protect her from the angry heiress. Out of the corner of her eyes, Ruby caught her sister looking toward her and waving.

"Oh oh, there's my sister! She's waving at me so I should probably go see what she wants. But uh, maybe we can hang out later and stuff…?" She couldn't help but be nervous, she really was never any good with new people and friends.

The two potential students in front of her didn't seem to even notice how nervous she was as the turned and smiled. "Sure thing Ruby, sounds like it'd be fun."

Gohan nodded, "Yeah, what Jaune said. We'll see you later."

"O-Okay, then I'll see you guys." Turning and running over to her sister, Ruby couldn't stop the wide smile that spread across her face. Only that smile died as soon as she came up to her sister and was reminded of how her so called family ditched her right out of the bullhead. "Yang, why did you leave me?!"

Yang however didn't even seem fazed by her question or like she was evening going to respond to it as her lilac eyes were on the two boys behind her. A sigh left her as Yang rubbed her eyes as if to fight a headache, "Ruby. When I waved you over, I meant for you to bring your new friends with you so I could meet them."

Ruby's eyes widened before she turned her head around, spotting Gohan and Jaune currently talking to each other a good distance away. "Oh… oops. How was I supposed to know?"

"Well whatever, I'll meet them sooner or later. Just next time, I want to meet them."

"Okay, but before that, I have a bone to pick with you." Ruby glared at her older sibling as she spoke, pointing an accusing finger at Yang, who only chuckled at the sight of her. "How could you leave me alone like that?!"

"Oh come on Ruby, it clearly didn't go that bad. I mean you made two friends." Yang made a point to motion to the two who were still visible through the small crowd of people.

"And one enemy! Before I met them, I bumped into this really mean girl and knocked over her luggage. Then she started ranting at me then I exploded-"

"Wait, you what?"

"And then she got even angrier and scarier after this other girl showed up and-"

"You!" A sharp voice sounded out from behind Ruby, a voice she instantly recognized that sent a shock down her spine and made her leap into the safety of her sister's arms.

"Oh god, please not again!" Ruby clung tightly to Yang, thankful that the blonde had caught her instead of letting her drop onto the floor.

"I still have a few things I need to say to you after that explosion you caused." Cold and piercing blue eyes had Ruby shivering as she glanced back at Weiss, her attention on the heiress only broken by her sister mumbling.

"Oh my god, you actually exploded… How did you manage to explode?"

"It wasn't my fault, it was an accident Weiss!" Hopping down back onto her feet, Ruby turned towards the angry girl. "And I said I was sorry for that."

"That doesn't excuse the mistake, you could have killed both of us with that blast. That's why you need to educate yourself!" Weiss pulled out a booklet from her jacket, holding it out in one hand for Ruby, the title in clear view to her and Yang. 'Dust for Dummies'.

Ruby didn't reach out to take the book, she didn't get a chance to respond either as Yang spoke up. "Uh, thanks but no thanks. She doesn't need that. Can't you cut her a break, um, Weiss, right? It's only the first day, so maybe you two can just start over and pretend it never happened?"

"That sounds like a great idea. Ahem, hello Weiss, I'm Ruby and it's really nice to meet you. I'm sure want to be friends?" Behind her, Ruby could have sworn she heard her sister slapping a hand to her face and let out a sigh.

"Oh, that would be my utmost pleasure, Ruby! We can hang out and go shopping and have sleep overs!" Ruby almost couldn't believe her ears or eyes the way Weiss' mood and tone shifted.

"Really?" The reaper couldn't help but be excited at the prospect. Another new friend and getting rid of the potential enemy in Weiss would definitely be a win win.

"No." The light in her eyes and smile on her face fell as Weiss replied with a flat tone. "Now listen you-"

Before Weiss could speak anymore, a voice sounded out over the crowd, grabbing the attention of every person in the room.

"I'll keep this brief."

So that was the headmaster huh… He didn't look like I figured he would. Gohan thought to himself as he finished changing into some sleepwear, which was really just a white shirt that Sylver had lent him along with a pair of shorts.

Walking out to the gym floor where the new students were given to stay, Gohan eyes glanced around at the large see of people, sleeping bags, and pillows.

"It's pretty wild being here huh?"

Gohan turned his head and smiled at the familiar voice. "Oh yeah, but it's also exciting. Do you already have a place to sleep set up Jaune?"

"Yeah, I saved a small spot next to me too if you want it."

"Sure, thanks. I wouldn't really know where else I'd go and actually be comfortable."

"Yeah, I know what you mean. This place is already pretty intense, huh?"

Gohan just nodded as he continued glancing around the room, his eyes briefly locking onto Ruby who was laying next to her sister, the two chatting away. Purple eyes suddenly met his for a moment before shifting next to him. Shortly after, Ruby's sister started giggling and point toward him.

The hybrid raised a brow in question, wondering just why she was laughing, only to notice she was pointing at the blonde boy next to him. His eyes glanced over to Jaune, starting at his head and looking up and down his light blue onsie. Was Yang laughing at Jaune's get up?

If she was, and Jaune had noticed, he didn't seem to care as the two of them continued walking to his sleeping spot.

Settling in his place, Gohan let out a breath as he tried to get comfortable, Jaune doing the same next to him in his own sleeping bag.

Well, guess this will be my home for the foreseeable future. So far it doesn't seem too bad… hopefully it stays that way.

"Welcome to Beacon…" Gohan heard Jaune mutter the words quietly to himself as he closed his eyes.

Staring up at the high ceiling, Gohan took a deep breath as he forced himself to relax and began to fall asleep. "Welcome to Beacon."

That's a good place to end. A bit shorter than the first chapter but feels like a natural stopping point.

Also, I've really been craving to write more and post chapters sooner but like everywhere else, this last year and all has just been too crazy and I couldn't force myself to be interested in writing or doing much else.

I will be trying to write more and update somewhat frequently, not a set schedule or anything, but just at least not going more than two months without any updates.
