Necklaces and Railings
Golden Age. A few months after the ceremony.
"You suppose we're going to get into trouble?" Lucy looked down where her older brother was hanging. She shook her head hoping somebody would come quick to his aid.
"I'll say that I slid and crashed into you."
"And somehow I flew over the railing of the balcony?" Edmund raised his eyebrow, breathing in sharply. He shifted his hands trying to tighten his grip on the stone.
"Um, yes, I guess you did."
"I really am sorry that I asked you to get my necklace, Ed." Lucy said sighing. "It really is my fault and you lost your sword."
"Its all right, Lu, that necklace was from Peter. Plus, I can find another sword somewhere." Lucy leaned over forwards, her hands on the railing. Jagged rocks with ocean water splashing against them awaited the Just King if he did loose his grip on the stone.
"Please tell me your hands aren't sweaty." Lucy asked. She had looked everywhere in the castle, yelling and calling for someone to help her get Edmund up. Unfortuatnely, Peter the High King was still after some of the Fell... which took days or weeks to come back to Cair Paravel. It was her fault that Edmund had gotten stuck.
"Of course not, Lu." Ed lied. Lucy could defintely see that Edmund was lying to her. "I should of worn gloves or something."
"Mum would be so angry if she found out what was going on." Lucy smiled weakly. "Maybe I should try getting you up myself."
"Dangerous." Ed sucked in air as Lucy watched his fingers loosing their grip on the castle stone.
"Who cares?" Lucy said hotly.
"I do. Susan is out somewhere stuck in the libarary... Where did e'rybody go?"
"You're getting tired. I really need to get you up.. I'm way too tiny to get you up, Ed and it looks like you're loosing your footing." Edmund looked down at his booted feet and paled.
"Yeah, maybe you should help me up." Lucy yanked off her cape and tied it to the railing. She tossed to Edmund. So much for the gorgeous cape.
"Is that far enough?"
"Almost got it, just a second."
"Don't hyperventilate, Edmund Pevensie! Please reach it!" Lucy then looked far into the distance on the beach where Susan was running to Peter who was on a horse... with Orieous and the Narnians.
"Oh, cra-"
"Hey, you're not supposed to say that!" Edmund scolded. Lucy blushed.
"Sorry, I hear Peter and you say it a lot."
"Why did you say it anyway?"
"You can't look now but.. um... Peter's back." Edmund's dark eyes widened as he tried to scramble up the rocky cliff.
"Pull me up as FAST as you can!" Edmund whisper-yelled to her. She pulled, heaved as hard as she could till she was almost breathless.
"I'm almost there..." Edmund finally reached the railling.
"Take my hand!" Lucy yelled. "C'mon!" That's when they finally heard Peter and Susan's voices behind them.
"EDMUND! LUCY!" Edmund had finally gotten his legs over the railings when they reached him.
"Edmund! What were you doing?" Peter demanded.
"Lucy! Your cape! That's pure silk! Its all dirty!" Susan said worriedly. Edmund sat down on the ground, tired. Lucy sat beside him, her arm around his waist comfortingly.
"We're were playing around, that's all." Lucy said smilling inocently. The two older Pevensies exchanged a look.
"What were you really doing?"
"Lucy took care of it, Pete. Its all right." Lucy giggled for the first time that evening.
"It was silly really. I asked Edmund to get my necklace." She asked before looking up at him confused. Edmund slapped his forehead.
"I forgot to get the necklace! Cra-"
"Edmund Pevensie! Don't say that around Lu!" Susan glared at him.
"But you and Peter say it all the time!" Susan looked at Peter who put his hands up in defense.
"Sorry. Bad influence." Peter mumbled. Edmund helped Lucy up but the High King noticed his raw and scraped hands.
"Eddy! Your hands!" He exclaimed. "What happened?"
"It was nothing, really."
"What was it?"
"Oh, just the cliff."
"The cliff?" Peter echoed his forehead wrinkling in confusion as Lucy and Edmund straightened to their full heights. While the two older Pevensies pondered what was going on, the younger two slowly slipped away.
"Sorry, about losing your necklace, Lu." Lucy grinned at him.
"Its all right, Peter will make another one for me." As they heard, Peter and Susan call for them.
"Wanna play hide and seek, Queen of Narnia?" Ed asked with a playful smirk on his face.
