I know that someone who wakes up from a state of unconsciousness after two months should not remember what happened before the accident, in fact the memory gap could span several weeks, but if he does not remember the characters would not find out what happened, because Felipe is uncommunicative, so here we go.
November 23 (6)
Don Alejandro was no longer able to contain himself and asked. "Can you tell me what happened at the top of that cliff?"
Diego reminisced before starting to narrate, "When those two men kidnapped me for ransom I thought it was the occasion to get rid of el Zorro once and for all. It wasn't difficult to free myself during the night, so after knocking them unconscious, I stole a horse from them and came to the cave to change my clothes. On an impulse I took Diego's clothes with me, I thought perhaps I could pretend that the bandits offered resistance when Zorro came to free me, and he and I fell down the cliff that was near their camp. I would survive, while Zorro would drown, and as proof I was going to leave Zorro's clothes floating in the sea for someone to find. When I got to the cave Felipe was there, because he was getting ready to sneak out with Tornado to look for me, so he mounted the bandit's horse and we both went back to the bandit's camp."
"And what were you planning to do with those men?"
"I hadn't finished plotting that part of the plan yet. While I was studying the cliff wall to see if a descent was possible, Felipe went over to where they were to make sure they were still unconscious. Unfortunately one had awakened, pushed Felipe and attacked me thinking to collect the bounty on Zorro. We both fell before I could attach the rope with which I was going to descend. I managed to break my fall and was only injured in the arm, so I asked Felipe to throw me the clothes to try to continue with the plan. Everything got complicated, the tide was rising, there was little space between the rocks, and I ended up getting wet, which made it even more difficult to get dressed. The undertow pushed me away from the shore, I don't know how I got to the beach, I guess Felipe helped me. Have they given Zorro up for dead?"
"Yes," Don Alejandro said. "Days after they found you, the sea washed a body ashore and we all thought it was him. We even gave him a nice funeral."
"He was the man who fell in with me, he died crashing into the rocks. I remember he was wearing black pants and a red shirt, didn't anyone suspect?"
Victoria shook her head. "The body they found was badly disfigured, though I speak from hearsay, because I didn't get to see it." she said with a shudder. "He wasn't wearing a shirt, Felipe said he took it off, so everyone assumed it was torn in the fall and lost at sea and didn't make a big deal of it. Plus he put your belt and boots on him. Not even your father and I doubted that it was Zorro."
Don Alejandro stepped in to give more details. "The lancers had gone out to look for you and try to rescue you, and halfway they met Toronado who approached them without a rider indicating them to follow him, the horse led them to you, who were unconscious on the beach, and next to the rocks was also Zorro's cape. They found a bandit at the top of the cliff, also unconscious, so he could not tell anything of what had happened. They said the second bandit escaped, because they saw a man fleeing on horseback from the beach. The only one who really knew what had happened was Felipe, who was the one riding that horse. He has been desolate ever since we found you, and has refused to tell us anything more."
"That's true." added Victoria. "He told us to wait until you woke up so you could tell us yourself. I think he didn't want to give up hope that you'd come back to us."
