PurpleOPlover: I see it! Thank you, I didn't even notice it! That was a typo. Lol nobody told me until you, so thanks!
We are officially past the halfway point for this story! Some serious shit goes down in this one, so trigger warning for like, torture. Hehehe, nobody should be surprised! Anyways, enjoy~
Three days later and Luffy's wing was covered in feathers even though it wasn't healed enough to fly yet. The feathers had just grown there. He was cooking breakfast for himself, as Hawks had gone to work after eating three of his favorite muffins that Luffy made him. He told him it would be a long day and he'd probably come home late after meeting with Endeavor.
He seemed so happy about that that Luffy found it entertaining. Endeavor had no idea Hawks was his biggest fan. Not a crazed one, obviously. A lifelong fan. He still had his Endeavor toys from when he was a kid.
He heard something hit the window and looked up to see it was a bug. It was weirdly loud to be a bug. Then another one hit, and he put the omlet on the plate and turned the stove off to go look at the window when another bug hit. It was freaking Merry out and she ran for Hawks' room, under the bed. Not a normal reaction to bugs, and not exactly making Luffy feel easy.
The bugs started to wriggle around and then join into one. But it wasn't a bug, it was some sort of slimy worm-like creature. Luffy made sure the windows were closed and locked. More and more slammed against the window until it was covered in the slime. Luffy started filming as he put his headphones on and called Hawks.
Luffy knew he might be interrupting him, but this wasn't natural. Especially when it covered the entire window wall. "Hawks?" he called over the speaker.
"Luffy? What's wrong?"
"There's something wrong, something latched itself onto the window. It's a huge black splatter. I'm getting bad vibes from it," Luffy explained. "It's starting to centralize into one big lump. And…" it was growing arms, three on each side. Then it grew two muscular legs, still attached to the window. It's head formed, and it was clearly a nomu.
It opened a mouth, and was clearly speaking though Luffy couldn't hear what it was saying. "And what? What's wrong?"
"There's a nomu trying to get into the apartment," he said in a hoarse whisper. "It's attached to the window, trying to break the glass." His hands were shaking as he filmed it still, somehow not dropping the phone.
Hawks could probably hear the deafening banging. "What do I do?"
"Don't leave the house! Inside the windows is the most secure part of the building. I'm on my way."
"No! It could kill you!" Luffy protested. "It could kill everyone!"
"Am I supposed to just leave you then?!" Hawks demanded. Luffy heard him call Endeavor's name, along with some others that Luffy recognized as smaller heroes. "Just, don't leave the apartment and stay on the line!"
Luffy didn't want Hawks to come, he couldn't imagine if he lost his wings too. It wouldn't grow back. The banging got louder and louder until the nomu looked up and crawled onto the roof. "It went to the roof." He had his costume face shield on connected with the headphones. He didn't know if he could get quirks from the nomus. He didn't want to see.
"Can you hear it doing anything?"
"A tinny, ripping noise. I think it's getting in through the vents. It can turn into liquid," Luffy's voice was surprisingly firm, but he was frozen in fear. When he saw the vent creaking and breaking open, Luffy backed up to the door. "Don't let it kill me!" Luffy suddenly screamed, losing his composed demeanor.
Hawks was shouting as he heard Luffy screaming and the sounds of banging before Luffy was sucked into the black goo, suffocating until the window wall was opened wide and the nomu flew away, suddenly forming wings. He could barely hear Hawks screaming through the headset since Luffy still had it on.
But he couldn't speak and barely breathe out of his nose. He was kicking and trying to get out but he felt like he was trapped in cement, unable to move enough to get out at all. None of his quirks were working, but then again, if someone was scared enough, they could lose their ability to control their quirk due to their body's overwhelming response to fear and nothing else.
Then it all went dark.
Luffy opened his eyes, for sure thinking the whole thing was a nightmare until he realized he was somewhere really cold, and the nomu that took him was in the corner of the room, just staring at him. Luffy's hands were trembling. He no longer had his phone but his headset was still there. He pressed the button to talk to Hawks, but there was no signal.
Where the hell was he if this headset, that covered a huge range, couldn't pick up a signal? And he was so cold, too, shivering in his pajamas. The nomu watched his every move. "What do you want?" Luffy asked with a trembling voice. It didn't respond. Luffy got to his feet and inched his way closer to the tiny window, seeing snow outside. Where had it taken him?
The nomu didn't move at all and Luffy realized it was standing in front of a door. The only way out. He wasn't stupid, he was in a very confined space with no way out with a huge nomu with six arms and two legs and wouldn't attack or provoke it. It just sat there and watched him silently.
He was cold and the moment he tried to raise his body heat with Endeavor's power, it let out a loud snarl, and Luffy stopped moving. He started to really, really worry, and attempted to suck his wings back in. Something he hadn't been able to do in many years. And it didn't work. They were useless and exposed. And he knew it was impossible for him to fly away, let alone get away from this thing.
The door creaked open, clearly old and rusty. Then he saw someone he hadn't seen in person but had seen on TV and in images online. The League of Villains had taken him. What he'd been worried about. His nightmares had come true. "Where am I?" he asked, voice surprisingly strong in the face of Shigaraki Tomura.
"Far from where Hawks will find you," he said simply. Luffy asked why he'd brought him here. "To kill time. You see, we have nothing to do or anywhere to go after you ordered the raid that got my father arrested."
Luffy replied, "You took my friend. What was I supposed to do?" He was taking slow breaths, not going to show fear. The nomu walked up to him and Luffy stared it with his head high. It then covered Luffy's head in the goo and he could feel himself being dragged out of the room, his bare feet skinning and then healing over and over. He was dumped in another room, breathing heavily after being suffocated, even if it was only for a short moment.
This really didn't look good. He was clearly going to be tortured. Or at least that's what he wanted. Luffy wasn't going to be tortured. He tried speeding over to incapacitate him, but his body was slow and heavy. He was horrified, recognizing the feeling from feeling it constantly for two months. He was drugged with quirk suppressants, though he could tell it wasn't a large dose.
But that may not be enough or good enough. "Nomu, put him on the table." The nomu encased his head again, a good way to keep Luffy from fighting back at all, and he felt himself be shoved on his stomach on the table and have his ankles and wrists tied down. "No one is coming for you."
Luffy decided to lie. "You kept my headset on me. You don't think that there's a tracker in it?" he asked, voice steady even though he was terrified, unable to fight or get away. He couldn't do anything.
"There's no tracker in there. We checked. We're not stupid." Luffy asked where they were keeping all of these nomu. "You don't need to know. You won't be wanting to know anything soon." Luffy was furious, but none of his quirks came. He wondered where they got these since they were restricted to only hospitals and in vaults since villains could use them dubiously if they got a hold of them.
Then the other door opened, this one sounding less rusted. He looked up to see others coming into the room, recognizing all of them. Not from seeing them in person, but he knew their faces well. Well, some faces and others' masks.
Luffy knew what he had to do. He had to wait for the drugs to wear off. He couldn't fight back until then. The best course of action was to show the most agony he could, even if the pain wasn't horrible. They were sick villains, they'd want to cause maximum pain. If that pain was at 100 from the start, they might get bored.
"Ohh, he's so cute! Almost as cute as Izuku," Toga Himiko gushed, looking like the high school student from hell. She looked absolutely insane. "Can I cut him?" she asked sweetly, coming with a knife.
"He'll heal just fine," Mr. Compress said. Toga stabbed into his leg with the knife and then yanked it out. The wound healed the moment it was removed, and Luffy didn't flinch.
"Eh, that's no fun! What can I do to make you scream?" she pouted. Luffy said nothing, just glared at her.
"Let's see if he can heal my power," Shigaraki said. Luffy started to struggle at this, but the drugs were keeping him weaker than a normal person would be. Completely helpless and vulnerable. A hand gripped his foot and he felt it dying only to come back. His regenerative ability was still there.
Twice, another mentally unstable one, said he thought Luffy was on quirk suppression drugs. "He is. It looks like the regenerative power reacts regardless. It will be hard to torutre him if he heals over and over. Let's see just how much his body can take," Shigaraki asked sickly, sounding excited.
Luffy closed his eyes, preparing for pain and only wishing they'd leave his wings alone. But he didn't have any hope or any chance of thinking they would. Everyone saw his reaction to his missing wing. Complete agony and despair. They were villains, they no doubt would want to recreate that.
They would grow back. Everything would grow back, he'd be fine. The next five minutes were spent with lots and lots of blade being shoved into various parts of his body. He kept his eyes closed, knowing he couldn't pretend to be in agony yet. He would be faking, but he'd make it believable.
But Shigaraki continuously dissolved his left leg only for it to reform at a rapid pace. "Eh, look at how his body is reacting." Luffy's head jerked back and he saw the area connecting his leg from the part being dissolved was turning a darker color. He could still move it, but the skin was becoming discolored. His regenerative powers had never been put to the test like this. He could only pray they could keep up.
"Oi, Dabi. Get in here, see if you can do anything." None of them seemed to realize he now had their quirks. His glasses were gone, his eyes wide open. But he couldn't let them realize that or they'd kill him.
Dabi, the fire user, came in, looking bored and nonchalant. "I'm still irritated you killed High End. But I guess he was worthless anyways." Then he grabbed Luffy's arm and set it on fire, and it did nothing. After all, he had that power, too now. But he pretended that it hurt and did damage. He bit his lips hard, scrunching his face even though he felt nothing.
His shirt was burned away, and he felt his feathers resist the heat. They didn't burn away. Dabi yanked one of the feathers out and Luffy couldn't help the wince there. "Such pretty feathers," Toga simpered, and started cutting them off. They didn't reform like that, as she was cutting the ends off. It would be hard to fly with them all shredded.
But he couldn't fly right now anyways. He dealt with the pain until they got bored, and Shiagraki said, "I know the only way to freak you out." Luffy's body went still when a hand gripped his bad wing. "And it's healing so nicely."
"Don't you fucking dare!" Luffy snarled. Shiagraki grinned and started dissolving it. Luffy thrashed around, but was still powerless. "Stop it! Fuckers!" he screamed, but his wing that had worked so hard to regrow was dead to the stump. It looked so bad, the skin was black. His wings were vulnerable to the dissolving somehow, and he didn't understand why. Were the quirk suppressants making it so the villains decay power was not canceling the original out?
"No!" he roared, trying so hard to get out. The others were laughing. He was horrified when his skin healed, sealing over the broken wing, looking like it hadn't been there in the first place. He had tears down his face. "Hawks is going to murder you all painfully when he gets here," Luffy said through the tears.
Toga said, "Aw, he's crying. Do his other one! Then he can't get away at all!" Luffy's face was red with tears and anger. They laughed at him as he mourned his new wing. He didn't know how many times they could grow back or how long it would take.
Shigarakai said, "That's no fun. But I am having fun making the strongest quirk cry like a little baby. Nomu, come take care of the other wing." Luffy didn't know what would happen until it was grabbed and crushing into broken bone and severed skin, screaming in agony as it was then ripped off. He shrieked in pain, the burning feeling he'd felt only days ago.
"No!" he cried. Shigaraki decayed down to the base and his skin automatically healed over. His wings were gone. And he didn't know if they'd ever grow back. Shigaraki left him in there, all of them laughing at him as he silently sobbed. The nomu went in the other room, seeming like it was his cage, and the door slammed shut behind it, sounding like it was locked as well.
He was limp, unable to get the will to move. His wings were gone, and he was trapped. He was ashamed. He couldn't keep them safe at all. When they came back in later, it was with more drugs as they tortured him more. But nothing worked after his wings were gone. And they got bored. He saw the room getting dark as night time came.
They came in one more time, and forced a pill in his mouth. He silently bit down on it, knowing the drugs only work if you swallow them. He made it like he fought back on swallowing until he was hit in the face. Where was Hawks? Was he really going to come or would Luffy die here? All alone and on a stone table?
Night fell and the room became even colder. He kept himself from sleeping before he felt his body awaken. He was desperate, and he needed them. He took a deep breath. "I'm sorry," he said to his own beloved wings before forcing Hawks' wings out of his back, the huge things coming out easily.
He watched Hawks do it enough times that he could do it just fine. He closed his eyes and let the feathers out, sending a large amount out of the open window to go and search for anyone and lead them there. To rescue him.
He had others go under the door and silently find their ways around the room where the League members were all sleeping. "Between the last and second to last vertebrate," he thought, tears in his eyes from missing his own wings, feeling like there was now no chance they'd return.
If they couldn't, he was keeping these ones safe and would keep them hidden so he wouldn't lose them.
He had all the feathers situated where they needed to be before he plunged them deep in their necks, slicing inside and severing their quirk nerves. He then dissolved the table and kicked the wall in. Some were wincing and Luffy said, "Those weren't my only wings, fuckers."
"We gave you the drug!"
"You have to swallow it to work. I chewed it." Luffy watched as Shigarki grabbed his arm, but his power didn't work. Luffy slammed his fist into his face, breaking his nose, cheek bone and several teeth. He easily did it to the others as well, until their bodies were broken. Arms and legs shattered. "Ever heard of a quirk nerve? It's placed between the last and second to last vertebrae of the cervical spine. Sever it, and you cut off the quirk nerve from the brain. It won't be repaired unless you have surgery from a skilled doctor.
"Your quirks are gone forever. They won't grow back. You shouldn't have messed with me," Luffy said, monologuing. He kicked them in the guts for good reason before he dissolved Shigaraki's legs.
"That's mine!" he shouted, voice nasally since his nose was broken and bleeding.
"Not anymore."
He then burned Dabi's legs off with his own fire, making him scream in agony. He sawed Toga's legs off as she screamed. He crushed the others' legs with stomps to their calves, turning them to mush.
"That's for my friends, for all the people you killed, for what you've done to me. The pro-heroes will get here eventually, and you have no way to leave." Shigaraki shouted for the nomu. It didn't come. He didn't know why.
"Nomu!" Luffy shouted. He had an idea about the nomu. That it reacted to the strongest around it. It was far fetched and stupid to try, but it burst into the room. "Kill yourself." It hesitated before it suddenly turned solid and shoved its fingers into its exposed brain, ripping them out and making the goo fall to the ground in a puddle.
"You're reign of terror is over. You're going to jail for life. You can join All For One and Kurogiri," Luffy said coldly. Then he grabbed Toga's hair and yanked it back, demanding to know where they were.
She spat on him. He dropped her painfully and left the room. He'd tortured them enough. He flew up to the roof. Hawks' wings were a bit smaller but a lot lighter than his previous wings. He curled up on the roof, in the snow, and cried over his old wings. He didn't want to be a copycat of Hawks, but that was how things happened. There was no changing it.
It was the only way to save himself, only way to be able to escape and get messages to anybody. He kept himself warm in Endeavor's fire. The snow melted on the roof before he headed back into the broken house. He heard Toga crying in the other room. He walked through the hole in the wall.
"Oh, it sucks to have your quirk gone, doesn't it?" he asked coldly, mercilessly. "Now, where the fuck are we or I'll cut your arms off, too."
"Okay! The outskirts of Niigata!"
Shit, that was really far from home. He sat down and sighed. He focused his feathers on going home. They were slow in the snow falling now. He couldn't wait that long or he'd die of dehydration, since eating snow for water was a no-no. He walked to the people and broke their arms like the nomu broke his wing.
"The pro-heroes will be back here for you. I know the nearest hero agency. You know what? I'll take you with me," he said and used Mr. Compress's power to put all of them in tiny balls and then into a small pouch he made out of a ripped up blanket. He had his destroyed pajama pants with pockets still, and stuffed it in there before flying in the snow, bringing the feathers back to help him fly.
He cruised to Fukushima, shivering in the cold a bit before he left the snowy mountainous area and was over a road and land. Barren land, but not covered in snow. Chilly, but not freezing. When he landed outside of the office, he closed his eyes and walked in, focusing on his senses.
He walked to the nearest man. "I've caught the League of Villains. They're in this pouch. I'll come and get them out once I can see."
"A-Alright. Thank you," the man said in shock. The people here clearly knew about him, as it was the hero agency in that prefecture. Luffy said he'd be back once he had his glasses on and could explain what happened.
He left and flew off again. His leg was discolored, and that hadn't gone away yet. If it ever would. He flew as fast as he could to Fukuoka, hoping to find Hawks there. He spent three hours flying, and then got there, landing at home, finding Hawks wasn't there. He found his phone on the carpet and saw it was still recording. He'd been gone for four hours based on how long the recording was.
He dialed Hawks. "Luffy?!"
"Yeah. I got free. I'm back home. Meet me at the hero agency Fukushima. I'll explain there," he said in a dead voice.
"Are you alright?"
"No, not really. You'll see when we meet up," he said quietly. Hawks said okay, and Luffy found his other face shield that he didn't use with his costume, changing regardless. He was a hero now, so he dressed as one and flew back where he came for three hours. It was a long, scary day.
One of sadness and regret.
When he landed there, Hawks was waiting, pacing outside. Luffy was right in front of him, and Hawks immediately saw his wings and the tears. He walked forward and hugged Luffy. "They destroyed them," he said. Hawks knew he was talking about his wings. "They weren't growing back and I needed them to. So I forced yours out. I'm sorry."
"I don't care if you have my wings," Hawks said. "I'm just happy you're okay. Come inside, it's cold," he said, arm around Luffy's shoulders in comfort. When they entered, Luffy was brought immediately to a room where the small balls were inside a steel case.
He took them out, and warned them that they weren't in good shape. "It'll be shocking, but it was necessary," he warned. Those in the room nodded and Luffy released the balls, revealing the mangled villains.
They weren't even needing to be cuffed since they couldn't move. "We need to question you about the situation," the hero leader said, someone he didn't know since he hadn't been to this agency in a long time and it wasn't under anyone specific.
Luffy agreed and went into an interrogation room and recounted the whole situation. "I have footage on my phone of the nomu attack. I have it here," he said, and handed him his phone.
"Alright, I'll have the video copied and then bring it back to you. And you erased their quirks? How?" Luffy said he learned from a doctor about quirk nerves. He didn't specify, said the doctor had told him it was confidential. It had saved him, he couldn't be happier he'd asked those questions and she'd answered. And just in time, a day before he needed them.
He was questioned for over two hours, and just wanted to go home. Just wanted to sleep. He'd put away his wings. Hawks' wings. He felt wrong without the weight on his back, but he wouldn't let these wings go to waste. He wouldn't not learn from the previous nightmares about how dangerous it was for them to be vulnerable.
Luffy was scared for Hawks' wings even though it wasn't necessary. After questioning, he was brought back outside the room and waited for his phone to be brought back, standing with Hawks in silence. His face was blank, empty of any emotion as self-hatred ran rampant in his heart. He couldn't protect his wings, and now they were gone.
After he got his phone back, he and Hawk left. Luffy should feel happy he captured the League, but all he could think about was his wings. "Let's go home, Luffy," Hawks said quietly, and Luffy nodded, growing Hawks' wings out of his back and taking off with him. Luffy didn't like that he'd be looking normal without his wings, but it was to protect them, which he'd obsess over now.
He left his mangled bloody wing at the hideout, unable to see it or accept it. Tears streamed down his face as he flew, but he kept any sounds in. The moment he got home he collapsed onto his hands and knees, sobbing, putting away Hawks' wings. He knew that his wings were gone. He knew it.
Hawks sat next to him and rubbed his empty back, avoiding the parts where the wings should be. He had teary eyes as he watched Luffy mourn his loss.
Everyone knows I love punishing characters, this story is no exception mwahaha! See you next week!
