"We did it!" Sonic exclaimed when the fight ended. "Eggman's army is officially kick-butt. We've WON!" He and Penny reached out for a fist bump but the ground shook, interrupting the moment. Sonic quickly grabbed the human girl and kept her from falling, sounding pretty annoyed. "Oh, come on! Now what?! Can't we ever just win and have that be the end of it?!"
"LOOK!" Tails yelled, pointing ahead.
Penny turned around and almost shrieked in fright at the sight of the scariest monster robot Eggman ever created. Its claws snapped as it climbed to the surface. She let out a shriek as it reached out and grabbed her, curling its fist around her tightly.
"PENNY!" Sonic and Tails yelled, their eyes wide. Classic even looked scared.
Eggman snickered at them. "Gotcha! The fortress reactor was a decoy! A true winner always keeps his trump card hidden well until the end."
Sonic growled. "Let her go, Eggman!"
"Sonic, what's going on?!" Vector yelled at them. "There aren't less enemies, there is more!"
"What?!" Tails yelped. "How could there be so many?!"
"Confirmed sightings of Infinite, Shadow, Metal Sonic, Zevok, Chaos, and Infinite. Thousands of them!"
Penny grunted as she struggled in the robot's tight grip as she heard Eggman laugh. "I merely incorporated the Phantom Ruby into this Death Egg robot.
"But..." Penny heard Tails gasp. "That means the Phantom Ruby no longer has a vulnerable energy supply. It's an invulnerable ruby?!"
"A good deduction, Tails." Eggman said, stroking his beard as he glanced at his prisoner. "The Death Egg Robot has...no. I have surpassed Infinite to become the complete and ultimate form. You will be crushed by this Death Egg Robot powered by the Phantom Ruby, starting with the girl!"
"No!" Sonic yelled, his eyes wide with terror.
Eggman continued, ignoring the hedgehog. "And in the end, everything will still be just as I planned!"
Penny let out a yelp of fear as she felt the robot move, tossing some sort of energy at the Sonics and Tails. Sonic grunted, but quickly regained himself and glared at Eggman. "Your plan will end up like all your plans do...with you sitting in a pile of busted robot parts wondering how you failed so badly!" He turned to Classic and Tails. "Let's get them."
The Classics ran off.
Sonic smashed his way through the Death Egg Robot, destroying it with powerful punches. He made it to the arm holding Penny captive and smashed her free from its iron grip. She fell in his arms, shuddering, and Sonic secured her in his arms and used her grappling hook to land them to safety. When he landed, he glanced over his shoulder to watch the Death Egg crumble to bits.
Penny looked up at Sonic, and the two shared a hug.
At the battle field, everyone's fake opponents faded in front of them, and Knuckels grinned proudly. "All right, we won!"
Everyone cheered, completely relieved that the battle was over.
"I knew we'd do it!" Knuckles grinned.
"Piece of cake." Rouge smirked.
"Yeah!" Silver cheered, lifting himself off the ground. "We did it!"
Penny and the others stood outside in the courtyard of the Resistance, ready to part with Classic. Classic glanced at himself and saw that he was fading.
"I guess this is goodbye." Tails said, walking up to him. "Get home safely, Sonic." He reached out his hand, and he and Classic shook.
Penny quickly left Sonic's side and grasped Classic in a hug. "Thank you," she whispered.
Classic looked a bit taken back, but he hugged her in return. He disappeared in her hug.
She felt two hands rest on her shoulders, and she looked up to see Shadow and Sonic smiling softly at her. She returned the smile. She turned to Tails and noticed his sad face.
"Cheer up, Tails." Sonic said softly. "I'm sure we'll run into him again." He turned to the rest of the team. "Alright, guys! It's time we cleaned up the mess that Eggman has left this world in. And I'm not talking about those illusions he dreamed up for us! We need to fix the real world we all live in."
"True dat!" Tails and Penny grinned.
"C'mon, let's go!" Sonic said with a smile.
Everyone cheered.
