Authors note: The last time we left off the trial was done. But even with that there is still a loose end to tie. Will Hans ever tell the truth? We shall see...
Any way thank you for all of the reviews. Now for your pleasure, here is a new chapter, thank you for reading and please review when done.
Slowly making their way to Anna and Kristoffs home Hans thought and mentally debated. He had to tell her the truth, but how? Every possible conversation and way he though of telling her ended up worse than the last. Looking back at her he saw her looking down, sad, he really did not want to hurt her more than she already was.
"How do I do this?" Though Hans as they arrived at the home, as soon as they stepped through the gate the door of the home flung open, Anna ran out and hugged Elsa.
The two sisters hugged one another, Elsa cried into her as Anna soothes and spoke to her.
Looking at the two Hans felt like he was intruding so he turned around and left. Was it the right thing? He was not sure, but it felt like it was needed.
It was late night when Hans arrived to the cabin where he was greeted by his friends. Aisha punched his shoulder for worrying her then hugged him, Heidi placed a hand on his head while Varian looked like he had been crying, but not of sadness, it was for relief.
Together they entered the cabin where dinner was ready, Agnaar was sitting next to the table, he seemed to be crying into his stumps. Walking over Hans placed a hand on the old mans shoulder, causing him to stop crying. Once he did Hans gently touched his arm to which Agnaar reached and began to feel Hans face with his forearms.
Realizing it was Hans and he was okay Agnaar leap up and hugged him, crying into him.
"It's okay, it's over" soothed Hans as he held the man who cried on stop saying that he was sorry over and over.
To Hans there was no need as he had already forgiven Agnaar.
Guiding him back to his seat the whole group sat down and had a family dinner. This alone made everything worth it and forever they were thankful for one another and for their friends who long since passed on yet they would never forget.
Sending a silently thank you to Joseph and Jane they proceeded to eat their meal and enjoy each other's company.
A couple of weeks later:
The cabin was alone since Varian, Heidi and Aisha went back to their homes, but Hans was okay as they had their letters and he had Agnaar so he was not alone.
With wood in his arms Hans made his way to the cabin, he always stayed close to the cabin.
"I am back" called Hans as he entered the cabin and began to stack the wood inside.
"Thank you" whispered Agnaar as he sat in front of the fireplace which Hans began to tend and throw a firewood into the fireplace.
"Did you tell her?" asked Agnaar, Hans did not respond to this,
"I supposed not..." said Agnaar then sadly asked "Do you love her?", again Hans said nothing.
"Alright, you don't have to answer, if it's a no then I don't blame you, I blame myself for destroying that love" Agnaar said sadly,
"It's not your fault, you were trying to protect her" said Hans, Agnaar shook his head no and said "I did it all for myself, not her" he sighted "I wanted my bloodline to show only the best, I saw you as a stain and I was so blind by my hatred that" he shook his head "it's too late for that is it not? But to be honest, I am sorry and I am proud of you, you are truly a better man, better than I or anybody I have ever met",
"Agnaar" whispered Hans as he began to say something but was stopped when he heard a knock at the door.
Confused Hans said "Stay there",
"Can't go anywhere" joked Agnaar as Hans walked over to the door and looked through a peephole to find it was Elsa.
"Elsa? What is she doing here?" though Hans as he asked through the door.
"What are you doing here?" Okay, that was harsh, but he did not know how else to say this.
"Havi, okay this is odd, but I was hoping we could talk" said Elsa sounding rather flustered and nervous despite trying to sound composed.
Hans pauses and looked around through the windows, once he saw there was nobody he opened the door and walked over to Elsa, closing the door behind him just in case.
It took a lot for Hans not to blush a little when he saw how pretty she looked with a regal looking blue dress and cloak.
"She always looks pretty, no, not pretty, beautiful" he though as she moved her hands, as if trying to hide something as and said "You won the trials and despite what happened I am a woman of word".
Hans raised an eyebrow as he wondered what she meant by that since the deal was that he would get Agnaar back, but his eyes raised even wider in surprised when Elsa dropped to one knee and showed him the item she had been hiding, it was a box with a wedding ring on it.
"You passed the test and in all honesty I am glad as I rather have a good person by my side rather than any prince" Elsa said as she took out the ring and held it out to Hans, for him to accept it.
Shaking his head Hans pushed the ring away and said "No, you don't have to, I wanted my father back and that's all what I wanted" then added "You deserve to be happy and marry who you want and love".
Upon saying that there was a flash of hurt and relief in Elsas eyes before saying "I see... but maybe there is something I can do to reward you, I almost took your head off back there" she laughed a little nervous and embarrassed when she said the last part.
"No, nothing more" Hans shook his head and though "Guess we are even on that",
"What about a castle? Land? Tittles? Riches?" asked Elsa even more surprised as he shook his head no.
"I see... is there nothing? Maybe I can offer you a job" offered Elsa after a bit of thinking,
"Now that I can accept, as long as it's reasonable" said Hans,
"Alright, Anna told me a lot about how great of a gardener you are, I saw what you made at her home and I am quite impressed" said Elsa then added "Was wondering if you could do the same in my garden and maybe teach a class or two about agriculture in the Westergaard academy",
"That sounds good" said Hans and it was but then though and asked "I only ask to be allowed to leave when needed and go home for my lunch break",
"Alright, stop by the castle, will have the paper and such drafted" said Elsa as she turned and left.
"Your majesty" called Hans,
"Yes?" Asked Elsa as she turned to face him, Hans hesitated before saying "Never mind".
Nodding Elsa left, as she did Hans felt his heartache. He wanted to tell her.
"I will tell her who I am... later" he decided as the time did not seem right.
That later turned to months:
Hans worked hard in the gardens, dividing it. One part being for food and the other a very beautiful ornamental one.
Due to the work and occasional invitation Hans was distracted and kept pushing it over and over. But it was hard as the work demanded his attention and also it felt nice that he was invited to join Elsa, Anna and Kristoff at parties or dinners and game nights.
It was somewhat sad to know what John who was technically a complete stranger was invited and joined everything that Hans Westergaard was not allowed.
Finishing planting some tulips Hans rubbed the sweat off of his brow before getting up and making his way back to home.
Arriving there he was surprised to find Elsa there.
Curious Hans walked over to greet her, she looked like she had been waiting for him, but why?
Later:
Hans started in surprise and shock as he stared at Elsa.
"Pardon?" It was all Hans could say as he stared at Elsa. She stood before him, dressed to the nines, ready for a party that Hans was sure that he was not invited.
"I need you to be my partner for the party" Elsa said repeating herself.
This made Hans move side to side, rub the back of his head as this woke up feelings he had buried many years ago.
"I don't know" said Hans unsure,
"Please Havi, I know it's odd considering" Elsa hesitated "What happened... but please I ask you to agree",
"But why me? I am a stranger" muttered Hans, it was a lie, but she did not know that.
"Because I trust you" said Elsa as she held out her hand "Please".
Hans looked, hesitating before extending his hand and taking it.
"Thank you, now come with me, I will have you dress for the occasion" said Elsa with that she let him go allowing him to inform Agnaar before leaving with Elsa.
That night:
The party was going, but it was hard to tell since there was barely any movement and definitely no talking.
People all looked around, all of them dressed to the nines, but tense and in fear of doing anything wrong.
Elsa looked around and wondered if this was a good idea as everybody just stood there, waiting for something, anything to happen. Next to her Hans looked around, trying to find a solution to this, how to get people to.
At that moment Hans spotted the musicians and it was as if a gas lamp lit on his head before whispering "Queen Elsa why don't you-" he whispered the rest in her ear, her eyes widen and she asked "Are you sure?",
"We can try" said Hans with a smile before leaving to speak to the musicians and as he did Elsa walked to the center of the courtyard and stomped her feet, causing the ground to cover with ice.
As that happened Hans had the musicians play a cheerful tune, walked over, took a woman's hand and dragged her into the ice where they skated and dance. Then he let go and took another and another and soon everybody was dancing and skating through the ice.
As that happened Hans gestured Elsa to join, she waved her hand no. But Anna though otherwise as she pushed Elsa into the dance where she was swept away.
"You will thank me later" said Anna as she stood by Kristoff, placing a hand on his shoulder as they looked on at the dance.
As it progressed Elsa tried to pull away, as she did she ended up slamming against John/Hans.
"Right on time" he said with a smile, then extended his hand "May I have this dance your majesty?".
Elsa could not reply, she just stared, the way he smiled, offered his hand, it was...
Panic took over and Elsa ran off, "Elsa" called Hans as he went after her, both abandoning the party.
He is not Hans, Elsa told herself as she fled, her mind was swirling with emotions. John..Havi... he was a stranger, but he reminded her so much of Hans. They look alike so much so she was sure that if Havi had red hair and green eyes he could pass of as Hans identical twin, his mannerisms, way of talking and walking, it was so much like Hans it drove Elsa insane as she constantly had to remind herself he was not Hans whenever Havi would call her name as it would make her heart race.
Slowing down her running Elsa eventually stopped when she found herself in the gardens. Looking back she sighted before rubbing her face in misery, finding and sitting on a stone bench nearby.
As she sat there she felt like a horrible person as guilt began to surface.
What was she doing? Why was she so comfortable letting this stranger get close? Letting him do the stuff she never allowed her love to do?
Hans was never allowed to join dinner, hold her hand, join them in the game nights, yet John was allowed that privilege.
A complete stranger was allowed to do the things the love of her life was not able to do. She was proving Hans right about everything he though of her.
"I am such a monster" lamented Elsa sadly "I am so sorry Hans, I wish... I wish...",
"Elsa?"
Looking up she saw John/Hans had followed her, his eyes looked at her with concern as he asked "Is there something wrong? Did I do something?"
As she looked at him her heartaches, she wanted to scream at John, yell at him to leave her alone, to go away. But she could not, she just could not find it inside of her to tell him to go away.
It hurt so bad that there was a person out there who was very much like Hans, but he was not no matter how much she wanted, she knew that John was not Hans. He will never be. No matter how much her heart aches she hated him, but she loved him.
How could she have let this happen? How could she had gotten attached to this stranger so soon? Just because he reminded her of Hans did not mean...
Was it possible that fate brought John over to her? Maybe Hans wanting her to move on? or was it fate being cruel by punishing her with having a reminder of Hans around? Being torn between two? Being shown that Hans was right about what he though of her? That she did not love him enough to stay with him and rather that she could move on and did not want him or need him?
Tears began to spill from Elsa's eyes, she was confused, hurt, her heart felt like lead yet was breaking at the same time.
"My queen, please don't cry... I am sorry if I offended you" began John as he tried to calm her down as he walked over to comfort her but much to his surprise she lunged at him and buried her head in his chest, crying as she did.
"My queen, tell me what's wrong, how can I help? Please, it hurts when you are so sad" he pleaded.
Elsa said nothing as she continued to cry and hold unto John/Hans.
He wrapped his arms around her and held her there, trying to comfort her the best way he could.
After what seemed like forever Elsa stopped, what she did next surprised John/Hans.
She kissed him... in what seemed like a matter of seconds she had managed to capture his lips unto her own, sealing then with a kiss.
For a moment Hans was taken back to the past when he and Elsa would sneak kisses every so often in secret. How he longed for those days and he was not alone in that though as Elsa though the same as kissing John reminded her of...
What was she doing?!
Breaking away Elsa back away from John/Hans, holding a hand to her chest.
"Elsa?" He asked looking at her hurt,
"I am sorry!" Said Elsa before she turned around and ran away. He was not Hans! She told herself over and over. She had to stop projecting unto him something that will never happen.
But how can she stop that?
As she ran away the idea hit her...
The trolls... they especially Paddie will be able to do something about that!
To be continued...
Authors note: Sooo close yet so far... how will this end?
