Chapter 5: Noah

(Narrator POV)

The doctor was asking for Olivia. Edgar stood up, but Olivia was hesitant. She wasn't ready for whatever the doctor was about to tell her. Edgar reaches his hand out in front of home to help her up and she took his and she went to open the door and he put his hand on it and put his hands on her hips and said "No matter what they say when we get out there I will stay by you and Noah's side no matter what." Olivia nodded and they exited the bathroom hand in hand.

Olivia was scared out of her mind she didn't know what to expect. Expect the worst and hope for the best was all she could think of.

"Olivia Benson?"

"Yes?"

"You're Noah's mother?" Olivia nodded as she squeezed Edgar's hand a little tighter.

"Well Ms. Benson I'm sad to inform you that Noah suffered from lots of fluid and blood in his lungs which cause him to stop breathing." The doctor paused.

"Can you just tell me if my son is alive or not!" Olivia snapped. "I'm sorry I didn't mean that I don't know what came over me." As she started to cry again. Edgar kisses her forehead again and repositioned behind Olivia with his arms around her.

"Well how is Noah doing?" Olivia rephrased.

"I'm so sorry Ms. Benson but-" Dr. Lin was cut off by a loud exasperated No from Olivia. She just kept saying no screaming and in hysterics, crumbled in Edgar's arms. He picked her up and hugged her while she cried.

The group waiting in the waiting room saw Olivia's reaction and began to shed a few tears of there own for the mother.

Dr. Lin tried to talk to Olivia but she was upset. "Sir?" Talking to Edgar. He looked with tears in his eyes from the news they just received and his heart was breaking for Liv.

"Noah Porter-Benson is not dead. I didn't get to finish I was apologizing because he was in a medically induced coma due to the pain he would be feeling right now since we had to intubate the side of his body to flush all of the fluid out.

He was so happy to hear those words even though those weren't necessarily good it was better than him being gone.

"Liv... Liv!" Trying to get her attention because she was crying so loudly. "It's okay."

"How could you say that?" Olivia was furious. "How is my son being dead okay?" She said getting violent with Edgar.

Edgar understood where her anger was coming from and he wasn't upset at her at all. "Liv, he's not dead." Olivia turned around the Dr. Lin and she explained everything and she cried tears of joy. They walked back to Noah's room and Dr. Lin left them alone.

She went and grab Noah's hand and cried some more. Edgar grabbed both chair and sat them both on the left side of Noah's body. There was a moment of silence where they just sat there. Olivia holding Noah's hand and Edgar holding Olivia's.

"I'm sorry, Edgar." She said as she got ready eyed.

"Sorry for what? For Being a mother? For being emotional over your son? There's no reason for you to apologize I knew you were just upset and I should have said what I said. It was a poor choice of words. That's my bad on my end. Don't ever apologize for being an amazing mother." He paused. "It's one of the things I love most about you. How loving you are towards him."

Olivia let two tears fall and Edgar was quick to wipe them away and said "you're too beautiful to be crying this much." They both kind of chuckled.

"You're too good to me." Olivia said letting more tears fall. "Hey what did I tell you about those darn tears." He said while wiping them away.

"I'm gonna go talk to the squad and let them know that he's doing alright. Okay? Olivia nodded.

Edgar went out to the waiting area and everyone was sad, gloomy, and had red puffy eyes. First person to speak up was Kat.

"How is she handling it?" She asked really wanting to know how Olivia was. "Not good but she's strong she'll get through it I will need you guys to help me keep her in good spirits as much as possible." Everyone nodded. Then Edgar was bombarded with questions from everyone. Once he finally got them quiet. "One at a time." Then Fin spoke up. "Well, what happened?"

"I know this is news to myself, Kat and Chris, but Fin, Rollins, Carisi you guys know that when Noah was a baby he had a lung condition due to his lung puncture as an infant. Which causes Noah when he gets sick which I very rare as you all know. To get very ill because his immune and respiratory systems begin to fail. Unlike some one without the condition who's immune system works harder to get rid of the bacteria. Well this time when Noah got sick he has pneumonia. But instead of just fluids that filled his lungs he also had a great about of blood in there too." He paused.

Kat said "Oh my gosh. Poor kid."

Rollins agreed "Yea but it was worse when he was a baby he was always sick." Edgar nodded then continued.

"The doctors had to intubate him to get time air they were able to drain some of the blood out. And he is in a medically induced coma for the pain." He paused because everyone was looking at him confused.

"We though Noah was gone?" Carisi finally spoke up.

Everyone murmured in a agreement.

"When we saw Liv early react the way she did we thought that he had passed." Carisi continued.

"So did Liv for a minute there she thought he had... passed away." He said getting choked up remembering how it felt in those minutes think Noah was gone. Remembering Olivia is what got him he couldn't do anything for her.

"Hey man, it's gonna be alright and Noah is like his mother... strong." Garland said knowing that he was near tears.

Everyone was leaving to get back to work because they had got a call. And Chris stopped to talk to his friend.

"Do you or Liv need anything?" Chris Garland asked.

"Uh I myself don't need anything. But Olivia forgot everything at her office could you bring it later if you come back? If not I'll find time to come there and pick everything up."

Edgar replied.

"I'll definitely be up here. La'mai wants to come see Liv and sit with her for a little while. Those two have become so close since thanksgiving. We'll come up together tomorrow but I'll bring her things tonight." He chuckled. Then he got serious. "But seriously man, I'm here for you and Olivia if you guys need anything, and I mean anything call me or have Liv call La'Mai. And Olivia she likes you and trusts you. Be here for her right now she needs someone. Be her friend that's she needs now and late be more than her friend. But she needs you." He ended his speech with a pat on Edgar's shoulder.

Edgar nodded and said "thank you, after this I owe you one." Chris Garland shook his head "No. You have been there for my family before I had my family so it's my time to repay you in trying to help your makeshift family for the moment." And with that Chris left and Edgar went back to Noah's room to be with them.

"Hey Liv!" He said quietly. He didn't know whether she was sleeping or laying her head down by the way her head was positioned on Noah's bed. She looked up and he could tell she had cried more from early. All she could do was smile in response. It was a very sad and dull smile but she tried. He sat next to her put his hand on her back. She relaxed to his touch but she was freezing.

"Liv you're freezing. Here take me jacket. Don't fight me on it either. I'll be fine I need to make sure you are well. Make sure the my best girl isn't gonna freeze." They both kind of giggled. It was a good the because he hadn't heard the in hours.

"Thank you. I thought you had left earlier when you said you were gonna go talk to the squad really quick." She said sadly.

"Leave you? Liv I already told you that wanna be around you and that I'm gonna be here for you. And Noah." He finished with kiss on her temple and shifted his chair towards hers to hold her.

Olivia melted in his touch. It was the most relaxed she had been in these two days. She really appreciated what he was doing for her. The she realized the he had asked her to dinner on Friday night. It was Tuesday. There was no way she could go. Then she was sad again. Edgar felt her change of emotion and looked at her and asked "What's wrong beautiful?"

"I ruined it..." she mumbled in barely a whisper. Edgar could understand her and her asked again. "What did you say?"

"I ruined our supposed to be first date. Out to dinner on Friday night. There's no way Noah is gonna be out in three days. And I'm a mess and now you're gonna be mad and upset because I ruined your plans and I just got in the way of everything you pla-." Tears falling down her face as she was cut off mid-sentence by Edgar.

"Olivia!" he said in a slightly raised voice so that she could hear him over her rambling. And she stopped.

"Why would I be mad? I have told you three things repeatedly today. I have told you that you are beautiful and stunning, no matter how much of a mess you think you are. I have told you that I'm not going anywhere. So what, little bump in the road. I'm gonna be here for you everyday."

"But I ruined the date that you wanted to go on...?" She said in tears from all of stress and frantic mess she has been in all day.

"I don't Olivia we can go out later. But for right now we need to help him get better so that we all can be fine and healthy together. And for my last and final thing. If I have told you once I have told you a million times. You are too beautiful for these tears." He said wiping her tears away and moving her hair back. He looked at her and pushed her long bang behind her ear and kissed you forehead tenderly.

"Chris is coming by later with your things from your office. And some food. He wanted me to ask you if you needed anything else."

He asked.

"Actually yes can you ask him to bring my flowers. I want to enjoy them while I can so that you don't feel like you wasted your money." She said sweetly.

"Okay I will text him. How about we set up these chair and make this as comfortable as possible and you take a nap I know you could use one." She nodded and they took the four chairs and the two blankets from the closet and made a makeshift bed.

He laid down first it was all that comfortable but it would work seeing there wouldn't be enough room for the two of them he suggested "How about he lay on top of me? I think I have a little more cushion than these chairs." Olivia looked at him for a second. She trusts him and decided oh what the heck and obliged. Once they were comfortable he threw the blanket over then and Olivia quick dozed off, he kissed he temple and not to far behind her Edgar dozed and Olivia fell asleep in his arms.

A nurse had came in to check on Noah. She had seen how cute they were. She was surprised they were only friends from the conversations she had overheard all day. Then she walked out and came Garland.

He had sent Edgar a text 10 minutes ago saying was on his way and he hadn't gotten a reply but now he knows why. He dropped off Olivia's things along with her roses and and so food. Then he thought it would be nice to take a picture of them together. He might send it to Edgar later. But he definitely was gonna show La'Mai. Then he left.

Everyone's mind was at ease after the hectic last half of their day. They all said a prayer tonight for Liv Edgar and Noah.
