September 24th.
Victoria was finishing her dinner while trying to hide a fourth yawn. Don Alejandro got up and offered her his arm to accompany her to Diego's room.
"Doctor Hernandez has said that Diego is out of danger and we no longer need to take shifts, it's time for you to start sleeping properly."
"I don't want to go sleep in another room."
"That wouldn't make much sense, you're his wife."
"Do you think I should sleep with him?"
"At least in the same room. I've told Maria to ask two of the men to help carry one of the guest beds to his room."
"But he's unconscious. Won't he be surprised if he wakes up and finds me sleeping in the next bed?"
"I don't think he'll complain if he wakes up and you're there." don Alejandro's face darkened. "If he ever wakes up."
When they reached the room they found Felipe sitting in one of the two armchairs. He got up and asked something by signs.
"Felipe, we have brought this bed for Victoria. From now on we will not take shifts, she will sleep here."
He gestured and Don Alejandro replied, "If Diego needs anything Victoria will take care of it. I think we all need to start getting more rest. You can come in the morning, but knock on the door and wait for her to open it for you, this is her room now too."
Felipe looked at Diego, who seemed simply asleep, with no trace of the suffering that the shortness of breath and fever had caused him. Then he looked at Victoria and nodded.
Victoria felt strange being left alone with him in the bedroom. She undressed for a nightgown and was about to get into her own bed when something occurred to her. She lifted the end of Diego's sheet and carefully climbed into his bed, thinking about lying next to him for a moment. As she felt the rhythmic movement of his breath against her she felt a little better.
"Diego, you need to wake up so I can tell you what I think about all of this." she murmured.
Note: I'm going to let Frapper fill me in on the logistics of sleeping next to a person who is unconscious and logically would have no sphincter control. It's more her area of expertise. I'm going to just assume they had it figured out by that point. I'm not going to let reality spoil my fanfic, my fluffy plot bunny would be sad.
