Chapter 3: The Calm Before the Storm

(Narrator POV)

Olivia was finishing up her meeting when they began having friendly conversation. He had invited her to their Christmas Eve party in two weeks. She happily accepted his offer. And made a mental note to ask Lucy to do overtime. But then she asked, "So Edgar... what's he like? I hardly know we've had conversations here and there but this morning he came over my house for the first time. I wonder who gave him my address." Say that fully knowing it was Garland who did so.

"Uhh, Edgar he's good people. Really down to earth kind of guy. He's a basic, plain and simple solid guy. He's one of the most friendly and care people you'll ever meet. And extremely humble guy. Why don't you see for yourself?" He asked.

"Like go out on a date with him?" Garland nodded and said "Or have a nice friendly lunch with him one day."

"I'll go out to lunch with him... maybe." Knowing good and well she wanted to go out on a date. But she didn't want to seem too vulnerable.

"Okay Olivia. Just take some time get to to know him you'll like him the more you get to know him. Even though he is perfect when you meet him." Olivia rolled her eyes in a lustful way saying "He is perfect isn't he? He's actually at my house with Noah he's sick and his babysitter was running late. "

"Speaking of Edgar..." Showing Garland her phone screen, he was calling her. Olivia excused herself for a moment.

"Hey Edgar"

"Hey Olivia"

"Is everything okay?"

"Yeah, everything is fine, great. Noah actually just woke up. I was wondering if it were okay if I took him to the bodega around the corner to get a Gatorade and some crackers for his stomach?"

"Oh yeah that's fine. Make sure he has on his hat and gloves. If he is to hot or he doesn't want to wear his scarf that's okay. I just don't want him to get even more sick." She said worriedly.

"I completely understand Olivia. I'd be the same if I had kids." He responded with a slight chuckle in his voice.

"Is that it?"

"Yup, how did your meeting go?"

"It went well. I'm actually just talking to Garland right now. We wrapped up about ten minutes ago."

"Oh I see. Okay well I'll see you later sometime." Saying with a hopeful voice.

She respond "yes, can I speak with no please."

"Sure no problem. "

"Hi mommy!" He said as excited as he could sound.

"Hi sweet boy is Edgar taking care of you well? How are you feelin'?"

"Yes he is. He is really nice and is helping me a lot I feel a little bit better now."

"Okay well Noah Mommy's got to go I love you so much and tell Edgar thank you!"

"Okay love you to mom!"

She walked back into Garland's office. He was giving her a look. She asked "What?"

"You know what..."

She knew he was talking about Edgar. But kept pushing him to say it for himself. "What do I know?"

"You know that I'm talking about Edgar. Was everything okay?"

"Yeah. He was just wondering if he could get Noah some Gatorade and Crackers, to help his stomach."

"Nice guy isn't he? Ya know, Olivia. Think you should give him a chance."

"I don't know, he is a nice guys and good looking but, I don't know if he would be into me. I guess. "

"He brought you flowers this morning and texted you many time yesterday and every time he talks about you says you are..." "absolutely stunning." They said in unison.

"Give him a try. "

"Okay well I gotta get to the 1-6. I'll see you later. "

They said their goodbyes and Olivia went to the ladies room down the hall. She had to get herself together. With all of the talk of Edgar and her being together she was turned on. Once she was fine she went headed off to the precinct area.

"Some one's in a good mood. And glowing." Fin commented when she walked in the precinct. "I am kind of in a good mood just a little stressed but I'm pretty good."

"It's nice to see you... like this." He gestured her body and stood and followed her to her office.

Olivia turned around and asked him what's up. Fin came in and closed the door. "Who is he?"

Olivia knee where this was heading, "I don't know what you're talking about."

Fin rolled eyes and said "Yes you do. I've only ever seen you this happy when you were with Cassidy and he was an ass. So this guy who is he. " He pressed.

Olivia let out a lazy breath. "Do you remember Edgar."

"The guy from Garland's thanksgiving dinner? Who was practically drooling all over you the whole time we were at the table. That Edgar?"

Olivia rolled her eyes and said "Yes him. But nothings going on there at least not yet. He came over and surprised me this morning with flowers. While I was having a emotional breakdown because I was late, Lucy couldn't come on time, and Noah being sick. But he said he would stay and watch Noah until Lucy could."

"So he's making a move... I see."

"Yea whatever. It's almost 10:00 and I haven't gotten a text from Lucy nor Edgar. I'm gonna call Lucy." Fin nodded and headed out of her office.

"Hey Lucy is everything okay?"

"No my mom she is in the hospital they don't know what's going on. We went in for her appointment and they found somethings and they won't tell me what's happening." Lucy said crying into the phone. "I can't babysit Noah today Liv. I'm so sorry but I have to be here for my mom."

"I completely understand Lucy take as long as you need. Call me when you figure out what's going on with your mom." Liv said trying to be as calm as possible know that Noah would be alone at home, when Edgar would have to leave.

"Ok Liv, I will. Also a guy named Edgar called my not to Lang ago probably two minutes before you had called me. He said that he would stay with Noah for the day since, ya know my mom is..." Lucy sentence died off trying not to get emotional again.

"Really? Okay I'll give him a call. Stay strong everything will be fine. Bye." Olivia said surprised. He really is a fine man. That's when she saw his text saying that he cleared his day and would take care of Noah since Lucy was unavailable. And then two pictures. One from the bodega from early and the second Noah was asleep on Edgar's stomach with his head resting on Edgar's shoulder. Wow. This man was really amazing with her son for their first time meeting.

She replied 'thank you so much you didn't have to call in but thank you! How is he doing?"

Quick to respond Edgar said not problem at all I would do it again in a heartbeat. Noah he is still the same from earlier no worse but not any better. He is finally resting hence the picture."

'You're really sweet. I should be home by 9:00. But with my job I never know.'

'It's okay no rush. I don't have anywhere to be.'

Olivia was trying to keep he composure but her face told a different story. She was blushing and had a very cheeky grin.

'Alright I'll see you later. Thanks again!'

'No problem.' This time ending with a pink heart emoji.

Her heart raced but immediately slowed down when Fin told her they had a case.

LATER THAT NIGHT 1:00am

Olivia walked into a quiet apartment. Guessing that the two boys were sleep somewhere. As she walked more into the house she saw a beautiful sight. Edgar was on her sofa which was definitely too small for him. And a sleeping Noah on top of him. She decided to take a picture because it was so cute knowing she had to disrupt it. She decided to try and take Noah from Edgar but he had a strong yet gentle grip on the child as the slept. She picked Noah up but as soon as she did it Edgar woke up looking for him. Not realizing it was Olivia yet. From the dark lights and also waking up two seconds ago.

"Edgar, it's a Olivia I'm just taking Noah to bed. Wait here for a second." Luckily Noah stayed asleep on the walk to his room. Olivia walked back in to the the living room area and Edgar was putting on his shoes and gathering his stuff.

"Edgar thank you again for so many things. Staying here for Noah and bringing me these wonderful flowers that you also put in a vase for me." She chuckled "Thank you for everything."

"It was honestly no problem at all. Anything for my best girl." He said as he poked her shirt. "He is really a sweet kid with good manners. If you ever need me for anything whether is to stay with Noah again or you need a friend to talk to. Call me, text me, come by my house. It doesn't matter the day or time don't be afraid to call me. I'll always answer for you." He said smiling.

"I might have to take you up on your offer one day?"

"Please do."

He was getting ready leave and they ended their conversation and they said by and hugged each other once the released each other the gazed into each other's eyes. They obviously felt their connection. And then Edgar left. And they both were on cloud nine! If only they knew that it would be very short lived.
