A Little Scared
Summary: Lexa, Clarke and the grounder army are on their back to Tondc to see how everything is moving long after the bombs and to get them settle for winter, when they get a little spooky surprise.
Clarke never believed in love, even when she meet Lexa for the first time. Her parents were childhood hood friends, they loved each other, but they were never in love. How could she believe in it, when her mother stood aside while her father died, or when she was thrown in jail for over a year because she knew why he died. When the drop ship came down to earth all she was worried about was surviving, but quickly learn that life should be more than just surviving. She given herself the thought that maybe she could find it with Finn, but that turn sour quick. So when Lexa showed she had feelings for Clarke, she turned her away, feeling like she closed herself off to that. Lexa understood she need time and with that Clarke's foundation began to cracked, until Lexa's love came pouring in. She looked over to her commander whose horse was trotting next to hers and couldn't help but feel overwhelming love for her. She wanted to reach over and grab Lexa's hand, she was close enough to do it, but she also knew Lexa would be irritated with her if she did. To most people she was their Heda, and for most people that means strong, fearless. Most grounders think love is weakness, you start making choice base off what you feel rather than what good for the people. The grounders knew they were together, Wanheda and Heda, perfect match they were just supposed to keep it behind closed doors.
"Clarke, you're staring." Lexa stated.
"Sorry Heda…" Clarke stated, quickly adding under her breath so no one but Lexa could her. "You're just so beautiful." Lexa stiffened for second before awkwardly coughing, shooting Clarke a look. Clarke knew from that look, that she was going to pay for that later on, but she love teasing her commander any way she could. "Maybe later when were in our tent we can have sometime to-." Clarke stop midsentence after she saw the look Lexa was giving her.
"Ryder!" Lexa yelled. Clarke looked behind her as her personal guard kick the side of the horse he was on, ushering him to his heda. Lexa didn't need to look to know that her most trusted guard was within ear shot of her. "We're about an hour out from Tondc. Take Clarke, ride head, she'll be responsible for feeding us tonight." Once Clarke join Lexa in Polis, she was trained in hand to hand combat. Clarke was just as skilled as Lexa was when it came to a sword, but Clarke favorite weapon was the bow and arrow. Lexa had the Polis blacksmith make Clarke a beautiful bow, which was always strapped to the back of Clarke, so she knew this was not a difficult task. As much as Clarke wanted to defy Lexa and say no, she also knew it was defying the commander which was a big no at least in front of others.
"Sha Heda," Clarke said reluctantly. She kicked the side of her horse, telling him to move ahead. Clarke suddenly got an idea, with a wicked smile forming on her features, she kicked the horse once again urging it forward. Her steed was one of the fastest in the army, next to Lexa of course, she knew it would be a while before Ryder could fully catch up to her. Once she knew Ryder was a far ways back she slowed her horse down to a gallop, to enjoy the time alone and the breeze. She started thinking about Lexa and how of lately she's been treating her more like a solider rather than her lover. She underestimated how far back Ryder was, she started hearing a horse hooves behind her. She thought she might be able to hide in the woods, but Ryder was a very good tracker and that would just insult him rather than the one she truly wanted to hide from. She stiffen when she heard her name being yelled and turn to look at the rider coming up. It was Lexa, not Ryder, and Clarke could tell even with the distance between them she was mad. To make matters worse Clarke panicked, kicking her horse yet again, into a full run. It wasn't long though before she could feel Lexa on top of her. She saw Lexa reach out an arm grabbing her reins to the horse urging it to a stop. Clarke couldn't help but think how confused Arthur might have been to the constant of changing speed which she just chuckled at that.
"Oh, so this is funny to you!" Lexa said through clenched teeth, Clarke smile faded. "How many times do I have to tell you? Never, ever run off without your guard! What if something happen to you? What if someone got to you, before Ryder or I could get to you? Do you realize how destroyed I will be if any harm comes to you."
"Yea I do, because I would be just as destroyed, if something were to happen to you." Clarke said breaking her silence. "I thought I knew what I was getting myself into with you, hiding are relationship, but I don't think I really understood it until now." Clarke was looking down at the reins in her hands as she said that last part.
"What-" Lexa voice cracked. Clarke looked up and saw hurt across Lexa features, her eyes unfocused. After a moment Lexa eyes focus on Clarke and her features where blank once again. If the grounder army were to walk past them at the moment, they would have thought that their Hedas were simply having a regular conversation not a fight. But Clarke knew Lexa better than anyone probably even more than herself, and she still saw the hurt that was in Lexa eyes. "So what are you saying? Are we done? Are you going back to Arkadia?" Clarke was shock, she couldn't believe that the commander went there of all places. She shook her head, turned Arthur around, and kicked him lightly, telling him to walk in the direction she knew was Tondc. "I will accompany back to Tondc, it's still too dangerous for you to be out alone. Once there I will have Ryder take you up to Arkadia." Lexa was too busy scanning the area for potential threats she had yet to realize the draggers Clarke was shoot towards her. Arkadia was actually closer to them now than Tondc was, so if Clarke really wanted to go back nothing would have stopped her from doing so, though she didn't point this out to Lexa. "Once there you can decide-"
"With all due respect Heda, shop op!" Clarke exclaimed. She looked over at Lexa who was wide eye and smirk just a little. Clarke soon realize though that Lexa wasn't staring at her but something past her. She turned around to see what had grabbed Lexa attention. There sitting behind the tree line about 20 to 30 feet looked like a grey two story house. There were vines growing up along the house, the window were mostly if not all broken in and the door looked like someone could easily kick it in with no effort. But what really spooked Clarke out was that it was still daylight, but Clarke couldn't see anything beyond a few inches of the window. Making the illusion that someone recently didn't want people looking in even though the building looked like it's been there for years. "How long has that building been there I've never seen it on my travels?"
"Clarke it hasn't, I've never seen this building before it has to be new." Lexa said never taking her eyes off it.
"Lexa look at it, it's old. Buildings don't just fall from the sky like people do." Clarke smirked at her comment. She looked over at Lexa just in time to see the women rolling her eyes at her. "Lexa maybe because it's a couple feet in that it was blocked from all the leave and trees. Now that they're falling off, we can see beyond them, and we're seeing this building for the first time."
"Clarke I lived here all my life. I've taken this path to Tondc hundreds of times. In the spring, summer, fall, winter. Don't you think I would have seen this building before now?" Lexa was looking at Clarke now a little irritated than what she was before. Lexa noticing that the path to the house was too narrow for the horses. "We're going to have to go in on foot," Lexa stated.
"WHAT!" Clarke shouted a little too loud. "Why do we have to go in at all?"
"Because people can be in there hiding out. Waiting for us to past by, and then sneak up behind to ambush us." Lexa said getting off her horse and directing it to the nearest tree to tie it up.
"Why can't we wait for the grounder army?"
"Well why you were too busy with your antics, I had them taking a break to give you even more a head start." Lexa said flashing Clarke a looking clearly not over the stunt she had pulled. "So they won't be walking by for probably another hour or so. And no we can't sit and wait, that'll put us more of a target." Clarke let out a huff as she got off Arthur guiding him over to Lexa's horse to tie him up. She reached up grabbing her sword from the saddle, even though she would prefer to us her bow, she knew in those close quarters it wouldn't be ideal. Lexa smirked at this realizing how far Clarke has come in her training as they made their way up the path. As they were walking up, Clarke still couldn't see anything in the windows but cob webs which was freaking Clarke out. Once they made it up the porch Lexa looked back at Clarke silently asking if she was ready, even though Clarke was getting a bad feeling from this, she went ahead and nodded giving Lexa the go ahead. Lexa pushed open the door to her surprise, not making any sound and was met with pure blackness. "Clarke have you ever seen anything like this," Lexa whispered not taking her eyes away from the potential threat.
"No," Clarke whispered back giving a quick glance around making sure they were still alone. "Lexa, I'm getting a real bad feeling about this, like maybe it's a trap." As soon as she said that, she saw something move at the corner of her eye, but when she looked in that direction she saw nothing. She focus back on Lexa just in time to see her disappear into the darkness of the room. Clarke rooted to the spot looked back at the tree line where she thought she saw something, when nothing again moved she gather all the courage she had, following Lexa into the darkness. "Lexa, where are you," she whispered into the darkness not hearing her footsteps.
"I'm over here," Lexa began a little puzzled. "Clarke I'm a little out of my depth here. The wooden floor boards aren't making a sound."
"Is the Commander of 12 clans telling me that she scared," Clarke teased welcoming the distraction from her nerves.
"You're one to talk Clarke. I can hear your breathing getting louder and faster. Let's just try to make it back to the do-" Something hard hit Lexa in the shoulders causing her to lose her balance for a second.
"Lexa!" Clarke exclaim trying to make her way over to the sound.
"I'm fine," Lexa said through clenched teeth. Clarke turned around obviously going in the wrong direction once she heard Lexa's voice from behind her. Clarke felt Lexa hand come up on her shoulder signing in relief that she finally found her. Lexa's hand moved to her back slowly trailing down until it finally rested on Clarke's ass.
"Do you really think it's the time to be grabbing my ass right now," Clarke said a little annoyed.
"Clarke I'm not grabbing your ass," Lexa seethed. Clarke noted that Lexa's voice was coming from her right rather than right in front of her. Clarke pushed the offender away, swinging her sword where she knew they had to be but not connecting on anything. Lexa heard a sound she knew all too well on the battle field and started making her way to where she heard Clarke voice, a hand shot out, tripping Lexa and making her crash to the floor. Lexa landed in a pool of liquid which she noted had to be blood due to the thickness of it, and scream but was only met with silence. "Clarke!" She screamed out, but was once again silence. Lexa felt the tears coming down full force now, she got back on her feet, sword in her hands, ready to fight Clarke killer. "Fight me!" She screamed, again the only sound she was hearing was her enraged breathing. When nothing came no sound, no sword, no fight, Lexa dropped to her knees crying in her hands. She heard a muffled noise to her left, she grabbed her sword, about to attack when the lights came on. There standing in the corner where she was about to engaged stood Bellamy, his arms around Clarke holding her still with a hand around her mouth. Once he saw the sword in Lexa's hand, he started letting ago of Clarke. Clarke seeing the distress Lexa was in, elbow Bellamy hard in the chest. She ran over to Lexa, taking her in her arms, rubbing her back to sooth her down. Clarke started to notice Jasper, Monty, and Raven walking into the room from a door she had not yet seen. She noticed Octavia standing close to her brother and couldn't help glare at them. Lexa finally stood up, grabbing her sword but she didn't sheath it, instead she turned to Bellamy and Octavia. "Which one of you grabbed Clarke's ass," she exclaimed. Both Bellamy and Octavia looked scared for their lives, but Clarke already knew which one it was and that Lexa might actually kill them. Clarke walked up to Bellamy looked him square in the eye and punched him in the gut.
"That was for making her believe I was dead," Clarke turned to Octavia. She slapped her across the face "you know why I did that." Clarke turned to Lexa who seemed satisfied by putting her sword away.
"Sorry guys, we were just trying to have some fun" Bellamy said.
"It's a haunted house right?" Clarke said.
"Yea, Lincoln, Jasper and I built it. Raven created the black light for complete darkness. Monty created this floor for complete silence. We're opening it up tonight, we didn't think Trikru would want to join in, but we saw the two of you passing by and couldn't help it." Bellamy said a little smirk on his face.
"Maybe we can take this outside and I can wipe that smirk from your face," Lexa said as she was reaching for her sword. Clarke stepped in front of them putting a hand on Lexa's hand stopping her from pulling out her sword.
"I'm sorry, but we should go before she decides to chop off one of your heads," Clarke said pushing Lexa towards the door. Once both Lexa and Clarke were outside making their way to the horses, Lexa turned on Clarke.
"Maybe you should stay here Clarke," Lexa said
"What? Why?"
"I can make the journey to Tondc on my own. I hope that you don't feel obligated towards me in anyway due to what happen in there. I know that we are no longer together and they can take you back to Arkadia." Lexa stared at the ground when saying that last part.
"Lexa…I never said that we were done, or that I wish to go back to Arkaida. I chose this life with you Lexa, and I loved every minute of it. Mostly we have to sacrifice are feelings to be together, for the greater good of our people. But when I can, I steal back the little moments we can have, which means saying under my breath so only you can hear, how beautiful I think you are. Here recently though, you've been treating more like a soldier who's fallen out of line. I'm your partner Lexa, we rule together, Wanheda," Clarke said pointing to herself. "And Heda. Together." Clarke finish pointing at Lexa. Lexa smiled grew as she mounted her horse looking on to the path leading to Tondc. Clarke mounted her horse as she looked back to the house she saw Raven there on the porch waving goodbye.
"Happy Halloween," Raven yelled.
"Happy Halloween," Clarke yelled back waving goodbye as well. She turned to Lexa who had a confused look on her face. "What?"
"What is Halloween?" Lexa asked causing Clarke to burst out laughing.
