I woke up the next morning to Charlie coming to check on me on his way to work.

"Morning Bells. I'm sorry I couldn't be there for you last night," he apologized. "How are you feeling?"

I stretched, wincing at the slight pain in my wrist but otherwise feeling great.

"You should stay home today," Charlie suggested.

"No, I'm fine," I assured him.

"Well, I can give you a ride-"

"Dad, I can drive. It's just a small sprain...I think."

"I don't know…"

"I'll be fine. And you'll be late," I pointed to the clock on my nightstand.

Charlie sighed. "Alright. We'll talk more later," he said, leaving me alone to get ready for school.

I threw on jeans and a t-shirt. Even though it was fairly cold today, I didn't have any clothes that would fit over the brace. I needed to go shopping sometime soon for some warmer clothes.

With my bum wrist, it took a little longer to get to school but I managed.

I struggled trying to get out of the truck with my bag and my books. When I stepped out, my foot slipped, and I dropped my books, catching myself with both hands on the cab of the door.

"Holy crow!" I gritted my teeth from the pain.

"Bella!" I heard Edward rushing over to me.

"Edward?" I was surprised to see him here, not to mention without his signature cold look.

He helped me stabilize myself, grabbing my waist. I was surprised by how his touch made me feel like my body was on fire.

"Are you okay?" His green eyes intense as they looked at me in concern.

I nodded, assuring him that I was. Once he was satisfied that I really was, he bent down to pick up my books.

I reached out to grab them from him, but he pulled them high up out of my reach.

"Hey! Give them back," I jumped up trying to reach them though I was failing miserably.

"Not a chance," Edward smiled at me, his eyes sparkling. "What happened to your wrist?"

"I , uh, fell. Up...the stairs," I lied, probably unconvincingly I might add. I cringe. Up the stairs? What the heck Bella?

"Uh huh," Edward looked like he didn't believe me.

"I did," I insisted, reaching for my books again, but I tripped again, falling into Edward.

"Maybe you should just...stop walking," Edward joked.

I scowled at him, which only earned me a laugh.

It didn't seem like he was going to be giving me my books back anytime soon so I closed the door to my truck and started walking towards the school.

"Where's your jacket?" Edward followed me.

I gave him a weird look. By this point he usually had found some excuse to go far away by himself.

"I didn't have many warm clothes to begin with. You know, Phoenix and all. And nothing that I do have fits over this stupid brace. I'm gonna have to go shopping or something this weekend, " I explained, holding up the arm with the brace.

"Jesus, Bella. This is Forks, you're going to get a cold," Edward scolded.

Although, I did like the way my name sounded coming from him.

"Bella?" Edward's voice snapped me out of thoughts.

"Hm?" I blinked up at him. I looked at him, confused, as I noticed his jacket which he was holding out to me.

"Take the jacket, Bella," Edward's voice was amused.

"Um, okay?" I grabbed it from him, wondering why he needed me to hold his jacket.

"Now put it on," he said slowly. Oh.

"But you'll be cold."

He snorted. Actually snorted! "Says the girl in the t-shirt. I'm wearing a sweater. Plus, my mom made me wear layers."

His cheeks heated up as he realized what he just admitted. It was cute.

He cleared his throat. "And it would go over your brace easily-"

"Okay, okay," I cut him off from his rambling. I rolled my eyes and pulled on his jacket which was way too big, pushing up the sleeves. I was immediately enveloped by his comforting scent, like I was wrapped in an Edward hug.

I took a deep breath, wrapping myself tighter in the warmth of his jacket and smiling. "Thanks."

I held my arms out for my books, but Edward just shook his head.

"No way. You shouldn't be carrying books with your arm the way it is."

"So what? You're just going to carry my books all day?

He gave me a cheeky smile that answered my question. I was taken aback by how utterly perfect he was, his eyes sparkling, hair sticking up in all different directions, his smile lighting up his face. The sun was behind him, making him look like an angel.

Edward made good on his promise and was waiting outside to walk me to my classes, carrying my books for me. It was taking me a while to get used to this different side but I wasn't complaining in the slightest.

I knew people were surprised to see that Edward was talking and being friendly to someone not in his family, and it was a little hard to ignore the obvious stares.

I was able to avoid Jessica's questioning in class, which I was grateful for because to be completely honest I didn't know what to tell her.

When Edward met me outside of the classroom, Jessica was watching us with curious eyes.

"Bella, would you like to j-join me for lunch?" Edward asked, running a hand through his hair.

"Um, do you mind?" I turned to Jessica who was still waiting, watching us.

"No!" She shook her head. "We'll talk later," she winked, walking down the hall towards the cafeteria.

I followed Edward through the lunch line as he piled food onto a tray.

"You're gonna eat all that?" I raised a brow.

"With your help," he told me in a duh tone.

"But I-" I was cut off by the look Edward gave me. "Fine."

He led me over to an empty table on the opposite side of the cafeteria from his family.

"They won't mind if you're not sitting with them?" I pointed over to where his siblings kept looking at us.

"Nah," he quickly dismissed, sitting down.

"So," I started once we had both settled into our seats. "Why?"

"Why what?"

"This," I gestured to the two of us. "It seemed like you used to go out of your way to avoid me."

Edward gave me an apologetic look. "I just don't want to stay away from you anymore."

I narrowed my eyes at him. "You do realize I have no idea what you mean, right?"

Edward shrugged, pushing a slice of pizza towards me.

We casually talked about our likes and dislikes for the rest of the lunch period, and I was pleasantly surprised how easy it was to talk to him.

We walked together to biology and took our seats, no tenseness between us for the first time.

Mr. Banner gave us an easy worksheet we had to fill out which left us most of class to continue our conversation.

"Do you want to go out somewhere?" Edward blurted out.

I blinked a couple times turning to him. "You mean like a date?"

His cheeks started to turn a bright red. "Yes. Uh, unless you don't want to. It doesn't have to be a date. We can just hang out as friends or whatever," he rambled.

I couldn't stop the smile from taking over my face. "I'd like that," I cut him off. "The, uh, date thing."

"Really?" His face lit up. As cool as Edward seemed to act in front of everyone else, he really was just a big dork and I absolutely loved it.

"Yeah. When did you have in mind?"

"How about Friday after school? We could go to Seattle or something?" He nervously fidgeted with the pencil in his hand.

"Seattle sounds good. It'll give my truck a good workout," I joked, not intending to take my truck at all.

"You'd be lucky if that truck makes it out of Forks," Edward chuckled.

"What's wrong with my truck?" I teased him.

"N-nothing! I didn't mean...I meant...uh…" Edward stuttered, his cheeks turning pink.

"I'm kidding!" I grabbed his arm.

"Oh," Edward sighed in relief.

"Um. So we'll just go after school?" I asked him.

Edward nodded. "If that works with you."

"Sounds like a plan."

"Cool," I smiled at him.

"Cool," he replied with a smile.

The bell snapped us out of conversation.

"Ready for your next class?" Edward picked up my books and stood up.

I scrunched up my nose. "Ugh. Gym."

Edward looked at me for a second. "Follow me."

He led me to the office where he confidently strode up to Ms. Cope.

"Hi Ms. Cope," he gave her a dazzling smile. I felt myself getting lost in it myself.

"What can I do for you Edward?" She giggled. The effect that boy had on women!

"Well, Bella here wasn't feeling well because of her arm, and she has gym next. So I was wondering if I could just take her home? I have study hall anyway," he gave her puppy dog eyes.

"Well of course! How thoughtful of you. Let me just get you both to sign out," Ms. Cope quickly filled out the sign out sheet on the table. "There you guys are! All set."

"Thank you!" Edward grabbed the wrist of my good arm, pulling me out of the office.

"You're taking me home?" I asked him. "What about my car?"

"Well I actually wasn't going to take you home," Edward admitted. "I mean I can if you want. But there somewhere I wanted to show you. We can come back for your car."

"Okay…Are you going to tell me where?"

"It's a surprise," Edward smirked at me.
