"Don't you understand? I don't want you to get hurt!" You sigh deeply looking down at your dirty shoes. "Look at me (y/n)" Lexa's breath is steady but her whole body is shaking.
"I can't! I can't look at you and then see you walk away!" You walk further into the dining room and lean over one of the counters.
"Babe I... you know what happens if they find out. I don't want that for us, for you" She's still standing in between the door and all of the tables looking back and forth at you and behind her to see if anyone is listening.
"But I love you Lexa! I don't care if it gets me killed! And I know you love me too!" You yell turning around still leaning on the counter.
"I do, I really do love you (y/n)"
"Then stay" At first she stood there just looking down at her feet. She resumed the pose of command and walked towards the front door.
"I can't" You felt your heart splatter when she opened the door and turned around to face you one last time. You didn't even hear all the noise coming form the markets nor the cold wind blowing agains the trees.
"So this is it huh? You're just giving up like that?" You scoff at her and finally she looks remorseful.
"Maybe when all this is over we can be together, maybe find a home outside polis, get a farm and maybe a few kids" Both you and Lexa slipped out a small giggle at the mention of kids, sure you both liked kids but that the two of you could raise kids together one day that was something you could never imagine. "Then when we get old we can tell our grandchildren about us, our story. And maybe they'll ask why I walked away, and that's when I tell them about the biggest mistake I ever made. And maybe, just maybe we can live happily together" A sob escape your mouth as you imagine having all of those things with the person you loved.
"Maybe, I like the sound of that" You smile gently at the girl standing at the door before a tear falls down on your pale cheek. Lexa smiled back at you, a smiled that said 'I'm sorry' then she walked out of the dining room completely. That's when your body finally gave up and became one with the floor. You started sobbing like never before and only one word going through your head made you feel better.
"Maybe"
