Trapped in the closet

Chapter four

In the kitchen, Rose opened the refrigerator and began to pull out the things for the sandwich: Peanut Butter, Jelly, and bread. Chad sat on one of the kitchen benches. His eyes wondered down to her backside.

"Okay," So we have Cola, Dr. Pepper, Pepsi, Spite, and Root Beer."

"Pepsi is fine." He replied. He saw a bowl of rubber bands, took one, and wrapped his hair in a ponytail.

"Okay. Pepsi it is," She turned around and froze. "Oh God! He looks even sexier with his hair in a ponytail," She thought to herself. Realizing that she was staring, she blinked her eyes and changed the subject.

"So what do you think about class today?" She asked. Chad thought about it for a moment and replied, "It was interesting."

"That's cool." Rose replied.

"I mean, with the session about lost ships at sea," Grabbing a plate, Rose sat on the opposite side of him and began to make the sandwich.

"I feel so bad for those people who died at sea." He replied.

"Yeah, me too." Rose replied.

"What's your favorite?" He asked curiously.

Rose thought about that question for a moment and replied, "The Rosa de la Casa."

Chad Laughed. "You know, I didn't understand that one." He admitted smiling.

"Want me to tell you the story?" Rose asked. With her answer, he nod his head.

"Well, During World War II, The Rosa de la Cosa was home to the Spanish soliders. Then one day while they were at sea, The Jantos caught up to them, and there was a bloody battle. They had connons, and one of them managed to hit the ship. The de la Casa went down along with the all the solders. The others that surrived, possibly, were lost at sea…except one.

"Jesus," Chad replied stunned.

"Yeah,"Rose replied. "It's tragic. She put her index finger in her mouth to lick the excess Peanut Butter off. Chad watched her before it took him a moment to snap out of it to pay attention to what she was saying.

"Of course, there is the St. Thomas, Melanie de Por, and the Selena Horran that are my favorite as well."

"Really?"

"Yeah, I been thinking that I should go to college to be an historian, I am fascinated by artifacts, you know? Suddenly, they heard a whine from the living room. Chad turn to her.

"Oh…I hate when he does that….coming love! Excuse me."

"Of course," Chad replied with a smile. Watching her walk out of the kitchen.

"Okay. Here you go. one peanutbutter & Jelly Sandwich, and a apple juice," Rose replied with giving him a kiss on his forehead. She walked back into the kitchen. To her surprise, she noticed Chad was looking at her and…shit that nervous feeling come back again. She looked away and he spoke.

"I'm sorry…if I'm making you nervous," He replies.

"Oh nervous? No." Rose denied. "It's just I… she sign in an unexpectedly moment, Chad got up from his seat and walked over to her. Rose felt her breath left her body.

"What? What are you doing?" They were standing close, a little too close. Rose was suddenly speechless. And her shyness had taken over, but she was not having that- this was not the time. She worked up the courage to look into his face, first stopping at his chocker, which was an East High School mascot, then to his face. Neither one, especially Rose would never expect a car rolling up into the driveway. A women stepping out, walking to the door, opened it, and called out "I'm Home!"

"Mommy!" Elijah exclaimed. He was loud enough for Rose and Chad to snap out of their glaze.

"What was that?" Chad asked curiously. "Is there someone out there with your brother?"

"I don't think so. My parents don't get home until Seven. It's almost six…" She walked up to the door, and pushed it enough for her to hear. Sure enough, she reconigzed it was her mother's voice and her eyes widen in panic.

"Oh Shit! It's my mother!" She exclaimed.

"Your mother?" Chad repeated. "Are you sure?"

"I'm positive. Sounds like her in the living room."

"I thought you said they don't come home until seven?"

"They do," She replied. "But I forgot that my mom comes home early sometimes. Oh why does it have to be today?"

"Well, I guess. There is nothing left to do. But to go out there and introduce myself."

"Oh no. Absolutely not!" Rose replied blocking his way.

"Why not?" He asked with a pout.

"Because, I think she is going to wonder why her sixteen year old daughter has a boy over the house. I have to hide you."

With that, Chad looked around the kitchen and replied. "Okay. I think I can either hide under the table or in the refrigerator.

Rose had a suprising look on her face. "Really, jokes Now?"

"Oh! How's my boy?" Mom asked. "How was school?"

"Good. We talked about spaceships!" Elijah replied.

Steping into the living room. She saw the TV playing and Elijah's plate on the couch. She picked up the plate, walked over, and placed it on the table.

"No! No! Not in here," Without hesitation, she took his hand in his and walked over to the stairs.

"Go up the stairs, Make a left. It's the second door to your right."

"Okay," Chad replied with a smile. "But…how will I know it's your room?"

"There would be a Jake Gyllenhaal Poster on the door!" Rose heard he mother getting closer. "Go! She's coming! And be quiet!"

"Rose!" Her mother replied as she walked into the kitchen looking like she was out of breath. Luckily, she didn't see a thing.

"Hi Mom," Rose replied getting the can that Chad was drinking into the trash. "You're home early."

"And in good timing. Let me ask you a question. Do you have a boy over here?"

"No!" Rose lied. "Why would you think that?"

"Who's Chad?" She asked back.

"Chad?"

"Yes. Elijah said you were in the kitchen…with Chad."

Rose had a confused look on her face before saying, "Oh, he meant I was talking to Chad in the kitchen…on my cell phone."

"Oh…"Roses' mother let out a breath. Putting her bag on the table. "I thought that I…

"It's fine mom. You didn't know. Plus, Elijah's five. Plus I know no boys in the house." She watched as her mom walked over to the refrigerator for some water.

"Yes. Young lady. You know what happen last time."

"Yes. I know. I'm not seeing Sean anymore."

"Good. Because you know me and your father didn't approve of him and his lifestyle. So…who's Chad?"

"He's my history partner," Rose replied.

"Your history partner?" She asked. I thought it was Barnes"

"She out at the last minute."

"Oh…wait, you don't mean, Chad Danforth. The one you can't stop talking about"

"If you put it that way-yes!" Rose replied. Her mother smiled.

"Well, you know, if you two would be working together…you know that the chance to get to know each other. Hint hint."

"Mom, he has a girlfriend. If you're talking about that-"

"Hey, you're my daughter. I only want what's best for you. To be happy."

"I know. But I won't meddle in other relationships. I feel it has to be the person in the relationship to make their choice."

"Aww…you're so sweet dear."

"I'm always sweet," Rose replied with a smile.

"Okay, well I appreiate you picking up Elijah this afternoon. Any homework?"

"No. not for Elijah, of course. But for me, Ihave to read a chapter for litteture class."

"Okay, well I'll take care of Elijah. You can go upstairs." and off Rose went.

Hearing footsteps up the stairs, Chad crept his way back into her room before she was unaware he was listening. He walked over to her desk, trying to act natural.

"That was close!" Rose replied with a sigh, closing the door . Looking around at her desk, Chad's eyes spotted a photograph. It was a picture of Rose and an unidentified male in an embrace.

"I thought for sure she caught me. But, we played it cool. Now I have to figure out how to sneak you out.

"Yeah,"Chad replied picking up the picture. "Who's the guy?"

At his question, Rose sat down on the bed and replied, "That's Sean. My ex. Chad noticed that her expression had change and place the photo down. Rose walked over to the bed and sat down. Chad followed suit.

"Hey, I'm sorry I brought it up."

"No. It's fine, you didn't know." She looked over at the photograph before repilng, "I thought that I threw that picture away."

"Who is he? I mean, other than your ex-boyfriend?"

"He's an ass," Rose replied with a laugh.

"That doesn't sound so convincing," Chad replied back smiling.

"I'm serious," She replied. "We were dating for a while."

"How long is a while?" He asked.

"For two years." She replied.

"Wow!" Chad replied surprised. "That's a while."

"Yeah. It was an on-again off-again relationship. A waste of time."

"Why?"

"We had nothing in common. I broke it off with him."

"I never seen him before."

"That's because he doesn't go to East High. He goes to private school. I think that's the best thing." She looked down at her hands, and Chad sensed that something was bothering her. It was like she was hesitating. Not wanting to upset her any further, he reached over and grabbed her hand in hers.

"I'm sorry that I brought it up.''

"It's fine." Rose repeated. "You didn't know. It's cool." She looked up into his eyes. Chad looked into her eyes. He noticed that Rose could be hiding something. Something that she didn't want to reveal…at least not to him. He was curious to know.. They stared at each other for a minute before Chad's cell phone rang.

Snapping them out of their glaze. Chad reached into his pocket and looked at his caller ID.

"Oh…hey, what's up?...nothing. hanging out with Troy. Watching him practice shooting hoops…you done?...yeah…it's cool. I understand. See you tomorrow…bye." And he hung up.

"Sorry. That was Taylor. She calls…to check up on me."

"Oh…"Rose replied, trying not to feel the sudden hurt in her chest. "Do you need to see her?"

"No. She's tired after working, and wants to go to bed earlier. I was going over Troy's since I told her to make it convincing. But if you want me to stay…I can stay."

"No. No. It's fine. I don't wanna hold you up."

Chad smiled at her, and he gazed into her eyes once, suddenly without warning from either. Both of them lean forward and pressed their lips together. It was slow, but gentle. Then something else happened. Chad opened his mouth and used his tongue to prob into her mouth. Rose, who was not surprised by the reaction, open her mouth to invite him in. She wrapped her arms around him, and he returned the favor. Her body felt as though it was about to explode. This can't be happening. This is happening! She was actually making out...with Chad Danforth. This mean that this could be something more than working together. But wait, Chad has a girlfriend. Chad is dating Taylor Mackenzie. This can't be happening. This was wrong. She had to end this...now.

"Wait! Wait! Chad," Rose replied trying to catch her breath. "What are we doing?"

Chad didn't say anything for a moment. I don't know." He breathed. "I think I better go."

"Yeah," Rose blinked, still trying to catch her breath. Chad walked pasted her and jumped onto a tree.

"Hey. Are you sure you can get down?" She asked him.

"Yeah, I'm sure. I'll just slide down. He laughed. I'll see you tomorrow."

"Tomorrow." Rose replied in one sentence before he slid down the tree and ran away. Running her finger through her hair. She thought to herself. "Tomorrow is going to be so awkward!"
