It was Alexei who first suggested that she use his family name. When he first brought it up, she was touched, to say the least. She hadn't been expecting such a kind and welcoming gesture.
But then again, the family units' actions went above and beyond her expectations - and some way below.
But more on that later.
"'Sascha Shostakov' has a nice ring to it, да?" he'd said.
It did. "Makes sense, as we are the original Russian super soldiers. We're like family in a way. In that way."
Yes, Alexei could be a little self-centered sometimes, the key reason for wanting to unite the Soviet Union's two super soldiers under the same name, but she believed he was good natured, and still, like she said, she was touched. It felt a little closer to having a family again, a little closer. And it made it all the more official.
She really was one of them now.
"We could change our names to Vasilivna," she suggested. Well, in his case changing his name, and in her case changing her own name back. "The name of the original super soldier herself." She laughed when Alexei's face fell. "Just kidding, Red Guardian. Shostakov it is." Sascha Shostakov.
And since then, the name had stuck.
"Today's your lucky day, Alexei," Natasha announced through the earpiece they had slipped to Alexei in his prison mail.
It stirred up ill feelings within Sascha, being reminded of how Natalia had outright left, outright abandoned them, her family. And now, here she was again, reuniting them all. Sascha wasn't all that sure how she felt about it.
But no time to think about that, not right now - they had a prison break to orchestrate.
The prison was in the middle of a white, snowy landscape, surrounded by sprawling mountains. Even if someone managed to escape, they would have to climb the mountains in order to truly get away - the only escape was up.
"Go left - just don't make a scene," Nat ordered him. Commotion could be heard all over. "You made a scene, didn't you?" Classic Alexei. He emerged out in the open, clearly visible against the bright white of the snowy landscape in his black and red prison clothes. "We see you."
"What now?" They could see that he was looking up at them from where they were hovering above in the chopper.
"We're getting you out of here."
"Prison break," Sascha announced to her companions. Crowds of guards and inmates flooded the outside, the alarm blaring all around them.
"Go to the upper level," Nat instructed. "Move your ass, super soldier!"
Alexei didn't need any more encouragement and promptly leapt up across the side of the wall to the upper level.
"Whoo! Couldn't have done it better myself!" Sascha cheered.
However, a prison guard was waiting for him at the top, and struck him with a taser, sending him plunging back down, smashing to the icy ground below.
She winced. "Spoke too soon."
"He's never going to make it," cried Yelena, peering down at the chaos below them.
"He's going to need help - super soldiers unite-" Sascha removed her headset and was moving towards the the door of the chopper.
Now Yelena was grinning. "Go get them, Sasch!"
"Oh you bet I will - time for this super soldier to move her ass-" With that, she jumped.
She was instantly surrounded by armed guards - been there, done that.
As she fought, she saw a flash of bright orange against the otherwise white surroundings - Nat herself had jumped down from the chopper, landing below.
Yup, she really is a poser.
Nat was now holding back the guards as well - but had to jump into a duck as the end of the helicopter spun low and almost struck her. "Are you kidding me?! What are you doing?!" Now she was shouting up at Yelena in the helicopter which swung around once again, still flying low, directly above them.
Gunfire rained upon them from one of the lookout towers at the edge of the prison. But a blast was fired from the chopper, totally taking down the attack tower.
"Whoo! Go Yel!" cheered Sascha.
The victory was short lived however - while the machine gun from the tower was no longer a factor or threat, a low rumble sounded around them and the whole prison suddenly seemed to tremble-
Avalanche!
Yelena's shot had triggered the mountainside to break away and slide - right towards them, threating to bury the whole prison!
"Боже мой-" Tons of rock and snow and ice was heading right for them! "Shit!"
The rope Nat had used to lower herself from the helicopter was still hanging. Sascha jumped and grabbed onto it, moving upwards. "Climb!" While she continued to climb, Nat hung onto the end of the rope, Alexei holding onto her for dear life as Yelena flew them out of there, and not a moment too soon - in a burst of icy fog, the whole prison was consumed.
Alexei shouted down, "Farewell douchebags!" before slamming the door closed.
"Ha!" Yelena cheered. "Yes!" Then, "I need some help up here!" she requested.
"Oh, that was exciting, I'm so proud of you girls-" All three had returned the headsets to their ears. "Oh, oh you can't hear me-" He put on a headset of his own. "I said, that was so exciting, and I'm so proud of you! But you should have brought the Avengers-"
PUNCH!
Yelena slammed her fist into Alexei's face.
"AH!" He buckled over for a moment, then recovered, rising back to stand upright - albeit slowly. "Good punch, Honey. But why so hostile? Why the aggression? Is it your time of the month?"
PUNCH!
"AH!"
This time it was Sascha's turn to punch him in the nose. "Come on, you don't just do that," she scolded him. "I mean, come on!"
He grumbled and cursed, holding his - no doubt very sore - nose.
"I don't get my period dipshit," Yelena told him. "Because I don't have a uterus."
"Or ovaries," added Nat.
"Yeah, you see that's what happens when the Red Room gives you an involuntary hysterectomy," Yelena continued. "They kind of just go in and they rip out all of your reproductive organs. They just get right in there and they chop them all away. Everything out, so you can't have babies-"
"Okay, okay!" he cried, throwing up his arms. "You don't have to get so clinical and nasty!"
"You asked for it. And I was about to talk about fallopian tubes, but okay."
"It means so much to me that you came back for me," Alexei told them, clearly eager to change the subject.
But his 'daughters' were determined. "No, no," Nat cut him off. "We didn't just free you for the hell of it - we did it because you're going to tell us how to get to the Red Room, and you're going to tell us now."
Thank you so much for reading and I hope you enjoyed! :)
