Captain Gallus of the Canterlot Royal Guards makes the same usual routine: wake up at half-an-hour before dawn and wash up; don his armor and inspect the morning shift guards; after that he sorts out any mail and small paperwork left on his desk; and finally, from then till noon, patrol the Canterlot Castle. This morning was no different; Gallus had gotten up, brushed his teeth, did the inspection, and descended into the guards' mess hall for a quick breakfast. He decided to take whatever letters he received from the desk with him as it was only minor, and perhaps personal, mail. He sipped some steaming coffee as he sifted through bills, reports, and the Stonewards daily newspaper that he subscribed to. But, just as he put away the paper, he noticed a light blue letter folded nicely underneath, stamped with…seashells? Hmm…looks like somepony has written to him…

Excitement welling inside, he sliced the flap off and opened the letter:

"Dear Gallus, or Captain Gallus I should say,

I'm writing to you because you're so sweet…I really miss you, even as I write from my room in Seaquestria. I'm spending time with my relatives down under…get it? Ha! I'm so lame at jokes!

Anyway, how has life been? Being a captain of the royal guard must be hard work; make sure you boss them around so that they don't tell you what to do. You're a captain after all! Also, next time you visit (which I should expect to be soon), I better see some muscles. I need a big, strong, manly griffon to protect me and chase off any other pony who dares disturb me.

Anyway, I'm keeping this letter short so I don't tak your precious time.

Love, Silverstream, a.k.a Silvie (you better start calling me by that!)"

He smiled, then frowned, then giggled. He really had an interesting marefriend, and he considered himself fortunate to have such a one. But, not now, as he gulped the rest of his coffee and got off to duties. But Silverstream wouldn't leave his mind…not in the very least. Gallus began to worry that it might last the whole day.
