Chapter 10: The date of a lifetime PT. 1
(Narrator POV)
Wednesday December 16.
Olivia was the first to wake up. She doesn't remember how she got in her room last night but she does remember that Edgar came over at around 2:30 this morning. She came out she saw a lengthy man laying across her small sofa laying under a jacket. She saw Edgar's face a smiled then went to go get him a blanket. She came back with the blanket and laid it across him. That's when she was pulled from behind by her waist by Edgar. The yelped then laughed, they both did. He said "Good morning, Captain."
"Good Morning."
"How did you sleep."
"Peacefully. Why did you stay the night? I'm not mad just wondering."
"Well last night after you fell asleep I took you back to your room and put everything up and was about to leave when I realized i didn't have a key to lock the door. And I didn't want to wake you because you looked so peaceful. I didn't want to move from the sofa. But I knew in the morning that would be something we both regret and I had to put the ice cream up. So I laid down on the sofa."
"You know you could have laid in the bed with me I wouldn't have mind. It's not like you haven't before."
"Well I didn't know how you would feel about that. And I didn't want to wake you up when I laid down either so, I made the best out of what I had."
"You should've. This is not meant to be slept on. I'm 5'8 and I don't fit on this thing. You're a whole foot taller than me. So I know this wasn't comfortable at all."
"You're right about that but it worked." he laughed.
Olivia suggested she cook breakfast for the two of them but Edgar had to go. He had an important meeting this morning the he couldn't miss. He then looked at his watch it was 6:38 and his meeting was at 8:00. He couldn't afford to lose anymore time. He got up hugged her goodbye and was out the door. Olivia went to take a shower and get prepared for her day.
Edgar was racing home. He could not late to his meeting. He forgot he had a suit in his office for times like this. He slowed down and went to his firm and prepared for his meeting.
Time went by and Edgar's meeting had ended about four hours ago. And he hadn't eaten anything today except for that ice cream in the middle of the night. So he left for some lunch.
Olivia was just chilling at work catching up on some paperwork. But her mind was somewhere else, when Fin walked in.
"Liv. Liv! Captain Benson!" Fin was trying to get her attention.
"Yeah Fin I'm sorry I zoned out."
Fin laughed and said "Your boyfriend is here."
She quickly responded and said "I don't have a boyfriend."
"He might as well be." Then he tapped he door and told Edgar he could go in.
"Edgar what's up?" She said standing up walking to him.
"Oh nothing much just getting lunch and I brought you some." Putting the food on her desk.
"Thank you."
"No problem, but I can't stay I gotta head back."
She nodded and he said goodbye and left. For the rest of the day the didn't talk to each other. Olivia picked Noah up from school and went home. Today was a chill day at work so her and Noah hung out for the rest of the day. Noah went in the freezer to grab some chicken nuggets when he saw all of the ice cream.
"Mom what's with all of this ice cream?"
"Edgar brought if for us. But no ice cream until after dinner okay?" Noah nodded and he then asked her another question.
"Are you and Edgar dating each other?" Olivia was shook by his question.
"No, Noah we are not. But mommy really likes Edgar and has a date with him tomorrow night. That's why you're going with Lucy. Do you like Edgar?"
"Yes. He's super funny and caring. He took care of me when I was sick like my friends dad does. He makes you happy so I'm happy. You should totally date him."
Thursday December 17- Date night.
Olivia was so excited for tonight but also really nervous. Her and Edgar had been out together for lunch and things of that nature. But they have never been on an official date before. And Olivia was really nervous. But on the other hand Edgar was excited but relaxed for the date tonight. He has been around Olivia and her knows this is the women he wants to be with and he just has to be himself. They have already expressed some sort of feelings to each other if he keeps doing what he's doing he'll get his girl. He wanted this date to be nothing but magical for Olivia. Knowing her life has been no fairytale, he wants her to feel like a Queen living in one. He had never been so sure in his life that this was the one. The one women he wanted to wake up next to everyday. The one women he want to marry. The women he'd want to have his kids and build a life together. The one women he would love unconditionally. He just hope Olivia feels the same way.
In the morning Edgar sent his usual 'Good morning beautiful, it's date night! I will pick you up from your apartment or the office whichever one you're at around 5:00 if that's too early for you I can do later? Also bring some extra clothes just Incas we run into that issue with the weather and things it's supposed to get bad tonight but I'll try to have you home before it gets too bad.'
Olivia was just waking up when she saw his text she was confused at first, because of the early morning brain function was low. But then she once she finally had woken all the way up, there was a huge smile on her face. She couldn't contain it, she has some really strong feelings about him that she was ready to let loose but was too scared. Edgar was so open with her about his feelings but shouldn't do the same. Because it was so hard for her to trust people because her heart had been broken so many times.
'Okay sounds great! Can't wait to see what you have planned." She replied.
Olivia got up and woke Noah up.
"Noah it's time to get up." She said as she ruffled his hair.
"Good morning mama!"
"Hi baby. We gotta get ready for our day. What's for breakfast this morning?"
"Pancakes!"
"That's exactly what I wanted." Then there was a knock at the door.
"Did you invite someone over?" Olivia said.
"No, you did!"
"I don't think so. I'm gonna go see, you get ready." And with that Olivia and Noah walked out of his room. Olivia walked up to the door and there was a package. It wasn't a real problem package from UPS or FedEX it just had a sticky note that said 'Open as soon as you see this.' She didn't know what to expect when she opened the box but she picked it up and walked into the apartment. She sat down on her sofa and opened the box a little nervously, but then she saw two dark blue, almost purple velvet boxes. One was long and skinny the other one was short and thick.
She opened the long and skinny one first and saw a beautiful diamond necklace. It was probably the most beautiful piece of jewelry she had ever had. Then she quickly grabbed for the other box and saw the matching earrings. She was in shock, but she knew exactly where they came from... Edgar. There was a note at the bottom that said
"Good morning beautiful! Here's a little gift for tonight that I thought you would like to wear. You dint have to if you don't want to I just thought it'd be a nice gesture. I couldn't stay because I knew I would get caught up in you and never want to leave. And Noah wouldn't want me to go so I just left it at your door as a surprise." It was signed. "Can't wait to have the most stunning person with me tonight, Edgar G."
Just as she finished reading the note Noah had ran out to her and asked "who was at the- woah!" Then he saw the jewelry. "Who gave that to you it's so cool, it's girly but it's so cool and shiny." He said giggling.
"I know right. But Edgar gave it to me." She smiled.
"Wait! Edgar was here and you didn't tell me! And he didn't want to see me! Wow!" He said jokingly but with seriousness that Olivia could detect.
"No, honey. He just dropped it off at the door. Plus don't you think he would want to see you. He likes seeing you more than he likes seeing me." She said playing with the child.
"Well that makes sense. Is that for your date with him tonight?"
"Yes."
"Are you excited for tonight because I am. I get to have a sleepover and you get to see Edgar what could be better than that."
"Yes I am excited."
"Where are you guys going?"
"Ya know Noah I really don't know. Edgar is being mean and won't tell me. Maybe you could find out from him later when he comes by?"
"Yeah but then I wouldn't tell you because then the surprise would be ruined."
"Well when you put it that way. I guess I'll have to find out later." Olivia looked at her watch it was nearing 7:15 and she was showered, dressed, and there was no breakfast for Noah.
"I got to go get ready how about you get your backpack and your shoes. Make sure you have everything and put it by the door and you can have some tv time this morning?" Noah didn't even reply he just jumped up and was squealing."
She hopped in the shower and was thinking what she should pair with her new jewelry set. Dark would be the way to go but she would have to find her a black dress. She got out the shower and found what she was wearing for work then found her dress for tonight. Grabbed her makeup and perfume that Edgar likes so much. Put it in her purse by the door and got Noah some food. And they were on their to school and work.
Olivia walked in the precinct and was greeted by a case it was going to be a long one but she promised that she would go out with him tonight since she pushed him off the first time.
Time went by fast and Olivia was no where near ready when Fin knocked at the door and said "you're boyfriend's here."
Olivia rolled her eyes at his statement and then it hit her that she wasn't ready she told fin to take home somewhere and distract home for 15 minutes. He nodded and took Edgar to the bullpen and Olivia snuck out to the bathroom got dress and put her heels on but then she forgot the jewelry and perfume in her office so she ran back in without being seen and she was no ready she just needed help zipping up and with the necklace. She texted Fin and said "all clear" with a thumbs up. She heard a knock and said "come in."
She saw Edgar and he looked red carpet ready. With a nice simple black suit and tie with dark red loafers. He look amazing. Edgar could say the same about Olivia. She looked stunning. He saw that she was wear the jewelry and was kind of hurt by it but then spoke up.
"Wow... you look absolutely stunning." He said still in awe of her beauty.
"Thank you. You look amazing and handsome."
"Here you go." He handed her some flowers. "Are you ready to go?"
"Actually I need some help. Can you zip me up first?" She stood up and walked to him.
"Sure!" He zipped her up. It was almost like they were in a slow motion shot. He turned her around and held her by the hips and looked at her and said "I'm so excited for tonight and I think you're gonna have a lot of fun."
"Me too. But first..." she slipped out of his arms and grabbed the necklace and continued "I need you to put this on for me." She lifted her hair "I thought you didn't want to wear it when I saw you didn't have it on."
He clipped it and she said "Why wouldn't I it's beautiful but you didn't have to it had to cost a ton."
"Anything for you."
They continued light conversation as Olivia put the earrings on and grabbed her purse and coat which Edgar helped her put on. "Are you ready now? We have quite a drive."
"Lead the way. I follow you." He opened the door and Rollins and Kat awed at the couple and Fin said "I'll kick your ass if she tells me the date was horrible. Even though I like you." The couple laughed and then exited. Olivia knew Edgar had a nice car; a Porsche. But the car he was in today was very elegant and it was a beautiful SUV it was a 2019 Jaguar F-Pace matte black.
"Wow your car is beautiful."
"Not as beautiful as you." He said as he opened her door. He went around and hopped in the truck himself and said "it's gonna be a little while before we get there so you'll probably want to take your coat off. Just throw it in the back seat. And you can be DJ." He said meaning she could enter her phone into the Bluetooth log in he truck. And play whatever music she likes. And they were off to their first destination.
"So how have you been?" Edgar asked.
"Mhmm I can't complain. Noah is doing better and is almost completely healed." Edgar laughed and shook his head. "I think you missed the question. I asked 'how have YOU been?' Even though I'm glad Noah is doing well this is your night... out night to just let go of everything. So again, Olivia, how have you been?"
"I can't say I've been great but right now I'm pretty good. I'd be even better if I knew where we were going..." pushing him to tell her.
"I can't tell you that but we have two stops."
"Fine."
Conversation went on for a while until the got to the first spot it was a store in queens. He helped her out and they walked in. It was a very high end luxury type store with all kinds of brands.
"Why are we here?"
"This is a special day and I want you to get the most out of it as possible. So you see something you like tell me and you shall receive. But we have to leave by 7:15 to make it to destination number two so that leaves you an hour and fifteen minutes to go crazy."
"I can't let you do that. I don't want anything." She pleaded.
"Sure you don't because I didn't see those magazines on the table with things you wanted lightly circled. Okay." He said sarcastically. She complied and went it to the store.
She went through and she needed a new wallet and saw one that she liked and asked the worker for one and they took it to the front desk so she would have to hold it while shopping. Then she saw a beautiful dress the was cream with one green stripe and one red stripe going through a bow on the shoulder. They had her size She looked at the price tag and instantly put it back in the rack. Edgar picked it back up it was a mark down price of 215 so he decided to get it.
"What are you doing?"
"You obviously liked that dress so I'm getting it for you."
"No you're not it's too much for a dress I'd only pay that for some shoes."
"I'm getting it. End of discussion." Olivia rolled her eyes and said "fine."
They kept looking and Olivia didn't see much that she wanted or that fit her. But she found a perfume the both she and Edgar liked better than his favorite. But that was it. Edgar saw a wallet he like for himself and picked it up and Olivia said "let me pay for that."
"No. It's your night I'm paying for everything."
"Then I don't want anything."
"Why not? Because I'm being a gentleman and playing for it for you?
"No because you won't let me treat you to anything. If I don't pay for the wallet... nothing for me then."
"You're giving me an ultimatum over a wallet... fine. Here." He gave her the wallet and she whispered in his ear. "I always get what I want." They went to pay then left to go to the actual date. Which was an hour away.
About thirty minutes into the drive Olivia was getting antsy waiting to see where they were going. Edgar was just ready to get the night started.
Time passed and they were finally there it was Eleven Madison Park. A gorgeous restaurant in New York City. Olivia never even heard of this place. Edgar gave his keys to valet and opened Olivia's door and linked his arm with hers. As soon as you walk in you see a beautiful chandelier and a dance floor. Edgar went up to the desk. "Reservations for Goodwin."
"Yes here you are down for 8:00. Follow me right this way."
"Here's your table enjoy!"
Edgar looked at Olivia and she was looking around she saw a buffet and the dance floor. "Do you like it?"
"Yes I love it. I'm just soaking it all in. Thank you again."
"Anything for my girl." He said with a wink.
They went up to the buffet and made a salad and once they got back they were greeted by their waitress. They ordered lobster risotto and scallops for an appetizer. And then for their entrees Olivia got pan seared halibut and Edgar got the Beef Wellington . The waiter walked away.
"You honestly didn't have to do all of this. A simple walk around that'll would have been perfect. But this is a dream."
"I wanted this night to special it's our first date of many I hope if you let me stick around. I want this to be memorable."
"Well thank you. How has work been ever since you got back I know I held you back a bit with the whole do incident."
"I chose to stay with you and I would do it all over again. But work it's been hectic this past week but not too bad."
"That's good I'm just glad I was able to come out today. I promise to come today because I messed up first attempt."
"It's alright we're here now let's live in the moment." Their appetizers came and not to far after their entrees. Then Edgar stood up after they finished eating and put his hand out and asked her to come and dance with her. It was a slow song it was You and I by John legend.

Olivia was feeling a bit emotional but would show it. It was all just so perfect. He was perfect.

Edgar could see the fight within her with her emotions. He wish she would just trust him and let go but that would take time. The lyrics to this song, word for word was exactly how he felt about Olivia.

The other dancers on the floor were moving back around the dance floor watch the couple dance away. They were a beautiful couple.

Edgar had started singing along with the song. Olivia was shocked. She didn't that he could sing. His voice was so soft and it made her body feel some type of way.

Edgar got more into the dance and spun Olivia out and pulled her back in.

They release for some air. And Edgar said "nobody in the world but you and I... look around." She hadn't notice that they were the only people in the floor. And then she kissed him again.
