Needless to say, I was on edge for the rest of the weekend and it wasn't any better when Monday came along.
There was definitely something off throughout the day. It felt like someone was watching the school, or maybe I was just being overly paranoid after what Charlie had said.
During lunch, I listened to Jessica go on and on about the upcoming dance as she kept glancing over at Mike. I'm sure she was hoping he'd ask him. She even asked Angela and I to come dress shopping with her next week. I agreed, even though I wasn't planning on going.
Mike and Angela walked to Bio with me, and for once, Edward was already in his seat. Mr. Banner was barely able to start class when the intercom started buzzing.
"Students of Forks High," an unfamiliar male voice blasted into the classroom. I could immediately hear the other kids start whispering to each other, wondering what was going on.
"We know that your town has recently been graced by the presence of a couple of so-called 'superheros.' We think that there's a good chance that they're students here," a female voice adds.
Everyone seems confused now as they start looking around, asking each other if they knew what was happening. This couldn't be good. I needed to do something. But what?
"And even if they're not," the male voice continued. "I'm sure they'll be here once they hear that the school will blow up in about ten minutes. We'll be waiting in the gym with the bomb."
My eyes widened at what he was saying as chaos erupted in the school. All of a sudden people were screaming and crying as they all got up, wondering what was going on. Nobody knew what to do, some people frozen in shock while others started running.
I was so caught up in what was said that I barely noticed Edward getting up from next to me, rushing out the door, along with a bunch of other students.
I had to stop this. I jumped up, sprinting out of the classroom and down the hall to the gym, fighting against the sea of students as the hallways started to crowd. Luckily, the school was small enough that it only took me a minute to reach the gym, which was completely empty.
I rushed in, looking around to see if I could find the bomb anywhere. I went to check behind the bleachers and ran right into someone. Thinking it was one of the people from the intercom, I immediately raised my fist to throw a punch but the person caught it.
Looking up, I saw it was Knight.
"Dark Knight?" I was surprised he was here.
"Bella? What are you doing here?" He asked.
How did he know my name? Before I could ask him, a voice distracted both of us.
"I know you're in here! Come out, come out, wherever you are!" The male voice yelled. I could tell they were getting closer to the gym.
Knight looked panicked as he looked at me.
"Bella, you need to get out of here. Now!" I grabbed my arm, pulling me along behind the bleachers towards the back door.
"No!" I protested, pulling against his grip. He ignored me, continuing to pull me to the door.
I knew there wasn't much time before the two from the intercom came busting through the gym door and we had to find and destroy the bomb before it destroyed the school.
So I didn't have any other choice but to push my bracelet and transform right then and there.
Knight was so focused on trying to get me out that he didn't notice I had transformed until I pulled back to face me.
"Knight!"
His eyes widened in shock as he blinked, trying to confirm I had actually changed right in front of him.
"B-Bella, uh Beauty?" He stammered. "W-what...how...you…"
"Later," I promised him.
"Oh, good, you came. I thought we were going to have to blow up the school for nothing," a woman with bright red hair came into the gym, a blonde man following in after her, carrying a bomb in his hand. I'd seen one of those before. It might look small, but it could easily wipe out the entire school campus.
They looked oddly familiar but I couldn't quite place them.
Knight, despite the fact he was obviously still caught off guard by my transformation, immediately straightened into a fighting stance.
"Look, we're here," Knight spoke up. "Just give us the bomb and you can do whatever you want."
"Do we look stupid?" The man tossed the bomb into the air, catching it in his palm. I fought the instinct to move towards him and snatch the bomb out of his hand. I didn't know what would set it off.
"Of course not," I told him. We would have to be very careful about how we approached them. Neither of us knew what kind of powers they had or if either of us would be fast enough to catch them off guard.
I took a step closer to Knight so we stood back to back as the two started circling us.
"You know, we were really just passing through Forks. Small town, not much going on," the woman explained.
"But then we heard of the duo that was going around stopping fires and catching muggers. We thought 'hey, how much of a threat can they be?' But of course, the last duo we thought that way about completely foiled our plans to steal government intel in Phoenix. Not before we got rid of one of them, of course. The other got away."
"No," I was barely able to get out.
Now I understood why they looked so familiar. Their picture had been released on a watch list after the attack that took Renee from us. I felt the air leave my lungs as I realized that Charlie wasn't supposed to make it out either.
"So you see, we couldn't just leave you two on your 'save the world' mission. It would throw too many wrenches into our plans," the man finished.
I knew we didn't have much time left until they decided to detonate the bomb.
"On three," I whispered to Knight. I got a subtle head nod to indicate he heard me.
I tapped on his arm once, twice, and on the third time, I launched at the man while Knight sped towards the woman.
I kept my eye on the bomb as I sucker punched him in the face. It knocked him back a couple of steps but he quickly recovered, kicking my midsection, knocking me off of my feet.
I flew above him, staring him down when suddenly, I felt a warm sensation in my eyes and a laser shot out of them. It burned the edges of his hair as he looked at me, slightly scared. I quickly recovered from my shock and I continued to use my new heat vision to try to take him down.
The man looked around realizing I was closing in on him. He then gave me half a smile before pressing the detonator button on the bomb and chucking it across the gym. I saw the timer count down from a minute.
He sped off out of the gym and I looked back and forth trying to decide between going after him or the bomb.
I looked over at Knight just as the woman followed him out for the gym.
"I'll follow them!" He called out to me as he followed them.
I picked up the bomb, still counting down with fifty seconds left. I flew out the gym door, looking around to see what to do with the bomb.
There were too many people in the parking lot and school and I only had about thirty seconds left before the bomb would go off.
I could only hope I would be invincible enough to withstand the blast as I flew as high up as I could with the bomb before it would go off. I flew higher and higher up through clouds.
Five...four...three...two...one.
I pushed myself to fly faster than I had ever had before in those last couple of seconds and braced myself for the blast.
As the timer hit zero, I was blinded by a bright flash and a huge force pushing me outwards. I felt my body go limp as I fell faster and faster to the ground. The explosion had pushed me far enough outwards that I saw the large trees pass around me as I approached the ground, landing in the woods.
Right before I made impact with the solid dirt, I heard someone screaming my name before everything went dark.
