My Pumpkin.
Dean didn't like harvest festivals.
It reminds him too much of the past and all the hurt that came with that.
It reminds him of hours spent outside in the cold, watching happy well put together families having a great time and then going to the church, of all the laughter while he was left alone, watching over Sammy and trying to steal some pumpkin pie for his baby brother.
It reminded him of even darker hours, of hours deep in the night, when everyone was a bit too drunk from all the great harvest, hands wandering around to the places where they shouldn't.
It reminded him of all the hurt he went through in these sleepless nights, of seeing John laugh, drunk of his ass, doing nothing when one of the new friends pulled Dean a bit too close, doing nothing nothing when that friend showed Dean what really happens in these deep nights, forcing Dean to grow up even more.
But now Dean was getting ready to go to one of these harvest festivals.
He wasn't ready, not even close, but he was ready to do anything that was needed to make his family happy and show them what a normal life was.
So he dressed up in one of his newest plaid shirts, put on the brightest smile and walked outside to where Cas and their baby boy Jack were waiting for him.
- So boys! Everyone ready for some harvest fun? How many pies do you think we can eat before Daddy Cas will scold us? - Dean picked up Jack, pecking his cheek.
- All of them? - Jack extended his small arms out as far as he could, smiling brightly.
- I don't think so. - Cas grumbled, walking alongside them, a small smile playing on his lips.
- Let's try anyway. We need to find some big pumpkin to take home too, for you and Cas to crave later. - Dean settled Jack on his shoulders, calming down by feeling the familiar weight there.
- And I guess that I will be the one carrying it? - Cas raised his eyebrow at them, making Jack laugh loudly.
- Of course, you are the one with Angel strength! - Jack exclaimed excitedly, clapping his hands before wrapping them around Dean's head to hold on.
Dean couldn't help but start laughing.
- I guess he has inherited your sass. -
- Oh, shut up. - Cas grumbled, already chuckling.
They walked in silence, hearing the music from the festival already playing in the meadow.
Only when Dean put Jack down to go pet some goats did Cas slid his arm around Dean's waist, pulling him close and pecking his cheek.
- Are you alright? You know that we didn't need to do this. - Cas whispered against his ear.
- It's okay. I will let you know if it becomes too overwhelming. And we won't stay out in the dark, so it should be alright. - Dean shrugged, wrapping a strong arm around Cas' shoulders, letting himself relax a bit more.
- I love you. - Cas whispered against his ear before placing a soft kiss there, making Dean's chest fill with warmth.
- I love you, Cas. - Dean smiled at Cas, knowing that this will be a good day.
