Summary/disclaimer: Time for another chapter of Researcher Romance. Enjoy the 900-word chapter. I don't own Pokémon, Nintendo and a few others.

"Croak." Toxicroak stated to its owner as the traveling professor hummed.

"I'm glad you don't want to battle like Golem does." Jack muttered and tapped on the door. "Um… Hello! I'm here for the interview!?" Jack shouted before wincing at his own voice and the volume in it.

"I'll be a moment!" Jack heard which made Toxicroak chuckle. Jack turned to his Pokémon with a raised eyebrow.

"What do you find so funny?" Jack asked as he raised his eyebrows. "Least you help me much more." Jack put in before the door opened.

Jack blinked upon seeing who was at the door. The woman looked more like a model then a professor. Jack wanted to say something, but Toxicroak cut him off.

"Toxicroak." Toxicroak said with a chuckle thrown in. Jack was about to said something.

"Oh, I haven't seen a Toxicroak before!" The woman put in which made Jack chuckle and regain his composure.

"Really?" Jack questioned before turning back to the woman. "I thought they were a few in Galar. Oh, where are my manners? I'm Jack. You sent invitations and such for an interview?" Jack put in as he looked at Toxicroak.

"Oh, I'm Sonia!" Sonia said while pointing a teal nail tipped finger at herself. "I'm surprised someone came." Sonia said and blinked.

"Why?" Jack asked while sticking his hands in his pockets. "Did nobody want the position? I'm actually excited since I've never been to Galar before." Jack said before the Pokeball on his hip popped open.

"Golem!" Golem roared before Jack turned to his other Pokémon with shock.

"WHY ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR POKEBALL!? YOU ALWAYS WANT TO BATTLE PEOPLE!" Jack hissed before Sonia giggled to herself.

"Well, if you're here for the job?" Sonia asked before Jack and his Pokémon turned back to Sonia. "Then your hired. I didn't expect anyone to show up… That job request has been up for several months…" Sonia stated as she put a hand on her head.

"Ok then?" Jack questioned, expecting a harder process to get hired. "Uh, did you need me for something today or?" Jack started to say.

"Gol!" Golem roared which made Jack turn to Golem.

"Please ignore him." Jack said and crossed his arms. "He always wants to seek out trainers to battle. Toxicroak is the only Pokémon I have that doesn't do that… He's also the only other Pokémon I kinda have on hand." Jack stated while Golem turned to look at his owner.

"Reminds me of an old friend." Sonia put in before holding the door open. "Please come in. I'll see if I can scrounge up some work." Sonia said as Jack held up his Pokeball.

Golem vanished back into the Pokeball which Jack put on his hip. Toxicroak walked inside followed by his owner.

"Croak." Toxicroak stated which Jack rolled his eyes at. "Croak." Toxicroak put in as Sonia affectionately pat the poison type Pokémon on the head.

"Do you not own a Pokémon?" Jack asked as he walked inside and closed the door behind him.

He still marveled at how the orange haired woman was a professor. Her green shirt and boots looked fancy enough to be used by a fashion model. Then again? Not all professors wore clothes suited for research.

Jack didn't usually wear a lab coat outside of a lab due to how impractical and silly looking it made him appear.

"I do." Sonia put in and turned back to Jack. "I just retired from being a trainer…. Mostly." Sonia added which made Jack raise an eyebrow.

"Still enjoy Pokémon battles?" Jack asked before the Pokeball on his hip moved. "NO. We are not battling anyone yet. He's wanted to battle people ever since he evolved from Geodude." Jack added and sighed while cracking his fingers.

Jack hummed as Sonia giggled once more. Jack sighed and removed his hand from his belt.

"Yes, I do from time to time." Sonia put in as she smiled. "But I retired after becoming my grandmother's assistant. She retired and I stepped up to take her place. I'm sure its pretty strange to see a professor so young taking over, isn't it?" Sonia questioned which made Jack shrug.

"Nah, we all have to start somewhere." Jack said and rubbed at his temples. "I know I had to before I took over duties. It's not as easy as one might think." Jack said and hummed once more.

Sonia nodded before she turned back to walk around the lab. Jack followed behind her with Toxicroak slowly walking behind its owner in question. He cracked his fingers once more and started to look around the lab.

It would certainly interesting to work in Galar. Jack walked around the lab as Sonia watch her new assistant.

Sonia didn't know of the adventures the two professors would have.

Then again? Neither of them could read the future or predict what would come next.

Phew. Another chapter done! I apologize for this chapter being short. Next chapter I promise will be longer. Sonia and Jack are going to be bonding over adventures and Pokémon battles and such. Next chapter will be 1200 words and in 2-10 weeks or so. Until then, Lighting Wolf out!
