EPISODE 3: #MORTALENEMIES
Author´s Note: Since we´re going all out with having fun with the cast choices anyway, the part of John Dahmer (who FYI is named after John Wayne Gacy and Jeffrey Dahmer for reasons that will soon be made clear in the story. Look them up (if you have a strong stomach) and you´ll see what I mean) is played by what at the time of filming was a 19 year old recently started wrestler, that no one at the time knew would be a future megastar among wrestling fans in All Elite Wrestling, Maxwell Jacob Friedman (real name Maxwell Tyler Friedman), better known as MJF. How they would have heard of him at this time we´ll leave to the gods to figure out, but he´s amazing at playing an absolute jerk, clearly loves doing so and has the size, the acting abilities and the fighting abililties for the part.
With that out of the way, thanks for continuing to follow the story and in the immortal words of legendary ring announcer Michael Buffer: "LET´S GET READY TO RUMBLE!"
1. Int. Classroom. Day.
Grace and Gabriel are alone in an otherwise empty classroom. She´s got her laptop out and is showing him something.
Grace:
This was some job, you put me on! I had to hack their mainframe to get the IP address, before I could pair it up with local listings ...
Gabriel:
You´re talking to a computer illiterate. I know how to surf the web and that´s it.
Grace:
It led me to an address in Billings, Montana. Isn´t that where you come from?
Gabriel:
Let me guess. The family is named Dahmer?
Grace:
You already suspected it, didn´t you?
Gabriel gets up and starts pacing the room in frustration.
Gabriel:
I knew that son of a bitch couldn´t leave well enough alone!
Grace:
Is he the guy, whose arms you broke?
Gabriel looks surprised, that she knew.
Grace:
You think, I didn´t do a thorough background check on you, the day you started here? It didn´t take many clicks to to find out, that you did eight months in juvie for aggravated assault.
Gabriel:
Have you told anyone?
Grace:
Not yet. Then again, that could change, unless you tell me the truth.
Gabriel rubs his temples, clearly not wanting to talk about it, but gives in.
Gabriel:
One of the sons is named John. Him and me, We´ve never liked each other. If you ask me, he´s as lousy of a human being, as they come.
Grace:
Was that enough reason to break his arms?
He comes over to her and looks her dead in the eyes.
Gabriel:
What I´m about to tell you, doesn´t leave this room. If people find out, they´ll start looking at me differently and my chances for a fresh start will be out the window.
Grace:
Okay, if it´s that important to you.
Gabriel:
A year and a half ago, one of my friends, a girl. She killed herself.
Grace looks taken aback by his answer and has to compose herself.
Grace:
I´m sorry. That´s awful.
Gabriel:
That piece of human waste drugged her, so she couldn´t fight back, held her prisoner for a day and raped her, time and time again! Only he never paid for it, because the only one she told was me, before she jumped off a highway bridge. I was there with her, when she did it.
Grace:
Wow!
Gabriel:
I tried to convince her not to, but he´d broken her beyond repair. I went straight to a place, I knew he hung out at. If there hadn´t been so many to pull me off him, I would have beaten him to death.
Grace:
Looking at you, I believe you could! Sorry, my mind needs a moment to process this!
He awaits anxiously, as she tries to gather her thoughts.
Gabriel:
I´m not a violent psychopath, who´ll go off and attack some random person. I talked a lot to a counsellor in Juvie and he helped me to at least try to channel my anger into something positive. One stint behind bars was enough.
Grace:
I won´t tell anyone. Not unless I have no other choice.
Gabriel looks relieved.
Gabriel:
Would you believe my luck, that he´s coming here for the wrestling meet?
Grace:
Need any help?
Gabriel:
He´s my problem. I´ll take care of him.
Gabriel tries to look brave, but would still clearly rather not have to deal with his past again.
OPENING CREDITS
2. Int. Foyer. Morning.
Zoe is having a talk with a cheerful looking Frankie before school starts.
Frankie:
Lola´s mood has been so great, that it can´t help rubbing off.
Zoe:
Where is she? Shouldn´t she be here by now?
Frankie:
We just need to look for the first girl, who´s floating around on a pink, fluffy cloud!
Zoe:
There aren´t many of those around.
Lola comes in the doors, almost dancing as she makes her way to them through the crowd, which makes them smile.
Lola:
Isn´t this the best day ever?
Frankie:
You said the same thing yesterday!
Lola:
It must be true then!
Zoe:
Is someone looking forward to seeing Gabriel in action?
Lola:
Is it wrong of me to? It´s not that I like violence, but ...
Zoe:
You still want to see it for yourself.
Lola:
Yeah. Just once, at least.
Frankie:
You´re excused on the basis of basic animal instincts. Face it, Lola. You´re no better than the Romans were!
Lola:
They weren´t all bad. Even the Judean People´s Front had to admit it.
Zoe:
Wasn´t it The People´s Front of Judea?
Frankie:
I thought it was the Popular Front.
Lola/Zoe:
No, he was a splitter!
They laugh.
Frankie:
One thing we can agree on, is that we´ve all watched "Life of Brian" too many times.
Lola:
There is no such thing!
Zoe:
I´ll see you later, girls.
Lola:
Have fun!
Zoe leaves them and Frankie looks happy for Lola, who´s clearly been on cloud nine lately.
3. Int. Hallway. Day.
Zoe meets up with Goldi and Rhasa, who she hugs.
Zoe:
Good morning. Have you decided on whether you´re coming to the meet tonight or not?
Rhasa:
I´m coming.
Goldi:
I can´t. My grandparents are coming over for their weekly visit and my parents want me to be there.
Zoe:
There´ll be other meets. Don´t worry.
Goldi:
It´s not that I don´t want to, believe me. It´s the exact same every week.
Zoe:
At least you have a family. It isn´t much fun being persona non grata in your childhood home either, believe me! Ah, here comes the team´s new star!
Gabriel comes over to them. Him and Goldi smile nervously at each other.
Rasha:
How is the school´s star athlete feeling this morning?
Gabriel:
Not feeling much like a star, I´m afraid. How are you, Goldi?
Goldi:
Okay, I guess.
Gabriel:
Good! It´d good that you´re, you know, okay.
She smiles at his nervous rambling, as do Zoe and Rasha.
Zoe:
Did you want anything, other than to say good morning?
Gabriel:
Can we talk in private for a sec, Zoe?
Zoe:
Sure.
Rasha:
We´ll see you in class.
Goldi and Rasha walk off. Gabriel looks serious, as he looks Zoe in the eyes.
Gabriel:
I got another message from him. He wants to meet up at lunch outside of school.
Zoe:
For a fight?
Gabriel:
He knows that I won´t do anything so stupid and get myself kicked out. My guess is that it´s to gloat.
Zoe:
Over what? Being the worst guy to walk the face of the earth?
Gabriel:
I´m sure there´s worse guys somewhere.
Zoe:
If there is, then I don´t want to meet them!
Gabriel:
Maybe I should fake an illness or something. If I never see his face again, it´ll still be too soon.
They´re interrupted, when Petrino comes over to them.
Petrino:
Grizzly, I´m glad, I caught you.
Gabriel:
What´s up, coach?
Petrino:
The guy you were supposed to wrestle is out with an injury, or that´s what they told us. Maybe he saw a picture of you and got cold feet, what do I know? Anyway, you´ll be wrestling against an alternate.
Gabriel:
Do we know anything about him?
Petrino:
Only that his name is John Dahmer.
Neither Zoe or Gabriel are too happy or surprised for that matter. Petrino notices.
Petrino:
Do you know this guy?
Gabriel:
More than I´d like to.
Petrino smiles and gets all giddy for once!
Petrino:
Now you have me looking forward to it!
He gives Gabriel a pad on the shoulder, as he walks off to class. Zoe and Gabriel both know that this is trouble coming his way and in a big way at that!
4. Ext. Degrassi. Day.
A boy of around 18 comes walking up to the school. He´s not Gabriel´s massive size, but not much smaller than him. He smiles smugly, as he sees Frankie talking to Shaye and Tiny, who are holding hands and walk over to them. They´re weirded out by him approaching them like this.
John:
If I was looking for a big freak, where should I go?
All three are taken aback by his way of talking to them.
Tiny:
Excuse me?
John:
A big guy, goes by the name Gabriel. I need to find him.
Frankie:
He´s probably around here somewhere. He isn´t hard to find.
John smiles at Frankie in a way, that makes her skin crawl.
John:
What´s your name, cutie?
Tiny:
Her name is none of your business!
John looks mockingly at Tiny, who steps between him and the girls, who happily hide behind Tiny.
John:
Aren´t you the big, strong protector? Do you know what happens to guys like you?
Shaye:
Leave us alone!
John:
They end up marrying some bitch, who pushes them around and ruins their lives, because they´re not man enough to put her in her place! Now, where is Gabriel?
He doesn´t see Gabriel coming up behind him, looking much scarier than we usually see him.
Gabriel:
You don´t have to look any further.
John turns around and the two make eye contact. It´s clear to see that there´s absolutely no love lost between them. So much that it´s starting to freak Frankie and Shaye out, while Tiny has clearly seen this before far too many times for someone his age.
Shaye:
We should get inside.
Tiny:
I agree.
The three of them walk past them and Tiny stares him down on the way, while the girls can´t get away fast enough.
John:
Is that the way you welcome everyone?
Gabriel:
What in the hell are you doing here? I came to Canada, to get away from you.
John:
Believe it or not, your cowardly attack on me got people talking. It wasn´t long before things became very unfriendly for me down in Billings.
Gabriel:
Watch me weep for you!
John:
You didn´t know that my grandmother is Canadian, did you? It made it very easy to get a transfer up here, especially since I don´t have a record, like you do. I gotta say though, I like those Canadian girls! They´re so trusting. You´d think their parents had warned them, not to trust just anyone with their well being.
Gabriel:
Say what you want to say. Then never come back again!
John smiles mockingly at him, as he circles him like a predator getting ready to strike at it´s prey. Gabriel is completely unfazed by his attempt to get the mental upper hand on him and refuses to follow him with his eyes.
John:
Or what, Grizzly? You´re still working off the part of your sentence, they made suspended, aren´t you?
Gabriel´s silence gives him a small victory. making him even more smug.
John:
If you lay a hand on me, it´s back to juvie for you. How would your whore mom and the half man feel about that?
He stops circling Gabriel and stares him in the eyes.
Gabriel:
All I want to do is move on.
John:
Then we have something in common. Only you see, I´m vindictive, like you wouldn´t believe. Those months with my arms in casts followed by even more months of rehabilitation, the thought that kept me going through it all, was how much I truly hate you with every fiber in my body. Which was why I had it fixed, so we would wrestle each other.
Gabriel:
I had a feeling ...
John:
Silence, bear. Your master is talking.
Gabriel fights the urge to punch him as hard as he can, digging him fingernails into his palms, until they actually start bleeding.
John:
Unless you want your past to become public knowledge, you will do as I say. All I have to do is call my ten year old little brother back in Billings and he´ll make sure that it spreads like a wildfire in no time. I´m not into all of that stuff, since I have an actual life, but he has nothing better to do with his time, now that all of his old friend´s parents don´t want their kids to play with him anymore. In his eyes, you took his brother and his friends away from him. He hates you, almost as much as I do. It wasn´t like his or my parents lives became easier, when people started talking. On behalf of myself and them, I want to humiliate you and make you feel, like you made me feel that night. I´ll make you scream for mercy!
Gabriel:
HOW DO YOU THINK, SHE FELT?
Gabriel can take no more and tries a kick to John in the head with a circular kick, but John is quick to duck it and quickly takes a few steps back.
John:
Easy there, Grizzly! Save your strength for tonight. Not that you´ll need it to give up, after I wipe the floor with you!
Gabriel tries another kick at him, but John is quick to move and hits him with a an extremely hard punch right to the solar plexus, that sends Gabriel to his knees, as he tries to get his breath back. John eyes him with utter contempt.
John:
You´re not the only one, who´s picked up new moves, since we last saw each other. Don´t even think about no showing. You know what I´m capable of.
Gabriel:
This isn´t over!
John:
You´re right. It won´t be, until I say it is.
He walks away from Gabriel, who´s still recovering.
We see that Tiny watched all of it from the doors to the school.
5. Int. Hallway. Day.
Tiny is telling the story to Zig.
Tiny:
I´m telling you, both of those dudes had murder in their eyes!
Zig:
You really think, they wanted to kill each other?
Tiny:
I´ve seen that look before. This time, it even sent chills down my spine! I´ve never seen it as clear as that before.
Grace and Maya come over to them.
Maya:
What are we talking about?
Zig:
Lola´s new psycho boyfriend!
Maya:
Not that I know him, but he seems nice enough.
Tiny:
You didn´t see what I saw! Him and some big creepy dude went at it Godzilla vs Mothra style!
Grace:
There´s more to the story, than meets the eye.
The other three look surprised that she clearly knows something, they don´t.
6. Int. Classroom. Day.
Zig and Tiny are trying to take in what Grace has told them before class starts.
Tiny:
I could feel that something seemed off with him, but ... oh, my god!
Zig:
Jesus Christ!
Tiny:
I never knew you were religious.
Zig:
I´m not.
Tiny:
Me neither. I still hope there´s a particularly nasty place in hell reserved for that guy!
Zig:
Amen!
Tiny:
How can anyone do that to a girl?
Zig:
I´ve hurt them emotionally, but it´s not like I meant for it to happen.
Tiny:
To do what he did and not regret it, you have to be a stone cold psycho!
Zig:
Are you thinking what I´m thinking?
Tiny:
It´s time we attend our first wrestling meet?
They fist bump on it.
7. Int. Gabriel´s Room. Day.
Gabriel is lying on his bed wrestling with what to do. There´s a knock on the door.
Gabriel:
Yeah?
The door opens and his dad comes in.
Marcus:
Don´t you have a meet to get ready for?
Gabriel:
I´m not sure, if I´m going.
Marcus:
You´re going. They´re counting on you.
Gabriel sits up and looks his dad in the eyes.
Gabriel:
You don´t understand. I´m wrestling John tonight.
Marcus is taken aback by the mention of his name.
Gabriel:
He had his little brother find out that I go to Degrassi and he´s here for revenge. Unless I let him embarrass me tonight, he´ll make sure that the whole school knows what I did. He´s got me by the balls. Hard!
Marcus:
You´re still going.
Gabriel gets frustrated.
Gabriel:
Didn´t you hear me? I can´t go out there and let him beat me!
Marcus:
Why not?
Gabriel:
Because ... I just can´t, okay?
Marcus:
It´s not okay. What´s the real reason?
Gabriel:
I told you. He´s ...
Marcus:
The real reason is your pride, isn´t it?
Gabriel sees that his dad is probably right and nods.
Gabriel:
Zoe, Lola, all of the people I know at school will be there. I´ll be a walking laughing stock afterwards! Plus, I just hate that guy! I can´t let him win like this!
Marcus:
So your solution is to cower and hide? Since when has that worked for anyone?
Gabriel calms back down and they smile at each other.
Gabriel:
It didn´t work out too well for Saddam or Bin Laden, did it?
Marcus:
The only way to face a bully is head on. I know that someone your size probably never expected this to happen to you, but now it is. So, what are you gonna do about it?
Gabriel:
If he tells everyone and they only get his version of the story, I´ll come off as a crazy guy, who broke his arms for no reason. Zoe will be the only one left, who´ll dare talk to me.
Marcus:
Not that I´m their biggest fan or anything, but why do you think China is able to control the biggest population on earth, the way they do?
Gabriel:
Repression comes to mind.
Marcus:
It´s because in China, the government solely controls the narrative. Anyone can come off as a hero or a villain, depending on how you tell the story.
His words start to sink in with Gabriel.
Gabriel:
If I tell the story first, from my point of view, I can control the narrative?
Marcus:
It starts with showing that guy, what you´re made of. We both know that you´ve never been one to lie down and roll over.
Gabriel nods in agreement.
Gabriel:
What if I still can´t beat him?
Marcus:
There´s no shame in losing to someone, who´s better than you. Only in this case, I don´t think you will. Get ready. We leave in fifteen minutes.
Marcus leaves him and Gabriel looks full of fight now!
8. Ext. Degrassi. Evening.
People are streaming up to the school for the evening´s wrestling meet. While waiting for Rasha, Zoe is talking to Lola and Frankie.
Lola:
Do any of you know what the rules are?
Frankie:
It´s something with takedowns and stuff. Anyway, aren´t we here to check out guys?
Zoe looks around nervously and can´t stop twitching. Frankie notices it.
Frankie:
She´ll be here soon. Don´t worry.
Zoe:
It´s not that. I´d rather just get this over with.
Lola:
Aren´t you looking forward to seeing Gabriel win?
Zoe doesn´t get a chance to answer, as Zig, Tiny and Grace come over to them. The others are surprised to see them.
Lola:
Since when are you interested in school sports?
Zig:
We´re here for the intimate guy on guy action, we´ll have you know!
Tiny puts his arm around Zig, as they smile teasingly at the girls. Grace just shakes her head at it.
Tiny:
There´s a lot, you don´t know about us!
The girls laugh, as Zig and Tiny let go of each other.
Zoe:
Seriously, you can´t be here to show school spirit!
Grace:
They´re here for the same reason you are.
Her and Zoe smile at each other and Zoe gets the unsaid message. Lola and Frankie look confused.
Zoe:
Got ya!
Lola:
Is there something we should know?
Grace:
I have a feeling that you will soon, Blue.
Zig:
Let´s get inside. Now that we´re here, we might as well see some guys get their asses pounded.
Tiny eyes him for his comment and he realises that it might have come off wrong.
Zig:
Not in a ... you know ... gay sex way.
Tiny:
I seriously hope not!
They start to head inside, just as Rasha comes running up to them.
Rasha:
Wait for me!
Her and Zoe hug and hold hands, as they follow the others inside. Lola and Frankie look a little confused, as they continue to ponder what Grace just said..
9. Int. Gymnasium. Evening.
The gymnasium has been set up with two rings in the center, so that two matches can be going on simultaneusly most of the time. Degrassi is wrestling in red tights, while their opposing school is wrestling in blue tights. We quickly see each school each win one match.
Gabriel and his other team mates, who aren´t currently in a match are watching from the sidelines with coach Petrino, who looks frustrated.
Petrino:
Dammit! There goes our lead!
Speaker (voice over):
After that last fall, we are now tied at four wins each. It´s gonna come down to the wire, folks!
A disappointed young wrestler comes over to Petrino and his team mates.
Boy:
Sorry, Coach.
Petrino:
You´ll do better next time, kid!
His words of encouragement only help a tiny bit, as the boy takes his place among his team mates. Gabriel stands up and looks across the rings to John, who´s getting a talk from his coach on the other side, but doesn´t look like he´s paying much attention to him.
Petrino:
We´re all counting on you, Grizzly. Why do they call you that, by the way?
Gabriel:
Because I can be mean as one, when I want to!
He smiles at Petrino, who gets fired up!
Petrino:
Give him hell!
Gabriel:
That´s the plan.
Gabriel heads to the mat, where he´ll be wrestling John.
We cut to the stands. where Lola looks a little nervous on Gabriel´s behalf.
Lola:
That other guy looks kind of big too.
Frankie:
Is that the creep, who came to our school today?
Zoe:
Believe me, they don´t come much creepier than him!
Grace, Zig and Tiny nod in agreement.
We cut down to the mat, where Gabriel is waiting to step in the ring against John, who looks confident and like he´s looking forward to this. Gabriel plays into his over confidence by pretending to look like he´s very nervous and by avoiding John´s gaze.
Speaker:
The final and deciding match is in the open weight class. It´s between John Dahmer from Sunnyvale High and having his first official match on Canadian soil here tonight, Degrassi´s Gabriel Hall.
We cut to John´s parents in the stands. Jane looks a little worried, but Marcus is smiling at what he´s seeing.
Jane:
Is something wrong with him? He doesn´t seem like himself.
Marcus:
He´s letting John dig his own grave.
Jane starts to share Marcus´ confidence, seeing as he knows what he´s talking about.
Down on the floor, the two of them step onto the mat and square off against each other with the ref getting into position. He looks at both of them sternly.
Ref:
I want a clean match and when I say break, it means break. Got it?
They both nod.
Ref:
Begin!
The two of them lock up and we go in so close to their faces, that we can hear them talking.
John:
Are you here to play ball?
Gabriel:
In a way.
John gets a little worried.
John:
What does that mean?
Gabriel:
This!
We go to a wider shot, as Gabriel takes John completely by surprise and gets him down to the mat in an instant. Gabriel gets on top of him and pins John´s shoulders down with all of his massive weight, giving John no hope of escape. The ref gets down and counts the pin, as the crowd erupts in cheers. Gabriel gets off John, who looks pissed off at calmly walks back to his side of the ring, as John gets up.
We quickly cut to coach Petrino, whose mouth is wide open in surprise.
Petrino:
That was the most brutal thing, I´ve ever seen! I love this sport!
He smiles to himself, as we cut back to Gabriel and John in the ring, where the ref has to raise the hands of the winner. He raises Gabriel´s, but anger gets the better of John, who gives Gabriel a nasty kick to the side of the knee, that sends him to the ground in pain. The ref tries in futililty to stop it, as John hits Gabriel with a hard punch across the chin, that nearly knocks Gabriel out, as wrestlers from both schools come in to stop the assault, that´s going on.
10. Int. Dressing Room. Evening.
Gabriel is having his knee looked at by the tournament doctor and it´s not looking good in that it´s dark blue, almost black all of the way up the side. Petrino looks on with worry.
Doctor:
You´ll need to get an MRI on it, until we can know the extend of the damage. I won´t lie, it doesn´t look good.
Petrino:
How long until he can start training again?
Doctor:
Can you stand on it?
Gabriel:
Not without wanting to scream in pain.
Doctor:
I´ll get an ambulance here ASAP. You´re in good hands, young man.
The doctor leaves them and Petrino looks full of sympathy for his wrestler.
Petrino:
If it´s any consolation, they´ll never let him compete again.
Gabriel:
I don´t think, he cares too much.
Petrino:
Me neither. I haven´t seen anyone lose it that way. There has to be a lot of bad blood between you!
Gabriel:
More than most people could understand.
Petrino gets serious and looks Gabriel in the eyes.
Petrino:
I don´t know the whole story between you and to be frank, I have a feeling that I wouldn´t want to. But I´ve seen what hate can do to people. Don´t let it control you.
Gabriel:
After this, I hope that he´s out of my life for good.
Petrino:
For your sake, so do I, kid.
They nod slightly at each other, before Petrino leaves the room.
11. Int. Hallway. Evening.
Petrino comes out to where Gabriel´s new "extended group of friends" are waiting for news, Lola more anxiously than anyone.
Lola:
How is he?
Petrino:
He´ll need to get an MRI, but my gut is telling me that there´s no serious damage. He´s lucky, that he´s as big as he is, or it would have been a lot worse.
Lola lets out a big sigh of relief and the others look glad for Gabriel.
Zoe:
Can we see him?
Petrino:
I think that he would be very disappointed, if you didn´t.
Petrino nods at them and heads up the hallway. Lola gets a comforting hug from Frankie after her big scare.
Lola:
Thank god!
They see an angry John (now in normal clothes) coming towards them.
Grace:
If it isn´t the big loser?
John:
Get out of my way!
Zig and Tiny get in the way of him and the door, making him even angrier.
John:
Step out of the way or else ...
Zoe:
Or else what?
Little Zoe shows some gigantic balls by stepping up to him and staring him dead in the eyes.
Zoe:
You lost. Learn to live with it!
John:
You can tell that big loser, that his coming out is about to become very public!
Grace:
Yeah, about that. They all know, or at least they will soon.
Zoe:
See, it´s all about whose side of the story they hear first. By the time your side of the story comes out, Gabriel´s side will already be seen as fact. It´s called controlling the narrative, dumb-ass!
John looks about ready to explode and is pushed away by Zig and Tiny.
Tiny:
Game´s over.
Zig:
Set foot here again and you´ll be leaving on a stretcher.
John:
If he thinks this is over, he has another thing coming!
John finally gives it up and storms up the hallway. They watch him leave.
Lola:
Now I´m really confused!
Zoe:
I´ll fill you in later. Let´s go and say hi to Gabriel.
They head inside.
12. Ext. Degrassi. Morning.
Students are walking up to the school and the events of the meet yesterday seems to be the hot topic of the day. Zoe, Rasha and Goldi are walking together.
Goldi:
I can´t believe that I regret missing a school wrestling meet! No, it´s still too weird to say out loud!
Rasha:
I´ll put it on my list of the three greatest things, I´ve seen in my life.
Zoe:
What else is on there?
Rasha takes a second to consider it.
Rasha:
The first time I saw you.
The two girls smile at each other, while Goldi shakes her head at them.
Goldi:
You two! Is Gabriel okay?
Zoe:
Pretty banged up, but he´ll be back next week, when he can walk again.
Goldi:

I will. I wouldn´t worry too much about him, though. He can take care of himself and even if he can´t, he´s got friends to do it for him now.

13. Int. Hospital Room. Day.
Gabriel is lying in a bed with his leg held up in a sling. It´s bandaged up pretty hard, but at least it isn´t in a cast. His mom comes in and they smile sadly at each other.
Gabriel:
Hi, mom.
Jane:
How´s the leg?
Gabriel:
Not good, but I´m trying to stay positive.
Jane:
You have the room to yourself?
Gabriel:
For now.
Jane:
That´s good. Because I gave someone a ride here, who I´m sure you´d like some alone time with.
Lola comes in and it immediately cheers Gabriel up to see her. Jane is happy to see him smiling.
Jane:
I´ll give you your privacy.
Gabriel:
Thanks, mom.
Jane leaves them, as Lola rushes over to kiss him. They kiss long and passionately.
Gabriel:
Shouldn´t you be in school?
Lola:
Like I could concentrate on it with you in here. Girl problems is always a good excuse for a day off, when you have a middle aged male principal, who´d rather not now what you exactly mean.
Gabriel:
You naughty girl!
Lola:
I have to work after school, so this was my one chance to see you today. I wasn´t gonna let it pass me by.
Gabriel:
Do you know?
Lola:
I was torn on whether to read it or not, but I finally figured that someone would be bound to bring it up.
Gabriel:
That´s a pretty safe bet. Does it scare you to know, that I´ve been to juvie?
Lola kisses him on the forehead.
Lola:
You, scary? To me, you´re like the world´s cutest little puppy!
Gabriel laughs.
Gabriel:
I´ve been called a lot of things. but that one´s new!
Lola:
What I meant, is that I could never in a million years picture you doing anything to hurt me.
Gabriel:
I don´t know, if I can guarantee that.
Lola:
I believe it and you know why?
They look each other deep in the eyes.
Lola:
I can feel that what´s inside you is purely good. I´ve never felt than way with anyone, let alone a guy. It´s what makes you special to me, not your size or whether or not you can beat some guy in a match or a fight.
Gabriel:

Lola:

Gabriel:
