Chapter 38: Coming Home!
(Narrator POV)
Over Olivia's stay at the hospital Edgar had bought two baby carriers. And the Gang pulled a bunch of money together to buy things for the new babies since Olivia gave birth before her baby shower. But a very large generous sum of the money came from someone very special. La'Mai obviously knew where they had their spare key so she and everyone else spent countless hours at their house painting the animal mural on the wall, setting up furniture, folding little baby clothes. But Edgar and Olivia didn't know that. Which had Edgar very stressed, Olivia wasn't at all she was just in good spirits that her babies were finally here and that had all her focus. But Edgar was stressed, he hadn't been home in a week. He missed practice all week, luckily it was only pre season workouts. Olivia was discharged and they were on their way home with two baby boys! Karter and Westley Brooks Goodwin.
"I'm so happy to finally be out of that hospital!" Olivia said.
"You and me both. How are they doing back there?"
"Peaceful as they usually are." Over the course of the week Edgar and Olivia realized that the babies do not cry very much. And they sleep through the night. Very quiet babies. Which was such a blessing for both mom and dad.
"Look who's here!" He pointed out the window. To the small group of people holding a banner in their front lawn saying "welcome home!" As they pulled into the drive way. Everyone rushed inside except for Noah and Kevin who stayed out to help if need be. Edgar grabbed Karter's carrier and help Olivia out the car, while Kevin grabbed Westley, and Noah picked up all the bags in the car. Which all together weighed more that him. "Ugh guys a little help." Noah laughed. Olivia came over and took a bag since he insisted on carrying more bags than her.
"Hey guys!" Edgar whispered.
"Welcome little ones!" Morgan took Karter's carrier from Edgar. "Hey sexy mama!" Morgan greeted Liv.
"Hey everyone! I'm so glad to be home I just wanna collapse in bed right now."
"Well thanks to us you can! Follow me." Noah whispered very very quietly. And tip toed up the stairs.
"Noah honey, you don't have to be this quiet the babies won't wake up. But just be a little quiet." Olivia laughed. As Morgan, Christian, La'Mai, and Kevin followed them up the stairs. While the grandparents stayed with the twins. "Oh my- oh my Gosh! Guys!" She went and touched and looked at he completely furnished nursery just the way she pictured- all she could say was oh my gosh. Edgar walked in not to far behind, who didn't have the same reaction as his fiancé but was astonished at the work that his family had done for them the past week. "This is too much. We could never repay you guys!"
"This is us repaying you guys! You and Edgar constantly have payed for everything all the time. The first time I met you, when Edgar's insurance didn't fully cover his hospital fees from his accident you payed for that. When it should have been one of us. And then out big dinner you paid for. Our trip to Boston. And Edgar has always gave us money, even though we don't need it. You guys are so giving so we had to find a way to pay you back."
"Thank you!" Edgar hugged his sister. "This is honestly too much. You should have asked me for money. You shouldn't have done it all by y'all self."
"We didn't, the squad helped and your Dad gave a very generous amount too so much we had so much left over which is for you guys in your room." Christian added. "He said that they'll be back later this afternoon."
"Wait- how did y'all get in my house?" Edgar asked?"
"And how did you know this is how I wanted the nursery to be?"
"Well, it was all Noah." Edgar and Olivia turned around to him. Edgar picked him up.
"Was it really?" Edgar asked. Noah nodded.
"See I told them how to get into the house, where the spare key was, then I found mommy's iPad and logged into this app- I'd don't know the name but it's where she looked at baby rooms. And I showed them the one she like the most. She saved it. Then mom always goes on apps and adds a bunch of baby stuff into the cart but never actually buys it. Which is kind of weird but it helped a lot with shopping. Then I went to look for your iPad but you took it to the hospital so I found your laptop instead hoping to find the baby monitor you talked about all the time." He exaggerated the ended but not really. Edgar never shut up about the stupid high tech monitors. It drove Olivia and Noah insane.
"You did all that just for your little brothers, Noah?" Edgar asked.
"Yup, but also for you guys. I even chipped in all my money in my piggy bank."
"Noah you didn't have to do that." Olivia said.
"I know but I really wanted to. I love my brothers very much. So can you put me down so I can go see them- but first I have to tell you something really funny. So you see the walls, uncle Fin, uncle sonny, and uncle Kevin painted it. With none of the girls help!" Edgar allowed Noah to hop out his arms.
"Really!"
"Yeah they got in trouble one day, the girls got mad. So they made them do the walls, while they went shopping." He ran out the room downstairs to the babies. After talking for a little while upstairs everyone made it back down stairs. Olivia dams Edgar went in their bedroom while the rest congregated in the living room. They had lots of different things on their bed. Many gift cards to everywhere, bottle warmers, Edgar saw his touch screen baby monitor with a built in mic for when they got older. And a new Amazon home tablet. He read out these smart gadgets so that he could control the lights and temperature around the house. Olivia had some girly items to help her still feel comfortable after child birth. Lots of pjs and hygiene items. Then there was an envelope. It read:
'Hey Edgar and Olivia, the money in this envelopes for you guys and you guys only. You cannot use this money on the children whatsoever. I know it will be hard not to because Olivia will feel the need to by every little baby item she sees. But you guys have to spoil yourselves sometimes. Even with twins you can still splurge on yourself every once and a while. And don't worry we didn't forget about Noah he's already covered and happy. And the other envelope is extra for emergencies or whatever you want. See you tonight!' Signed Don and Eileen.
"They are right no spending this on the babies. This was very nice of them. Does it say how much money it is?"
"4000!"
"Say what?" Edgar was in complete shock.
"4000, so what is in the other one that was 'extra'?" Edgar tore it open.
"1500! We can't take this!"
"I know but he won't take it back. I guarantee you that." Then one of the babies cried.
"Westley!" They said simultaneously. That's one distinction they had made so far. Because they cry differently. The quickly exited the room. "What time is it?" She asked Edgar.
"1:30."
"Feeding time."
"I'll get the blanket and towel, you get the baby." For being first time newborn parents Edgar and Olivia had it down. Working like a well oiled machine. Olivia joined them on the couch and just like that his crying was no more. They both knew that as soon as west was done eating, Karter would be hungry as well. So Edgar will hold the opposite baby and burp them during that time.
"You guys have this thing down pretty well."
Dianne complimented them.
"Yeah we had to figure out something fast, a good system that works for us being so new to all of it."
"Well it's working." Ulrich said very impressed.
"But the one thing Edgar doesn't do, which he need to learn to- diapers. He. Any put a diaper on correctly for his life."
"Okay I'm learning. You had a baby. Ive never even changed AJ and Sasha! Whenever they were here, they were in garbage bags. I'm not kidding either."
"He's not I came back from Syracuse to find my kids in nothing but a trash bag."
"And they ended up perfectly fine." After they fed and burped both babies Edgar and Olivia needed some sleep. Everyone looked after them for a while, Noah got to know them better. Don and Eileen made their way over and talked for a while. Before Edgar and Olivia took on their first night alone with the twins at home.
