Authors note: Welcome to part 1 of the Gylden epilogue, its been so nice and I am glad I was able to share the story with all of been a blast!

Any way I hope you all enjoy this chapter...please review when done.

"Tell us the story again, Grandpa!"

"Please again?"

The old blind man smiled at his twin grandsons as they huddled by his bedside, gazing at him with expectant grins. "Come now, surely you must be tired of it. I must have told you this story over 20 times!"

"No, never!" declared the older of the twins, a strapping young boy of eight with platinum blond hair and bright blue eyes. "Besides, you've never told us the end."

"That's right!" chimed in his younger brother, a chipper, active lad with auburn hair and spring green eyes. He bounced about, barely able to contain his excitement. "What happened in the end?"

"Very well," said the grandfather with a light chuckle. "The prince and queen did end up marrying after a courtship of two years. During that time, the prince also helped his brother-in-law recover, though he never was able to walk again; however he did regain the use of his arms."

"Like Uncle Kristoff!" cheered the little redhead.

The grandfather smiled. "Yes, just like Uncle Kristoff."

"And did they live happily ever after?" asked the towheaded boy.

"Yes, with two wonderful children surrounded by people who love and cherish them," the grandfather replied, gasping when the brothers pounced on him and hugged him tightly.

The sudden movements hurt his old bones, but the thought behind the gesture made Agnarr happier than he had ever been. Even before the wedding, he feared that both his daughters would bar him from seeing his own grandchildren, or worse, that said children would be scared off by his appearance and lack of hands. Fortunately, Elsa was gracious enough to construct a cozy, little cottage at the far side of the castle gardens and Hans visited him daily. And to his great surprise, as soon as the twins were old enough, Hans brought them to visit too.

What was even more perplexing was how the two young princes were never frightened by his appearance. If anything, they were quite fascinated by his condition, and since nobody had told them the sordid story behind it. Because of this, they would come up the various theories about how their grandfather had lost his sight and hands.

Agnarr's favorite was the one the two made up about him being captured by pirates who had blinded him and cut off his hands, thinking that he would left defenseless, only for them to taste hubris when Agnarr fought them off with nothing but a blade between his teeth and soundly defeated them, ultimately saved the day.

Of course, none of that was true, even if he wished it was, but it was all for the best. He was thankful that the boys did not know the truth of what he did, the full extent of his sin, and he was even more grateful that his estranged daughters would even allow them near him.

Sighing contentedly, he leaned back, only to hear a knock. Based on its rhythm, it was Hans.

"Boys, no roughhousing around your grandfather," he scolded as he entered the room and hauled the rambunctious twins off the bed.

"Sorry Father!" they chorused.

"It's alright Son, they just wanted to bid me goodnight," Agnarr assured him.

"Still, they must be more careful," Hans replied, "You need your rest to recover."

There was another knock, and the door opened to reveal Elsa. "All is well, I hope?" she asked.

"Mama!" chirped the two princes. They wriggled out of their father's grasp and ran to embrace her. Elsa smiled and returned the gesture. Before she herded them off to their room, she glanced up at Hans, then Agnarr.

After a moment of awkward silence, she spoke. "Rest well," was all she said, and with that, she hurried after her sons to put them to bed.

"Is she angry that I am here?" Agnarr asked once he and Hans were alone.

"No... She understands you need care," Hans replied. It wasn't exactly true, as Elsa was less than pleased with the decision to let Agnarr back into the castle complex, but she had promised Hans, and she was a woman of her word. Any interactions she had with the man that used to be her father had been curt but cordial, and she kept her distance.

"She hates me…" Agnarr murmured resignedly.

"No, she does not and she has forgiven you. She's just wary," Hans assured him, and this was the truth. Both he and Elsa had thoroughly discussed the matter of Agnarr's presence several times, despite her misgivings of the older man, she was willing to tolerate him for Hans's sake. In fact, when Agnarr fell ill, she stamped down her reservations and set up a room for him in the castle, even directing the castle's medical staff to his care, much to the surprise and gratitude of both father and son.

The former king heaved a sad sigh. "I don't blame her. I've wronged her so much."

"We all make mistakes. What matters is that you're able to learn from them," Hans told him, smiling softly. He leaned over and adjusted Agnarr's pillows and blanket. "I always wondered," he added after a short pause, how did you know?"

"Know what?"

"That it was me" continued Hans, with a small smile Agnaar said "I knew because without my eyes... I saw more clearly than ever before".

Knowing he was not going to get straight answer Hans just accepted it as a fact.

"Do you forgive me?" asked Agnaar after a bit.

"I have, since the day I learned of your true identity" Hans told him, "Is it really that hard to believe?"

"No, I believe you," Agnarr replied. "However, hearing it from you does put me at ease. After all my trespasses against you, part of me feared that I would never be forgiven."

"Rest easy, for evil days have passed," Hans assured him. "Now all that's left is for you to forgive yourself as everyone has forgiven you." He then very gently tucked the old man in and snuffed the candle by his bedside.

"Have a good night," he said, to which Agnarr nodded.

'Odd… It's not like him to go to bed without a word, ' Hans said to himself as he made his way back to the castle. 'Then again, he must be more tired than usual. Maybe he'll feel better in the morning.'

Sitting down in bed Elsa read a book when the door opened, looking up she smiled a little when Hans walked in, running his hands through his hair he shrugged off his coat and said "Kids are asleep", hanging the coat on a chair he proceeded to strip to change into a night shirt.

"Finally, I love our children but sometimes it feels like wrangling a pair of hyperactive wolf cubs" said Elsa then playfully sighs "Makes me feel old",

"Your not old" said Hans softly as he got into bed with her,

"We are not young either" said Elsa as she closed the book and set it aside before moving closer to Hans, kissing her Hans pressed his forehead against her.

"Hans?",

"Hum?",

"Do you regret marrying me?" asked Elsa softly as she looked up at him, her eyes looking at his,

"No, I love you, why do you say that?" said Hans shocked even a bit angry, not at Elsa but at whoever got that in her head.

"I love you too, but I fear that you just settled for me and nothing I do will be enough to be worthy of you" answered Elsa, her eyes growing misty as she wondered why he gave her a chance even more why he married her when he could have gone off and found somebody better as before they were married he had no shortage of fine eligible ladies for him to choose from. Many who were prettier, younger, more like the conventional victorian lady.

His warm hand pressing against her cheek broke Elsa's train of though, "You have nothing to fear, I love you Elsa, you gave me a home, family, children and love" he kissed her and finished "That's all I ever want and need",

"Havi" Elsa said softly as she wrapped her arms around his body, scared that if she did not he would disappear and never come back. She felt so lucky, why did she get the love of her life back she did not know, but what she did know is that every day she counted her blessings and was thankful to what she had, her kids, her husband and family are her greatest treasures and she will make sure they know that every day.

Later on that night:

Agnaar rested his head on the pillow, sleeping softly, it was only when he heard the door open that he woke up. After listening carefully he nodded and said "Sister norms, has my time come?". Darkness gathered in the room, concentrating on the floor before it rose and took shape of a man with dark robes.

"The sisters sent me, it is time" the man spoke, his voice sounded old yet wise.

"I see..." said Agnaar then paused before asking "Can I have ask for one thing before I go?", this did not surprise the man as it was not something that never happened so he said "Depends, what is this request?",

"If it's possible, I would like to see my family, one more time before I go" requested Agnaar "if not then I understand"

There was silence before the man said "That request I will grant sir" before taking out an object from his robe. It was a scythe, waiving it over Agnaar a light appeared on his chest, a single string of color gold.

With a swift move the man cut it and soon Agnaar gasped before sitting up. To his surprise he could see again, even more when he looked down he saw he possessed his hands again, getting up from bed he was surprised to find himself young again, as he had been many years ago.

"Come now, time is short" said the man as he gestured to the door.

Nodding Agnaar walked out the door with the man following. At first he looked around the dark halls, closing his eyes he allowed his sense guide him.

The first room he went was his grandchildren's room. Opening it for a moment Agnaar was taken back to Elsa and Anna's childhood as the room was very much like how their room was before.

Walking over to the two sleeping princes Agnaar chuckled, they looked so much like their mother and father, just as he had imagined.

Running his hands though their hair he gave them both a kiss on the forehead before leaving.

Going down the hall he stopped, then turned, changing directions before running down an opposite hallway which confused the man who for a moment feared Agnaar would try to run away. But was confused when he saw Agnaar come back with a box, it was old and dusty.

The man looked puzzled at Agnaar who said as he gestured to the box "I am sorry for that... I just wanted to give this back... I never got the chance to before".

Understanding the man nodded and together they went to Anna and Kristoffs room, at first Agnaar worried they had left but much to his relief they were there as it seems they decided to stay overnight.

Looking at the two Agnaar felt a pang of sadness and pride. Sadness as he saw the damage he had done and all that they had to endure due to it. Pride as this before him showed just how much they loved one another as they worked pass events and became stronger due to it.

Walking over he kissed them both on the forehead, to Anna he whispered his sorry and how proud he was of her, to Kristoff he whispered that he was a noble and strong man, that he wished them both happiness.

Leaving the room the man and Agnaar made their way to Elsa and Hans room. Arriving there Agnaar looked and was glad that he had indeed lost his sight in the beginning, because of his new hair and such he would have never guessed that John and Hans were one and the same.

Placing box in the desk in the room Agnaar opened it and looked inside to find it was full of medals. With a sad sight he stroked them before taking one of them. He made his way over to Hans and Elsa.

He wished he had been able to make this one last thing right, sadly this would have to do even if it was not a do over medal ceremony, before placing the old, rusted medal in Hans hand, closing it gently.

To Elsa he kissed her forehead and whispered "I am sorry Elsa, I should have trusted you from the very beginning, you are truly the ruler I was never able to be", then turning to Hans he whispered to him "There are a lot of wrongs I did, wrongs I fear that I was not able to make right, but I will let you know that I was wrong, very wrong about you, you are the man I wish I was and now I free you of my burden, live your life, take care of Elsa and allow her to care for you, you two need one another in your lives"

With that Agnaar backed away, watching the sleeping couple.

"Come now, it's time" said the man, Agnaar nodded and left with the man. As they left the man added "She is waiting for you",

"Who?" asked Agnaar surprised as he though nobody would be waiting for him due to his horrible actions.

"Iduna, she has been waiting for so long" said the man shocking Agnaar,

"She is waiting for me? But I... I though... I mean I" he sputtered,

"Yes she is and it would be rude to keep her waiting" said the man with a light chuckle before they disappeared into the night. Never to be seen again.

The next day:

"Catch us!" There we're screams, howls and footsteps as the two princes and two wolf pups ran through the halls, behind them in close pursuit was Kristoff who pushed himself in his wheelchair as fast as he could.

"I am going to get you" he said playfully,

"Never!" called the kids as they ran away with the wolves close behind.

This commotion woke Hans and Elsa up, both where half asleep before Elsa went back to bed and mumbled "Get them before they break something",

"Why me? I am the fun father" teased Hans to her,

"Your just a pain in my behind" mumbled Elsa playfully as she buried herself in her bed.

Hans chuckled to himself about that before he frowned when he felt something, looking at his hand he opened it to find a medal.

"Hu... Elsa..." he said,

"Hum?" asked Elsa as she looked over sleepily, Hans showed her the medal which Elsa looked at it confused as she asked "Where did that came from?",

"Was hoping you would tell me" said Hans as he looked over the medal.

It was old, rusted, the ribbons color had long since faded away, which was sad as usually medals can last if they are cared for.

Even so Hans has not seen this one before, it was familiar though but he could not place it. Getting up he walked over to the desk to set it down and have it looked at later when he noticed an open box, one that had definitely not been there before.

Looking inside he found more of the same medals he had along with other different ones. Hans turned and looked at Elsa wondering if she was playing a joke or something. But she looked at equally puzzled as he was. So there was no way she was involved in this.

Placing the medal inside he though that maybe Anna or Kristoff knew about this. But just before he could voice this there was a loud crash in the hall.

"Oh god what did they broke?" asked Elsa both mortified and worried as Hans quickly put in a robe and went outside to investigate.

Walking down the hall he soon found the "crash site" luckily it seemed that nothing was broken, but Kristoff had crashed into Fenrir sending them both down and seems the sound they heard was the wheelchair crashing.

"God! Are you alright?" asked Hans as he helped Kristoff up and unto a chair in the hall.

"I am fine I am fine! Just crashed" said Kristoff,

"Unto me" said the lord wolf bitterly as he was not pleased with being used as a pillow. The wolf, his pups and his sibling horse was staying with them for a month or so, mostly due to the foul weather, it was too cold and bitter.

"Sorry, we were just playing" said one of the boys while the wolf pups hid behind them, tail in between their legs.

"Ross, Thomas, pups, I know you four want to play, but you must be gentle around Kristoff" scolded Hans,

"No, it's fine really, it's good exercise" said Kristoff as he flexed his arms,

"Regardless we don't want you breaking anything else or worse" explained Hans,

"Stop being a worry wart, I was paralyzed from the neck down for years, let me have this taste of freedom" complained Kristoff as he hated being treated like a delicate cripple.

Hans sighted at that then turned to the kids and said "Will you please check on your grandfather while I talk to Kristoff".

The kids nodded and left with the pups, as they did Hans added "Gently please". He heard the kids answer, what they said he was not sure but he knew they heard.

Once gone Anna and Elsa walked in, both wearing their robes as they asked "What was broken?",

"My wheelchair and dignity" joked Kristoff, Anna shook her head at her husband while smiling a bit before saying "Again?",

"Not my fault the thing has no breaks" said Kristoff,

"Either way, Varian sent a letter, he thinks we can try again to see if your leg mobility can be restored" said Hans,

"Not sure about that, I know and I am greatful that you two were able to restore my arm and hand movements using the philosopher stone, but I think me walking is not meant to be" said Kristoff,

"We won't know unless we try" said Hans,

"It's fine, I have made my peace with this and I think I am better off this way than keep hoping in something that will not happen" explained Kristoff.

Hans looked at him, then at Elsa and Anna. Elsa said nothing as she did not need to, she supported whatever was decided, Anna nodded, if this was what her husband wanted, then she would support his decision.

"Alright, I will tell Varian" said Hans then added "Oh and Heidi and Aisha will be visiting next month",

"Better warn Ulrik" snickered Elsa,

"Is he still scared of Aisha?" asked Hans chuckling a bit,

"He is not scared" said Anna then added laughing "He is traumatized, mentioning Aishas name sends him running every time",

"Poor guy" said Kristoff even if he did not mean it, he though the guy deserved what he got.

There was a chuckle before Hans cleated his throat and gestured to the box he brought "Is this yours?".

Kristoff looked confused and puzzled as he took the box "No... I have not" he said as he opened the box and looked inside. It was when his eyes widen.

"Where did you get these?" He asked shocked,

"It was in top of the desk in my and Elsas room" explained Hans,

"It was just there, how or who put it there we have no idea" added Elsa.

Looking over them Kristoff took out the rusted one along with the others like it. Holding them he sighted and said "I know we promised not to bring the past up, but I have to in order to tell you about these".

The group fell silent allowing Kristoff to speak "These medals were the one that Agnaar gave in that ceremony... after the party me and the soldiers gave the medals back",

"Why?" asked Hans baffled,

"It was you who saved me and you who led us to victory, it did not feel right to accept such an honor, if you could not get it then we would not accept it" said Kristoff then gestured you the other ones which were different ones "If this is in this box I am willing to guess that these others ones were the ones that Agnaar confiscated from you" with that he gave the box back to Hans.

As he did Hans looked at them again, this time recognizing the others, but that mattered little as he was more surprised with the revelation.

"Hans I meant it when I said that we were on your side, all of us" said Anna "Even the princes all those years ago",

"The princes?",

"Yes, after that meeting they not only left but seems they realized what Agnaar was trying to do and threatened him" explained Anna "They swore that if he tried anything on you they would make sure that he would pay",

"They did, though the reason that there was no war was because I took over" said Elsa,

"What happened to them?" asked Hans curious,

"I kinda lost contact with them for a while, the last I heard all of them married to the love of their lives" said Elsa.

"Oh, maybe we can invite them over sometime" said Hans "Maybe they have kids about now",

"Yes I am sure they would-".

Elsa stopped when she saw her sons slowly making their way through the hall, tip toing as quiet and possible, even the wolf pups were, which was kinda comical.

Sensing something Elsa asked "What did you four do?", to which surprisingly they shushed Elsa and said "Grandpa is sleeping".

This made the group raise an eyebrow, Agnaar was a light sleeping and an early riser so this was unusual.

"Grandpa is sleeping?" asked Hans wondering if he heard correctly.

They nodded before Ross said "Yes, we tried to wake him up, but he won't so we think he is tired and wants to sleep more".

As soon as those words were spoken Hans felt a pit form in his stomach. At first he wanted to ignore it till he noticed the look on Elsa, Anna, Kristoff and even Fenrirs face.

They though the same too...

A loud thud sounded, Hans hand shook so much he dropped the box. Slowly he made his way over to Agnaars room, as he did the wolf herded the kids away, towards the living room to play.

Meanwhile Hans slowly forced himself to walk, it was slow, but he moved regardless. Arriving to the room he found Agnaar in bed... sleeping?...

He begged and mentally pleaded as he knocked on the door. Hoping that would wake him up, but it did not. He deluded himself as he walked over and placed a hand on the old mans shoulder.

A shiver went down Hans spine, his body was cold. Beraly holding back tears Hans shook Agnaar.

"Father... is time to get up" his voice cracked with grief as he did, Agnaar did not move, did not speak.

"Father... please" pleaded Hans, eyes tearing up. There was no response and the truth sunk in like a ship... he was dead...

"Please, no no" cried Hans as he picked him up and held him, crying in grief. Meanwhile Anna reacted to his cries by going to find the doctor in servants while Elsa stood in shock.

He was dead... Agnaar is dead...

Weeks later:

The body was prepared for a funeral, it was a simple one and people from all around showed up in support for the couple, specifically the consort prince who was distraught.

Hans spent a day in denial, but as the truth sunk in he cried and mourned. Through that time Elsa was there to comfort him, though deep down she was surprised, she was sad for his passing, but the way Hans mourned Agnaars death was as if he was his own father instead of...

She decided not to think about that.

After some time Hans was able to move pass his grief and began to prepare the funeral. As the invites left and came back preparations were made and though Elsa and Anna were not happy to have Agnaar buried next to their mother, they knew it was what Hans would have wanted, even their own mother would have wanted it as despite all Agnaar did she still loved the man and would have wanted him on her side once more.

The day of the funeral was rainy and muddy, almost as if reflecting what Hans was feeling inside as he stood by and talked to the guest. Not feeling up to it, but forced himself to as it would be rude.

His dark suit was for the moment, the only color was the medal he wore. The same one Agnaar had once worn which was now passed unto him by Agnaars request as he wanted him to have it. So Hans wore it in a way to both honor and keep the man who had become a sort of father figure close to him.

He heard somebody call him, turning he saw Varian with his daughter Calluna, Aisha with her niece and Heidi.

Walking over Hans was not able to hold back and hugged the group, he did not care or feel like following protocols.

"We are sorry for the passing" said Varian as he empathized with him the most as he had lost his father and most recently lost his wife in childbirth.

"Thank you for being here" said Hans trying to compose himself,

"Always there for you" said Aisha "But be strong, he is in a better place now",

"I know... but still hurts loosing him" said Hans sadly as they pull away,

"It always hurts when somebody leaves" said Heidi "don't worry, we will all meet again in the end".

Hans nodded, they talked a bit more as Calluna and Aishas niece went off to play with his sons.

Soon the bell tolled and it was time for the service.

The service was quick and Agnaars body was taken away, buried next to Idunas. Together at last.

Rain began to pour as everybody went their own ways. Hans stayed behind just for bit, wanting to say his good bye.

What he said nobody knows and nobody not even Elsa asked him what was said and maybe it was better that way.

A river was heard making gentle ripple noises, the forest was beautiful and the light was up. How Agnaar got there he was not sure or cared as he walked along pass the trees and bushes.

He did not know where he was going, but it seems his body knew as he soon arrived to the meadow where a girl was sitting there. His eyes narrowed at her as she looked familiar.

Noticing him she smiled, got up, dusting her skirt before approaching him,

"Hello Agnaar" she said with a smile,

"Hello, um?" greeted Agnaar unsure,

"Jane" she said with a bright smile,

"Jane? Strange, Hans had a Jane" said Agnaar puzzled,

"Yes and I am happy he was able to find happiness, just as he promised to me" said Jane making Agnaar stare in shock at the realization that this andthat other Jane were one and the same.

Taking his hand Jane said "Come, I will take you to Iduna", she tugged him along, following a river, then stopped and pointed before leaving. Agnaar looked and his eyes widen at the woman who was at the rivers side.

She wore a purple dress, her brown hair was done in an elaborate bun, most of all... she was no stranger to him.

Slowly walking over to her Agnaar hesitated, fearing that she would cast him out for being so cruel.

"Iduna?" He asked, his voice sounding much like a child's.

Turning she looked at him, her beautiful eyes focused on him as she got up. Immediately Agnaar ran over and collapsed to the ground, holding unto her skirts, crying and forming words that could not be comprehended.

And it seems there was no need as Iduna went down to his level and held him close to her as she whispered "I am glad to have you back".

To be continued...
