(The night is dark, and snow gently sprinkles across the silent streets. In his heavy coat, Lars walks down a street and passes two shady characters obviously in the middle of a drug deal. The pills, however, are seen as light blue. Lars only gives it a glance before looking away to mind his own business. He runs up a stoop, knocks on the door 4 loud times, and rings the doorbell 9. After a short time, a brute opens the door and points a shotgun to his face.)
Lars: Pretzel.
(The brute cocks the shotgun and Lars leans neck closer to the barrel.)
Lars: Brezel.
(She grabs him by the collar and yanks him inside. The sound of tapping footsteps fills the room as Lars follows the terrifyingly large woman down the dark hall. She guides him into an apartment room and as Lars enters, he attempts to tell her thank you, only to have her close the door on him. He walks into the living room where he sees multiple high-profiled gangsters huddled around a glass table full of boxes.)
Russian gangster: (Grins) Fish?
German Gangster: Brother- unfortunately.
African-American Gangster: I trust business is done here anyway, gentlemen. (Packing up his bag) Business and pleasure and all that. (Sighs and leaves the room) At ease. (Closes the door)
(The others grab their things and leave the room except for Lars, his "brother", and a mysterious blonde woman who sits in the chair aside from Lars' brother and Lars.)
Lars: Good to see you alive, as I expected from the start.
German Gangster: Promise is a promise- she wanted to lie low.
Lars: Yeah. (Gives her a snobby look)
German Gangster: Why are you here, little brother?
Lars: I'm at the end of my line- obviously. You denied any non-business contact so I'm here to collect a last favor.
German Gangster: (Shocked) FAVOR?
Lars: For not telling me our sister has been alive this entire time! And do not fight me on this Gustav, because I promise you my wrath will be much greater than yours. Now… (Clears his throat and his head) I need access to Strauss' files and meeting with The Worship.
Gustav: (Laughs) The crew don't want you anymore than I want you here, little brother. Your better option is to go home and leave whatever this is you're looking for behind before you get killed.
Lars: Look at my nose!
Gustav: Yes- I heard you got that from one of the muscles in The Worship. I was told if you came by looking for backdoor access to put a bullet through your skull. (Takes his pistol out of his hand and waves it around) I'm tempted. (Chuckles and grins)
Lars: (Sighs) I don't want to jeopardize your position in the order but you still owe me. I want extended information of Strauss and her connections.
Gershna: Oi, little brother, you're such a pain! Leave already!
Gustav: (Puts his gun away and rubs his fingers over his lips) As you already know, the school Tracy Strauss bought was originally owned by our family. Because she knows of our family chains, I shall tell you of hers. Whether they know it or not, I do background checks on all I do business with. After I give you the names of her closest contacts, you are to never show your face around me again. Do we have an understanding?
(Lars is internally conflicted by the idea of never being able to patch things up with the last of his remaining family, but after a few seconds of remaining still, he responds.)
Lars: I'll have I need and by the time I reach the end of this rabbit hole I'll most likely be dead anyway. Thank you, brother, for letting me see her and you… one last time.
(His sister slaps a file on the table.)
Sister: Good luck.
(Lars takes the pile of folders and skims through them quickly but not much seems to get his attention.)
Lars: What is this? These are all politicians. What am I supposed to do with this?
Gustav: These are all people she's worked with. You wanted information and you now have it. Now get out or I send you out in a body bag. I'll grace you with the choice since you are family.
Lars: … (Grabs the files and rushes to the front door) For what it's worth… I really wish we could've fixed what we had… (Turns away and leaves the apartment)
(Lars wonders out into the street as it begins to rain and holds the files tight to his chest. He makes his way toward a parked taxi and knocks on it to await assurance to enter. He enters the back seat and quickly closes the door.)
Cab Driver: (Looks in the rearview mirror) Where are you headed?
Lars: Uh… (Breathing a bit heavy and shuffling through the files) Honestly… can we just sit a moment? I just need a moment.
Cab Driver: Okay. Let me know when you are ready.
Lars: (Begins to heavily tear up and holds his chest) Thank you… (Takes about 14 seconds to cry out his pain through the sounds of falling rain) It's nice to see females being cab drivers. You're awesome.
Cab Driver: I figure crazier things happen in the world, so why not pursue the not average? (Smiles)
Lars: (Smiles) You're a good person; thanks. (Taps her on the shoulder twice then nervously backs off) Is it wrong to touch your shoulder as long as I see you equal?
[Tracy, School]
(Tracy is seen doing paperwork late into the night in her office when suddenly she hears a rattling outside of her door. Tracy leaves her office to investigate the noise to find a shadow moving around in the kitchen area. She enters the kitchen and sees A young girl digging in the refrigerator. Once she realizes she's busted, the girl nervously takes a bit of some bread she had in her hand and closes the doors. Tracy turns on the dim light in the room and takes a seat on the stool at the island.)
Tracy: Mind telling me what you're doing up so late?
Therese: I… I'm sorry, Ms. Strauss; I was just nervous is all and wanted something to eat.
Tracy: What're you nervous about? You're safe here, along with everybody else. Hey, you have nothing to worry about.
Therese: (Sighs) I like… a boy and he likes me too. I was shocked to say the lease to learn how he felt about me. (Nervously giggles) But... I'm a virgin and… how do I tell him I'm inexperienced risking him not liking me anymore?
Tracy: (Takes a breath) Wow… I wasn't expecting this kind of a talk tonight.
Therese: I know it's not your job; your job is to run the school; I'm so sorry.
Tracy: (Slowly rubs her fingers through her hair) My first question would be, do you feel safe with him? Adults may do this stuff a lot but that doesn't mean we can't be careful. I wouldn't worry too much about sex, especially at your age.
Therese: (Slightly annoyed and pouty) But I'm ready for this. I'm not a kid anymore. Growing up is something I have to do at some point and I'd like for that to be now.
Tracy: yeah…? Don't worry about him not liking you. You're a smart young woman with a lot to look forward to. Just have fun and enjoy the time you spend with him, just don't bet all your chips on this horse, okay. Just do what feels right in your heart and don't worry about the rest, okay?
Therese: Oh kay… but- just- how will I know- when I'm ready I mean?
Tracy: (Smirks) When your emotions become like water and flow without a need to have any thoughts.
Therese: (Slightly smiles) Okay. Thank you, Ms. Strauss.
(Therese gives Tracy a big hug.)
Tracy: Yeah… but now let's get you off to bed, huh?
Therese: Yeah.
[The Next morning, Los Angela, Matt Parkman and Mike]
(Matt and his partner Mike both exit their car and approach a small one story house in an obviously rough neighborhood.)
Matt: What makes this guy so special anyway other than being a menace to society? Captain was very passionate about giving us this case.
Mike: He's a unique one, that's for sure. The Captain gave us the task of arresting the guy. We already have the warrants; everything seems all good to go. We just need to slap the cuffs on him and call it done.
(The two approach the front and knock on the street door. A woman yells at them.)
Woman: HOLD ON; BE RIGHT THERE! Go on, Kids; Vamanos; go eat, it's lunch time. Go see your uncle hector.
(The sound of laughter is heard followed by the sound of her unlocking and opening the front door for them.)
Woman: Que? What is this; can I help you?!
(Confused and slightly on guard she quickly slides outside and closes the door behind her before the children or anyone else, sees who she's talking to.)
Woman: What is this; you two are cops?
Matt: Yes, ma'am, LAPD and we're here for Hector Agoza. We have a warrant for his arrest.
Woman: (Slightly conflicted she crosses her arms) What do you have on him?
Matt: Ma'am-
Woman: As his family, I have the right to know!
Mike: Ma'am, your husband has been charged with several accounts of murder and drug charges, not to mention possession of a stolen vehicle.
Woman: No… It was a mistake, the losers who stole the car- (Cuts herself off before giving away too much trouble) I reported the car stolen, yes, but Hector found the guys and got it back for me. I canceled the report; didn't you guys get it.
Matt: That's all good and dandy, ma'am but we still have him on murder and drug charges on top of that, now possible vigilante charges.
Woman: (Annoyed and wipes the tears from her face) No, UGH! I'll call him right now. Stay here, please.
(The woman furiously charges back into her house.)
Matt: We'll be right here waiting for him, ma'am.
(After a few seconds of patiently waiting, the door is opened and it is the Woman glaring at them with an evil glare on her face. She rudely pushes the door open for them.)
Woman: Come in; have a seat. He's in the kitchen; he's willing to comply just let me have a word with him.
(Matt arrogantly grabs the screen door and holds it open for his partner.) After you.
(The two of them stand in the middle of the home with several young kids staring up at them. As soon as the big bad policemen make eye contact, the children look away all except of one "tough" teenage boy who angrily glares at the two of them while he grabs a cigarette from the nearby drawer and lights it in his mouth.)
Teen: You so tough, you gonna take me to jail too, huh?
Matt: Kid, trying to prove you're tough only makes you look stupid.
(The kid begins violently coughing from the cigarette.)
Matt: See my point? Now I bet you thought you were tough starring two cops down with a cigarette in your mouth. I know punks like you who last one hour in custody before crying for their mommy. (Walks up to the boy and leans his face close to his) You wanna play this game of who's tougher, I promise You won't win. Now have a seat.
(Matt hears something strange in his head coming from the next room and he casually walks into the kitchen to check it out. He catches the tail end of the conversation between Hector and a woman.)
Woman: (Silently) Put it away-
(Hector has his back turned to Parkman and sneaks a gun into the drawer. He then turns around to Matt and raises his hands showing he's not a threat.)
Hector: You got me officer; I don't have anything to hide, I just ask you let me say bye to my kids before you take me.
Matt: You can say goodbye on your way to the car outside but first; you're under arre-
(Matt is frozen in place and cannot talk suddenly.)
Woman: NOOO! Hector; stop it right now! Let him go!
(Mike comes stumbling in moaning and unable to talk as his mouth has been sealed shut as well as Matt Parkman's. Hector's sister yells and stands over the sink panicking about the situation while Hector casually approaches Matt with a smug look on his face.)
Hector: (Arrogantly chuckles) Looks like you a'int reading anything, pig. Now you head back to your superiors and tell them you didn't find me or you'll never be able to brush those filthy pig teeth again.
Woman: Hector!
Hector: Nah, don't worry about it, sis; I got this. Look, cop; I know you just trying to do your job and all but this is my family and I'll always do what I need to in order to keep us together, alright?!
(Matt gets into his head and after a back and forth mental exchange between the two; both Mike and Matt's mouths are returned to normal. Hector looks confused at what just happened.)
Hector: What was that? I didn't unsought your mouth, nah, what is this?
Matt: This is when you go down.
(Hector falls to the floor and flips over on his stomach. He puts his hands behind his back and Matt casually puts the cuffs on him.)
Matt: (Whispers in his ear) You aren't the only one with special talents. (Drags him up to his feet)
(Later that day, Matt is standing in the office with his Captain as he casually pours himself a hot cup of fresh coffee from behind his desk.)
Captain: Job well done, Officer Parkman.
Matt: Thank you , sir, it was a simple grab 'em and bag 'em, nothing a dedicated police officer like myself couldn't handle.
Captain: (Takes a sip of his coffee and sits at his desk) Take a seat, Parkman.
(The tone of his Captain becomes more serious and dark. Matt knows he's about to tell him something serious so he grabs the nearest seat and sits in front of his captain's desk; giving his full attention.)
Captain: We'll cut the small talk right now. I know about your secret operations with a young man named Lester Adams. You've been sneaking evolved humans across the border or to other states and giving them fake ID's. Now is this true? I know the answer to that I just wanna hear it from you.
Matt: (Honest and firm) Yes, sir, I have been. I understand-
Captain: Save it! Your actions have left a number of cases unsolved and from my knowledge of the law, you're aiding and embedding not one, but multiple fugitives! How do you feel about that and I want your honest response!
Matt: Well, sir, I understand people were hurt, but I also understand that not everyone deserves to be punished for their mistakes. Only the few I knew were innocent I helped, but I always recognized the criminals. I did what I felt was right, sir, but that doesn't change the fact that my actions were unjust.
Captain: (Taps his index finger against the desk) The man you caught today has been on the line for awhile now, but the real meaning behind me assigning his arrest to you was for an audition. I'm sure with the way gossip floors these streets it'll be a matter of time before the hustlers out there give you a name. Whether they know of your actual identity is beyond the point. You as an entity will exist and that provides opportunity. Evos out there will learn to trust you innocent or not and that will help make the guilty ones easier to catch. As I said before, I'm going to be completely upfront with you, Parkman. I work for a company- interested in dealing with individuals with abilities who aren't fit for the justice system. They need help taking these people to prison discreetly and if they've disappeared and changed their names, it makes it even easier to keep their arrest off public record. As shady as that might sound, the world is not quite ready to deal with the politics of public and private prisons dealing with these individuals.
Matt: I see, sir, so you were auditioning me to join this company you're with?
Captain: Yes… This company is a little off the record but we do have a special card for those whom we invite into the circle. (Reaches into his desk and pulls out a small card he hands to Matt) We are government based and all the illegal actions you've done letting these investigated criminals go will be overlooked just so long as you give us the names of everyone you let go.
Matt: … Well, sir.
Captain: You will be doing the right thing. You can't stop us from arresting these people, all we ask is you help us capture the ones who are a threat. Have a good day now, Parkman. (Turns his chair around to stop facing Matt and dismisses him)
(As Matt leaves the office, he looks down at the card.)
[Samuel Sullivan and Red Hood, field]
(Both Samuel and Red Hood stand in a wide open field.)
Samuel: (Takes a deep breath) Here's our winning ticket.
(Samuel spreads his arms and clenches his fists tightly, causing a slight earthquake. The ground before them breaks apart and moments later a rusted broken down trailer rises from out of the ground.)
Red Hood: You must've really tried to bury something precious down there.
Samuel: (Shrugs) Only Claire Bennet and her father Noah Bennet.
Red Hood: So in other words, yes.
Samuel: I would've saved them eventually- or at least one of them.
Red Hood: Let's go inside.
(The two of them open the trailer door and a large plot of dirt comes crashing out. Samuel uses his ability to pull all of the sand out of the trailer. The two of them enter the dusty trailer and begin to look around.)
Red Hood: Crazy to think this has been the death for so many souls. How many lives have fallen to such a fate?
Samuel: (Thoroughly searching the shelves and floor) Buried before death? So, so many. (Stands and turns to him) But the past isn't what we shouldn't be focused on, at least not mine. The files aren't here. Someone moved them.
Red Hood: Then I guess you're finding them.
(Red Hood grabs Samuel's shoulder teleports him away. Samuel appears back at the carnival he was once the head of the family for. He looks around in nostalgia at the night sky, bright lights, and laughter of children all around. A young boy is seen tossing a ball into a bucket in an attempt to win a prize. Samuel walks up to the boy and gives him a big smile.)
Boy: Ah man, I almost won!.
Dad: Ah, I'm sorry, maybe next time, buddy.
Samuel: Hold on, one second. (Looks at his father) Would you mind, sir, I'll only be a moment.
(The father takes a step back and Samuel grabs a baseball. He kneels to the boy and positions his arm.)
Samuel: Okay… not the trick is to aim… for the rim. Put too much force and the ball will jump back out at cha. Kay, ready? 2… 3… Throw.
(Samuel helps the kid toss the ball and as it goes into the bucket, it hits the rim and falls to the ground.)
Samuel: Ah, so close. (Stands) It's alright, kid, with a little practice, you'll be a star. (Winks and turns to the carny) Give them another round on me. (Walks away)
Carny: Sure thing, Samuel.
(Samuel walks toward the trailers, but close on his tale is a shady individual. Samuel eventually makes it to the correct trailer he was looking for and searches beneath the desk to find a box of paperwork. There are several knocks on the door and Samuel cautiously goes to the window to see who it is. It is the shady individual who's been stalking him. Samuel opens the door for him.)
Samuel: You shouldn't be here, Eli, what is it; make it quick.
Eli: You could've helped that kid won, but you didn't. What was that about?
Samuel: Not that I need to explain myself, but doing things for people denies them the opportunity to grow themselves.
Eli: Guess it makes sense. (Leans against the wall)
Samuel: What's troubling you, Eli?
Eli: Nothing, nothing it's just… Becky's getting a bit restless. She hasn't been the same since the situation. I'm worried about her is all.
Samuel: (Sincerely rests his hand on Eli's shoulder) She will be fine, friend, have no worry. This one has a fiery spirit; she'll need to cool before changing course.
Eli: (Smiles) What do I tell Dominic?
Samuel: Eli… would you mind? (Extends his arm to escort him out of the trailer)
(After Eli leaves, Samuel grabs some spare papers and ink. He then proceeds to copy in files in detail.)
[Matt Parkman, Los Angeles, Present]
(Matt Parkman is in the living room of Lester speaking with him about the offer that's been given to him by his boss.)
Lester: So your boss has me on radar?! Pfft. Man I knew this was a mistake getting involved with you.
Matt: Look he's not going to do anything as long as you cooperate and don't do anything stupid like skip town.
Lester: (Rushes Matt) Your superiors are watching me! How do you think I feel about that, huh? (Backs away) nah, man, your pimp at this point, has us both played. He has too much dirt over us and now the keys to my freedom are in his possession! I only have my freedom because someone else is "privileging" it to me. I respect the ancestors, but I'm not down with their life! I won't be a slave, especially not by choice. Call it pride, call it whatever, but this third party circus a'int recruiting me as their stunt monkey.
(Matt's attitude shifts and he seems to be a bit more sinister.)
Matt: You just had to be difficult about this, didn't you? You could've just played good.
Lester: Play, good, with them?!
(Like the flip of a switch, Matt goes back to his regular self.)
Matt: Look, you have to understand, that despite how you feel or why you did it in the first place, this operation is illegal. Don't think you earned a life of not looking over your shoulder when you broke the law. Now they're giving you a chance to work with them; same as me. Please, Lester, do not complicate things. Everything can be just as it was before, but I only wanted to be honest with you, Lester, and tell you we both need this. My butt's on the line too.
Lester: Sorry, man; can't do it. Now I need to disappear, so I need you to do the same and get out. (Stares down Parkman and points at the door)
Matt: (Sighs) I can't believe you're making me do this. (Turns his head and uses his telepathy) You won't remember any of this conversation and you will completely forget I was ever here. Go to your room to sleep and when you wake up, this will all be buried in the back of your mind.
Lester: You know what, man; I think I'm gonna crash out and sleep all this off. (Walks away toward the back of his house and closes his bedroom door)
(Matt leaves the house not feeling too bad about the action he's just made. As he leaves, the silhouette of a man is seen exiting the home without Parkman knowing.)
[Petrelli mansion]
(In the living room near the fireplace, Angela Petrelli sits in her chair starring at a picture of her two sons smiling together. She places her fingers over one of her son's faces and closes her eyes. After a short time, the door opens and Angela is snapped out of her trance. She quickly puts the picture down.)
Peter: Mom? Hey, mom. I brought you some tea from the Chinese place you loved so much.
(Peter gives his mother a kiss across the cheek and places both cups on the table between his mother and the expensive chair he sits in. He looks down and flips the picture of both himself and his brother side-by-side.)
Peter: Wow, these were good days, weren't they, ma- you, me, Nathan, Heidi. How is Heidi doing?
Angela: … I appreciate the kind gesture, Peter, but you and I both know you're here for something. I don't have to see into the future to when you're buttering me up.
Peter: (Smiles) No, ma, I actually came by to make sure you were alright. It's crazy out there and I know how rough things have been for you- for both of us; I just wanna make sure you're ok.
(Angela gives him a blank smile and a kiss across the forehead.)
Angela: I know I could stand to say it more often, but I am proud of all you've accomplished. You always tried your best and never gave up, no matter what?
Peter: (Smirks) Where is this coming from, Mom?
Angela: (Sighs) Nowhere, dear, just me. I'm proud of you for getting out of the house and attempting to reach out.
(Peter just smiles and gives his mother one last hug.)
[Unknown Location]
(In New York, Gabriel stands in front of an apartment and knocks three times gently. After a short time, the door is opened and it is a beautiful young woman. She seems fine at first sight, but very quickly, her eyes grow with rage.)
Sylar: Hello, Miya.
Maya: What are you doing here? How did you find me? Leave!
(She tries to close the door but Gabriel holds it open with his hand.)
Sylar: You and I both know I can break down this door with no problem, but I'd rather not go that route; now are you going to let me in for a quick chat or will I have to force you to listen?
(Maya releases pressure and allows him to enter without retaliation.)
Gabriel: Thank you. (Enters)
(As soon as Gabriel walks in, he looks around at the apartment in fascination. He turns around only to find Maya shove a pair of scissors into his face. She rushes into her kitchen to grab a knife and charges at Gabriel. She gets him in the chest and he stumbles back a bit groaning in pain.)
Gabriel: Ugh, I know we didn't leave things on the best terms, Maya, but this really hurts, are you done?!
Maya: You're a monster…
Gabriel: I am. (Removes the scissors from his face and knife from his body) And that is precisely why I'm here. (Tosses them on her coffee table) Please sit; let's chat a minute
Maya: (Cautious) What do you want…? Leave right now!
Sylar: (Takes a seat on the couch behind him and gets comfortable.) It doesn't work that way, I'm not a vampire, you can't just tell me to go and I fly outta here. The only way you're getting rid of me is if you have a seat and you talk to me.
(Maya does not like the idea but she takes a seat across from him with a hateful glare in her eyes.)
Maya: I've been thinking about you a lot lately. It is strange that you are here.
Gabriel: Not very good thoughts I'm sure. (Taps his finger on the arm of her couch)
Maya: You killed my brother, I cursed your name.
Gabriel: The burden of my name is a curse. (Stops tapping and sighs) I'm sure it felt good to stab me; to act on your fantasies and lunge that blade straight into my chest. It isn't going to bring him back. Maya…
Maya: You're sick… you're a monster. (Begins to tear) How can you take pleasure in watching the family of your victims suffer? You- I can't believe I fell in love with someone like you.
Gabriel: I didn't get it before, Maya but now I do. You saw goodness in me because you didn't know me; same as how Candice saw me when she knew me… You saw that light in me, that light I never realized I had. You are the real angel Maya, not me. So I'd like to repay you; the same gift you've given me. Your emotions are not something to hide from but they can be dangerous. You have the ability to give life to those around you as well as take it away. Your hatred and your anger consumes you because you haven't been taught to control it, but, Maya, I can teach you to control it. (Reaches into his pocket and tosses a card on the coffee table) You do not realize how important you are and when your abilities manifest again, remember what I said. Don't let yourself be consumed like I did. You and I, we aren't so different.
Maya: (Anger building more and more toward him) Are you through…?
Gabriel: When you learn to forgive me, you will begin to heal yourself- Petrelli taught me that.
(Gabriel stands and walks over to Maya. After a few seconds of standing over and raising his hand, he taps Maya on the shoulder twice before walking away.)
Gabriel: I'm sorry I killed Alejandro. If that day comes that I could bring him back, I will. (Leaves the apartment)
(As Gabriel leaves, Maya begins to express her grief and anger through tears.)
[California, Lars]
(Lars wonders onto a property and jumps onto the porch of the house. He enthusiastically knocks three times but then the door squeaks open. Lars enters the home only to find a man in a red leather hooded coat standing over a body.)
Lars: Uh… Should I not be here; is this a bad time…?
Red Hood: (Looks down at the body) It's a shame what happens when you don't have any friends. Who knows how long he's been dead for.
Lars: uh…is that uh… Zimmerman? (Closes the door behind him and walks further into the living room)
Red Hood: It was.
(Lars kneels beside Zimmerman and begins biting his own nails at the sight of him not moving.)
Red Hood: This is how the game ends. You need to get out while you still have your life.
Lars: (Sits on the couch) A life isn't worth living unless it's followed with something worth dying for. My life is all I truly have at the end of the day, why deny myself the expression and understanding of that.
(Only the back of Red Hood's head is shown as he uncovers his hood and reveals his face only to Lars.)
Red Hood: You've got heart, but you will die playing this game. Who gave you those files from Sullivan's trailer?
Lars: My brother. But he's made it clear not to contact him anymore and I don't know how he got them.
Red Hood: Sullivan is in the past making copies, so I suppose it isn't an issue, for us. But someone will come looking for those files at some point.
Lars: I know…
Red Hood: And they are going to kill you. You can do so much for this world- don't waste your gift on this.
Lars: You care and I thank you, but I'm choosing this path.
Red Hood: (Leans back in his seat) By the end of my journey, I'll be dead too, so in some way, I know exactly what you're feeling.
Lars: How do you deal with it- dying?
Red Hood: The biggest fear about dying before was the terrifying thought of knowing I'd never experience everything I wanted before it was too late. But I'm doing all I can to make things right now and sometimes that's all we can do.
Lars: (Leans forward and thinks for a few seconds) What is it you regret?
Red Hood: Nothing, because I cannot change anything. Change history, the present, future, or past all you'd like, but nothing will ever change the history of what creates us. You can never change what is inside. (Throws his hood over his head)
Lars: I'm not empathic, but I can see that you're in pain- consumed by an idea like me. I won't try to get to you or pry but what I will do is say this- our pain speaks to us daily; maybe once in awhile try speaking back. Maybe that past experience damaged your faith side or maybe your inner child. Speak to your inner child and find out what it wants.
Red Hood: (Stands to his feet) I'm sorry about Zimmerman, but there were others.
Lars: Well… I lost my home, job, and family. What little money I did have left I'm using for flights, but it's getting expensive.
Red Hood: So what do you want?
Lars: I know you have a power; otherwise you wouldn't be dressed like that. You got anything that could help me get to where I need to go next?
Red Hood: Give me a minute.
(Red Hood closes his eyes and teleports away to the past. In a cold poorly-lit small square room, a young child is seen heavily crying for his mother. The boy turns to see Red Hood standing over him.)
Boy: W-where is my mommy…?!
Red Hood: (Tightly embraces the boy) I know it wasn't fair to you growing up, but I can be your best friend. I'm the adult now and I can provide you experiences denied to you. I won't let it happen again… you won't be alone again.
[Los Angeles Police Station, Matt Parkman]
(Matt Parkman is seen entering his superior's office with a look of confidence on his face. His superior leans back in his chair and displays a menacing smirk.)
Captain: Mr. Parkman; I wanna thank you for coming in on such short notice; I was curious as to your thoughts on that offer?
Matt: Well, we all do respect, sir; I'm heavily considering it.
Captain: Really? In that case, I wanna offer you something along with the offer- (Stands out of his chair and walks up to Matt with a huge smile on his face) - a chance to impress "the boss".
Matt: (Slightly confused) Sir?
Captain: (Says in his head) He'll go for it; I've just gotta find the right bait. (Says out loud) Do you like gulf, Mr. Parkman? (Walks back to his chair to take a seat)
Matt: Yes, sir, I do. With no disrespect, sir; what is this about exactly?
Captain: (Taps his finger on the desk 4 times then rubs the wrinkles out of his fine suit) A job opportunity. Now it is classified, but I feel you're qualified for the job. We can discuss it over dinner tonight. Bring the wife and we'll have us a nice little chat. Again, I trust this discussion only remains between us and no one else in the department, not even your partner, Mike.
Matt: Yes, sir; I can keep this a secret. (Slightly struggles with himself to not read his mind)
Captain: Good! Well, an offer like this can't wait. Unfortunately if all chips aren't in; I'll have to look for someone else. I mean you do have interest in moving up slightly, correct?
Matt: … Well… I do, sir. But only in what fits my skill set.
Captain: (Displays a bigger devilish smile and leans in closer to Matt) Then this job would be perfect for you.
(A strange tension fills the room and Matt seems to be caught in a trance which is quickly broken from the sound of his cell phone suddenly ringing. Matt quickly takes it out of his pocket to turn it off.)
Matt: My apologies, sir.
Captain: I'll be keeping you updated if anything was to happen but there's a new Italian restaurant not too far from here. I'd say we meet up around 8 tonight.
Matt: We'll be there.
Captain: Great to hear and hope to have you on the team. (Smiles and shakes hands with Matt)
Matt: Thank you, sir; hope to hear more about the opportunity later tonight.
(The captain nods his head then turns away from Parkman as if he wasn't in the room anymore. Matt then slowly turns around to leave the room slightly uneasy.)
Captain: Oh, and uh- your partner Mike has details on a new case the two of you will be working. See him right away.
Matt: Thank you, sir.
[Carnival, Samuel]
(Samuel enters a trailer where he sees a beautiful Tattooed women sliding a thin gown over her shoulders. She turns to see him and gives off a smile.)
Lydia: Samuel, what a shock to see you here.
Samuel: Lydia…
(Samuel approaches Lydia and gives her a huge hug. She closes her eyes lets out a loud moan, absorbing the emotion and sorrow of Samuel's heart. After a short time, she pushes herself off of him.)
Lydia: You know how dangerous time travel is, you shouldn't have come here!
Samuel: We've made minor changes to the timeline already, Lydia, but all for the greater good… at least I thought so.
Lydia: (Sits down in a chair and straightens her hair) You're dealing with grief heavily; I can tell that's why you've come to see me. Are you here to postpone the inevitable?
Samuel: I'm here to say I am sorry for ALL of it- for this, for Joseph. I acted out because I lost myself.
Lydia: No, Samuel; you've never lost yourself which is why you acted out!
Samuel: … You always knew what was best… always. By the end of this journey, just know I am sorry and Amanda will be taken care of. (Leaves the trailer)
(Samuels walks out into the carnival and is teleported away from thin air.)
[Savannah, Georgia, Tracy]
(Katherine, one of her new partners, enters her office along with Therese who doesn't seem too happy.)
Tracy: Hey, what's got you feeling blue; the thing we talked about last night didn't end so great?
Therese: (Slightly embarrassed) Um… no, but I'd rather not talk about it.
Tracy: Sorry things didn't go so well, honey.
Katherine: (Takes a seat in front of her desk) Therese has other things she should be focusing on other than boys. She literally is in the prime of her youth and her actions decide the direction of where we're going as a nation.
Tracy: The only direction she needs to focus on is the one that makes her happy.
Katherine: Look, Tracy, I really appreciate working with you, but I am your assistant and it is my job-
Tracy: To assist, not dictate. Therese is a bright young woman who needs to make her own decisions. She's adult enough to do that.
(Although not verbally expressing it, Therese is deeply touched by Tracy's recognition of her maturity.)
Tracy: Look, feeling disconnected from each other disconnects us from ourselves and eventually effects how our abilities evolve. They are kids and we can't forget that.
Katherine: Hmm… I supposed I can wrap my head around that. Sorry, Therese, go ahead and ask your little boyfriend on a date.
Therese: (Displays a huge smile) Thank you, Ms. Katherine.
Tracy: Katherine, I apologize for interrupting. What have you come here to discuss?
Katherine: Children with abilities get curious and so… security itself needs to be slightly increased.
Tracy: Yes, I do understand this. There are a few issues which still need attending. If you feel security is what we should focus on next then we'll do that.
Katherine: Good… uh…
Tracy: I did hire you to be head of security. If you find worthy candidates let me know, but do not reveal the location of this school or put the students in jeopardy.
Katherine: I understand…
Tracy: Great. Now, if you'd excuse me, I've got a meeting with a potential new student.
(Tracy enters a large freezer after speaking with Katherine and Therese and toward the very back, she sees an ice sculpture of a teenage girl frozen in place.)
[Angela Petrelli, Petrelli mansion]
(Outside in the garden, Angela sits in a slight fog)
Angela: Every time I close my eyes, I see the burnings of bodies; destructions of cities- an apocalypse of biblical proportions. If I do this, I will need to know that you will do all in your power to stop this.
(Angela eats a small bowl of salad along with two other individuals, a well-dressed woman and a man with a scowling look on his face.)
Red Queen: I understand your concern, Mrs. Petrelli. I would be too if the fate of the world rested in someone else's hands; People are- unpredictable to say the lease. I can bring this proposal to his attention.
Angela: I appreciate this. And please, send him my best. I know his health has not been the best these days.
Red Queen: Of course, Mrs. Petrelli, and I'm sure he'd appreciate it and I will make sure his intensions are for the greater good.
Scowling Man: (Looks at his watch) I hate to interrupt the meeting, ladies, but we're expected elsewhere.
Angela: We've said all we needed to anyway, and my salad's getting warm. We'll chat again, I'm sure.
Red Queen: (Respectfully bows her head) Be well.
(The two of them stand and leave the area, and as they do so, "Peter" Walks passed them, given them a strange look in the process. He gives Angela a big hug from the side and sits across from her with a scowl on his face.)
Peter: Hey, ma- (Looks at her salad) ooh, looks good. Did you save some for me?
Angela: (Squints her eyes at him) Being around my son for so long, you've got his walk and body fairly accurately, but you still have more of Nathan's persona. You can't fool me; what is it you're after this time, Sylar?
(Peter shape shifts into Sylar.)
Sylar: I'm shocked you don't consider me a son after all we've been through.
Angela: After what you did, you're lucky to still be alive, but I'm done; I'm retiring.
Sylar: Is that what your meeting was about? (Eyeballs her food then looks back up at her) Would you mind, I'm starving?
(Sylar uses his telekinesis to slide the bowl over to her along with a fork.)
Sylar: Thank you, how kind, mother.
Angela: Say whatever it is you need off your chest and leave, Gabriel. You are not welcome in my home nor my presence. I'm through playing games with you.
Gabriel: (Sighs) I'm hoping to make amends. I am deeply sorry for Nathan's death.
Angela: Leave… NOW!
(The gardener glances back at the two of them.)
Gabriel: … I know asking forgiveness is wrong, but I do hope someday you do. I didn't only take on his memories; I took on his love for you and Peter. Although telling him the truth will only ruin things, Peter does feel like kin to me.
Angela: Congratulations, not you have another family who doesn't want you.
Gabriel: (Very hurt by her remark but quickly recovers) Let's not forget, you were the one who did this… I would think hard before directing too much anger outward.
Angela: You don't think I blame myself for what happened?
Gabriel: I think you did what you felt you had to in the moment. I don't know what it's like losing a child, but I can say for certain that it's one of the worse things a person can feel in this world. You can't blame yourself for wanting your son back, Angela; you have to accept what you did was only you trying- being a good mother.
(Angela just stares off into space and ignores him. Gabriel knows he can no longer reach her and stands behind her.)
Gabriel: For what it's worth, you saved me… Nathan's heart forever exists in me. (Flies off into the sky)
[California]
(Red Hood teleports everyone into the Zimmerman house living room. Lars throws up nearly instantly.)
Lars: Of all the places on the planet, you could've taken us, you choose the room with the dead body lying in it!
Red Hood: Get used to seeing this a lot.
Lars: Just saying, a little warning would be great next time.
Red Hood: Samuel, how did it go?
Samuel: I copied the files detail by detail. (Flashes them before the two of them)
Red Hood: Great and did you step on any butterflies?
Samuel: … Lydia; she knows that I have something to do with her death in the upcoming future, she's just unaware as to how.
Lars: Uh… butterfly?
Samuel: Going into the past, mistakenly changing the tiniest detail which in fact creates the most devastating catastrophe on the other side of the world.
Lars: Right… uh.. How do we fix this?
Samuel: We? I'm sorry, I seem to be misinformed, are we just a time traveling squad now; who is this?
Lars: "The Time Squad"- yeah, I like that! And y name's Lars, just Lars.
Red Hood: I will fix this mess you've made just this once, Sullivan, but do NOT mess up again. Everything is nearly finished.
Lars: What exactly have you two been doing?
Red Hood: (Examining the body on the floor) Traveling through random points in time; influencing particulars events and seeing the consequences of our actions.
Lars: Yeah, all for what?
Red Hood: An event powerful enough to cause global extinction. Angela Petrelli will dominantly predict such a thing. Anyway, if you wish to know more, you may join us on our conquest.
Lars: Just a bit. I'd rather avoid spoilers for the future; also I've got faith on my side.
Samuel: Shall we go fix this butterfly now?
Lars: Afterward, I'll need to visit Tracy Strauss at her "private" estate in Savannah.
Samuel: Haven't seen that face in a minute.
[Tracy Strauss, Savannah]
(In a grassy field, Tracy watches as the few students attending her school practice use of their abilities on mannequins. She smiles and eventually makes her way to the bleachers where there she sees a woman she's never seen before.)
Woman: How do you watch over these kids?
Tracy: With a strong yet kind heart.
Woman: Do you ever worry that someday those who do not know change will find their way here?
Tracy: Inevitably that will happen, but for now, I just have to let them be kids and make them feel safe.
Woman: What happens when physical violence becomes an issue?
Tracy: We'll cross that bridge when we get to it. But before we go further into it, you wanna tell me who you really are?
Woman: Someone who's trying to help.
Tracy: I know you from somewhere, so again, tell me who you are or you're going into the ice bucket for the kid's energy drinks.
(Shape shifts into his original form.)
Gabriel: You really do have a heart cold as ice. And what's also funny is that I could tell you weren't lying.
Tracy: What do you want?
Gabriel: A second chance- as you've been privileged with.
Tracy: A second chance; you're kidding, right?
Gabriel: Many are born worthy, such as you, but others, such as me, must earn their worth. I've killed so many people, but I'd like to save 10 times that- and with my body count, that's going to take a lifetime to pass. I can help these, but I can also help protect them.
(Tracy just sighs deep in thought.)
Tracy: I'll keep in touch… for now.
[Unknown location]
(A very dark setting is displayed as a small medical room is used as a canvas with splatters of blood painted along the walls. One nurse, obviously disoriented is on her knees attempting to clean the blood with a large towel. Beside her starring is the "Red Queen" with an unsettling smile across her face. The door opens and in comes her scowling assistance. He looks over on the bed and sees an older gentleman with a sharp pair of scissors in his throat. He walks over to the woman who just continues to stare out at the blood in her now ruined expensive clothing.)
Harris: Congratulations, Ms. Kravid, you've just been appointed to the CEO of Renatus after the unfortunate passing of the company's cofounder.
Kravid: I heard; thank you, Harris. (Stares at the man on the bed)
Harris: And what will be your first course of action?
Kravid: As it always has been- get ownership of The Company. THIS was always the plan, Harris; we just need to set the wheels into motion.
Harris: (Takes in a breath) I trust this also means a promotion for myself as well?
Kravid: You've been loyal, Harris; of course.
Harris: (Respectfully bows) Thank you, Ms. Kravid. For my first act as CEO's assistant, I'll provide the cleanup crew.
(Harris pulls out a pair of pliers from his suit jacket and wraps it around his finger. He casually snaps the tip of his finger off and it lands on the ground. He snaps his other 9 off and within a few seconds they grow back. Ms. Kravid looks over and sees a total of 11 Harris agents standing beside her.)
Harris Clone: We'll get this mess cleaned up for you, no worries.
Harris: Be careful not to bump into each other too hard now. Get to work.
Harris Clone 3: What about the sorry excuse for a maid?
Harris Clone 2: Is she scheduled for "cleanup" as well?
Kravid: I will deal with her. As new CEO my public image is very fragile. I'll need to be very attentive during this pentacle. Contact the Englishman; inform him of the news.
