A week later, school was back in session as the country seemed like it was heading in a sort of recession of safety after crime ramped up with All Might gone and no longer seeming like a threat that if anybody did bad enough things that he would interfere. Hawks was indeed busier than before, but surprisingly didn't complain about it much. He wasn't officially number two since the Hero Billboard Chart wasn't for another couple months, when it would become official.
All Might was still teaching, in that skinny and malnourished form. He didn't seem to have his powers anymore. Was Luffy the only one left in the world with strength like that? If he lost that power, he'd never get it back. Well, he had his glasses so he wouldn't need surgery again. Plus, it was one of his stronger and thicker quirk nerves, so there would be no accidental cutting it.
Bakugo was back, grumpy and refusing to talk about what happened to anybody. Nobody pressed him. It had been a week and still nobody said a thing of Luffy being the anonymous tipper. He felt he was safe since none of the teachers approached him. And Hawks didn't get anything from the hero society or police about the kid living with him being the one who caused the Kamino district nightmare.
Well, he didn't cause it. He just gave the address for it.
Aizawa told them that, since the training camp was a bust, they would be training on campus for the provisional license exam. Luffy internally cheered. He hadn't missed out on honing skills! Just missed out on a terrible experience. Nobody was talking about it. Not that he'd heard, at least.
Just like no one had mentioned the attack on USJ. He was the only one to have never been targeted by the LoV yet was the one who lost them their HQ and leader. It was actually really funny. So nobody reported him and nobody had found out. He was proud.
The tired hero told them that half of those that take part in the test fail. So they needed to be prepared. For that reason, the students would be replacing the summer camp with quirk training at the school in one of the gyms. Midnight came in and spent a good while talking about how important ultimate moves were. All heroes had ultimate moves, so they had to come up with two each or they wouldn't be able to take part in the test.
This had many worried, including Luffy. With the quirks he chose as his main, he didn't know how to power them up. He'd been thinking about it for awhile and still only thought he could improve technique, not power. Well, that would have to do, right? So, for most of the day, they'd be working on their quirk improvement. Since all of their teachers were helping them out, there wasn't a regular class schedule.
They got changed and went to the gym gamma, where they'd be training. Luffy saw a problem with this set up immediately. If he worked inside, he'd be a danger to everyone inside and the building itself.
So while everyone went to their own corner of the room, Luffy went to Midnight and asked if he could work outside. "Sure," she said. It was obvious why working there would be a problem, both because of the strength of his quirk and the fact that he has wings and flew for most of his attacks.
So he was the only one outside on the grass, unsupervised. He flew high in the air and then plummeted down, picking a spot to aim at and flipped over and over, bringing his heel down on the ground right where he was aiming and leaving a huge crater that cracked the surrounding areas, including the base of the gym.
"Oh no!" he shouted and ran inside. They had all felt the shake. Midnight came out and saw the destruction of the nearby yard.
"Um, why don't you go further from the building?" she asked, seeing the crevice. Luffy bowed in apology and then hurried away, face bright red. So now he was way out on the field, away from everyone else and feeling a bit lonely. He'd try something else, a little less destructive. But there was nothing to practice with other than the ground. Cementoss was making them cement towers to use and work on.
Once upon a time Luffy would have wished he could use Cementoss' power himself, but he no longer thought that way. He didn't think about creating something with Yaoyorozu's power when he needed a random object. His quirk was his wings and strength.
He knew that he still had all of the UA people's powers. He'd lost 20 of the oldest ones. He walked back and asked Cementoss if he could make him a huge block of cement and then some cement bars.
The teacher nodded and soon Luffy had his own kingdom of rock towers. "Thank you!" he called, and got to work. He was going to try something with his strength. If he could send a roundhouse kick at the rock and try to do what All Might did with his punch and create a blast of air with his leg, maybe he could slice the structure up!
He would try in the air so he didn't ruin it from the start. He flew high and then spinned down, at the last minute slamming his leg down but not making contact with the cement, he sliced right through it. Only he went too hard, and there was now a gaping crack in the ground. "Fucking- fuck…" he grumbled, balling his fists. There was no way he could actually try to make improvements anywhere but a fucking dump or out in the wilderness.
He stood on the toppled cement, looking down at the crevice. He saw a bunch of bugs and said, "Sorry for fucking your place up," lamely. Then he put his face in his hands. Hawks would laugh at him about this. Especially apologizing to bugs. Well, they could say that was a super move. There! One down, one to go. If the place could even sustain another super move.
So, air slices are a go! Next… what was next? Maybe something that didn't require a lot of movement or force. But he already knew how to kick and punch just fine. Maybe sending air waves again, but one that didn't have so much effort.
He looked at both hands and then opened his arms wide before he slammed his hands together in a deafening crack that shattered the windows of the gym building he wasn't even facing. "Shit!" He flew over, and saw that everyone was more surprised than hurt. "Is everyone okay?" he asked, in the doorway. Everyone stared at him. "I keep destroying things, if I do the super moves again most shit will break!"
Aizawa walked over to him and asked what had happened. "I clapped… too hard, I guess? And I made a mess over there, too," he said and pointed at the visible crack in the ground. "Nowhere is safe for me to try and make stronger moves," he said honestly. "I don't know how I'm supposed to train if I break everything around me."
Aizawa looked troubled, too, trying to figure out a solution. "Since your strength part of the training is too much, apparently, why don't you try with your flight?"
"Try what?"
"Going faster."
"Oh. Okay, but I won't be on campus anymore. I'll come back, though. Is that fine?" Luffy asked. He couldn't fly around campus quickly. Couldn't test his speed in an enclosed space. Aizawa said that was the only way he could do it, so Luffy nodded. "I'll try and break the sound barrier," he said. "See you later!" and he was off.
He was high above the city and country as he got high enough that he didn't worry about others seeing him and he took a deep breath before shooting forward as fast as possible, pumping his wings as hard and fast as possible until he was too fast that he was super normal glasses would have shattered and his hair was whipping around his face. He was over the open ocean now, and thought, "No turning back now!" and kept flying until he was going so fast he had trouble breathing.
He kept flying until his wings burned and ached. He had no idea where he was anymore, but kept going in a straight line. He flew over the ocean, knowing he was way, way out of what boundaries Aizawa would have set if Luffy had stayed there long enough to listen.
He was over land again, passed a plane, seeing it was with english words on it. Fuck yes, he was flying around the world! It was amazing! He kept going, now slightly worried he'd get shot down by seeming like some sort of aircraft. So he went faster, wanting to get out of that area as soon as possible.
He felt his wings getting used to the brutal pace and he angled his face the right way that his mouth wasn't blown open. He pumped faster and harder, a determined look on now. He flew so far that he beat the sunset, the sky turning dark and then light against as he reached the Atlantic.
It had been a long time since he was amazed with his abilities. And he didn't take a quirk for speed, he was using the strength on his wings. This was his own improvement. He was in awe, and noticed he'd been flying for an hour before he saw the busy life below of China and then back over the small sliver of ocean before he was in Japan again, and crash landed at UA in the grass, breathing heavily.
His wings were aching as he caught his breath, exhausted. His wings were dead weight, he would need a break to fly back home. Maybe he'd have to call Ace to pick him up. Well, Hawks would be impressed.
He walked back to class, his arms and legs tired and bright red. He walked in to find everyone getting packed. "Luffy! Where the hell have you been?!" Aizawa shouted, seeming really angry. Luffy put his hands up and said he lost control of his speed. "What's that mean?"
"Well I had to keep going since I had no idea how to get back unless I went in a straight line," he reasoned. Aizawa demanded to know what he meant. "I sort of went around the world." The class grew silent and then shouts of disbelief began. Luffy tried to get everyone to quiet. "I'm not doing it again. I got a new super move, I guess."
"Are you okay?" Uraraka asked, seeing his shaky legs.
Luffy said, "I need to be driven home while my wings recover. And I had to go faster because I didn't want to get mistaken for an enemy aircraft so I went as fast as I could."
Aizawa was silent before giving him detention. "But, I did what you wanted me to! I went as fast as I could."
"I did not tell you to travel around the world. If you'd listened before flying off, I'd have given you a range around the city. You have detention for lunch tomorrow. No buts, you aren't allowed to go that far ever again. Understand?" Luffy hung his head and nodded.
The class was either laughing or in awe. He feathers were ruffled up and his wings ached. Well keeping them still for a bit would let them heal fairly quickly. He just had to rest them. Give them time to recuperate.
He was impressed that his clothes were still intact, and he changed into his school clothes, putting his costume away in his backpack. He called Hawks on his break that Luffy had memorized.
"What's up? Is everything okay?"
"Can you come pick me up? Driving or flying, I don't care," he grumbled. Hawks asked him what was wrong. "My wings can't move and I got stupid detention." Hawks asked what was wrong with his wings and why he got detention. "Well, I kept destroying shit trying to practice super moves for the provision license exam. I cracked the fucking building, make a huge crevice in the lawn and blew out windows by clapping too hard. So then Aizawa told me to try and fly faster, so I did but he got mad because I was gone for an hour and that was too long," Luffy ranted. "And he's angry because I was way off campus when I went around the world but it was an accident! I got lost, how was I going to get back other than flying in a straight line!"
Hawks was quiet on the other end before he sounded angry and impressed. "I'm just going to fly over, but I can't believe you went so far. You deserve detention, no matter how impressive that was. Who flies around the world during school hours?" he asked. Luffy could tell when the phone line went through his headphones now as the sound was louder and more scratchy.
"It was an accident. I won't do it again. And I'm not having us pay for damage to the school. They were the ones that told us to push ourselves."
"Somebody is very cranky about getting detention."
"Of course I am! I've never gotten detention before!" Then he grumbled profanities.
"It's just one detention. Considering who the guy is I'm surprised he didn't threaten to expel you. Be happy you only got a detention."
He paused. "Oh shit, you're right! That could have totally gotten me suspended or worse. Well, I didn't hurt anyone or anything. Well, besides the training ground, and the building. But it was an accident. I'll cooperate and do the best detention."
"Those are goals right there. 'The best detention.'"
"Oh just shut up and get me," Luffy grumbled.
"No need to be so pissy, I'll be there in a couple minutes. You're lucky I'm on a break." Luffy apologized for being inconvenient. "It's fine, it's giving me something to do."
The phone hung up and Luffy sat on the steps of the entrance. All Might walked up behind him. "It's good to push your own boundaries, but not when it's thousands of miles away from school." Luffy snorted, and apologized.
"I don't know what I was thinking. I think I was scared at first but then I kept thinking that 'I've gone this far, why stop'." He sighed. "I'm sorry I caused the school trouble."
All Might pat his head. "This is not the first time an overzealous student damaged the campus during practice." Luffy asked who it was who'd done it before. "It was me! My teachers hated me sometimes. I destroyed a building by accident by throwing a punch. So, after I went here, the school has become more understanding and taken better insurance over the campus in case of events like today's. But, we have agreed that your two supermoves have been completed. And not just because you're a danger to the campus if we do another training session like this."
Luffy chuckled and nodded, thanking him for support and understanding. Hawks came after All Might walked back inside. Luffy grabbed Hawks' hand and he shot off, gripping onto Luffy's arms tightly. "I can't believe you got detention for visiting other countries!" he laughed. "So, what was it like?" He was shouting but so he could be heard by Luffy.
"It was awesome. I flew between time zones. I flew into the night and then out to the day back again. But it was painful, so I'm not doing it again," Luffy replied, voice raised above the wind as well. He dropped Luffy off back home and said he had to get to work.
"I picked you up from school, you have to make stew."
"No, we have left over curry. We're having that," Luffy said. Hawks pouted but then flew down. Luffy went to his room and collapsed on his stomach. His wings hurt really bad. They were sore and burning. He'd over exerted them, and he was upset. It was an amazing experience, but it caused him pain and Hawks inconvenience.
Part of him wondered if All Might suspected something about Luffy's power that had originally been his. He hoped not.
After about an hour of resting them, his wings felt fine again. He messaged Ace the story, but wasn't too shocked when he was angry as well. For going someplace no one knew he had gone and where no one could get to him. What if he'd crashed? Nobody would know where he went. Luffy understood why everyone was upset. It wasn't smart. And it was reckless.
I won't do it again…
Promise?
Yeah…
-x-
"What? What?! One of your students got detention?" Monoma asked around the corner, Luffy picking up trash.
Kirishima seemed to be bragging about why Luffy got detention. "Luffy flew around the world and was gone for an hour." Those in the hall screamed in disbelief. He was irritated with how much trash was just flung around. He'd never noticed just how much there was.
"Stop bragging about my stupidness," Luffy said.
"But it's so manly!"
Luffy insisted, "No, it was stupid. What if I'd crashed somewhere? Nobody would know where I am or how to help me. I'm never ever doing something like that again." He was angry at himself. He'd written an apology to Aizawa for making him worry.
"Don't do it again," Aizawa said when Luffy went to get his detention slip signed.
"I've learned my lesson. I could have gotten hurt somewhere and nobody would have known where I'd gone. So, I'm sorry for causing you trouble." Aizawa said at least Luffy apologized sincerely. He gave a look to Kaminari behind him, who looked insulted and hurt.
He was given his practice time off that day, which pretty much left him with nothing to do all day. His wings were still sore even if they felt fine earlier. So he wasn't flying anywhere but to and from home. He walked to the gym, and he walked back. Usually he'd waste no time and just fly there.
So he pretty much watched the others practice with a pout. He kicked his toe into the ground, hands in his pockets. He wasn't safe to try and make ultimate moves. If he was that powerful, then he'd be an embarrassment if he didn't pass the test. It was a shit day for him and he went home unsatisfied.
The next day, he was at full strength, able to fly to school and go around the city a few laps, and was ready for the test. Hawks had left him a really stupid "motivational card" that looked more like a death threat that he'd somehow cut words out of magazines saying "Don't fail". Like some scary teenage kid was going to murder him if he didn't pass.
Overall, Luffy wasn't really sure what kind of message he was trying to send with that.
He didn't fly to the testing site, and took the bus with everyone else, in a different place than the other first years so they didn't fight against one another. "How do you feel about going up against your friends from Shiketsu?" Kirishima asked.
Luffy shrugged. "I'm not gonna go after them, except for three. I'm getting all of them out in the most humiliating way possible. I won't let them pass," he growled.
"Yikes, they people you don't like?" Kaminari asked. Luffy nodded, saying they were all assholes but what really got him was that they stole his glasses when they knew he needed them. Didn't know why, but they knew he needed them to function. "What an asshole! Yeah, don't let them pass!"
Others in the bus urged him on to humiliate them as well. "There are three of them. One has green hair, the other blue and the last red. They're easy to see, and have capes and glasses. I think you'll know if you see one of them. And point them out to me if you see them first. There has to be some sort of battle royal or free for all to narrow the students. If there's a 50% pass rate then a lot of people fail." They all agreed to help him with that if he needed.
When they got there, they met a couple different schools before Luffy found Shiketsu. "Zoro! Sanji!" Luffy called. His old friends ran over and shook his hands. "How are you?" he asked with a grin.
"Good. Zoro finally beat those assholes," Sanji said. "Saw you at the sports festival! You were fuckin' scary. Don't let out on us."
Luffy told him there were only three people he was targeting at this exam. They laughed and grinned. "There's my class and teacher. I got detention the other day because I flew round the world when I was supposed to be in class," he laughed.
"Oi, Luffy, let's go inside," Aizawa called. Luffy nodded.
He turned to his friends and said, "You guys better pass. I'll see you later, good luck!" Luffy ran back to his classmates, who asked him who they were.
"That was Zoro and Sanji. They were my closest friends at Shiketsu. They were really understanding about me switching back. They're good guys. But I don't care if you go after them in whatever contest we'll be having. They gotta make it out on their own, so do you guys."
Aizawa told them to go get dressed, so they went inside and changed, putting their school clothes in lockers. They went into a very crowded room, full of other students. It was easy to spot the Three Jis. Based on the speed he acquired, and seeing that he could see crystal clear if he paid attention, they didn't stand a chance with either speed or strength. Luffy was way ahead of them.
So when the directions were given on the activity, Luffy's heart hammered in excitement. It was a free for all where each student gets six rubber balls to use to get two people "out" by hitting three of the targets they put anywhere on their bodies. It didn't say whether you could put them in inconvenient places with your quirk, just not the armpits or other spots.
So, when they all walked out, Luffy's balls were on his sides, up high. Someone could hit them, but it was unlikely unless they had masterful aim. And there was no limit on how many people you could get out, either. Luffy was going to get them out quickly. He flew up, surprising some of those who hadn't seen him.
He easily found the Three Jis and was so fast that he threw all six of his balls with them just standing there. Then he picked one of the balls back up and slammed Ichiji down, hitting the rubber ball into each of the targets.
They were both stunned since it had happened so quickly. People were screaming about how fast Luffy had been, running off, when they finally really registered what had happened. Luffy gave them a smirk, and said, "Better luck next year." He grinned at their rage and flew off, backwards until he was with his classmates again. He'd passed. One of the first to pass.
"I'm done, got all three of them! Before they even knew what was happening!" Luffy bragged, laughing. He would help his friends, and collected balls for them after some lost theirs. Then they all got separated besides Luffy. He grabbed a near rubber ball and got the guy who separated them. He tried to fight back but Luffy overpowered him, hanging him up by his hand as he pressed each of his targets.
"What the fuck! You've already passed!" he shouted, coughing from the punch to the gut he'd gotten.
Luffy calmly pointed out that there had been no limit to how many you can take out. Then he flew up and away, looking for anyone interesting. He saw someone commanding a gust of wind. He was from the other class at Shiketsu. He was a happy guy, Luffy knew, he just never met him personally. Inasa. He flew to him, and perched on the building across from him.
"Hey! You're the guy who transferred out!" he shouted.
"Yeah, it's me! I heard you were a good guy, but I never got to meet you. I'm Luffy. I already passed, so there's no need to go after me."
Inasa laughed and then asked if he had seen the Three Jis, only he used their names, not Luffy's convenient title for the three of them. "I already got those assholes out." His old fellow-classmate laughed, saying he was glad they didn't pass. "You quirk is pretty cool," Luffy commented.
"Not as cool as yours, though, or as flashy," Inasa replied. Luffy laughed and thanked him before saying he was going to go look around, and he flew off and asked his classmates if any of them needed help. Besides Mineta since he'd been begging for help since the test started. Luffy wasn't going to do everything for him.
Once he'd taken twenty people out and others started trying to take cover if he flew above, an announcement was made that you could now not take out more than three, and if you did any more, you'd be disqualified. Luffy pouted, but knew it was meaning him and he flew to the place those who passed would go to.
Todoroki was there, having already passed. Luffy ran over to him. "Were you the one taking out extras?" he asked. Luffy grinned and nodded. "Did you get the three assholes out?" Luffy nodded again. He looked around, wanting to know where Zoro and Sanji were. He hadn't seen them overhead, so he'd assumed they had passed. "If you're looking for your two friends from Shiketsu, they passed and went to get something to eat that they brought with them."
Luffy sighed, glad they'd passed and the Three Jis didn't. "I took them out so fast they didn't know what happened. It was beyond satisfying," Luffy explained. "Then I went around to go hunting until I got told I couldn't do it anymore." He sounded bummed, and he was. He then said he hoped everyone else passed.
And slowly, small group by small group, class 1-A trickled in. It didn't take too long before the 100 people who passed were there. He barely had time to talk with Zoro and Sanji before directions for the next test were explained. A rescue mission. Luffy could fly, but couldn't really carry a lot of people safely.
Well, he could rescue good enough, be nice and get people out of a dangerous area. He'd never had rescue training, so this would be new. But he felt he'd be fine at it. Failing in saving people would be pathetic. He'd already saved people before but not in disasters. More like against bad guys on the street.
There were explosions outside as the arena was decimated and victims appeared, trained actors who would be grading them. Luffy flew up and circled before finding the first couple of victims. He landed and gently helped an elderly woman out. "Are you okay?" he asked, taking her in both arms. "I'll take you to safety," he said and flew her to a designated first aid station before doing the same for others.
He wasn't very talkative other than telling them when he first got them that they'd be saved and where he was taking them. He wasn't extremely charismatic, but he was nice and serious. He didn't promise anyone they'd be fine. What if they had long term injuries and he told them they'd be fine?
He got excited when villains attacked. Well, villains for the exam that were really actually heroes. Luffy had saved twenty two people, carrying them smoothly from the wreckage that he easily moved away and to the first aid station. Luffy came flying at warp speed from the side and kicked Gang Orca in the side, throwing him into the wall hard.
The teen landed smoothly. Everyone was shocked before liquid cement was being shot at him, he flew up high above so they couldn't reach him. He dived behind and got rocks, shooting them down and breaking the guns, causing cement to drip onto their feet and trap them there. He landed and Gang Orca was there, blasting him with his sound wave, making Luffy grit his teeth but recover quickly, punching his face though he was grabbed and thrown to the side, but was able to catch himself and fly up.
But he had a small headache from the attack, holding his head, trying to stop the ringing. "Luffy!" Midoriya shouted when Gang Orca charged at him, Luffy getting out of the way and kicking him on the back. He flew to the other side quickly so he wouldn't go out on the victims.
"You're pretty tough, kid," Gang Orca said. Luffy thanked him, but then noticed Inasa and Todoroki getting in an argument, and their powers disrupting Luffy's fight, the wind sweeping Luffy to the side.
"The hell are you guys doing?!" Luffy shouted. Gang Orca attacked Luffy while he was distracted, getting close to hitting him with the echolocation attack, knocking him down. But then something worse than wind came, and Todoroki's fire went to the side, about to get someone who had fallen on the ground after an attack from the pro-hero/villain.
Midoriya was there, getting him out of the way just in time. "What are you doing?!" Midoriya roared. But soon both of the two who were arguing like children were pinned to the ground in cement blocks. Luffy stood up and flew above everyone, heading to the first aid station. Luffy told Midoriya good job saving the guy. "I don't know why they're arguing now!"
Luffy nodded. This wasn't like Todoroki. What happened to make him so angry?
But soon enough, the test finished, as everyone had been rescued. They were told to go inside and change, and wait for the results. Luffy walked up behind Todoroki and hit his head. "What the hell were you thinking?! You know there's no way you passed after that, right?" Luffy asked angrily.
Todoroki drooped his head, saying he knew. "He pushed my buttons, comparing me to Endeavor."
"Still, you could have hurt someone else if Midoriya hadn't been there." Todoroki nodded, saying he understood he fucked up. He didn't deserve the license after that. He regretted it, so Luffy didn't chide him anymore. "Hopefully there's a way to redo it without waiting a whole year." His closest friend nodded, though was still very down.
After they were changed into their normal outfits, then went to the introduction room and saw that almost everyone had passed besides Todoroki and Inasa. Luffy patted his friend's back and then they were given their scores. Luffy got an 89, marked down for being cold sometimes and for going straight to fight the villain.
He wasn't sure what to make of that, why it was a bad thing that he fought the villain. Maybe because he talked during it? Well, he passed! He'd get to do hero things now! More than the Endeavor internship where he did fight nomu, and helped with the Stain incident, no matter how little he took part in it. But still, those were accidents and he felt he hadn't learned anything else major from that internship.
Luffy wanted to go on a real mission, a serious one. He wanted to do more than patrol, and he also wanted to try patrolling on his own. In his costume, not just going around with Hawks. He sometimes got to help, but never in major ways. He never fought. Luffy understood why and was thankful Hawks let him help out in any way he could.
Honestly, he didn't know what would change if he went and interned at Hawks' agency, like he wanted to, and he wondered if any of his classmates would intern there as well. He hadn't offered to anybody besides Luffy as a joke. It would be cool to work with one of his classmates. He was sure Mineta would not be welcome, so Luffy didn't need to worry about being stuck with his least favorite classmate.
The class compared scores, and only one got in the 90s, but no one got 100 points. At least, in their class. They were all excited and happy, though Luffy did feel bad that Todoroki was the only one who didn't pass. Well, Bakugo didn't pass either. He didn't wish that more of his classmates failed, just felt bad for Todoroki being the outlier. It would make him feel crappy. He bet Endeavor will be pissed about it.
Luckily for Todoroki and Bakugo, there was a three month long make up course to get the provisional license without waiting a full year, but only for those who had failed the second round. So the Three Jis had to wait another year. It made Luffy happy, that he'd been the one to ruin them, humiliate them. So satisfying.
Before they left, Luffy met up with Zoro and Sanji, finding Zoro barely passed because he wasn't very friendly. Luffy thought it was funny, but he did pass regardless. Sanji said he couldn't believe how Luffy went up against Gang Orca. "Yeah, that head beam thing fucking hurt. Oh, I gotta go. I'll message you guys sometime soon. Congrats on passing! Rub it in the assholes' faces for me, okay?"
"You got it," Sanji laughed. Luffy was glad almost all of his friends passed. Besides his best one, which was sad. He really did feel sad for Todoroki and angry at the guy he got in a fight with. He knew Todoroki would have passed if Endeavor had not been brought up personally. He wasn't too happy with the happy wind-guy. Not at all.
When he got home, he took a photo of his provisional licence and sent it to Ace. Merry walked to him and rubbed against his leg. He picked her up and said, "I can work as a real hero now, Merry. I'll be super cool, just you wait." She bumped her nose against his. "I think I'll pretend I didn't get it and freak Hawks out. How's that sound?" She chirped though she clearly wanted a treat since she wriggled and then ran to the cupboard, looking at him.
He got out two treats for her and put them at her feet before putting his things away, no homework to do. He saw his old game on the shelf, and for nostalgia's sake, he brought it to the living room and got the very old game station out of the cupboard, hooking it up to play the game that gave him his wings, but wasn't very good besides that more personal memory of it. The graphics were pretty bad compared to now, since this came out 7 years ago. He couldn't believe how long it had been. It felt like a blink of the eye.
He smiled when he saw the character he based his precious wings off, and played like it hadn't been years since the last time he used this system. He beat a lot of the game, this time more patient than when he was a crabby 8 year old. He had his glasses on, even though he already had the main character's quirk.
Hawks came in when he was watching a cut scene. He was too happy to pretend he'd failed. "You haven't played this in forever," Hawks said in surprise. "Did you like my card?"
"It looked like a threat. Was that what you were going for?"
"Yup."
"Then you did it very well. And I passed. And I got the Three Jis out immediately! I laughed so hard, oh my god I was so happy," he gushed. "Todoroki and Bakugo are the only one sin my class who failed." Hawks was shocked by this. "Yeah, he got in an argument during a villain fight. It was a mess. I fought against Gang Orca. His power gives a terrible headache."
Hawks said Gang Orca was a unique guy but a good hero. "He seemed kind of scary, though." Hawks pointed out he had an apex predator's quirk. So maybe that was why?
