A/N: Hey! So, I was originally planning on ending it with this chapter, but I've decided on something different. After we get a good ways into season 5, I'm going to add onto this story based off of some of the content, like I've done with these chapters. Until then, I'm going to focus on my other multi-chapter that is still in progress. I appreciate you reading and reviewing this, and I look forward to revisiting it later on!

Street had just been tested to see if he was a match for the transplant surgery, and was still awaiting the results. They wouldn't be in until later this evening. He wasn't completely sure what he'd do if the results came back positive, but he did know that he needed to talk to his mom again.

She had lied to him, and he wanted to see what she had to say for herself this time. Since the test was taken at the hospital, Street decided to just go pay her a visit now, so here he was for the second time in four days. He knocked on the door, finding this way too similar to last time.

"Jimmy! Oh, this is wonderful!"

"Hi."

"With this luck I'm going to have to bribe the nurse to buy me a lotto ticket." She cheerfully smiled up at him.

He just leaned against the counter, ready to get this over with as soon as possible. "You knew about the possible transplant surgery, and that I could be a donor. Why didn't you tell me the truth, instead of having the doctors ask me about it?"

"It's not easy talking to your son about dying, especially when it's because of stupid life choices." She let out a deep breath. "You're right, I should have told you the truth. I just thought that you might not come back if you knew."

"Well, I'm here today because I got tested… to see if I'm a match. I don't know the results yet."

"Oh, Jimmy you didn't have to."

"I know."

"What about SWAT? Couldn't it cause problems for your job?"

Street stopped her before she went any further. "I said I got tested. I didn't say I had made up my mind to donate."

"I-I don't understand."

He stepped closer to the bed. "This reeks of you trying to work me over…yet again."

"I didn't ask for your help."

"No. You didn't ask me straight up because you're too smart for that. You know exactly which parts of me to appeal to."

"I see how it is… you're little SWAT girlfriend got in your head."

Street was instantly confused. "What are you talking about?"

"That Christina, or whatever her name is… she's trouble. You should know better than to get mixed up with her."

Why was she talking about Chris? "I don't know what you're talking about."

"She came here the other day, and threatened me. She said not to involve you, and that you'd be better off without talking to me."

Street didn't know what to think about that, he had no idea she had been to see his mom. "Okay, I didn't ask Chris to do that."

Karen scoffed. "And I'm demanding and manipulative?" She sat forward in the bed. "Jimmy, I appreciate you being here, and no matter what happens, we will always be family."

Yeah, because that was making him feel good right now. He stayed silent for a moment, still in thought about Chris. She hadn't mentioned anything about coming here. Street briefly wondered if his mom was lying about this, but what would have made her think of Chris? She had never met her, and Street hadn't mentioned her to her since she lived with him. No, Chris had definitely come to visit, she hadn't been too supportive when he told her about the surgery.

He would have to talk to Chris as soon as he got the chance, but right now he needed to leave for shift.

For awhile, Street had to put aside his problems regarding his mom and Chris. The team had caught a rough trafficking case, and it had been a hectic morning. They had already been in a shootout, and rescued a victim, but there were still more out there with the escaped suspects.

Tan and Lynch were in with the young woman now, so Street found himself with nothing to do for a few minutes. He seen Chris go in the kitchen a little while ago, so he went to see if she was still in there.

She was, and Street pushed past the door as she pulled something from the refrigerator. "Chris, when were you going to tell me?"

She took a sip of her drink. "Tell you what?"

Was she serious? "That you went to the hospital to see my mom."

"I just warned her not to mess with your life again… but I guess she didn't take it to heart."

Street couldn't deny that he was a little pissed. "You shouldn't have done that, Chris. It's none of your business." He went to walk off, but Chris was right behind him.

"It's a major surgery, Street, and it could cause serious problems- infections, blood clots, and that's just the start."

Had she done research on this? "I know the risks, but what's your point?"

She looked incredulous. "It could put your job, or even your life on the line."

Street sighed, they'd been over this before.

"She's manipulating you, just like she always does."

"I know that, Chris, but it's still my choice to make, not yours… I need you to respect that." This time, he did walk away. A part of him understood why she did it. She was looking out for him, and he knew if the roles were reversed, he'd fight like hell to make sure she didn't do something like that to risk her life… but at the same time, she went behind his back.

Chris noticed the concerned looks she was getting from Deacon, as she'd been pretty silent except when they were talking about the case. They had just been to the hospital conducting an interview, but now that they were finished with that, she could allow herself to think over this morning.

Street was mad at her right now, but she wasn't worried about that so much as what he was considering doing. She hadn't actually planned on telling Street about going to see Karen, and maybe that was wrong, but she was protective of him… and there weren't many other things she could do about his current situation.

As the day went on, Chris' frustration only grew… but now it was about the case. There were still missing women out there, and Chris couldn't stand the thoughts of what they were going through, and the way they were being used. She was desperate to find any sort of lead that would allow them to nail the bastards responsible.

It wasn't until later that evening when the team found themselves on their way to, hopefully, put an end to the case. Thankfully, they were able to rescue a few more girls earlier, but there were two more, and a suspect that needed to be brought in.

As soon as the team pulled into the truck stop, they could see the suspect trying to flee. Chris and Street cleared the suspect's vehicle, and found one of the hostages. That was a relief, but it was short lived as the suspect had just took off in a fuel tank with the remaining hostage.

20-Squad quickly jumped into the vehicles. Hondo and Tan were in Black Betty, while Chris and Street took off in their respective chargers, Deacon riding passenger to Chris.

Thanks to the suspects rough getaway attempt, the tank was leaking gas, and the team knew it could blow at any moment. The only way they could stop it would be for Tan to get in front, but that was proving to be difficult as the suspect seen him coming every time. "I can't get a window!"

"I'm on it." Street's voice was next over the radio, and Chris knew she probably wouldn't like what he had planned. "Here comes your window, I'm going to draw him to the right."

Chris and Deacon were behind Street, and she held her breath as she watched him pull up beside the tank. It didn't take long for the suspect to spot him, and he veered to the side, hitting Street's charger and sending him off the side of the road.

Chris' heart momentarily stopped, and only returned to normal once she heard Street's voice again. "I got him off-balance."

Thanks to Street's maneuver, the suspect lost control of the tank, and it immediately screeched to a stop. It burst into flames, and Hondo and Tan scrambled into action. Hondo was able to shoot the suspect in the shoulder, and pull him out while Tan made sure the hostage got out.

The flames were quickly engulfing the truck, and Chris knew they were just about out of time. "Fall back!" Everyone took cover behind the vehicles, just as the tank exploded. Even from Chris' position, she could feel the heat of the flames on her face, and was just grateful that everyone made it far enough away.

Chris knew she had to face Street at some point before leaving HQ for the night. She probably needed to apologize and explain why she went to see Karen. Seeing Luca in the Eagle's Nest, she made a quick detour. "Hey, um, has Street left yet?"

"No, I think he went to the locker room."

"Thanks." She gave a small smile, and went in search of Street. Sure enough, he was where Luca said he'd be, but he had just grabbed his back pack and was getting ready to leave. He closed his locker, and made for the other exit as soon as she came in.

"Street, wait, please." The irony wasn't lost on her, as she was usually the one walking away from him. He stopped and faced her, though she could tell he did so reluctantly. "I know the thing with your mom isn't my business, and I shouldn't have gotten in involved. I-I'm sorry. I will never understand how someone as crazy as her created you… but I trust you more than anyone, and that has to be enough." She wasn't exactly sure why, but she felt the need to tell him that right now.

Street nodded, and Chris could see his expression soften a bit. "I got the test results."

Chris sucked in a breath.

"I'm a match… and I'm going to do it."

"Are you insane?"

"That doesn't really sound like an apology, Chris."

"Screw the apology! How could you do this after everything she has put you through?!" She probably needed to tone it down, but she didn't really care at the moment.

"Chris, you've got to let this go. It's not your problem."

"It is my problem! You're my problem." She hadn't meant to say that, but now it was out, and he was going to want answers.

His voice was barely above a whisper. "Wh-what does that mean?"

She closed her eyes for a moment, trying to figure out how to say this. Now, it was time to be completely honest. "Remember when you, uh, told me that if you lost me, you'd never recover? Because of how you felt?"

He nodded, and Chris couldn't tell if his expression was sad or hopeful.

She stepped towards him, and she couldn't help but glance down at his lips. "I can't lose you either."

They stared at each other for a moment, neither saying a word. The room was so quiet, the only sound that could be heard was their breathing. Chris was so close to just leaning in and kissing him… and the door opened.

Luca's voice broke them from their moment, and Chris stepped away taking note of the disappointment on Street's face.

"Kings-Sharks tonight! Pizza's on me if you guys are down to watch!"

Street was the first to speak. "Rain check, buddy. Long day."

"Yeah, me too, but thanks." Chris really wasn't down for hanging out tonight. She could feel Street's eyes on her for a brief moment, but then he was quickly heading for the door.

She had to leave too, the room was suddenly suffocating her. "I'll see you tomorrow, Luca."

"Yeah. Have a good night."

She returned the sentiment and got out as soon as she could. She had revealed way more to Street than she had planned, but now they knew where each other stood… not that anything could happen.

Street's head was spinning as he left HQ. He wasn't ready to go home yet, so he detoured to the beach. After parking his bike, he walked out close to the shore. It was well past dark, and there was a slight breeze in the air.

The past week had been crazy, and his problems were far from over… but all he could think about was Chris, and her words from tonight.

Street wasn't stupid, he could tell before that she had some sort of feelings for him, but he had been waiting forever to actually hear her say it.

I can't lose you either.

Of course she could have just meant that she couldn't lose her friend and teammate, but the way she stepped close to him, and dropped her gaze to his lips, suggested there was a lot more to it.

Street found a spot to sit, where he could still be near the water, and he let the sound of the waves calm his racing mind. The area was beautiful, and he was sure Chris would love it. Maybe he could bring her out here some time.

SWATSWAT

Chris was sitting in her truck when Street pulled in beside her. It had been a few days since her confession in the locker room, and they hadn't really had a chance to speak during that time. Street had several check-ins and consultations with the doctors, and Chris was preparing for TLI. She would be leaving early in the morning with Luca to go to Germany.

Seeing Street get off his bike, Chris jumped out of her truck. "Hey."

"Hey."

"Did you have your final check-in?"

"Yeah. I get admitted to the hospital tomorrow, then the surgery is the next day." They shared a soft smile before Deacon walked over. They talked to him for a moment, but were in for a surprise when Tan showed up carrying a suit.

Chris was happy for him that he and Bonnie were finally going to get married. They had been waiting forever, so she was glad to see a smile on his face. They all fist bumped him and headed in for shift.

Chris branched off from the others when she seen what was being put up on the wall not far from the entrance. She knew what it was, it had been in the works for the past week, so she was glad to see it finally being put up.

Luca came over to join her. "Is that what I think it is?"

She nodded. "Yeah, the memorial plaque for Erika. It will be unveiled next week during a ceremony… which you and I will not be able to attend."

"Listen, Chris… I tried to push our flight to next week instead, but…"

"It's all good. I've said my goodbyes." She would have liked to been at the ceremony, but there wasn't anything that could be done, and right now she was in a better place in dealing with what happened. She told herself that going to Germany for TLI was for Erika… after all she didn't think she could have made it so far without the young woman. "It's nice that no one has forgotten her."

Luca nodded. "No one ever will, Chris." He gave her a small smile. "Well, one more shift, then we're off to Germany. You ready for that?"

"Yeah, I am."

Chris, Street and Tan were all in the locker room, and they knew it was going to be a long shift. Someone had put a bomb in a police station, and most of the city was shutting down. That meant no courthouse for Tan to get married in.

Chris cringed as Tan left the room looking pretty defeated.

"That really sucks."

Chris turned to Street as they were both grabbing things from their lockers. "See? Relationships aren't easy, even for people who are perfect for each other."

Street gave her a pointed look. "Is that you admitting that we're perfect for each other?"

Yes. "You mean besides the whole fraternization rule?"

"Which is exactly why we…" He trailed off when someone passed by the door. "Which is why we need to talk about us… preferably before you hop on a plane for the summer."

Chris smirked at him, and moved to where he was standing. "You've got to give this up. Our situation is impossible."

Street shook his head. "I'm not ready to concede that point yet."

"There's a bombing suspect on the lose. " She couldn't think about his hopeful gaze right now.

"You're dodging the issue."

She smiled at him. "Yes I am, so move." She pointed to the door. "Now."

He laughed and turned to leave. "Okay, okay."

She followed after him, knowing she had to keep focused right now. This was definitely going to be a long day.

20-Squad had tracked down the man they originally believed was responsible for the bombing, but it didn't take long to realize it was all a set up. The Imperial Dukes were back, and they had orchestrated the whole thing. Right now, the team was waiting on orders for their next moves, so Street was in the armory with Chris, prepping some new equipment.

He hoped he wasn't being too obvious today, especially in front of the team, as he hadn't been able to keep his eyes off of Chris. He was elated just knowing that she harbored the same feelings, but now he just needed to convince her to take a chance on them.

"These new units are sweet."

Street looked up at the sound of her voice, but she was still adjusting the device on her wrist. "Yeah, they're a lot less bulky. We don't have to just talk about new equipment though. We wouldn't be breaking any rules by talking about our situation."

She finally met his eyes. "Okay, but we both agree that rules are important."

"Which is why I could transfer to a different department. We'd be golden." He had thought a lot about that, and it was something he was willing to do. He'd do anything for her.

"I can't let you do that."

"For me, it's worth it."

"Losing SWAT? Losing this team you care so much about?"

"If it means I get to be with you." Of course he cared about the team, but he cared about Chris more.

She looked away for a moment, seemingly deep in thought. "We can't start our relationship under pressure like that, it's crazy. We'd probably break up in about a month, so then what?"

Despite her talking about a break up already, Street was encouraged by her words. She had obviously given it consideration. "So you're open to at least giving it a shot."

She sighed, and Street could see the dejected look in her eyes. "I wish this was all as easy as you want to make it."

"Chris, listen to me. We've both tried moving on, we've tried ignoring how we feel, but this thing is real… it always has been. That's as simple as it gets."

She nodded, but they stayed silent as another officer went by the armory. The last thing they needed was someone overhearing them. "Except I've got to think about my career in a way that you don't. That's real too, Street." She didn't wait on him to say anything else, not that he knew what to say anyways.

He watched as she walked away, and he couldn't help but feel she was taking a piece of his heart with her. He knew she had to be really careful about her job. They both did, but her especially. He didn't want to do anything to risk her losing SWAT… he would quit his own job before he let that happen.

Street was relieved that the case was finally over. He had a pretty big role in the takedown, so he was currently coming down from an adrenaline rush. He knew he needed to catch Chris before she left, because her flight to Germany was tomorrow morning, and he wanted to be able to say good bye.

Knowing she had been headed to the locker room a few minutes ago, Street headed that way himself. She was getting ready to come out as he opened the door, but he let it close behind him and she stepped closer.

"I'm going to postpone leaving for TLI." That was not what he was expecting to hear. "I really don't think I can leave until you're out of surgery and I know you're okay."

"The dates are firm, Chris."

"If they're mad that I have to come late, then I don't even need to go."

This was a totally different direction than the conversation in the armory. "You just told a couple of hours ago that you need to be careful with your career."

"Do you want me to care about what happens to you, or not?"

Street chuckled at Chris' stubbornness. "Listen, I'm going to be fine. The doctor promises almost definitely a full recovery… and you worked so hard to earn this ticket. You absolutely cannot blow that off… even for something as great as me." He gave her a wry smile, and was glad to see her return it.

She nodded. "We still don't have a solution to us."

"We'll keep talking. I mean, we're highly skilled officers with extensive negotiation training… we'll figure something out."

"Okay," she whispered.

"Okay."

She moved towards the door, and he turned around to watch her. Suddenly, she stopped and was right back in front of him. Before he knew what was happening, her hands were on his face, and her lips were covering his in a breath-stealing kiss. He immediately placed his hands on her shoulders, and opened his mouth to deepen the kiss. He couldn't quite believe this was happening, but it was all he could've asked for, and he couldn't get enough of how sweet she tasted.

He moved his hands to cup her cheeks, and placed his forehead against hers as they broke apart. They stayed like that for a moment, both breathing heavily, until Chris pulled back and took his hands in hers. "Call me after the surgery."

He alternated between looking at her dark eyes, and looking at her lips that he so desperately wanted to kiss again. "The second I wake up."

She nodded, and they shared one more look before she let go of his hands and walked out the door.

Street wasn't sure how long he stood in the exact same spot. He thought maybe he was in shock. Chris kissing him had been totally unexpected, but it was something he'd be replaying in his mind for a long time. He was relieved that she was willing to take a chance on being with him, that was all he ever wanted. He had no idea how it was going to work with their jobs, but he was willing to do anything. They would figure something out, he was sure of it. What he wasn't sure of was how he was going to make it with her being in Germany for so long. Then again, maybe that was a good thing. It would give them time to figure out their next steps.

He was happy for Chris, because she had worked so hard for this opportunity, and he was so proud of her. The fact that she was willing to postpone, or even blow off TLI completely, warmed his heart… but he would never let her do that.

He sighed, finally moving from his spot in front of the lockers. It was going to be a long summer, and he was going to miss Chris like crazy. He was already wishing for the day she was back… but it would be worth the wait, Street was sure of that.
