It was Kakashi's birthday yesterday (When I finished writing this) on the 15th September. Fun fact.
PS. Don't hate me.
Kakashi
The dressers came and separated the two of them to prepare them for the ball. He must've waited 3 hours after his initial dressing for Ame to emerge from another room of the suit.
He was laying casually over the bed reading his book when he heard the door opening. He tried to slyly look over the reading material but when his eyes found her form he couldn't seem to remember how to breathe.
"Kashi?" Ame's sweet voice travelled across the space after a few long moments passed. He couldn't find it in himself to speak as his wide eyes began to dry out from the inability to blink. A slow smile stretched across her face as she gracefully floated over to the side of the large bed.
His eyes followed her every movement. She had all the grace of a Lady, he found it difficult to believe she wasn't looking at her like this. Her own eyes scanned his form and a light blush stained her pale cheeks.
"You'll crease your clothes, Kashi." She looked away as she grew nervous. He managed to will himself to move as air descended into his lungs after a little too long. His legs fell from the side of the bed and he stood up, towering over her. He stood close to her, so close he could feel the heat of her body on his bare hands. His gaze fell heavy with something he couldn't place and his chest swelled.
"Akari," he almost whispered her name. Her large silvery eyes seemed like liquid as they peered up at him. "In all my life, I never thought I'd feel like this. Find you." Her mouth parted as her eyes grew a little wider at his words. He brought his hands to her cheek. The heat of her skin electrifying his palm. He tenderly stroked his thumb on her cheek.
"I want to share my life with you," he meant it, but he didn't expect himself to say it. Her eyes relaxed and she looked like she might cry.
"Kakashi, I-"
A knock on the door alerted them and Kakashi was contemplating murdering Tenzo. He let out a frustrated sigh and Aki was already gliding over to the door. He rubbed his face and threw up his henge. The green hair, emerald eyes and tanned skin enveloped his form. Akari had done the same as she opened the door to reveal Tenzo on the other side.
"My Lady," Tenzo bowed no doubt feeling ridiculous. He was henged into a larger form with black hair and scars in various places. He looked like a typical mercenary a lowly lord would hire for brute strength.
"Ready?" Aki called back. Kakashi only nodded as he began towards the door. This would be a long night he realised.
Ame
The sun was set as they arrived at the rooftop entrance. They were entering a large windowless room with large stone archways covered only in organza curtains. Standing next to Kakashi she began to feel nervous about the mission but she tried to push it down. The last few missions had failed miserably and this one, in particular, felt difficult. Kakashi squeezed her hand that rested in the crook of his elbow as if he could hear her thoughts. Tenzo walked behind them on guard as they approached the entryway. The warm yellow light filtered onto Kakashi as she peered up to him. Although his colouring was different she could make out his features. Seeing without his mismatched eyes and scarless felt odd.
"My Lady, My Lord?"
"Yoshida." Kakashi raised his chin and a shift in his presence was apparent. Tenzo walked around and held out their invitation as if they were too good to deal with such frivolity.
"Right this way." The attend was a middle-aged man dressed in fine working clothes. He didn't even look at the invitation as he guided them in. She wondered if it was their clothes or the way they were carrying themselves. She did love the Kimono that was made for her. She was definitely taking it home with her to wear to the festival if they make it back in time.
The attendant guided them through the large room into an even larger hall. It was decorated richly and colourfully against the sandstone. Rich pinks and purples draped from the walls, ceilings and floor.
"The banquet has finished, but the dancing is in full swing. Please enjoy at your leisure." He bowed deeply and left. They hadn't needed to attend the dinner as they would find more opportunity when intermingling with drunk attendees.
"Care to dance?" Kakashi murmured into her ear. She knew he was putting on a show for the guests but she couldn't help the way a shudder ran through her. She couldn't find words so she nodded instead. He held out his hand and she took it and began walking over to the centre of the dancing. She attempted to be as elegant as she could although it felt like it came difficultly to her. She was hoping she was pulling it off.
Kakashi held her a little too closely for public and eyes started to wander over to them. She was surprised at how well he danced but then again he seemed to be an expert in all things. She was trying to concentrate on memorising faces and analysing people but Kakashi's hands would occasionally squeeze her side as they slowly glided through the steps. He looked so elegant she was mesmerised by him. She had to repress the small sounds that threatened to escape as his hands tightened on her waist.
"May I interrupt?" Kakashi and Akari had been dancing for almost half an hour when an unfamiliar guest caught their attention.
"You wish to dance with my wife?" Kakashi almost barked a laugh but his hold didn't loosen.
"Shall we switched partners?" he offered again sincerely. Kakashi didn't even look over to the man's partner when his face fell darkly. Ame squeezed Kakashi's arm and after a moment of staring the guy down he looked to her and she nodded. He reluctantly slipped from her grasp and offered a hand to a pretty Lady in a deep red kimono with pink and gold accents. She couldn't tell if it was just an act that he'd put on but the way the Lady batted her eyes at Kakashi made a heaviness sink into her gut.
"It's a pleasure to make you acquaintance…?"
"Yoshida." She barely bowed and kept her chin up. He was a tall and fairly attractive man. Typical looking son of a wealthy lord he was garnished in all sorts of finery. It made a flashy compression to the grounded grace of Kakashi. He smirked at her and she finally looked him in his dark brown eyes with hair to match.
His boyish grin grew as she took his hand. He placed his other a little to low on her waist and she moved it upward pointedly and she swore he laughed. For a little while, he remained silent which she was thankful for but she could see Kakashi watching her in the corner of her vision and decided she needed to focus on the mission.
"Where are you arriving from?" she let her words drip with honey as she attempted to bat her eyelids at him similarly to his previous companion.
"Stone, and you? Where did they hide you away?" she wanted to turn to dust right there and then as his hand seemed to snake back down a little too lowly. She let him this time hoping he'll divulge more information.
"Lightning," she blinked innocently. "And what are you doing after this?" it was a perfectly innocent question but she loaded it with something much more.
"Ah, I believe I am engaged after this." Ugh, she hadn't even offered anything yet.
"That's a shame, I was hoping to take the party elsewhere." She traced her fingertips along his bicep and she watched his usually cocky smirk falter. She felt a little nauseous flirting her way to information with Kakashi so close, or maybe in general now. It felt even more wrong. She hoped he couldn't hear.
"We could always take the party into another room?" he suggested coyly leaning into her closely. She could smell him as his breath fanned across her face. The scent of strong alcohol invaded her senses. It took everything in her not to push him away or look disgusted.
"A brain to match that pretty face." She purred and dared herself to lean closer to him. He held her tighter for a moment before releasing her. He kept her hand in his as he began to weave through the crowd to an unoccupied room.
She began to psyche herself up for what may come but found herself scanning for Kakashi. She faltered as their gazes connected. She could only describe the look in his eyes as fear. If you didn't know Kakashi then maybe you wouldn't have noticed but she knew. He was half dragging his dancing companion around the room dancing out of beat and far too quickly to the melody.
She felt like she couldn't break their gaze but the dancing guests cut through it as she was pulled further.
It wasn't long until he pulled her into a darkened smaller room. It had walls of scrolls, a chair and a desk. The drunk Lord grinned as he locked the door behind her and pushed her roughly onto the desk, kissing her hard. Sick seemed to roll around at the base of her neck but she didn't respond to it. She was ninja a locked door would be nothing, not even an inconvenience. She was beginning to think he was too drunk to even know. She pulled back and he was panting heavily. A strange tightness clawed through her skin at the disgust. She just wanted Kakashi.
"Tell me about what you're doing after this," she purred dancing her nails over his chest. "Maybe I'll reward you for it." She batted her eyes heavily and wrapped her legs around him. His eyes widened at the bold move.
"I have a meeting with some other wealthier Lord and officials from Suna." He began to slur his words and his youth really began to shine. He had a rounder face than she realised and she began to wonder if he was around her age.
"Where?" she questioned lightly and began slowly unravelling his belt. She heard him gulp hard before he answered.
"Two floors below," he breathed over her again as he launched for her lips but she couldn't take it anymore. She faintly heard the door whip open as her hands came to the Lord's neck and head-butted him squarely in the nose. The wet crunch of his bones breaking rang in her ears as she released his form from her leg grasp. He slumped onto the floor like a bag of blood and bones unconscious. But, her eyes weren't on him, Kakashi stood in the doorway still henged panting and wild-eyed. He looked between her and the unconscious lord in a pile on the floor and his breathing seemed to slow. She didn't know what to say. Didn't know if she could speak she felt so dirty. She wanted to bathe in acid to get rid of the feeling of his lips of her face and the feel of his hands over her body.
"We should get back," He broke the painful silence as he remained standing in the doorway. Something unreadable swam in his eyes and she felt horrific. She began to think maybe there were other ways of getting the information but knew it probably wasn't likely. No one would drop their guard like that unless in that sort of predicament.
"What about him?" they both glanced down to the puddle on the floor. She followed as Kakashi's gaze went to the door handle. It was mangled and snapped off, bits of metal scattered on the floor.
Her heart beat a little faster thinking of Kakashi busting down the door and walking in on what might've occurred. She was a shinobi. She'd have to do whatever it took to complete the mission, but she was thanking all the stars in the galaxy that she didn't need to.
She scanned around the small room and found a closet.
"There," she pointed and jumped down from the desk. She leant down to retrieve and shove the body into the closet but Kakashi's large form cut in front of her arms as he roughly hoisted the man over his shoulder effortlessly. She felt energy slip out of her body at how terrible she felt.
She watched as he pulled the closet door open and drop the body in rather ungracefully. He shut the door and proceeded to rip the metal handle off the frame and discarding it onto the stone floor.
"Let's go," he didn't look at her as he made his way to the entrance of the room.
"Kakashi," she didn't know what to say but she felt like she needed to say something. He paused without looking back. "I'm sorry, nothing happened. He kissed me but I didn't kiss him back." She hated how her voice cracked at her omission. She watched his shoulders sag.
"It's for the mission. Did you get the information?" He asked without looking back.
"Yeah, I did."
They had returned to the hall and loitered on the sidelines in near silence for the rest of the night. Tenzo didn't look like he knew that something was up but proceeded instead to monitor peoples comings and goings. She couldn't bring herself to look to Kakashi and she didn't feel his gaze on her.
The night was growing older and people began leaving the main halls.
"Where did the Lord's lady get to? Will she not be missing his presence?" she suddenly wondered.
"That won't be a problem." Is all Kakashi said. Her mind began to tick along with ideas that made her gut hurt.
"Did you get any information?" she asked in a low tone.
"She didn't know anything." He hadn't looked at her still.
"We should head down," Tenzo suddenly spoke up after being silent for the night.
Kakashi and Akari nodded in sync singularly and they all began to move. The remaining guests were mostly drunk or tired and they needed to blend.
Ame plucked up a little courage and wrapped her hand around the lower part of Kakashi's bicep as if she needed a little help walking. Kakashi seemed to flinched under her touch but didn't react otherwise.
They wandered down the long hall to a grand staircase leading them to the lower levels. A few others made their way in a similar direction. They seemed to nod to them as if they knew one another.
Kakashi and Ame followed suit and nodded to the few people they encountered. They managed to follow the rest of the descending guests winding further down and eventually down a dimly lit corridor. Ame felt her heart pick up a little and subconsciously gripped tighter onto Kakashi. She didn't know it but Kakashi glanced down to her then.
Tenzo came up behind them as they followed the others through the door. They entered a windowless room with a large writing board at the end. A large crescent-shaped desk stood in the middle with roughly 30 people seated and standing around it.
Ame noted how cramped it was but they managed to blend into the back remaining unseen.
The murmuring of the small crowd seemed to quiet as a figure took the centre stage at the front of the room by the board.
"We shan't wait any longer," his voice was low and seemed to project authority. The only noise in the cramped room was people adjusting their chairs to face the front.
Ame took a second to really analyse the commanding male. He was tall and broad with light brown hair and fair skin. He was dressed in civilian clothing but the way he carried himself and spoke sounded more like a shinobi who'd seen decades of duty. He must've been over 40 with a weathered face.
"You all know why we're here today. Let's get on with it."
Ame was engrossed by the conversations spilling out in front of their very eyes. She didn't know how long they'd been there especially considering the lack of windows.
Detailed plans between wealthy lords had been drawn up and showcased. Attacks and strategies to manipulate the high lords or shinobi villages.
It must've been a few hours when they finally called to break. The information that they had given us was enough to go home on and more, yet they were apparently only halfway through. It seemed they'd stumbled upon an underground network that fixes economies, inter-country relationships, countries even. Maybe even wars. Not the solving type of fixes but the ability to control the outcomes.
The three of them seemed to let out a breath they didn't realise they were holding as they turned to one another. They gave one another a knowing look and all previous events of the nights seemed to be forgotten.
"I don't remember inviting a Lord from Lightning," a female voice seemed to bounce around the room and eyes fell on them. Ame felt her pulse beginning to race.
Akari looked up at Kakashi who showed no signs of stress. In fact, he actually began to smirk slowly.
"Good to see you," he nodded over to the approaching woman. Everyone seemed to go back to their own conversations at that. Akari fought the relief that wanted to breathe out of her. A slender Suna female walked up to them, she was a little taller than Akari and had short brown hair and narrow blue eyes- no, teal eyes. "What blows in the wind?" he asked her with familiarity in his tone. Her eyes widened briefly at this.
"Incredible," she murmured. "Seems we have a few stray leaves," she said lowly, her voice unheard by most around her. She nodded to each one of us
"I didn't expect to see you here."
"We shouldn't talk in here," she nodded to the door and we all discretely followed her into the hallway and into an empty room next door.
She said nothing as she turned towards the three of them.
"So this is how you were able to get us invitations," Kakashi spoke and she nodded.
"What better position to be in for information. Think of me as an invisible assistant." Ame couldn't work out whether it was a joke but her face was stern. Kakashi let out a single laugh and she knew a green monster was the coldness in her belly. She had no right after tonight, but he hadn't even looked her way since everything. It wasn't the time for it but she could feel her heart quicken and her breathing become laboured at the possibility of what Kakashi might do.
They had only been together for two or three months, the possibility of it ending seemed to deafen her to the rest of the conversation. She didn't realise she was staring at Kakashi wild-eyed until he looked back at her. Confusion and concern pulled at his cold face. His eyebrows knitted together almost asking if everything was OK. She nodded once but couldn't find it in herself to look away.
"Would you two excuse us? We will return to the main room after." Kakashi looked to the informant and to Tenzo. He nodded again to Tenzo who looked back at him confused. Ame couldn't help how her hands had begun to tremble a little. The wave of realisation seemed to drown her. They were on a mission, would he really be so eager to end things that he would do it right now?
The sound of the door shutting again had her nerves spilling over.
"What is it?" Kakashi asked neither nicely nor coldly. The lack of normalcy between them was so foreign. Not even in the beginning had her treated her so lacking. She knew if she started talking she might cry so she just stared at him concentrating on breathing evenly. He sighed and dropped his henge. Her brows immediately knitted together. He was acting out of character and risking his identity by dropping his henge. He squeezed his Sharingan shut after having it open all night. He looked tired and drained. She activated her byakugan slightly and saw his chakra was about 70% used up.
"What happened to your chakra?" she asked as confusion pulled at her features, "why is it so low?"
"The Sharingan uses a lot." She recalled him telling her of Obito and how he gifted it to him.
"We should leave. We have enough information. If we need to defend ourselves it will become dangerous." She warned.
"I'm fine." Is all he said as he stood almost statue-like.
"Ah, ok." She didn't know what else to say. She'd never felt like this with him. She didn't know what to do with herself. She dragged her eyes from his face to his torso but not really seeing anything as she stared vacantly.
She felt an energy slip out of her and turned on her heels to the door. She hadn't walked to paces when a light grip held her wrist. She halted and took a moment before looking back.
Kakashi's long arm was stretched out to her but he was still side-on. His head hung lowly not looking at her.
"Taichou?" she asked.
"I don't know what to do with this." He uttered lowly. He hadn't released her but she turned to him. She didn't know what to say again. "I'm so angry," he looked up at her with both eyes open. His Sharingan swirled in his eye as they simmered with rage. "I want to go back and drag him out of that closet only to put him in the ground."
Ame gulped as tears threatened to spill. She didn't know why she wanted to cry, everything was overwhelming her and it felt cathartic to release it. A single tear slipped down her cheek and his demeanour seemed to melt away. He let out a breath and his body relaxed before he pulled her to him. He held her head between his hands and looked into her watery eyes. His thumb caressed her cheek, wiping away the salty water. She felt her bottom lip wobble as his eyes swirled with so much emotion.
His Sharingan slid shut slowly and a soft smile washed over his features.
"I should've found another way," she murmured between shaky lips. All she craved was his mouth and love but she felt too dirty to ask for it.
"I don't think we could've done it any safer honestly, I think that's the worst part. I could've used my Sharingan but it would've been too obvious. Selecting a target might've taken us too long, and the cover story was believable."
"There would've been a way, we could've just scouted and waited." She argued more tears spilling.
"And if we didn't find anything?"
"My byakugan. I could've used it."
"And if they'd warded it like on The Foundation building?" He countered her arguments and left her a few seconds for thought.
"What if-"
"Akari just stop. I just couldn't stand the thought of you alone in that room. His hands on you. I know you can protect yourself but, I'm a jealous man Akari." He looked at her pointedly and a slight warmth returned to her chest.
He leant in to kiss her but she arched away out of his hands. His brows knitted together and she looked to the floor.
"I feel too dirty." She spoke in a small voice and he closed the small distance between them. She looked back up at him and his eyes were heavy with understanding.
"I don't mind cleaning you up," he kissed her with a smile and her body burned with an overwhelming sensation. She didn't hear the soft sounds that escaped as he deepened it.
His hot tongue ran over her lips before moving around her face kissing her over the corners of her mouth and her cheeks and the crook of her neck.
He kissed he deeply once on the mouth before holding her head away from his. His breathing was deep and slow.
"I just want you to be mine," he murmured it as if it was just a thought he'd spoken aloud.
"But I already am," she whispered, confusion pulling at her face.
"Be mine," he kissed her hard. She moaned as his tongue lapped at hers and he swallowed it.
His hand snaked to the back of her neck holding her closer to him whilst the other arm wrapped around her back crushing her to him.
They lost track of time but not long after he broke their kiss, panting and his eyes swirling. Ame stood back on her own weight feeling lighter but suddenly tired. She smiled up to him lightly.
"So you're not leaving me?" she asked in all seriousness looking up to him through her long lashes.
"You thought I was going to break up with you?" he laughed humorlessly, anger almost. Her gaze dropped to the floor. "Have I not made it clear enough Akari? I love you. I'm spending the rest of my life with you." He said it as a vow and the whole world seemed to flip within her. He nodded as if that was sorted to her.
"We should head back." He offered his elbow to her and she took it.
They made their way back to the room and slipped into the back next to Tenzo.
"Did we miss anything?" Ame whispered. Tenzo shook his head.
Just as Tenzo shook his head three hooded figures entered the room. It silenced the chatter as they made their way to the front. Kakashi straightened immediately.
"We need to leave," he uttered harshly and Ame didn't question it, neither did Tenzo.
"Welcome, general Kazan." Ame looked back as they weaved through the people to see The sand-covered clocks fall from the three men.
In the middle stood the man that saw them in the village on the failed mission. His red hair glaring at her. Her heart palpitated in her chest and adrenaline surged through her body. Two other men on either side of him both had black hair but entirely different physiques. One huge and the other lean.
"Ko…" Tenzo breathed in disbelief seemingly looking back too. Kakashi pushed them both towards the door hurrying them.
"Who invited the leaf nin?" General Kazan announced and everyone seemed to look in their direction as they made it to the door. But, it was too late. A large guard seemed to slam it from the otherwise forcing them to confront the situation.
Ame breathed in deeply remaining calm. Kakashi stood in front of her and squared his shoulders. The room was so silent you could've heard a pin drop. Tenzo took a defensive stance too.
"We finally meet," a sadistic smile rippled across his features and something dark danced in his face. "I am General Kazan, war general. My subordinates, one which you already know. Ko." Ame looked towards the lean figure who made no move or show of emotion. She wanted to look at Kakashi but her eyes remained on her target.
"This is most unfortunate." He tutted and shook his head. "Yami." He ordered and the larger subordinate seemed to stomp over to the seat which the informant sat. She watched as the young woman's eyes grew too wide and fear paled her skin.
"What is the meaning-" the large shinobi drew his Katana and whipped it across the throat of the informant in one motion. The end of the sentence was never told and silence deafened the masses.
The Lords watched in horror as the body twitched and writhed as it collapsed to the floor. Faint gurgling sporadically sounded until it didn't.
Coldness flowed through Ame and she was suddenly glad she'd worn her chain-mail and standard blue play-suit underneath her Kimono.
Kakashi gave a silent signal which Tenzo and Ame didn't miss. Tenzo formed quick seals as Kakashi kicked down the locked door. They sprinted down the hall as Tenzo's wood jutsu blocked the others exit.
"Where are you going?!" the generally almost psychotic laughter seemed to echo around the empty hall. An explosion sounded from behind and the smell of burning wood was inescapable as they leapt from the building onto a rooftop near.
"We need our gear," Ame spoke up as they leapt from rooftop to rooftop. The sun had begun rising but it was only the very early hours of dawn now in spring. The air bit at her exposed face as the dessert was often cold at night.
"No time." Kakashi left room for no argument.
"I have to," she left her fathers swords, he wouldn't leave without them. Kakashi looked over to her, their henged had dropped and she willed her sternness to him. She had to. She couldn't leave them. They're all she had left.
"Fine."
They turned abruptly 90 degrees. The hotel wasn't far and she would need mere minutes to retrieve them. The hotel came into sight and she began running up the side of the building to the suit at the top. Kakashi and Tenzo remained on a rooftop near watching out.
She shattered through the window and landed on the wooden floorboards roughly. She sprinted towards the entrance where she hung them. The feint gold of the pommel glinted in the sunrise and she swiped them off the hook grabbing her pack in the same motion. It was small and light and she might need the food inside.
She must've taken less than a minute before she sprinted towards the window, leaping down the 9 flights. She formed one hand seals with her only free hand and a bolder shot up breaking half the fall as she landed back onto the rooftop next to Kakashi. He looked at her with wide eyes momentarily before the fire erupted from the sky.
Kakashi pushed Ame out the way and Tenzo was just out of the firing range. She stumbled onto the sand-covered roof below the one she was just standing on. The adrenaline dulled the pain in her shoulder as she landed on it. She jumped to her feet as the dust and smoke fogged her vision. She coughed roughly scanning furiously for Kakashi.
"Kakashi?!" she shouted. The spring breeze dissipated the smoke enough for her to see the remains of splintered and burned wood scattered around a very alive Kakashi. Rage simmered behind his eyes. She hadn't seen that look on him like that before.
She couldn't feel any vibrations as she was on a building and not on the floor and she summoned her bats quickly and they disbursed knowing exactly what to do. She would need the extra vision if he was using such powerful fire jutsus.
"We need to get the information back to the Hokage," Kakashi spoke scanning the area for the enemy as Tenzo and Ame leapt back to his side. "I can't smell them. Use your byakugan."
"There are too many people, I don't think I can make him out." She tried as she scanned the morning market-goers and sellers with her activated eyes but she couldn't see him anywhere. "My summons are looking too."
"I can't smell him. Too much smoke." He spoke as he summoned his ninken. He quickly explained that they were being attacked and they'd discovered something big. He began to give details when a powerful fire jutsu was shot in their direction again. Ame leapt the same direction as Kakashi who swiped Pakkun as he leapt. Tenzo jumped to a lower building.
This time the jutsu ripped through the building they were just standing on leaving it to nothing but ash and cinders. She looked on paling from the power. She'd never seen such powerful fire jutsu's not even from the Uchiha.
"Go," he commanded Pakkun with what little information he had. He poofed out of existence. "We need to lead him away from the village." The village peoples screams echoed in the smoke darkened skies as they ran away from the fight. She nodded as she leapt towards the gorge. It was the only way in and out of the city.
She could feel Kakashi running just behind her. She knew he could run faster than he was but she couldn't. Tenzo caught up to them as they fled the city.
"We need to be careful not to be seen by sand nin. We could start a war." Kakashi projected his voice so Tenzo and Ame could hear.
"Taichou." They confirmed in unison. The pack was slung over one of her shoulders and was bouncing around uncomfortably before Kakashi ran to her side snatching it off and slinging it over his chest and one shoulder.
She silently thanked him and could speed up a little. It wasn't long until they reached the gates. They knew there would be sand nin there and knew they'd probably barricaded it with traps.
"We don't have time," Kakashi confirmed they wouldn't be stopping for anything. "Tenzo." He commanded. "Ame, be ready to use your earth Jutsu with mine." She nodded trusting Kakashi, not knowing what he ordered Tenzo to do. Tenzo began running ahead in the gorge. She would've been shocked at his suicidal decision to go alone but trusted them both.
Tenzo nearly reached the end of the gorge as Sand nin seemed to leap down every which way. Jutsu's were shot aiming mostly for Tenzo, some came for Kakashi and Ame. She tried to focus on dodging them but seeing Tenzo's wood-style was incredible. Pillars of wood erupted from the ground blocking all the jutsu's effectively but leaving a thin path for them all. She watched as Tenzo made it to the other side. They'd all henged back to their fake identities to conceal their Leaf identities. They needed to avoid friction with sand who are known for their short temper.
Kakashi and Ame almost made it. Her summons call echoed in her ears alerting her to the enemy behind them. He was a way off she couldn't feel him approaching yet but she threw herself down to the floor after forming seals. Earth erupted around her and Kakashi into a dome. He had skidded to a halt and threw up his earth style wall before fire enveloped them. She squeezed her eyes closed as the heat grew and the earth began to crumble around them. Kakashi had jumped and covered her as his wall flew up and he took the brunt of the heat.
"You ok?" he grimaced and she nodded unable to open her eyes to the burning temperature. The fire stopped as the dome collapsed around them and they left no time. Kakashi had thrown her onto her feet and ran after her. They didn't look back. They couldn't fight in the city. They didn't have a plan and she knew he wasn't the type of enemy to approach without a plan so they ran. Hard.
The running had slowed over the sand dessert. The sun was relentless and they'd missed a day of sleep. Her summons had disappeared because of the sun and the heat and she couldn't blame them. They were bats after all. Ame used her byakugan every now and again and could see the three of them weren't gaining on them but they weren't slowing either.
Her vision began to blur under the heat. Her Kimono was half burnt, thankfully making it easier to run but she needed to take it off. If she took it off under the sun she'd pass out from sunstroke so she kept it on. But, water, she needed water. It was hard to think straight as her whole body seemed to scream at her.
Kakashi looked back at her then as if sensing her distress.
"I'm fine," she panted. They couldn't stop.
Night fell and with it, the temperature. She'd discarded her kimono but Kakashi who was running behind her swiped it back up, managing to shove the remains into the small pack.
"It will get cold." He warned. She was clothed only in her chain-mail and play-suit. He was right. They'd slowed a little and she kept checking with her byakugan.
"I haven't seen them for the past hour. I think we are ahead." She was breathing a little easier now but her mind was still hazy from dehydration and lack of sleep.
"We should find cover," Kakashi sounded tired too. Tenzo was a little ahead of them but would've heard. She began scanning the area with her eyes activated.
"There's a few cave systems up ahead. More like a maze. 900m and closing at 11 o'clock,"
"You can see that far?" he sounded surprised.
"I can see further than that," she smirked and he turned to her. Something like pride glistened in his eyes. She felt that warmth swell in her chest.
They made it to the mouth of one of the many cave entrances and slowed down. It was a pitch-black night, she didn't know how Tenzo could see where he was going. The moon was hidden behind clouds and the cave obviously offered no light. Kakashi and Ame had their eyes which helped, but Tenzo couldn't fight in this darkness.
They slowly jogged deeper into the cave system. It snaked and bent in all directions and she called out directions so they didn't reach a dead end.
"This is the centre. There are 5 entrances ranging between 500m and 900m." They all stopped and Tenzo fell to the floor ungracefully onto his ass. She did the same and lay flat on the cold damp stone.
Faint dripping of water and heavy breathing was the only thing disrupting the silence. Ame bit her thumb and slammed it onto the ground summoning her bats. They shot out and got into formation through the cave.
"We can rest now." Tiredness took over and she couldn't keep her eyes open in the dark. Kakashi summoned a few of his dogs for good measure before forcing Ame to drink what little stale water was in the pack she brought. She silently thanked herself for going through the effort with it.
"Eat before you sleep," Kakashi demanded but it was soft and laced with concern. She focused her energy and activated her byakugan. He blinked at her as he held out the prepackaged energy bar. It wouldn't keep her awake but she'd definitely feel better when she woke in a few hours. Tenzo patted the ground in the darkness and Kakashi threw the bar at his head instead. Ame couldn't help the tired laugh that escaped her and Kakashi looked back to her amused. He routed around and pulled out another.
"You eat first." She protested.
"There's only one." He said nonchalantly. She sighed and snatched it out his outstretched hand. She aggressively bit down and stuffed two large mouthfuls of the bar before stretching it back to Kakashi who looked at her dumbfounded.
"Yours," she murmured through her overstuffed mouth. She managed to smile at him with food swollen cheeks. He shook his head and smiled before taking the remaining half.
She chewed slowly appreciating food after so long. The dryness of her throat made it difficult but she swallowed. Her belly grumbled in appreciation before she lay down on the stone.
She was just about to fall asleep when Kakashi lifted her head and placed the pack under her head and the remnants of her Kimono over her body.
"Thanks, Kashi," she murmured half asleep. Warmth settled next to her as she snuggled into the familiar shinobi as she drifted off to sleep.
She blinked awake at the rustling near her head. The familiar feeling of being almost hungover from lack of sleep invaded every fibre of her being.
The darkness of the cave proved impossible to see. She needed to alter the formation of her summons to be able to see without her byakugan but she knew she couldn't overuse them either so she remained in the darkness. She could easily see Kakashi and Tenzo's movements through the vibrations but that was all.
"Ame's awake," Kakashi announced to Tenzo. She smiled in the direction of Kakashi's voice.
"We need to make a plan. I don't think they would've given up. We need to be ready."
"Taichou," Tenzo said immediately and Ame tried to say in unison but it was more of an echo in her sleepiness. The darkness wasn't helping.
"First, we need to send someone back to the village to relay the information. It's too important to risk. I've written it in this scroll as a backup." Tenzo and Ame waited for further instruction. "Ame I want you to go," he said but it sounded less from her Taichou and more from her lover.
"That doesn't make sense. You and Tenzo are faster than me, he isn't a sensory nin which we will need, he can't even see in the dark how would he fight. Your chakra is low from using your Sharingan." She protested. She heard Tenzo scoff.
"Like it's normal to see in the dark," she heard him mutter darkly under his breath. He must've been tired to be annoyed. She'd never seen Tenzo riled. She couldn't help the small smile that played on her lips. She activated her byakugan to see Kakashi's dead serious face staring back at her. The smile slipped from her lips. His eyes were screaming at her just to obey him but she knew it didn't make sense.
"This is an order, Akari." Kakashi raised his voice, worry burning into his words. "I'm Taichou, I have to stay and protect Konoha and my team."
"Then let Tenzo go." Kakashi looked between Ame and Tenzo. His former team-mates form sagged from exhaustion. She was right but he was scared. She watched as he physically shook his head.
"Back me up Tenzo." She verbally nudged the disgruntled nin but only received silence. She knew he wouldn't want to leave his captain to fight without him. "I've got his back, I promise. I'd never let anything hurt him." Tenzo looked over to her in disbelief through the darkness. She meant it all.
"Ok, I'll go." He eventually said reluctantly. She watched Kakashi's body slump a little in defeat.
"How long has it been? How long was I asleep?"
"Roughly two hours." Kakashi snipped. Had he slept at all? When did he write the scroll?
Kakashi walked over to her and pulled the water bottle from the bag that was under her head when she was sleeping. She was sat cross-legged beside it now. He stayed standing by her side closely. She knew Tenzo couldn't see and brought a hand to his leg. She squeezed just below his knee trying to comfort him and he looked down at her. Defeat and worry etched into his features.
She realised that he was in his anbu gear and the mask was in place.
"You brought your gear?" she asked dumbfounded.
"It was under my clothes at the ball." He spoke matter of factually.
"We all really dressed for the occasion." She smiled knowing they had all hidden their gear below their clothing. Kakashi passed the bottle down to her. She shook it feeling there was only a little left. She drank just enough to wet he throat and handed it back, knowing he probably hadn't had any.
"Drink," she demanded.
Kakashi and Ame talked over how they would approach the fight. They planned an ambush, they seemed to work well for them. There was an odd air between them about the fight. She wasn't sure she'd fought anyone with such powerful fire style but now they were out of the Village they could go all out. And, that's exactly what they were planning.
"Ok, Tenzo, report back to the Hokage. Ame and I will return after taking care of the General and Ko." Kakashi, Tenzo and Ame had all walked to the cave entrance nearest the leaf village. The night was still dark but the sun was about to rise. Tenzo would leave first and cross the border ahead of them and then they would run for two hours to the border. They needed denser forests for their plan to work, and the shadows it offers.
"Taichou." He confirmed before he turned to run, only he hesitated and glanced back down to them. "See you soon."
They watched his form jet off into the still dark morning. The two of them stood in silence.
"Marry me." Ame's heart faltered.
"What?" What?
"Marry me, Ame." He turned to her and stood over her. His seriousness oozed off him. Something in his expression made her chest ache. His eyes were heavy but he looked at her with so much love. She couldn't find words.
"Really?" she whispered softly to him and he nodded to her and he stepped closer.
"There won't be anyone else for me." Her heart raced harder to his words. Her mind began to race as she looked up to him. Her mind swam and emptied all at the same time. A heavy heat seemed to erupted in her chest.
"We've only been together a few months Kashi, what if you change your mind?" her voice wobbled as she spoke softly. His hands rested on either side of her face gently.
"I could never unlove you. We're shinobi Akari, we don't get this. You're more than I could ever ask for. Our lives are unpredictable, I don't want to wait when I already know." He spoke softly with conviction. His face neared hers but he didn't kiss her. Her body seemed to buzz with a surge of electricity.
"What if I'm not the one?" the words barely escaped her lips. He kissed her softly on her forehead and lingered before moving away from her.
"I can't fall in love without you, Ame."
"Kashi,"
Confusion crossed her features as Kakashi stepped back. He fell on both knees, looking up at her.
"When I look at you, I can't imagine being anywhere else." His eyes swam heavily with emotion as he knelt before her. Kami, she loved him. Her jaw threatened to tremble. "There isn't anyone else for me Ame, you're it." He lowered his head to the floor and placed his forehead on the ground. He placed the palms of his hands next to his head at a slight angle, his elbows pointing up and out. The deepest bow he could perform, the Dogesza.
"Please Akari say yes. Be my wife. Do me the honour of marrying me?"
"It's your whole life, Kashi," She swallowed as a lump formed in her throat. She wanted him. Wanted it. She wanted to be his wife. She wanted him to be her husband. She'd never dreamt of having someone like him in her life. She didn't think she was destined for it.
"It will always be my whole life. Forever wouldn't be long enough." She swears she heard his voice wobble. She breathed in deeply trying to control the tears that threatened.
She stepped before his figure and knelt down by his head.
"I'd do anything to hear you say you'll be my wife, Ame," he spoke into the dirt beneath him. She swallowed as she stared at his bowing figure. She knew her answer.
"I've always been yours."
"Is that a yes?" he hadn't looked up to her yet. A smile played on her trembling lips.
"It was always a yes. It will always be a yes." His head whipped up to her. A laugh sounded as water filled her eyes at the sight of seeing the dirt on his forehead. He shot to his feet picking her up as he did. He whipped her around holding her tightly.
All the sobs that she held back suddenly released, laughing and crying as he twirled around with her tightly held in his arms. He slowed down and came down to a stop, holding her even tighter. He buried his head in the curve of her neck and she tightened her legs wrapped around his hips.
"I didn't know I could be this happy," he murmured into her skin. She crushed herself to him.
She ran a hand through his hair, pulling on it, holding his head back. She forced his gaze to meet hers. His eyes glistened with unshed tears. He suddenly looked as young as he was, 23. She could've sworn she saw his lip wobble once.
She kissed him softly and pulled back.
"I'll love you forever," he murmured.
"I will agree to forever." She replied, breathless. She closed the distance between them again, kissing him deeply. The arms wrapped around her pulled her closer to him, crushing her against his body. Their tongues danced and the warmth in her chest only seemed to grow. She felt like she was going to burst if she loved him any more than she did.
She hugged around his neck and placed her head on his shoulder. The laughing bubbling away in her chest. He vibrated with it, under her.
She would be Kakashi's forever.
But for now, they had something they needed to do.
The two of them waited an hour before setting off. She'd watched over as Kakashi dozed next to her. It turns out he hadn't slept last night and she was starting to worry about his Chakra reserves. He promised he felt fit enough to fight and he didn't need to use much Jutsu's.
She nudged him awake and they'd set off. The sun had just cracked above the horizon as they made it into the Land of Fire.
They'd purposely left a trail and waited at their ambush site for them. It's safe to say it didn't take long.
Kakashi and Ame leapt from their crouched position in sync.
"I can smell them, they're upwind." He announced. The slight vibrations of the larger shinobi were registering from the direction of the Land of Wind.
A breeze raced towards us and the silence of the dawn forest seemed to echo as the vibrations closed in.
"Wait- Kakashi, there's only one." She'd activated her byakugan and a single figure was racing and closing in on the furthest she could see.
Kakashi jumped around as a tornado of flame appeared from behind her. She grunted as she dived off the tree onto the forest floor. Part of the flame burned her side and left a strip missing from her play-suit revealing the side of her abdomen. She winced but pushed the pain away as she always did. She looked back to see Kakashi's clone had poofed out of existence due to the ambush of their ambush.
In the swirl of flame, the general appeared in the centre.
"Ahhh, the Friend Killer," the grim smile taunted them as he looked to exactly where Kakashi hid. "And I couldn't leave out the Shinigami now, could I? I've heard you're a notorious hell-raiser." He'd turned to Ame and began walking closer to her, still about 50m away. It was distraction long enough for his large subordinate to close the distance between them. She leapt up into the trees and sunk into the shadows out of their attempt at cornering her. "I'd be careful around him my dear, his friends seem to have a knack of dying around him." He laughed as if it was the funniest thing he'd ever heard as he stalked through the forest to her.
She repressed the urge to panic as her side stung and burned. Their ambush had completely failed but they had a clear motive to dispose of her first, she doubt they wanted to capture her. And, where was the third one? Ko? She reached for one of her father's swords.
"But, you have secrets of your own don't you, Shinigami, Hirawa Akari." She flinched and almost dropped the Katana at the sound of her Family name. He barked a laugh again and she felt her hands being to tremble.
A presence came from behind her and held a dagger to her throat. It didn't panic her Kakashi told her that his ex-teammate was known to do this exact thing.
"You," she breathed as the cold iron of the blade kissed her neck.
"He let himself be capture red you know," Ko smirked darkly at Ame. Her mind began to race back to seeing his weakened form chained to the floor. She tried to suppress the shock she felt. Kakashi gave up? She tried to think of ways he was wrong but nothing made sense. Hatake Kakashi was a prodigy, he was a monster on the field, how would he be captured from a shinobi half as capable as he? "He thinks he is a failure, he thinks he's trash that doesn't even deserve to live. Failed yet another comrade. Lost another subordinate. Another he couldn't save."
"Don't touch her," Kakashi snarled but she couldn't tell where he was. She was biding her time before pulling her move.
"What are you going to do about it?" Ko goaded Kakashi. The general's psychotic laughter flitted around them as if he was watching a comedy.
"After she has prised the skin from your flesh I'll carve a real pretty hole through your face." Kakashi suddenly appeared behind his former comrade and whispered into his ear.
Now. She lunged backwards whilst he was distracted and called upon her shadows. The beast emerged from the darkness and crawled towards the ex-shinobi fighting Kakashi. She could see Kakashi dancing around him effortlessly. Kami, he was extraordinary.
Before he knew what hit him he turned to meet the silver hue of the shadow's eyes. It grinned down to him as Ame smiled herself. He didn't have time to escape. The shadow began to pull him into the ground. The sound of his legs breaking echoed around the trees. Bloodcurdling screams ripped from his throat.
"Do you even know what she is?!" his eyes were wide and wild. She looked to Kakashi but he saw him on the defensive looking for his next target. Her heart thundered in her chest and she willed the shadows to drag him down faster. Ame looked around not seeing the other two. The vibrations had ceased, too. After she submerged the now dead nin she activated her eyes. Only she didn't need to.
The General hung upside down above her from a tree branch spectating. The grin on his face stretched inhumanly, predatory. "Spectacular, really. Just like your mother." She flinched at his words. He couldn't know. "I'll pick up where my dear comrade left. Hirawa Akari, Half-human, half-Otsutsuki. But, seeing you here you look less human and more like your mother."
"How do you know my mother?" she demanded. Panic seemed to ravage through her. She didn't want Kakashi to know, at least not like this.
"Akari?" Kakashi's words barely registered with her.
"Oh, well, where should I start. When I slaughtered you, human clan? When I hunted your mother? Or maybe when your father thought he was safe from my grasp and I killed him? Where would you like."
Her eyes had grown wide at all the information. She faintly heard Kakashi fighting the other ex-nin but her heart beat in her ears so loudly she could barely register it. She glanced over but saw he was holding his own. She needed to distract the General so they could take him on together. Like they planned.
"It was you. You're why my parents couldn't be together. Why my mother almost died. Why my clan and my father died." She repeated it barely a whisper as everything fell into place.
"Of course, it was my sole duty. My only purpose from all the High Lord's of the land before I completed my task. I was paid rather handsomely. I think they were quite surprised that I succeeded."
The high lords? They'd commissioned him? My mother? My father?
"How?" How could he fight head-on with an Otsutsuki? She couldn't finish the sentence and the word hung in the air as he flipped down from the tree onto the forest floor and circled her like pray.
"Ah that, I was rather fortunate you see. Seems your mother sacrificed herself for your father. Real romantic watching it." His snide comment seemed to dislodge something in her chest. She couldn't trust him but then again she didn't know anything about her parent's relationship. "She managed to escape before I finished the job. You wouldn't happen to know where she is, do you? My Katana has a date with her stomach."
He suddenly made one-handed seals in both of his hands. She'd never seen anything like it. Who was he?
Fire erupted from the ground and the fire tornado whipped around in a strong wind as she raced upwards to the top of the tree and dove down to the floor of the forest. She had held her breath as the heat felt like she was being cooked. She knew it would burn her lungs. She clamped her eyes shut for the same reason. Her skin was cooking as she collided with the dirt.
She wasted no time and placed a hand on the floor without closing her eyes. The floor began to vibrate and erupt. Powerful cracks shook the earth and molten fire spurted from the earthquake she'd caused. The floor split raced towards the General who's smile only grew wider.
"Incredible. Just like your father. Only stronger." He leapt into a tree but the tree began to sink into the massive lava pit. She grunted against the pain of falling from 20 ft knowingly broken several things. She needed to fight.
"Give up, I have the upper hand."
"Who are you?"
"I'm like you. Half Otsutsuki. Only I don't have that ridiculous seal on my heart." She froze.
"You're, half Otsutsuki?" everything began to make sense.
"Although I don't look it. You seem much purer than I." His lupine grin stretched across his face again like he just couldn't wait to eat her whilst her blood still pumped.
Her legs shook underneath her.
"Give up, you two can't win."
"I wouldn't be so sure." She launched into a full sprint toward him using the rock formations she'd created to her advantage. She withdrew her fathers Katana's and jumped above him. Her feet were higher than her head as time seemed to slow. She hung upside down in the air above the General who smirked at her. She brought her blades down and sliced through his shoulders only she knew it wasn't deep enough. She landed behind him on her feet soundlessly only her body protested and gave out. A single knee crashed to the floor as the broken bones screamed at her. At least he couldn't use his arms now.
"Intelligent too," he quipped as if he was having the best time of his life. She willed herself back to her feet and faced him. His arms hung lower and distorted from his shoulders. It was gruesome enough to disturb Ame. "Unfortunately for you, Akari dear, I still have a few tricks up the proverbial sleeve. Do you think I need hand seals? I'm Otsutsuki."
He stomped and a dragon of fire launched through the earth attempting to coil around her. She leapt backwards only to realise it was a distraction as he charged at her with a kunai in his mouth. She was too unbalanced to dodge his blinding speed completely and he tore through the chain mail and deep into the skin of her bicep. She grunted breathlessly at the deepness and collapsed onto both her knees. She felt the vibration of his foot connecting with the earth again and this time she couldn't dodge it. An earth pillar shot through the ground knocking her onto her front.
Before she knew it he sat on top of her cross-legged and her hands were bound. She had no idea what by nor did she know how he'd done it with his arms incapacitated. She grunted and tried to wriggle free but her broken bones protested and her arm was sliced to the bone.
He leapt up and almost skipped to a rock in her sight.
"It's ok. I won't kill you first. I think I'll use you to bait your captain. Then you can have the honour of watching him beg for his life." He laughed menacingly and her whole body drained of warmth.
She watched from the floor, her chakra low, her energy levels inexistent. Her arm barely staying as one piece, the broken bones squelching and grinding in her body. But really, what he just said was the real reason she was paralysed by terror. She couldn't let him. Not Kakashi. She had to save them. Her hands quivered against the restraints that bit into her wrists.
Green chakra began to glow in the cuts that Ame had given him. Her brows knit together and dread filled her as he reached for his own Katana. No. "It is said that wisdom is gained through suffering and failure," the steel cried against the stone as he sharpened his Katana on the rock roughly, she felt her heart drummed against her ribs, a loud pleading for mercy. Her knees shook against the floor in which they rested. "How does it feel to be wise?" he looked to her, a grin of lupine.
"May I have the privilege of sowing your shroud," she spat as she attempted to struggle against the bindings again. Her body screaming in protest but she needed to. She pushed it all down and focused. Just like in root.
"I don't think you'll be around long enough for that my dear." He rose to his feet when Kakashi suddenly appeared between the two of them. She didn't feel relief. She wanted to scream at him to run. Run Kakashi.
"I swear if you stop me I'll stare Kami in the face as I drag you to hell with me." Kakashi held his Katana out, fresh redness dripping from it. She knew he hadn't got any chakra left that's why he couldn't use his jutsu's. It's why he took so long with the other subordinate.
"A smart Shinobi like you giving up your life for a half breed? When it comes to her, you're just a man aren't you?"
Kakashi
He shouldn't have been surprised. He should've tried better to hide it. Hide how he felt for Akari but he wasn't sure he could. He knew he was using her to bait him. It worked. He'd heard their conversation but he wasn't sure what was true. Akari didn't admit to anything. He didn't have the time to consider that. All he knew was the man in front of him was going to kill Ame and he would raise hell to stop him, and nothing would stop Kakashi.
He charged forward. His own Katana being engaged with the Generals. His skill and speed were unparalleled. Kakashi's body was tired and his mind couldn't keep up. If it wasn't for his Sharingan he wasn't sure he would. He pushed through the pain and past the limits of his physical capabilities. Each clash of the metal rang in his ears as he felt himself grow slower and slower. He felt like he was being played with. But, he still had one strategy left. All he had really.
He didn't see it coming. The General didn't perform any seals. With the hand that wasn't holding his katana flame engulfed his arm like armour and it was suddenly around Kakashi's throat.
The pain of the burning was indescribable. He roared through clenched teeth as the flames whipped around his face. He felt his mask burn off until he was released. He panted for oxygen but everything hurt. Everything burned.
He was on his hands and knees panicked and wide-eyed unable to breathe properly. The cackling laughter of the General reverberating around his head.
"Kakashi!" Akari's voice only willed him to get back to his feet. He shakily rose to his feet and dragged his katana up as he did.
"You don't understand, I've already won." The General laughed from behind him. Kakashi mustered his strength and whipped around to see him kneeling into Akari's back. He applied pressure and she screamed and writhed in pain. His heart faltered as his blood ran cold. He couldn't let this end here. Couldn't let Akari die.
"Kneel." The General commanded. Kakashi's limbs began to tremble in fear. He couldn't take his eyes from Ame's face contorted in sheer pain. "Kneel!" the General's simmering chaotic rage reached boiling point and he screamed as he pressed his knee further into Aki's back.
Kakashi shook as he fell to his knees. He couldn't think of what to do. He couldn't think of how to win. He didn't know how to save her. The sounds of her screams would haunt him.
"Please," he whispered, void of hope. "Please not her." His stare was almost vacant. The Generals laughter drowned out by Akari's screams.
"Stay there like a good boy and I'll make sure you two can go hand in hand to hell's gates." He promised, Kakashi could hear the smile in his words. If he tried to fight him, he'd kill her and then he'd die. But, if he didn't do anything they both would die.
I'm sorry Akari.
He looked down to her to the side of him. Rays of sun filtered through the tree canopy mockingly warming his face. But, he didn't take his eyes from her. Not even as the General rose to his feet. Not as he walked around to his front. He knew what was coming.
"Akari," Kakashi began. "I-"
A beam of white orange fire illuminated the forest. Kakashi's body jerked back on his knees as the blinding light flashed through his chest and out the other side. He didn't take his eyes off her. Not as she screamed his name. Not as fear contorted her face.
Time seemed to slow as his body fell to the floor. He was glad the last thing he saw would be her face. He failed to protect her. His body began to feel numb. He couldn't feel his legs. The pain was like nothing he'd ever felt. He was fighting unconsciousness. He knew that when he shut his eyes, they wouldn't open again. He hung onto consciousness, just to see her face for a few more seconds.
Akari.
