Kae Membrana: the bugs are mostly a mystery, but the real truth about them comes out in this chapter!

And so, the suffering continues lol. Enjoy~

When he woke up, he was indeed in the news. Hawks was already up, made toast and Luffy was irritated to see he ate the last of the jam. He put it on the list on the fridge. He pointed at the TV that covered the train rescue, many shots not from the same camera. One was a video shot from the train camera that showed him easily walking up behind the villain and knocking him out before zip tying his hands.

"When he was informed that the villain had planted a bomb, in the seconds he was still unconscious, Luffy diffused the bomb." Then there was footage from someone in the train car, seeing him hooked to the side, looking perfectly calm as his arms worked out of sight to diffuse the bomb. He tongue was sticking out just a little before it showed him flying back to the other side of the train and opening the door again. Video of him, shaky though it was, showed him quickly and efficiently immobilizing the villain.

Then there was someone else's phone, who held it very wobbly, showing him interacting with all of the scared children before he departed. "Well, at least it's for something good, I guess," Luffy sighed, flopping on the couch with his cheerios. "I haven't fucked up yet."

Hawks nodded, agreeing that it was good he was in the news for good things. "But you know, unlike celebrities or political figures, heroes aren't in the news much for negative events, unless it got somebody killed or completely failed. People know that heroes work for the safety of the public. They feel guilty if they bad mouth them.

"Unless you're truly a dislikable hero. Then you get dragged as often as possible."

"Like Endeavor?" Hawks nodded. "If anyone found out how he treated his family, he'd be in the dumps forever and would never be number one again. I'm not going to tell anyone, let alone the press. Plus, it's Todoroki's life, nobody should know what he doesn't want them to," Luffy said easily. He tried to not guilt Hawks on liking an abuser since he looked up to him as a hero and not as a person.

"But they do drag UA a lot," Luffy said. "After the USJ incident it was bad but after the summer camp, it got even worse. People are still dragging them months later."

Hawks nodded, saying that UA was prestigious. "Many don't like it for the difficulty it takes to get in, and how it's seemingly on a pedestal above other schools. That annoys a lot of people." When Luffy started to ask how he felt, Hawks said he was perfectly fine and wished Luffy would stop worrying about him. "My wings aren't glowing anymore. Based on the fact you drank it a couple months ago and the effects haven't stopped working, I'm starting to think it might be permanent."

"The miracle slugs."

"Yes! That's what we're going to call them now. Nice." Merry jumped on Hawks' lap and curled up.

"You're trapped now, I'll go get the mail," Luffy said and left to go downstairs and get the mail. More bills, more messages begging Hawks to buy their products or subscribe to their magazines, which would never happen. The ones they used to be subscribed to were under Luffy, back when he had that gaming phase for a couple months that fizzled away.

And another one of the shady letters addressed to him. He sighed and opened it. It was a photo of Ace, looking pissed, tied up and gagged. Luffy caught on to the evidence of Photoshop immediately. They weren't even good at it. Luffy looked at his watch. Ace should be awake by then but not at work. He went upstairs and called him.

He didn't answer, but after four calls, he did. "Luffy? What's wrong, are you okay?"

"Yeah, I was going to ask you that. I got a photo of you tied to a chair and gagged as a bribe to go somewhere," he said in his room after dumping the mail on the bar counter. "So, are you bound and gagged somewhere?"

"No, I was taking a shower. Who would send you that?" he asked in disbelief.

Luffy hadn't told him about their parents contacting him, but he didn't know if these were the same people. The letter was typed, not handwritten. So Ace didn't need to know yet, or if ever. "Not sure. I've been getting sketchy letters but that was taken care of. Just wanted to make sure you were okay. Sorry for interrupting your shower."

"Weird. But, yeah, I'm completely fine. Thanks for calling and not rushing off. Hawks taught you well." Luffy smiled and agreed that was true. He hung up and walked to the couch.

"Want to see a terribly photoshopped threat?" he asked, and put the "photo" on the coffee table. "A messy ulimatem. Ace is fine at home. He was showering when I called. Do you know if they were ever caught?"

Hawks leaned back and he nodded. "They were arrested and found guilty immediately. I sent the photos of your scars after you gave me permission, and those proved they were lying, as well as contacting others who said you disappeared one day. This is someone else."

He looked at the back. "There's no return address," Hawks said in slight confusion. "What's the point of this other than to bait you to come save them? Or are they trying mind games, trying to make you panicked enough? Maybe it's someone who doesn't like your progress and so wants you to be stressed enough to make a screw up. It could be a prankster, but nobody of the general public knows of your relationship with Ace. They would see him as just a friend who visited sometimes. Whoever it is probably purposely made it this bad. You can hire someone to photoshop something like this," Hawks rambled.

"What? I used to play mind games for a living," Hawks responded, a rare mention of his life up until right before he took Luffy in when he officially broke with the Hero Public Safety Commission. He never liked talking about it. He'd maybe mentioned it two - or now three - times for as long as Luffy could remember.

Luffy said, "I don't get why they would make it look this bad."

"Maybe to get you to not take whoever it is seriously. I think you should take this seriously. Better to be safe than sorry," Hawks added. "Keep an eye out for anybody following you on patrols or on your way to school."

Luffy knew nobody could get him on his way to school unless they could fly at 300 mph. That was his fastest he could go if he tried hard enough. He was sure it'd be fine.

"Aizawa-sensei, I wanted to let you know I'll be out on Wednesday due to the quirk surgery I have to get every few months," Luffy said, handing his teacher the doctor's note. He was used to this, as it had happened multiple times over the school year. He signed the papers as being just fine with it, and gave Luffy the homework to make up ahead of time.

"You really have to get surgery every two months?" Jiro asked at lunch. Luffy nodded, saying it was fine, it went smoothly every time. "Still, I'd be worried about being under anesthesia like that so often."

Luffy swallowed his food and said, "The quirk suppressants are really the worst thing about it. They're uncomfortable, my wings get heavy and I can't heal well." The others frowned, saying it sounded like a nightmare. "That's why you have to be super, super high up to get access to them. I don't know or like how the League had gotten them. That was never solved, I don't think they admitted to where they got it."

School had been static. The last half of the year was a lot calmer than the rest, especially before summer started. Of course, summer with the camp was the worst for everyone, but school wise, it was still busy. They were coming closer to the end of the year. What a nightmare year it had been for Luffy.

He didn't think about it a lot anymore. Not even the creepy letters he was getting weekly now. They were just that: creepy. Unsettling photos that were easily found as being fake. No return address. Hawks and the agency were looking into it, trying to get fingerprints off of the cards, but with no luck.

When Hawks come home, he looked a bit worried, concerned. Luffy asked what was wrong. Maybe something had happened at work. "I was thinking about the slugs. I barely touched them and the effects lasted maybe an hour. Yes, I touched and didn't drink it, but I am a bit worried about you. We… don't know how long it will last, if it's permanent. I'm getting worried about you flying with your healed wings. A hit to the head could be very dangerous."

Luffy's face went pale and he grabbed his wings, eyes wide in horror. How had he not thought about it being temporary? He was so stupid! If they disappeared… it would be devastating. Hawks didn't know what to say to calm him, there was nothing to say. "You think it's temporary?" Luffy asked. "What if I drink it regularly?"

Hawks said that he didn't think that was a good idea. They still didn't know what it was. "But, my wings," Luffy replied. "What if they disappear again even if I don't fall?" The other had no reassurances; Hawks never lied.

Luffy clenched his teeth, balling his fists. If the effects of the water did wear off, then his super regeneration would go away, as would his glowing wings. And possibly his wings as well. They might fall off or disappear in any other way. He'd pull them in and they'd just never come back out again.

Hawks put his hand on Luffy's shoulder as a way to ground him. It didn't help much. He looked at the vent that had the canteen in it, and said he was going to bed, even though it was only 8:00. Hawks said okay, and wished him goodnight. He had surgery in the morning, he already ate and had to fast.

He heard the window open and close and the faint noises of the vent on the roof being opened. He was worried Luffy would drink more. Would he? Maybe it was good Hawks was moving it, hiding it. Then Luffy wouldn't have a panic attack and impulsively drink some. They really still knew nothing about it, other than it was harmless and helped Luffy out.

Maybe they should have it tested to make sure it was safe to drink again. He did eventually fall asleep, and was woken early by Hawks for him to get dressed and head to the quirk hospital for his regular surgery. He dressed and brushed his teeth in a trance, worrying about his wings. Maybe the doctor would say something about them being perfectly fine. Hopefully.

So, when he got to the hospital, he was for once excited for the surgery. Well, excited to be told his quirks were just fine. Hawks offered to stay this time since it shouldn't take long. And probably also because he knew this time might be different due to the miracle slug water that regrew his wings.

Hawks waited in the waiting room while Luffy took the quirk suppressant like usual and got ready to go under the knife. Only he started to feel really sick once his quirks faded. He started to breathe quickly, and his chest hurt. "Dr. Ito," he called. The doctor came back and saw Luffy was suddenly very sweaty, sweaty everywhere and drenching his clothes "I don't feel good," he stated unnecessarily. "My chest hurts."

Dr. Ito called paramedics to come take Luffy immediately. He coughed up pink liquid, and was getting really scared. "What's wrong with me?" he asked as he was put on a gurney.

"That's why you're going to the hospital," Dr. Ito said. "I don't know what caused this." Hawks was shouting questions when Luffy was rolled out on a gurney, pale and sweaty. He got in the ambulance with his doctor, who explained what happened to the paramedics. "Once his quirk was suppressed, he started to show signs of heart failure." Luffy had passed out by now, so he didn't hear this.

"Heart failure? But he was just fine!" Hawks said in disbelief, unable to comprehend this. She pointed out it was once his regenerative power went away that he got sick. "So… he could have been sick this whole time?" Dr. Ito nodded.

Luffy woke up on the way there, after the conversation. He was already feeling better. He wasn't sweaty anymore. Usually he'd take two consecutive doses of quirk suppressants, but he'd only taken one this time. "What's wrong with me? I felt fine before," he said, his breath still a little short. He still felt sick, and uncomfortable. Why?

"That's why we're at the hospital," Hawks said and got out for Luffy to be wheeled to the emergency room, where he was seen immediately, and had his blood taken and temperature taken. 101.2. Not terrible but also worse than usual. He was red in the face but pale everywhere else. He looked like he had a very bad cold.

And by the time blood results had come back and he was asked a lot of questions and given oxygen, he felt perfectly fine. Once his quirks had come back. His regenerative quirk chased away the sickness.

But that was alarming. Was he sick already, and his quirk was keeping the symptoms away? The doctor looked very concerned as he looked at the result of the blood work. The needle point was already gone and Luffy was sitting up stubbornly even when Hawks kept telling him to lay back down.

"What's wrong?"

"Luffy, have you eaten anything that might be contaminated by bacteria?" Luffy and Hawks shared a glance, where Hawks minutely nodded. They needed to tell the doctor. Luffy was starting to think he should have gone to the doctor, but he and Hawks had both had their judgement clouded by Luffy's wings growing back.

"I found a cave, and I fell and swallowed some of the cave water. I tasted like regular water, and I felt fine. My quirks were boosted and I healed a couple bad injuries. I felt fine, I didn't think anything of it," Luffy explained honestly.

The doctor looked shocked but not angry. Then he sighed. "Your boost includes regenerative power as well, correct?" Luffy nodded slowly. "You have an alarmingly large amount of bacteria in your blood. Your quirk most likely boosted in response to this illness you have. I can understand why you would think it had cured you, but it's only forced your quirks to work harder. That's my hypothesis, but I stand by it. Do you know anything else about this water?"

Luffy couldn't think, couldn't speak, but Hawks answered for him.

"The cave is very deep, and in the furthest part there are bioluminescent insects. The water may have been contaminated by something they might give off, but we never noticed anything coming down the cave from it. The water is far from the insects."

The doctor looked troubled. "I can see why you did not come for help, but it was a foolish thing to do." Hawks shrunk down, Luffy was still in shock.

"I touched one of them and got a small boost, but it's gone now. All it did was make me a little nauseous for a couple hours, but I'm back to normal and my quirk has returned to its normal state," Hawks added honestly.

"I'm doing bloodwork on you as well," the doctor said. Hawks was extremely worried as well, but when the bloodwork came back, he was told his blood was clean and perfectly healthy. "This means that the infection may fade. But your reaction to it was much more severe than Hawks-san's."

Luffy asked if his wings would die, voice cold and quiet. "I'm not sure," Dr. Crocus replied. "But the sooner this runs out, the better. We don't want complications. If your quirk sped up in spite of this liquid you drank, then it may go back to normal once it's passed out of your bloodstream. I can't prove that Hawks-san had what you have, since his blood is clean. Was there any other similarities?"

"Both of our wings glowed in the dark," Hawks answered immediately. "We both got this on accident. Luffy fell and got it in his mouth on accident, I touched one of the bugs. We kept it a secret because we thought it was a quirk enhancing miracle bug. We thought if it got out, villains would attempt to get it," he explained.

Dr. Crocus sat down. "In a societal way, that was the right thing to do. In the medical way, it was beyond foolish," he scolded, making both Luffy and Hawks look embarrassed and ashamed. "I don't recognize the type of infection in the blood specifically, but it is similar to other forms of bacteria. There is treatment for it. And you will need to take actions to cleanse your blood. The faster the sickness goes away, the better. When did this happen?" Hawks gave the date. It had been nearly two months.

"Based on the amount of bacteria in your blood, and how fast your regenerative quirk works, if all goes well, it should be out of your blood in another month."

Luffy said, "But I have to get surgery every two months that requires quirk suppressants. If I lose my quirk to those, will this thing make me sick? What if I only take half of the quirk suppressant? Have it go by quicker, it's a fast surgery." His eyes were wide. Either way, he would suffer.

How foolish of him, to think something wonderful would happen to him. It had been horrible from the start. A byproduct of something deadly in his body. It only started boosting his quirks to fight off this thing. He hated those bugs now, no matter how pretty they were. But then again, they gave him his wings back. Could he really hate that?

"For surgery, you'd need your regenerative quirk to be ceased fully. You could die by doing that. Is there any way you can avoid this surgery?" Luffy said he didn't know. Hawks got on the phone with the quirk doctor immediately. He asked if Luffy's quirks nerves needed to be removed immediately.

When he got off the phone, Luffy was watching him with wide eyes. "She said that they weren't swollen as bad as usual, but that could change. You have to get over this illness as soon as possible." Luffy's face fell. Misery overtook him again. For his own sake, he had to make himself back to normal faster.

"Is there a way to check for that stuff in my wings?" Luffy asked. "To see if they'll go away, too?"

"The paramedics told me that the base of your wings were the only part not sweaty and red. I'm not saying this or that about it." Just not to get his hopes up or make himself miserable about his wings. He had to accept that things might go that way. Hawks hesitantly asked if Luffy could have gotten better if they came in sooner. "No. I can't get this out on my own now, I wouldn't have been able to months ago. I don't think anyone could have with these circumstances.

"But if anything like this happens again - which I hope won't - then come in immediately. You understand?" he asked both of them. They nodded like little kids being scolded by a parent, and looked that way, too. An unseen side of Hawks by most. He was cocky, but he also knew when to take something seriously, even if it took a fair bit to make him think he should be serious.

"For now, I will have diet plans and supplements to help cleanse your blood on your own. Fight from the outside as your quirk fights from the inside." He gave Hawks a list of foods that he handed to Luffy to read through. Much of this food he hated, but there had to be recipes to make them taste good.

Luffy asked, unable to help himself, absolutely desperate, "If it gets on my skin, would it be bad? What if I put it on my wings or the base, so they'd stay there for sure, even when the regeneration healed?" he asked, face desperate and eyes wide.

The doctor took pity on him with a sad face. "I don't want you touching that liquid ever again. Dump it down the drain if you have to. And I think nobody else should go down into that cave. Being damp and closed off, air might be stagnant. Might carry something in the air." Luffy remembered his wings reacting to being around the bugs. Meaning there was something in the air. "I'm sorry. I truly hope everything works out.

"You must make priorities, Luffy. Do you want your wings, or do you want to live?" he asked quietly. Luffy bit his lower lip, understanding. He was discharged and they were to go to the pharmacy to get the pills.

Hawks put his hand on his shoulder, and reluctantly suggested that he fly with his other wings, just for safety now that they know things might end up bad. Luffy knew it was the correct thing to do, and Hawks put his visor back on so he slowly flew to the pharmacy and picked up the pills before going home.

When they got home, Luffy sat on the couch and pulled his knees up. "More health problems. I'm still going to school."

"I think that's a good idea, too. If you feel like your quirks will go out of control, isolate yourself." Luffy nodded. But then wondered if he'd even be allowed back. "The back of your neck doesn't hurt, right?" He shook his head. "Then there's no reason for you to be blocked if you have no symptoms. I'm so sorry. I finally thought something wonderful happened, after all of the shit you've been through and suffered from."

Luffy replied, "The universe hates me. It's that simple." Hawks didn't respond, not wanting to agree but also not being able to dispute it. It did indeed seem that way. He stood up and went to get his computer to look for good recipes for the disgusting foods. Hawks offered to go pick up the ingredients, which Luffy was grateful for.

He did make food with the recommended ingredients. Each bite felt like he was purposely sawing off his wings.

"I thought you had surgery and were gone to recover," Uraraka said the moment he walked in through the door, looking dazed. Him not answering drew attention. "Luffy?"

"Huh?"

"About your surgery...?"

Luffy said, "Oh. It was canceled. I can't be on the quirk suppressants or I might die.'' The class looked at him and Kaminari said that he knew the quirk suppressants were bad but not that bad. They thought it was a joke, and it sounded like one. Especially when he said it so simply. But his face remained flat.

"I have a sickness and my regenerative quirk is the only thing keeping me from having heart failure. That's why I got a boost in everything. Cause it's fighting off the illness. Once the illness is gone, I will probably lose what healed again," he explained in detail and sat down.

Everyone was silent, in shock and horror or maybe pity and sympathy. "We're so sorry," Kirishima said.

"Nothing ends up going my way in the end. I don't know why I thought this would be any different. I'll lose my wings that grew back due to the boost I had. It'll go back to how it had been," Luffy replied. "You don't need to pity me, I already feel pretty bad."

Luffy had messaged Todoroki, but then asked him not to message back and that he just didn't have the energy to reply. He hadn't, and Luffy was thankful he wasn't offended or upset. The class was subdued, no one knowing what to say. The day was quiet, and Luffy didn't say a thing, didn't answer any questions, ask any questions. He was trapped in his own head.

He started to feel like his feathers were falling off even when his wings were out. While he wanted them out all the time, he was also afraid that they just wouldn't be there once he tried to take them out. He was stuck in his own head, swirling with fear and doubt and self-hatred. And it lasted like that the rest of the week.

Hawks had him patrol with him, trying to distract him. Hawks had already extensively trained him in stress management, but this was off the charts stressed. Stressed he's lose control, stressed he'd just up and die, stressed his wings would break if he flew with them, stressed he'd fall behind in class, stressed about the weird letters. Stressed and scared.

He felt bad because Hawks was clearly very upset, too, by Luffy's behavior and demeanor. He'd gotten really fed up with Luffy apologizing about finding the cave, but couldn't bring himself to get angry. Luffy wasn't acting like a funny hero, he was acting his age. He was acting how a 15 year old should act with facing these scary unknowns.

When Luffy had been asked for an autograph by a little girl and his smile was more like a pained grimace that made the girl cry, Luffy had been removed from the public eye by Hawks. He did not need speculation or suspicion about his behavior during this troubling time.

Luffy told Hawks that he had to say something about everybody being concerned over him. He was getting so many messages on sites that weren't his personal accounts. Everybody seemed worried, and with him only going on night jobs without his glowing wings, it seemed like he had dropped off the face of the earth.

So, he asked Hawks to let out a statement that Luffy had been having health problems and would not be going on patrols or interacting with fans at this time. He said it smoothly, without a hint of worry in his voice. He was good at deception if he had to be.

Everyone was worried, but when he read news articles or forums, because he just couldn't help himself, nobody was speculating. And it seemed that people were realizing Luffy was a kid. Strong, but still young. Tokoyami took his place in the patrols, but he wasn't catching on like Luffy had. Tokoyami wasn't funny or especially good with kids.

He also wasn't flashy, seeming like just another hero on the street. He had complained to this with Luffy one day when they were practicing flying. Luffy gave a broken smile and said he wished he could trade spots at the moment. "I can't even leave the house normally without people asking what's wrong."

-x-

A week after he was diagnosed with the latest unlucky thing, he was in class when the back of his neck started to hurt. He pulled out his wings and stumbled out the window, unable to fly and hitting the ground hard, though the broken bone healed over in a second. He tried crawling away as he held in cries of pain and fear and despair.

"Luffy! What are you doing?!" All Might said, seeing him.

"GET AWAY! DON'T TOUCH ME!" he screamed, accidentally using Present Mic's voice and making All Might cover his ears. He managed to stand up and ran, falling when his arm caught on fire and then he grew another, ripping out of his side, making him hold in a scream, the wounds healed over, leaving no blood, but that didn't mean it wasn't agonizing for his body to go out of control.

He was suddenly in Hawks' body, crawling slowly, Hawks' scarred hands showing him he wasn't in his body anymore. He was out in the open on the grass. Not around others but nowhere he could start a fire. He started floating with Uraraka's power and grabbed onto the ground as electricity sparked around him.

Trying not to scream was the best. People were gathered and Midnight was running over, despite the risk, and used her quirk to gas him and knock him out. It changed nothing, his body and powers continued to go out of control. His brain wasn't in control, his quirks were. It didn't matter if he was asleep.

Midnight ran back as Luffy started exploding. He swore, awake instantly despite the gas, and was able to create a clone, who then trapped the original Luffy into a bead with Mr. Compress's quirk, effectively stopping his rampage. As long as nothing happened to the bead, he'd be okay.

He could see huge people looking down at him as he laid on his back and tried to get control of himself, breathing heavily. Luffy finally got under control and used his finger as a pen to write on the glass inside of the ball. Get Hawks.

Luffy's bead was picked up by Aizawa and the teacher ran inside. Nobody and nothing had been damaged. Good, good. But everyone saw him go out of control. He hoped nobody had been filming, but that was wishful thinking. He knew he'd go home with tons of articles talking about how he was uncontrollable, a liability to everybody.

But, once he felt calm enough and was waiting for Hawks, he made a clone of himself outside of the bead, who did not have the capacity to have all of his quirks. He made sure it only had the power to restrain and let Luffy go.

"Is anybody hurt?" the clone Luffy asked. All Might was the one holding him, looking especially troubled. "This clone doesn't have enough power to go out of control. It's safe." Luffy was speaking through the clone like it was another part of him. He hadn't tried this, but when the clone took hold of Luffy in the bead, he could see and hear just fine.

"Nobody is hurt and nothing was damaged. Hawks is on his way. He said to leave you be but we are your teachers and won't leave you alone," All Might insisted. "How did this happen?" he asked in shock.

Clone Luffy said, "My quirk isn't ideal. If I see too many, the quirk nerves press against each other and cause me to lose control. I usually have surgery every two months to get rid of some of them. I can't be on quirk suppressants or I could die, so I also can't have the surgery without the quirk suppressants. Either way, it sucks," he explained. Then Hawks was there.

"Luffy!" he said in panic and ran over.

"I'm a clone," Clone Luffy said and held up the bead, showing regular Luffy sadly waving to him. He took the bead, looking so sad. Luffy wrote he was sorry with his pen finger.

"It is not your fault. None of this is your fault. Nobody got hurt, right?" All Might shook his head. "Was anybody filming?" he asked slowly.

All Might was honest and said he wasn't sure. They were kids with cameras at all times. What wasn't ever filmed? "But if we catch any of it online, they will be expelled for breaking the law about posting heroes in training online using their quirks without a costume. A heavy penalty to pay," he assured him.

Luffy had a blank stare on, looking at Hawks' hand beneath him. He knew he wasn't mad, but he should be. Luffy caused him so much stress all the time. Hawks said he caused joy more than stress. It was nice, but joy didn't affect the body or mind like stress does. He was sure Hawks was doing something important before coming to get him.

Nezu was there, and Hawks stood and talked about the illness Luffy had that caused a messy situation. "From what we've observed of this, Luffy is not safe here for the other students as he usually is. However, his clone here has no energy to go out of control. If it did, all we'd need was a punch and he'd be gone.

"If Luffy can keep himself in a bead like this, in person education is still safe. We want our students safe, but also able to go to school. He's already missed so much school that we want to do everything we can to make sure he doesn't miss anymore," Nezu explained. Luffy smiled, glad he was able to still go to school.

Hawks looked very uneasy. "We will keep him in the classroom with the windows locked at all times. He will be safe." Luffy felt like a helpless little kid. He knew that none of this was anything he did on purpose. It wasn't his fault that he had this quirk. He didn't drink the bug water on purpose, he didn't lose control on purpose.

His quirk was not a blessing, it was a curse. It had always been a curse. He wished he could just use the ones he wanted and not worry about all of the other ones. He wondered how much money had been spent on his medical costs alone.

"Thank you, I'll ask how he feels about returning later. Is there a way you accommodate for him to attend class online?" Hawks asked, sounding like a parent.

Nezu nodded, saying it was possible but ideally, he'd return to classes. Hawks thanked them and Clone Luffy disappeared, leaving Hawks to put Luffy in his pocket, where it was pitch black. The sound of him crying didn't leave the bead.
