Trying to find your way out of a dark and seemingly endless void is not a good use of one's time but at the moment I had nothing better to do other than sit and do nothing. I was no stranger to dark places but I was growing more and more bored as time passed. At least I thought time was passing, I had been counting the seconds from when I had first woken up. It had been about 2000 seconds since I had woken up and since I suck at math I didn't know how to convert that to hours without wasting hours trying to figure it out. So I just kept walking.
After about 500 more seconds I gave up counting because that was getting boring as well. I knew I probably hadn't walked far but I decided to take a seat for a while and maybe take a nap or something. I sat in a slumped position because I was too lazy to sit ramrod straight and it hurt my back. I was dozing off when I realized that there was someone with me. I rubbed my eyes and looked up to find a white face with cracks running up and down where the eyes were.
I knew who this was and I smiled at him. That seemed to startle him a bit and I gave a small giggle. "Hello, gaster, how ya been?" He tilted his head and two floating hands appeared by his side. The hands moved in familiar patterns. "You are… not afraid of me?"
I grinned and signed back, "no, I have no reason to fear you G-A-S-T-E-R. You happen to be one of my favorites." That seemed to stun him a bit.
"You… understand me?" I nodded "sure do, it's a little hard to follow considering your not using American sign language but I get the gist of it." He seemed pleased with my explanation but then he gave me a questioning look. "But that doesn't explain how or why you got here. It's not possible for a human to enter the void as their soul and body would be torn apart." He leaned in close, searching my face. "So how is it that you are able to do so without consequence?"
I shrugged sans style. "Can't help you there doc. I don't even know how I got here let alone why." He frowned, not happy with the info I had given him. "What about the cracks on your face do they hurt?" I decided to change the subject. His stare was making me uncomfortable. "I have always had these, well after… the accident, but I'm sure you know all about that."
Another shrug, "sure do doc but uh not in the way you think." I Chose to leave it at that for now.
"But since I don't know how long I'll be here if you want I can keep you company." He relaxed and his goopy body seemed to take a seat next to me. "That would be lovely, but you didn't tell me your name."
I laughed, "I can't tell you that either cause I don't remember." I shook my head and laughed again. "I only remember facts about Undertale and the various versions in the multiverse, I assume you know about that as well?" He nodded. "Well, there's your answer doc. I ain't got nothing."
We sat in silence for a while and I was starting to fall asleep when I felt a hand on my shoulder and I jolted awake. "You should not fall asleep here and as much as I enjoy your company we should find a way to get you out. I am unsure of what the consequences of your prolonged exposure to this place might be."
I chuckled, "Aw, kicking me out already doc?"
He rolled his eyes "In a sense, yes I am kicking you out but that doesn't mean I don't like you. I find your personality very charming." I grinned "Thanks doc, I really owe you one." He ruffled my hair. "You owe me nothing. Now let's see what we can do about getting you out of here."
I nodded and stood, as did he. "Now I should warn you that the void is a sentient being and is quite unpredictable at best but destructive at worst." He moved fluidly as he spoke. "And if we're lucky we might be able to convince it to let you leave… if not then you'll be just as stuck as I am."
I flexed my hands, all this signing was making my fingers cramp. That and when I used sign language my face showed no emotion and I was surprised that Gaster could understand what I was trying to say. "Yo Gaster ima switch to speaking cause my hands are cramping."
"That is fine, you do whatever is comfortable." I smiled. "K thanks, so what else can you tell me about this place?" He tilted his head a bit, "Well for starters the Void is made of everything and nothing. And anything that has happened here also has yet to happen… I hope that made some sense to you." I nodded, I was familiar with confusing things because I was a hard-core Undertale fan. Though how I knew that was beyond me.
"Anyway, I myself have not yet managed to convince the void to let me return to my world, it seems to find my attempts to do so… amusing." The way he signed that seemed bitter and slightly annoyed.
"But since you are here it might be possible to get it to let you leave… at least I hope so." I shrugged. "It's alright Gaster, even if I don't get out you'll have someone to talk to." He sighed, his goopy shoulders sagging a bit. " That would be nice though I would much rather prefer to get you out safely."
I put my hands in my coat pockets (which I just realized were the same colors as Errors coat… and was it just my imagination or was it glitching a little as well?) "That's real nice of ya doc."
"It is not a problem… it's just your demeanor reminds me of my son Sans." I hummed at the thought. "Well if it's any consolation he's the one who showed me the wonders of being lazy."
That made the forgotten doctor laugh outright. "Did he now? I suppose he also taught you how to be a punny person?" I grinned. "He sure did, tho my puns could be butter and I don't think I could mustard up the courage to ketchup to his level in pun making." He stopped and looked at me bewildered.
"Did you just…" I smiled wider, "yeah but there is mushroom for more than that you know, he ain't the only fungi around." He shook his head in disbelief. "Oh dear, what have I started?"
"What? That not tickle your funny bone? Tibia honest I thought that was pretty good. Though I understand if you don't find it humorous, just know that I got a ton more jokes where that came from."
"Oh dear please don't."
"A skeleton."
He put a hand on his face and sighed while trying not to laugh, and I grinned. "Do I need to put more backbone into it?" That got him to laugh outright and I nodded satisfied with my work.
"You may be a tough nut to crack Doc, but not even you are immune to the power of bad puns." He shook his head finally getting his laughter under control. "Thank you, I really needed that it's been a long time since I've laughed that hard." I made finger guns, "Happy to help Doc."
Our pleasant conversation came to an abrupt end as Gaster had stopped moving, curious as to why he had stopped. I went to say something when he cut me off with a wave of his hand. "This is a suitable spot… let's just hope the Void is in a good mood."
I gave a thumbs up and grinned, I was sort of nervous about this encounter, but I told myself that I would be fine as long as I didn't do anything too stupid.
I didn't have to wait long as the darkness in front of us took on a familiar shape, and I frowned.
I knew this beast well, the thing that I had put in charge of controlling my nightmares. This was the Ink demon. But what I wanted to know was why the Void chose this form.
"Ok, why did you decide to take that form?" I asked rather bluntly.
Gaster gave me a look but chose to pretend that I didn't see it. "My my, aren't you bold." I rolled my eyes at that. "I chose this form because I wanted to and because it was something your human mind could comprehend. You, humans, happen to be very fragile."
I shrugged, "eh, good enough for me. Gaster, you wanna ask, or should I?" He placed a hand on my head and pat it slightly. "I will take it from here worry not."
Giving a thumbs up I plopped down and closed my eyes, I was tired but I knew I couldn't sleep here. So I sat and waited using my imagination to keep me occupied.
I was in a daze for the most part and a part of me felt separate from the rest, like it was attempting to do something but couldn't quite manage it. I focused on that feeling, digging deeper and deeper until I found what it was.
I brushed against the feeling and was filled with a rush of energy before it was cut off. I screwed up my face in concentration, trying to get to that feeling again. I was stopped by what seemed like a mental block. I tried again, pushing against the block before I finally got it.
The rush of energy returned and I wanted to try making a weapon because if this was what I thought it was then I thought a weapon might be nice to have.
The energy pooled in my hands and I thought about what kind of weapon I wanted. I came to a decision fairly fast, I had always been drawn to scythes and they seemed the easiest to get the hang of. I pictured the scythe in my mind, A white handle with a long black blade. And where the blade and handle met there was what looked like a Gaster Blaster that held it together. I opened my eyes (apparently I had them closed the whole time) and found I was holding said scythe in my hands.
I grinned, feeling very proud of myself, before realizing that Gaster's conversation had stopped. I looked up wondering what was up and found them both staring at me in disbelief.
"What are you looking at? Did I do something wrong?" I asked.
"How did you make that weapon? It should not be possible for you to do so." I shrugged at the Void being, "I dunno how to explain it, but ima just say it was magic. Because that seems like the most logical answer to me."
Gaster had a quizzical look on his face as he looked over my new weapon. "May I hold it? That is if you don't mind my asking?" I shrugged again. "Eh, sure why not." I handed it over to him, he ran his fingers along the blade and turned it over before handing it back to me. "How fascinating, you somehow managed to infuse the weapon with my and the Void's magic. It's very powerful though so it should keep you out of trouble… that is if she is free to go?"
The lanky being seemed to think on that before it grinned impossibly wide. "Yes, of course, she may go, but since I'm feeling nice I will lend you some of my power… That will definitely make things interesting, to say the least."
I felt a tugging in my chest and what I assumed was my soul hovered in front of me. It slowly changed colors which I thought was strange. The Void's claw-like hand held what looked like a glowing purple sphere and pressed it slowly against my soul. I felt a little tingle before my soul returned to my chest.
"That felt weird, also why was my soul changing colors like that?" They both shook their heads so just went with it. "So I'm going to assume that this isn't the last time the three of us will meet right?"
Gaster seemed unsure but the Void said nothing, just kept smiling at me, like it was expecting something of me. "I don't believe that will meet here again but I have a feeling we just might."
Nodding I leaned against my scythe, "Well it was nice to meet you Gaster but I have trouble to cause." He rolled his eyelights but there was a small smile on his face.
The Void had left during our short exchange but in its place was a swirling purple portal. I waved at Gaster before jumping through, hoping that I wouldn't end up somewhere stupid.
Well, I didn't end up anywhere stupid so that was a plus. I landed in an alleyway that was empty and looked around, had to make sure I was completely alone.
I looked down at my scythe and found I had nowhere to put it, then it vanished with a small flash of light. I stood there stunned for a bit before I shook my head. I needed to get moving. I didn't need to be thinking about the how's and why's of things.
So with my hands shoved in my jacket pockets I left the alleyway.
-a short while later-
I found out which AU I was in and it happened to be my favorite. It was a Bittybones Au, and I was now standing in front of Mama Cry's bitty store. I was so excited as I had always wanted my own bitty to take care of. I took a deep breath and opened the door.
A little bell above the door jingled letting the owner know a new customer had entered.
I went up to the front desk and greeted the woman standing there.
"Hi, are you Mama Cry?" I asked a little nervously. "I sure am, are you here to adopt or just looking?"
I fiddled with my fingers, " J-just looking for now."
She nodded "Alright then just go through that door over there and you can take a look around. Let me know if you need anything hon." I smiled and nodded.
'Ok you can do this, just breath'
I pushed open the door and stepped inside. I almost squealed, there were so many adorable bitties my heart wanted to explode.
And while the ones in front of me were indeed cute I felt a tug in my chest. I followed the tugging (making sure not to step on any baby blues or papy's)
I stopped, I had found the more troublesome bitties and I thought 'I want all of them, but I don't have any money.' I was a little sad but I was happy to just be here.
I felt bad for some of them but didn't show it, they might be offended by that in some way. And I didn't want that.
An UnderFell Sans bitty caught me staring and shot me a glare. "Oi, the hell you look'n at"
I tilted my head "You, got a problem with that?" I said a bit snarky. That made him bristle with anger. "Just cause yer bigger than me doesn't mean ya can look down on me!" I smiled softly, "Well how else am I supposed to look at you? I have to look down in order to see you." He glared at me. "Look lady, if yer here just to make fun of me then you can-" I giggled, cutting him off in the middle of his rant. "I'm not making fun of you, I'm just here to look around."
He huffed and disappeared in a flash of red light and I shrugged and continued to look around. I had found a Horror bitty curled up on a pile of small blankets (which I thought was cute). After looking around for about an hour I left the building promising to visit when I had the chance.
-days later-
Apparently, I did have money but since I'm blind I didn't know it was in my jacket pocket. I entered the bitty store and immediately headed to the back of the store.
I wanted to see that Fell bitty, I was going to adopt him and a few others.
But first I sought out the Horror bitty I saw a couple of days ago. He seemed lonely and I thought he could use a friend.
I found him asleep on the same piles of blankets and was trying to figure out how to wake him without getting my hand bit off.
"Hey lady, what you doing here again"
I recognized that angry voice anywhere and I smiled. "Well, I'm going to adopt you and this Horror bitty and maybe a few others." I turned to see Little Red's disbelieving face and stuck out my tongue.
"Yer crazy lady, he ain't gunna like ya. Yer more likely to get yer hand bit off." I rolled my eyes. "I know Red, I did my research."
I got down on my knees and gave the small Horror bitty a poke. "Hey there man, it's time to wake up." He sifted and opened his eyes. He trained his blood-red eye light on me, sizing me up.
I moved slowly as to not startle him. I backed up a bit (while ignoring the surprised look Red gave me) "Would you mind if I adopted you?" I asked softly. I loved bitties and I had always wanted a Horror bitty. I didn't know why but I just did.
He seemed surprised that I asked him that and gave me an odd look. "Why would ya want me? M', not exactly the best look'n ya know."
I smiled, he seemed so shy and I found that adorable. "If I wanted a different bitty I wouldn't be sitting here now would I?"
He was silent for a bit before he answered. "Well, yer polite and ya seem nice… I guess I don't mind having someone like you adopting me."
I smiled wide and cupped my hands, inviting him to climb on.
I held him in my hands as gently as possible while also making sure he was comfortable. "Ya coming Red?"
He grumbled a bit before appearing on my shoulder. "Sure why not lady, he seems to like ya, but if ya turn out to be a bad owner Ima making sure ya regret living." He glared hard at me.
I laughed, "Bold of you to assume that I don't regret living Red." My comment seemed to stun him into silence. I moved on before he could say anything about it.
"I gunna find a Sansy, hope two don't mind?" They shook their heads and I continued on.
Soon enough I found what I was looking for. This one like Horror was asleep on a pile of blankets.
Red called out to the sleepy Sansy "Oi, lazy ass, get up." The bitty disappeared off my shoulder and landed next to the sleeping bitty. Said bitty jolted awake as soon as Red grabbed him by the hood and began dragging him in my direction.
"Jesus Red can't a guy get some sleep?" He asked tiredly. Red snapped something about me adopting them both and they appeared on my shoulder.
I grinned as I made my way to the front desk. I was proud that they seemed to like me, I honestly thought there would be a little more fighting or someone (me) getting hurt. But things had gone pretty smoothly.
In the time I had been in this world I had learned how to open portals and get whatever I needed (courtesy of the Void) and that included food for my new bitties.
I paid for the three of them and left the store. I wanted to go to the park and maybe lay down some rules while I was at it.
