Tuff woke up the next morning with the best idea ever. He grabbed Macey and George and headed to the markets. Soon he found what he was looking for. You see, Tuff completely agreed with Astrid when she said that it was chilly in the caves and that it needed some blankets and pillows. But since they were spending so much time there, he decided that a few mere blankets and pillows wouldn't cut it.
When he finished at the markets, he went home and got a bag, because there was no way he would be able to carry it all down to the caves if he didn't have one. He also got the spare torches, Ruff's old stuffed animals and some of his books. He stuffed them into the bag and then set out for the caves.
When he got there, he unpacked his bag and got to work. He found some more drift wood on the beach and brought it in. He stuck some to the wall and and put the books on it. Then Tuff decided it was way to dark and lit the torches. He placed them all around the cave, so that it was bright enough not to bother Astrid, but dark enough not to bother Garf the second and his friends.
He put the cushion on the chair, and the pillows on the hammock. He also brought some fabric, he didn't know why, but he used it to cover the table. Tuff had some leftover pillows and blankets when he was done with the hammock, so he arranged them in a pile on the floor. It was quite comfortable.
Tuff hung some decorations on the walls, (torches, weapons, weavings, that kind of thing.)
As you may or may not know, Tuff has a knack for interior design. He is very good at making the inside of things look better.
Soon the cave looked awesome. The glow worm castle was on one wall, and the other walls had torches, weapons and the odd weaving. (Not too many torches though, Garf the second and his friends prefer the dark) There was another chair, and both chairs had cushions. The pile of blankets and pillows was beside a torch, in case Astrid wanted to read. The shelves he put up had books and the old stuffed animals on them.
Tuff couldn't wait till Astrid got back and saw it.
Soon Tuff grew bored so he left the caves and went to go find Ruff. He looked all over town, he even checked with Fishlegs, although he said he hadn't seen her, he also looked pretty miffed to be honest.
I wonder what that was about? He thought to himself.
He decided to go check the caves on the far side of the island, where they used to play when they were kids.
Since he couldn't ride Barf and Belch alone, he had to walk. He considered turning back several times, but he did end up getting there. Eventually.
He wandered around a bit, until he heard something. He followed the sound and came upon a figure, hunched over and sobs wracking their body. He cautiously stepped forward and saw that it was Ruff. Wait, Ruff?!? Ruffnut Thorston didn't cry about anything!
Tuff stepped closer and sat down by Ruff. He wasn't really very good at comforting people, just because he had managed to do it a few times with Astrid didn't make him good at it.
Ruff looked up at him and he saw that her eyes were red and her face was splotchy.
"What happened?" He questioned.
"It's that stupid Fishlegs! He can't do anything right! We were going to go on a picnic but right when we were gonna go find the perfect spot, he says that he doesn't want to do this anymore. I thought he meant the picnic, so I said we could do something else, but then he goes No, I can't do us anymore. And I'm like Fine! And then we yelled at each other for a bit and then I came here."
Wow, Tuff thought. I hope this never happens to me and Astrid.
Tuff tries his best to comfort Ruff and he eventually got her to calm down.
"Do you have any idea why he said he didn't want to do, uh, the whole relationship thing?" Tuff asked.
Ruff sniffed. "Well, it might be because I hid all of his books in the stables."
Tuff chuckled. "What!? He couldn't be mad about that, I mean, that's a classic!"
"I know, right?" Ruff exclaimed. "Or maybe it's because I 'rearranged' his desk a bit. Or maybe-" Tuff cut her off.
"Maybe he's tired of you messing with his things," Tuff said.
Ruff thought on it for a minute, then he's eyes widened.
"Maybe you're right!" She said. "I gotta make it up to him!" She had a determined expression on her face as she rushed out of the caves, yelling a "Thanks bro!" Over her shoulder.
