My own fanfic that takes place before tensei slime

The clashing of metal rang out through the field. Sweat clung to my shirt as I wielded my massive blade. I swung upward; attack dodged. I then swung downward; attack blocked.

"First time for everything, am I right Segora?"

That was Kieran. He's my closest friend. We both meet with an old swordsman who trains us every day. I wield an enormous 2 handed blade called a Claymore. He dual wields 2 shorter swords.

"Jeez, these things do not help during the summer." said Kieran.

He wasn't wrong. We were wearing all black tunics, trousers, boots and gloves. The dark color attracted the heat and so no matter what we did, during the summer we were more soaked then if we had just jumped into the lake.

"You want to go to my house and practice some magic?" asked Kieran.

"shhhhhh!" I hissed. "Do you want teacher to hear us? You know he doesn't like magic."

"Sorry, but do you?"

I said sure and we headed off to his house after saying farewell to our teacher.

"You really are stupid." I said. "Do you not remember when he caught us practicing magic? We had to run around the lake 20 times!"

"Yeah, I remember." sighed Kieran.

We arrived at Kieran's house and went downstairs to read some old magic textbooks. Kieran's still stuck on ice magic, but I've moved onto lightning. When it got dark, I left and went home so I'm rested cause our teacher has "training that made Satan cry." written in his planning book. In the morning, I got up and met up with Kieran as we conversed on what coffin we wanted after we died from exhaustion. When we arrived, we were pleasantly surprised because the "Training that made Satan cry." was for teacher and we were given the honor of delivering a sword to the King's General.

I didn't feel like it was an honor. I really didn't like the king. He was like any other rich, old fool. I really didn't like him, in fact I hated him and all his old, rich friends. I definitely hated his stupid general and the General's trainee. Kieran and I started on the trail up to the castle. This was going to take a while because we were out in the countryside, which was just barely on the border to another Kingdom called Brumund. We were also a bit away from the Great Kingdom of the dwarves. The Dwarf kingdom didn't sound that bad, but the king we had to deliver the sword to ruled the Kingdom of Falmuth. Once we arrived at the main gates, it still took us an extra 3 hours just to get to deliver the stupid sword.

I had a plan in mind, but I couldn't tell Kieran. He wouldn't go along with it, and he doesn't have the magical abilities to pull it off. His range of magic consists of fire, water, and a bit of ice. I have a range of Fire, Water, ice, earth, teleportation, and learning lightning. He just wouldn't be able to keep up. When we finally got an appointment scheduled, we slowly walked to the throne room. There on his throne was "his majesty" and next to him stood a tall, armored knight who I assumed was the General. Next to him was a shorter, but more muscled knight with blonde hair I assumed was the trainee.

"Your majesty, I have traveled from the countryside to deliver this well-crafted blade to your General."

The king waved the General in front of us. I stood with the blade.

"Sir, I just wanted to say thank you for your service to the kingdom." I started. "but you are relieved."

"Relieved of what?" he asked.

"Your life." I replied as I drove the sword straight through him.

The entire throne room erupted into panic as the General collapsed in front of me. Kieran stared at me in horror as I sheathed the blood-stained blade.

"Why'd you do that." Kieran cried.

"Now that the Kings top General is dead, I can go after him." I remarked.

"HEY, THATS THE GUY WHO KILLED THE GENERAL." shouted a group of guards.

Both me and Kieran turned around and ran for the gates. We were almost there when Kieran faltered and stopped. I pivoted and asked him what was wrong.

"You." he replied "You caused this chaos and you're just going to run away! Why do you want the king dead?"

"You wouldn't understand. I've finally gotten to where I want to be. The General is dead, leaving the King defenseless. So now I can go remove that greedy, old fool from this kingdom, and we can actually prosper! In fact, now that I say it out loud, I should just remove all the Kings, queens, and rulers. Everyone will be free to do what they want, and no king will take their money from them. It will be a utopia."

Kieran just stood there, shocked. He then sighed and unsheathed both his swords.

"I can't let you do that, and there's no point in trying to reason with you."

"Then we fight." I growled.

He swung first using his right sword to try and distract me, and then swung down with his left. I angled my blade, so it caught both swings and pushed them away, so I have an opening for a strike. I almost stabbed him when he blasted me with a wave of flames.

'So, we're using magic now?" I asked.

"All's fair in a dual." he remarked.

We continued our battle, dodging and weaving as metal clashed against metal. We were at a standstill. Neither one of us could win, and I was getting impatient. So, I blasted Kieran with ice and started gathering energy for teleportation. Kieran broke free from the ice almost at once but collapsed on the ground. Black smoke gathered around me and I started to disappear. Kieran looked at me, in pain, but not from physical damage. I hurt him, because I was his friend, and I didn't tell him which made him feel powerless. I could not say anything, so I just blank faced as my vision faded to black.

I woke up cold. Oh, that's right, I was frozen for a while. I slowly got up, and headed home before soldiers came after me. Why would he do this? We were friends, right? Why'd he kill the General? Was he planning this for a while? All these thoughts and more went through my head as I began the long trek back home. I decided to go to my teacher. When I arrived at his house, I noticed that he left a letter for me on the doorstep. It said that... HE FOLLOWED US?

He said that he saw what happened and was very disappointed about us both knowing magic, but he mostly was incredibly sad about no longer having Segora as his student. He said that he had to uphold the principles of his training and that I no longer would be able to train with him. I angerly threw down the letter and stormed off to my house.

I started training with my sword by myself, fighting against an imaginary Segora. He wouldn't beat me this time. I was in the middle of training when it finally hit me. The gravity of no longer having my friend weighed down on me like an enormous boulder was sitting on my head. I crumpled like a wad of paper and fell to the floor. I was about to spew floods of tears when out of the sky crashed something glowing in a harsh magenta energy. I stumbled toward it and there stood a very... smug looking girl. She looked about 16-18 years old, with pink hair stuck in twin ponytails. She was in some sort of battle armor. Everything from the neck down was covered in... some type of metal that I've never seen before. She walked up to me gave a once over.

"Wow you really aren't much." She smirked. "I can help you get stronger, but you'll have to help me with something afterward."

"Who are you." I asked, completely ignoring what she just said.

"You can call me, Meirah. Of course, that's not my real name, but if I told you my real name, you'd run for the hills. I saw your fight with that boy back at the castle..."

'Seriously, was everyone watching our fight?' I thought to myself as she blabbered on about how wimpy I was compared to him. I really didn't care, but she was taking forever.

"... but I could tell that he was not gunning for good. So, I'm offering to train you and hone your skills as both a fighter and a magician."

I have a pretty good sense of honesty and good tell she wasn't lying, so I accepted.

"Oh boy, this is going to be fun!" she exclaimed, clearly excited by the thought of the final battle to come.
