Tarot
Tarot slipped down the alley. The shadows concealing her as she wore all black from head to toe. Of course her brother's concealment rune helped a lot too. She found his orange eyes, same as hers, in the dark. He grinned, his white teeth almost glowing in the dark.
"This is it," he said. "You ready?"
Tarot nodded. She glanced down the alley to the street, a few people wandered passed them, but most of the city was already in bed. Turning back she found her brother pressing his finger to the door. His finger started to glow an eerie purple. He drew a rune on the door, the purple followed his movements. The glow spread into an oval big enough for them to slip through.
"Let's go," Rune said as he passed through it.
Tarot followed. She pulled the goggled, that were wrapped around her neck, up over her eyes. The store inventory came into view. Electronics sat huddled on shelves, behind glass cases, and on the floor.
"Yes. First things first." Rune rubbed his hands together. He moved over to the cash register and drew another rune. A smaller oval appeared. Shoving his hand through it he came out with a handful of cash.
Tarot roamed the isles and eyed the electronics. Their dad wanted them to grab everything they could. But nothing appealed to her. Still she did as she was ordered. Stepping away from a thousand dollar camera, she held up her hands. The same eerie purple glow appeared on her palms. "Jack-o-lanterns Rise!"
Bits of the glow broke off and floated away from her. They paused then morphed into large jack-o-lanterns. The pumpkins lifted off their tops with a vine then used the rest of their vines to pull in all kinds of the electronics.
Sirens sounded outside as red and blue lights flashed through the windows.
Rune cursed. "How did they know we were here?!"
"Maybe someone's quirk." Tarot scanned the windows at the front of the store. "Let's get out of here. You ready?"
"As always."
"Bats Rise!" Tarot held up her hands. This time human size bats rose from her glow. Glass shattered as the bats flew towards the police. Gunshots filled the air.
"Call a hero!" a cop shouted.
Rune drew a rune with two small circles in it. "Transport!"
The rune spread out under their feet. They, and Tarot's pumpkins, sunk down in it. A swirl of eerie purple glow surrounded them for several seconds before they rose up and into their living room.
"Woohoo!" Rune jumped into the air. "We did it!"
Tarot walked over to the light switch and flipped it on. Light washed over their living room. "Guess Dad's not home yet."
"He's probably out pulling a job." Rune headed for the kitchen. "I'm starving. You want a sandwich?"
Tarot shrugged. "Whatever." With a sigh she fell onto the couch.
"Okay." Rune walked back over to her. He picked her feet up and sat down, placing her ankles on his lap. "Spill it. What's going on in that head of yours?"
"Nothing."
Rune rolled his eyes. "You now I know you better than that. I can feel something stirring inside of you."
Tarot scrunched her nose. Sometimes it sucked having a twin. Rune always knew when something was on her mind, even when she hid it well. "Do you really like our lives?"
"What?! Of course! We can do anything we want!" He waved at the loot her pumpkins dumped on the floor. "We can take whatever we want! We don't have to pay for anything. Well, stuff like this anyway. Why wouldn't anyone like this life?" He paused and studied her for a minute. "You're not thinking of betraying your family, are you?"
Tarot shot up with a frown. "How could you ask me something like that?!"
Rune ducked his head. "Sorry. It's just you've never been like this before."
"Sorry. I'm tired. This is the twelve job we've pulled off in three weeks." Tarot laid back down.
"Yeah. I'm getting a bit worn out myself." Rune rested his head on the couch and stared up at the ceiling. "Maybe we can asked Dad if we can take a break and go to the beach or something."
"That would be nice." Tarot closed her eyes. She reopened one when her brother's stomach growled.
"Well, for now I'll settle for a sandwich." Rune removed his sister's feet and started back for the kitchen.
Tarot leaned towards the coffee table. Grabbing the remote she flipped on the TV and started scanning the channels. She came upon a news report of the robbery she and her brother just pulled off. A smiled came to her face when the reporter spoke about her bats. It took the cops several minutes, and far too many bullets, to finally bring them down. She made sure to keep the number low so her bats would be tougher to defeat. If she made too many they would have been taking down with one shot.
"Looks like we're gaining quiet the reputation." Rune sat a tray filled with food and a couple sodas on the coffee table then sat himself down. "They still think we're one person."
Tarot hummed. "Let's hope it stays that way. We didn't plan on someone passing the store with a quirk that could see us."
"Don't worry. It was a one time thing. That person wasn't a hero." The soda hissed as he popped its tab.
"I know that. But you're still limited with them. The more you make the less effective they are. And you transported us straight home." Tarot knitted her brow. "That was dangerous. We could have been spat out in front of a hero."
Rune laughed. "Like they could stop us!"
Tarot rolled her eyes. "Some times you're far too confident."
"And some times you're far too worried."
The two glared at each other before busting into laughter. Tarot grabbed her sandwich and flipped the TV to a movie.
