Tuff rushed down an ally, then another. Soon he had no idea where he was, but he didn't care. Tuff felt something wet on his face, he slowed and wiped it away with his sleeve. He came to a stop, breathing hard, and leaned against the wall of the ally.
Tuff heard footsteps, then saw a figure come into the ally. It was Astrid, the last person that Tuff wanted to see. Well, second last, Hiccup was the last person on Tuffs to see list as of late.
"Tuff, I-" he cut her off.
"No offence Astrid, but I really don't want to see you right now."
Astrid looked distraught and it made Tuffs gut twist to see her like that, but he tamped down the feeling, determined to stay mad.
He turned so that he didn't have to see her face anymore, because if he did then he might not be mad at her anymore.
"Please listen to me Tuff, just hear me out."
Astrid sounded close to tears and in all the time Tuff had known her, he had only seen her cry once, and that was when she thought Stormfly was dying, so Tuff turned.
"Ok," he said. "I'll hear you out."
Astrid gave him a grateful look and then told him what happened.
"I had all the stuff we needed to build the scare ships, when Hiccup came walking up to me. The stinger venom had mostly worn off, but he was wobbly and almost fell so I went over to help steady him and he just came out of no where, saying that he wanted to get back together."
Tuff widened his eyes and looked at her in disbelief.
"Then Hiccup kissed me." She said, looking away from him, like she was embarrassed to meet his gaze.
It was so unlike Astrid to act this way, to act submissive and vulnerable, the fact that she was acting like this because of a guy?!? That alone was enough for Tuff to want to go commit a murder, but that mixed with the fact that Hiccup had kissed her?!? Someone was gonna die.
Tuff walked forward and touched Astrids arm with surprising gentleness.
She looked up at him and Tuff asked her a question.
"He just kissed you. You didn't kiss him, he just came out of no where and kissed you? Without your consent?"
Astrid nodded and Tuff felt a rage that was totally new to him. He felt so mad, that he could fight Thor and win if he got in Tuffs way.
"Alright, someone's gonna die," he said, starting to March back to where Hiccup was.
Astrid stepped in front of him. "What are you doing?!" She demanded, all previous weakness gone.
"I'm going to go murder Hiccup." Tuff said like it was the most obvious thing in the world.
"What!? No! You can't!" Astrid said, a momentary look of panic in her eyes.
Tuff scowled. "Why not? He forced a kiss on you, and he wants to date you! Again! I saw how sad and depressed looking you were for weeks after you two had broken up. I know you just wanted everyone to think that you had separated on good terms and as friends, but that's not the case, is it?"
He looked at Astrid and slowly she shook her head.
"And now this doofus, the guy who broke your heart in the first place wants to date you again?!? I for one am not going to let that happen, no sir I'm not."
Astrid smiled despite herself, then spoke.
"Listen Tuff, I want to go over there and kick him in the balls just as much as you do, but we have to be logical about this. If you just go beat him up, 1, it won't be fair cause he still can't move that well, and 2, if you do his father is the chief. There is a very good chance that you'll be kicked off the island. That means I won't be betrothed to you anymore and Hiccup will probably end up being my new husband to be." She shuddered as she said the last part, which gave Tuff a slim amount of satisfaction.
"So... what are we gonna do?" He questioned.
Astrid smiled one of her 'I have a really awesome plan that has total disregard for others safety' smiles and told Tuff her plan.
Tuff and Astrid gathered up their things that they had dropped and Tuff carried it to their cave while Astrid sprinted home and grabbed her Changewing skin cloak and a book.
Then she whistles for her dragon, who, for once actually came when she was called, and they flew down to the beach where Tuff was waiting with the supplies.
When she landed Tuff said "Ok Astrid, I think I remember the plan, but you should go over it again, just in case I wasn't listening."
A few months ago, Astrid would have rolled her eyes and punched Tuff in the shoulder and found him annoying. Now, she still rolled her eyes, got off Stormfly and punched him in the shoulder, but found him to be cute and endearing instead of plain annoying.
"Since Hiccup kissed me, and me being betrothed, you, the person I'm betrothed too, have every right to challenge Hiccup to a duel, winner gets the girl. Now, these rules are pretty old and extremely sexist, how men own the girl and get to decide her fate and which one she marries, but the rules of the duel are still valid. You have all rights to challenge Hiccup."
Tuff nodded, then narrowed his eyes.
"But if I challenge Hiccup, I'm going to loose. Everyone knows how great a sword fighter he is."
Astrid nodded. "Yep. You would total loose to Hiccup, if you were playing by the rules. But, lucky for you, you are not." Astrid grinned and brought out the cloak.
"Am I allowed to use that in a duel?" Tuff questioned.
"I checked the rule book, and it doesn't say anywhere that cheating isn't allowed. On this page it actually says that cheating is encouraged."
She flipped through the book until she came to the right page, then she showed it to Tuff. The page said "And remember. You are Vikings, so Cheating is trying."
Tuff nodded. "Sounds awesome." He said.
Astrid put her book and cloak down and went over to the pile of materials. She started talking about strategy and what type of weapons he could use, and what Hiccups weaknesses are.
Soon the scare ship was built and they also had a battle plan.
Tuff and Astrid hauled the scare ship into the mouth of the cave and then mounted Stormfly and flew to the village, where they went straight up to Stoic and Gobber.
"Hello you two," Gobber said as they landed.
"Hi Gobber," Astrid said, and Tuff walked up to Stioc.
"Hey, uh, Chief?" He said. Stoic turned and smiled.
"Good to see that you two are getting along. Now, have you seen Hiccup?" He asked.
"Uh, that's the problem," Tuff said. "We have."
Stoic gave him a confused look, so Tuff told Stoic what happened.
"So, I want to challenge Hiccup to a duel." Tuff finished.
Stoic looked shocked, then he turned to Gobber and muttered something to him.
"Well," Gobber said. "The boy is well within his rights to challenge Hiccup."
Stoic looked a angry for a second, then sighed and gave in.
"Alright. I'll tell Hiccup when he gets home tonight. And since you are the one who challenged him, you get to decide the date and weapons." He told Tuffnut.
"Tomorrow at 1:20, and maces." Tuff said firmly. Stoic looked kinda confused, then he and Gobber shrugged and said that it was done. They started walking away, talking about how they were going to spread the news.
