Decision
Tarot opened her eyes to find a light gray ceiling above her. The clean smell of disinfectant told her she was in the hospital. The IV in her hand confirmed that. Pushing herself up she found Shinso was sleeping in a chair beside the bed. She glanced around the room, wondering how long she had been out. Her body didn't hurt much so she had been given pain killers.
She planned to lay back down and rest more but something popped into her mind. How did Shinso know where she had been taken? She never told him where she lived. So she reached out she tapped Shinso on the shoulder.
"Hm?" He opened his eyes. "Oh, you're awake."
"How did you know where I was?" Tarot asked.
Shinso cocked his head. "After everything that happened that's the first thing you ask me?"
Tarot frowned.
"This." Shinso pulled something out of his pocket. A small round object sat on his palm.
"Is that a tracking device?" When he nodded she added, "Where did you get it? Aren't those expensive?"
"There's a girl in Class 1A that can create anything she wants with her quirk. I asked her to make this for me."
"Why would you do that?"
Shinso put the tracker away and looked at her. "I told some friends of mine about you."
"You did what?" Tarot glared at him. "I thought I could trust you."
"You can. I told them because I was worried about you. I knew that your family wasn't just going to let you go. They needed to be arrested," Shinso explained. "So I set up a plan to lure them out."
Realization dawned on her. "That's why you wanted me to wear your clothes."
Shinso nodded. "I put the tracker on before giving you the clothes. My friend Midoriya and one of our teachers, Aizawa, was on stand by. I called them as soon as you were taken. Then it was only a matter of time to get to your house with the police meeting us there."
Tarot laid back down. She wanted to be angry with him, but instead she only felt relief. Was it really possible she was free from her family? Her thoughts were broken when Shinso appeared over her. His hands landed on the bed on each side of her. "What are you-"
Shinso brought his lips down on hers.
Tarot's eyes widened. She hadn't expected this at all. She wanted to kiss him back but she couldn't move.
Shinso pulled back several seconds later. "Don't ever worry me like that again.
A few hours later the police came to talk to her about what happened next and where she would be living. She knew of an aunt she could possibly stay with. The police contacted her aunt and then told her she had a court date to testify against her family.
And she did. She wanted that life to be completely over with. And she was hoping her brother would get some help and let go of the villain life too. But the hateful glares he gave her during court she wasn't sure when, if ever, that would happen. Still with some help from Shinso and his UA teachers Rune was getting sent to a place where they should be able to help him. Though he still had to serve some time for killing that security guard.
...
"I got a thousand hours of community service," Tarot said a few weeks after her she testified against her dad and brother.
Shinso sat across from her as they sipped their shakes. "That's not so bad considering what could have happened."
Tarot nodded.
"Do you feel guilty about it?" he asked.
"A little," Tarot admitted. "But I know I did the right thing. They won't be able to hurt anyone again."
Shinso stared at her for a few moments. "Are you sure you're okay?"
Tarot nodded. "I'll be fine. It's just something I'll have to adjust to."
"Well, I hope we'll still be able to see each other," Shinso said.
"Don't worry. We will," Tarot said. "After all, I'm your biggest fan. I have to be around to make sure you get into the hero course and become a hero."
Shinso grinned.
"Oh, I also decided that I'm going to become an author."
"Really?"
Tarot nodded. "The school I'll be transferring to has a great writing program."
"I'm glad to hear it. My friends are wanting to meet you. They also want to read your stories."
"That might not be such a bad idea." Tarot reached into her bag and handed him a notebook.
"What's this?"
"That story you read before. I could use some more eyes to see if anything needs to be adjusted. Maybe your friends would like to read this one and help me out?"
"I'm sure they will."
"Well, I better get back if I'm going to make it for curfew." Tarot stood. She walked to the train station with Shinso by her side. After a few minutes his hand found hers. She smiled. While they might not live in the same city anymore, she knew they were going to remain close.
