Chapter 45: A Bad Heart

Narrator (POV)

A/N: hello welcome back to this story, I know it's been forever since I've updated but I felt like people weren't reading or gravitated to read it anymore. And I had many more that I didn't think you guys would read. I know I have some devoted readers who have really pushed me to continue this. There's more to come hope you all enjoy this chapter. Leave some feedback or even completely ignore this note as I know most people will. Love you guys so so much!

"I really enjoyed last night, especially the afterparty. But we have to be parents for a couple more days before we are set free again."

"I'm gonna miss them, but I'm not sad we're leaving." They just laid there for a while before Olivia said she was hungry. Then they went downstairs to get some breakfast. While they were eating Edgar stepped away to take a call.

'Hello- Edgar.'

"Good morning, how are you doing?"

'I'm well considering... I was actually calling to let you know that Don is out of surgery and alert.'

"That's great!"

'Given the type of surgery he had he can't talk much. But it's okay to tell Olivia he actually wants to see her before you guys leave if possible.'

"I'm sure she gonna want to see him too. What time? And what hospital?"

'He should be walking up soon, if you guys want to come now, its the perfect time. And we're at New York Pres."

"Okay I will let her know we should be over soon. Bye!" He walked back over to Olivia. They still had on their reception clothes. "Hey babe, can we go?"

"What! We just started eating, why are you in such a hurry to leave?" She laughed.

"You'll thank me later, just come on." He pulled her hand and hurried outside to the car. On the way to the hospital he decided to explain what happened to Don. "So babe," he took her hand. She looked at him with so much happiness, it killed him to tell her this, "so I'm gonna get straight to the point after I say this- we are on the way to New York pres. before you say anything no one is dead or dying. But the reason you dad wasn't at the wedding was because he had a heart attack." She gasped.

"Really? This isn't some kind of sick joke for a surprise is it?" She squeezed his hand tighter.

"No honey, it's true. But no tears because he already had his surgery and is alert. The reason we didn't tell you was because we all wanted you to enjoy your wedding day and he wasn't critical. I understand if you're upset about it."

"I'm not upset at you, I just wish I knew beforehand but I know you guys had good intentions." The arrived shortly thereafter, Olivia practically ran into the hospital once she got his room number nothing was gonna stop her. "Daddy?"

"Liv." He smiled he barely got her name out.

"They told me you had a heart attack... how severe?" She looked at Eileen. But Don answered for himself.

"I missed- wedding... So bad, I'm sorry." He told Olivia that nothing was gonna stop him from being there.

"Don't be sorry, it's not like you chose to have a heart attack. But what happened to nothing was gonna stop you from being there!" She joked. He smiled admiring her beauty from the big day.

"Beautiful. Pictures?"

"Yeah, honey can you hand me my phone?" She showed him the pictures from throughout the night, except for the after-afterparty.

"Honeymoon?"

"We leave tomorrow, he knows where we're going. But it's all a surprise for me." Don looked over at Edgar.

"The place we talked about?"

"Yes sir."

He looked back at Olivia. "You'll love it, I'm sure." His nurse came back in telling them he needed to get some rest, after not sleep very much last night, due to pain. "Bye."

"Love you!" Olivia said as they left. "Babe, where are we going? Because I'm still hungry."

"We go back to the house. I'm sure my mom is up with the kids already, cooking breakfast." Olivia tried to ease her anxiety but she couldn't shake, the memory of seeing Don so helpless in that hospital bed. The whole ride to the house Olivia tapped her leg- a tell. It was obvious something had her mind racing. Walking in the house, slightly dismissing her family, ok my giving them a moment of her time.

"I'm going to go change and- yeah." Edgar and His mother shared a look. Edgar shrugged it off giving her space.

"Yo, dad?"

"What's up, D?"

"Are you and mom gonna have more kids?"

"Well, we'd like to have a girl, as you can see we've done the opposite four times. But we love you all, but a girl would be great."

"Cool, can I talk to you in private?" They took a trip to the basement where they conversed over a basketball game. "So, there's this girl."

"Does this girl have a name?"

"Her name is Amaya, but she goes Maya. I like her- like a lot. A we've been talking lately, and she mentioned she liked me too. She's a nice girl, gets good grades, she even goes to church. She's been one of the people helping me after school with my schoolwork after what happened. I don't know if you saw me with her at the reception, I know you and mom were busy doing other things. I was wondering if it was okay if I took her out to a movie or the strip- officially?"

"Boyfriend, girlfriend, type official?"

"Yes, she's incredible dad. And my best friend, but I can't look at her like that anymore, because of my feelings for her. I still consider her my best friend but there's more behind it now."

"How do you look at her?"

"She's beautiful, you'll laugh but, I watch her from across the room, walk her to class, check on her- respect her." That's all Edgar had to hear, respect. Now of course Olivia would have to weigh in on this too but he'd allow this relationship.

"I'm cool with it, we'll have to ask mom though."

"For sure, but I wanted to clear it with you first, I never had a father growing up to discuss thing of the nature with."

"I'm here. And I'd like to officially meet her soon."

"Also don't worry about whether I'd spend time or watch West, Noah, and Karter. She already knows where my priorities are and I know where hers are. And she's willing on nights where I have to stay with them to come over and help. She top of our class studying to be a baby doctor, is a certified babysitter, know everything about babies."

"I'm sure your mom will love her." Edgar placed his hand on Davion's shoulder. "Why don't we talk to her now." They raced up the stairs expecting to see Olivia. "Mom, is Liv still changing?" She nodded. Edgar knew something was up. Olivia was standing in the closet area, she still hadn't changed. "Baby."

"What?" Her voice was shaky.

"It's been 20 minutes and it doesn't even look like you attempted to change into different clothes."

"I'm sorry, I didn't realize I was on a time frame."

"That's not what I meant. What's up with you?"

"I just wish you guys had told be sooner."

"I though you said you understood where we were coming from."

"I do, but I would've been okay."

"No, no you wouldn't have. In the time that I found out, and when it happened, how on earth were you going to do anything about the situation. Liz and I felt like that road was the only way. I mean really think about it, if I told you 5 minutes before you got married to the most sexy, handsome, brilliant man, that the man who was supposed to walk you down the aisle had a heart attack. Tell me, what would you have done?"

"Gotten married to the most sexy, handsome, brilliant man I know. And then gone to hospital."

"Liv, be honest-"

"Okay, I would have dropped everything to be there. But now that we're leaving in less than 24 hours with two little babies and one bad heart, here- at home. It's a lot to walk away from."

"That's why we have my mom and dad, Liz, and Noah and Davion are so helpful."

"I promise you this, anything goes wrong we'll come back."

"Okay, you're a great husband." She ran her hand through his hair.

"I know right." He chuckled. "But you're an even better wife. Oh- before I forget. Davion wanted to know if it's alright to be exclusive with a girl. Her name is Amaya, has good grades, self respect, is a certified babysitter, and sounds like an overall great person."

"I know who she is. I saw them at the reception together, she's a pretty girl. I'm okay with it as long as he knows his priorities."

"He knows, he brought it up himself."
