Runaway
"Tarot, what is your problem?!" Rune demanded. He stood at the couch where his sister laid.
"At the moment, you are," Tarot grumbled.
"We're late. Get up and let's go," Rune said.
"I'm not going anywhere anymore with those nutcases." Tarot knitted her brow. "Go if you want to."
Rune ran a hand down his face. "This isn't about that night guard, is it?"
"How could you tell?" Tarot rolled her eyes.
"That happened weeks ago. Get over it."
"Easy for you to say. You liked killing him."
"I didn't kill him."
"You didn't help him." Tarot stood and faced him. "I don't care anymore about the League. I'm not going to work for them anymore."
"Dad won't accept that." Rune crossed his arms.
"I don't care anymore. I'm not comfortable with killing."
"Why are you being so weak?"
Tarot stumbled back as if he had hit her. "Weak? I'm not weak."
"You are so." Rune cocked his head, his eyes taking on a darker shade.
Tarot shifted on her feet. Never before had she felt any reason to fear her brother. But now... she did. "You've changed. You're becoming like them."
"And that's a bad thing?"
Tarot took in a deep breath, closed her eyes, and shook her head. "I don't like how they are changing you. You never wanted to kill before."
"I'm not the one who's changed. You're the one who's changed."
Just then their dad entered the house.
"Dad, Tarot's refusing to go to work," Rune said.
"It's not work," Tarot said.
"Okay, enough." Raven walked over to them. "Rune, let me talk to your sister."
"Fine." Rune headed upstairs.
Raven sat down. "What's wrong with you?"
Tarot frowned. She had told him plenty of times what was wrong. He refused to listen.
"This isn't about that guard, is it?" Raven sighed while rubbing his neck. "Tarot, we've been over this. It had to be done."
"No. It didn't."
"Enough!" Raven stood and glared down at his daughter. "The League has requested your presence tonight. You will help them with anything they need."
Tarot parted her lips but was cut off.
"No! Do your duty to your family!"
Tarot lowered her eyes. She was trapped.
Later that night she trudged along with her brother to go meet up with the League. Her eyes scanned all over. She wouldn't do this. She had to get out of there. There had to be away for her to run away. But where would she go?
Then it happened. A shattering of glass revealed two opposing villains were fighting each other on the streets.
"So cool!" Rune raced closer.
Tarot shook her head. He always liked watching people fight. She took one stepped to follow but stopped upon realizing this was her chance.
With everyone distracted she ran down an alley then another and another and another.
