A/N Please keep in mind this is the third installment in my Grass is Always Greener series, and if you have not read the other two, or the side stories in Greener Pastures you might be a bit lost. Also, please check out Kay Hau's story Greener Gift-fics for more canon stories to this series, as some elements from those show up later. Enjoy.

Chapter 1: Proposal

Show Ninjago

Something was up.

That was something any member of the combined Garmadon Family could see throughout their game night. Luh-Loyd hadn't stopped grinning the entire time, despite the fact he was losing to his mother far more than usual. It seemed like he was excited about something, but none of them could fathom what.

Conversely, Lord Garmadon looked like he was dreading something. He kept glancing at the clock nervously and fumbling with something in his pocket whenever he thought no one was looking. The fact Luh-Loyd kept shooting him encouraging grins seemed to do little to reassure whatever was bothering him.

None of the rest of the family had any idea what was up with them. Or at least as far as any of them would say. Master Wu may have some idea since he was being more cryptic than usual, though that may have just been to hide he was just as confused as the rest of them. It could go either way with him.

Privately, Morro theorized Luh-Loyd was playing a joke on them that Lord Garmadon was in on. Luh-Loyd normally only had that look on his face when he was up to mischief. However, there were some flaws in that theory. Normally Lord Garmadon would be just as excited as his son was for a prank, not looking worried like he was now.

Still, they all made sure to check their seats, food, and game pieces for tampering in case Luh-Loyd had done something to them. He wasn't as much of a prankster as Lil'Loyd, but he had his moments.

As the game night wound to a close, and they began packing the pieces away with no pranks in sight, Luh-Loyd shot his father one last encouraging look and waved for him to do something.

Seeing that, Lord Garmadon let out a nervous cough as he straightened up and adjusted his clothes. It hadn't escaped their notice that he had dressed a little spiffier than usual for just a night of family fun. He then let out a second cough, and turned to Koko and asked, "Uh, hey, Kokes, can I talk to you outside for a minute?"

Koko eyed him warily, having been watching for a prank the entire night. If it was her that was the target, that would explain her ex's hesitation. He always feared her retaliation when he played jokes on her.

Still, seeing Luh-Loyd beaming at her and nodding for her to go with him, Koko took a leap of faith and followed Lord Garmadon out of the building.

The second they were gone, Luh-Loyd, visibly vibrating with excitement, stopped attempting to pack up the games and darted to the door. After waiting a moment to give his parents a head start, he opened it again. "Come on, we've gotta see this," he whispered to the others before sneaking out after them.

The rest of the family exchanged bewildered glances, before shrugging and following suit. At the very least they could finally get some answers, even if this was just a prank.

Luh-Loyd snuck among the brush until he found where his parents had gone and climbed a tree for a better view once he found them. The rest joined him a moment later, Sensei Garmadon having to lift Lil'Loyd up to reach the branches, and giving Misako a leg up as well.

However, when Sensei Wu looked up and noticed he was in the same tree as Morro, a flash of guilt went across his face and he quietly climbed back down to hide in another one.

Morro's expression fell at the sight of this but focused his attention on the scene before him. Sensei Wu avoiding him was nothing new, but whatever his aunt and uncle were doing apparently was.

It was honestly a beautiful spot. Looking down from the trees, the family had a perfect view of a small clearing near the river that flowed by Steep Wisdom. The grass there was home to hundreds of fireflies that took flight as Koko and Garmadon stepped through it, and the moon overhead made the entire place bright enough to see clearly.

Koko took some time to marvel at the pretty place her ex-husband had taken her to. "This is beautiful, Garm," she said. "But why did you-" she broke off and gasped as she turned back to her ex-husband only to see him down on one knee.

Lord Garmadon cleared his throat, the nerves he'd been feeling the entire night clear in his glowing red eyes. "I… know we did this before, and… yah know, messed it up. Part of that's on me, well, you're the one who left, but-" he quickly cut himself off when he saw the look on Koko's face after saying that. "Anyway! Ever since I found Luh-Loyd and you again, I've been… happy! Happier than I ever was conquering cities and destroying my enemies. Though that is still fun, don't get me wrong. But this is more fun than that." He began reaching for his pocket. "So… I want to keep being happy. To keep having fun with you, and Luh-Loyd and the rest of this crazy bunch we call a family."

"Garm," Koko said breathlessly when she saw what Lord Garmadon pulled from his pocket.

It was a yin-yang symbol made completely of pearls. One side was cut from a pure white pearl with a black pearl in the drop, and the other side was made of more black pearl with a perfect white pearl in the middle.

Lord Garmadon carefully split the symbol apart and held out the yang half to Koko. "We may not be conquering the world, but saving it together hasn't been as bad as I thought it'd be. Koko the Lady IronDragon, you are literally my better half, and not just 'cause you're better at being good than I am. Will you… be my Yang? Again!" said Lord Garmadon hopefully.

Koko stared at him with her mouth open for a solid minute, before diving forward to hug him. "Yes!" she gasped.

Lord Garmadon cackled when he heard that, and stood up again to spin Koko around in glee.

In his tree, Luh-Loyd couldn't contain his own excitement, and let out a loud whoop, at the sight and promptly fell out of his tree, scattering even more fireflies into the air.

Koko and Lord Garmadon wheeled around at the sound and saw their son brushing himself off, and the rest of their audience still in the trees.

"And you call yourself a ninja," Morro called down to tease him, but Luh-Loyd didn't care as he raced over to hug his parents. Lil'Loyd jumped down a moment later to join the hug, and the rest made their way over to give their congratulations.

The moment couldn't have felt more perfect.

Needless to say, the rest of the Ninja were startled when their counterparts suddenly arrived at Steeped Wisdom on Meowthra. Lil'Loyd had picked up his extended family on Ultra earlier, so they weren't expecting to see the giant kitty that night.

"Hey, what're you guys doing here?" asked Spike Kai as the Ninja Force slid off the giant cat's back.

"Dunno," replied Buddy Kai. "Luh-Loyd just sent a message that we needed to get over here ASAP."

"Apparently, there's something he needs to tell us," added Cyan Nya.

"Oh, I hope it's not another bad prophecy or something," Freckles Jay said pessimistically. "We just finished dealing with the last one."

"I'm sure it's not that," Red Nya assured him.

"Is it not merely their family game night?" asked Zen Zane with a frown. "What bad news could they give us because of that?"

"Then maybe it is good news," said Pep Zane cheerfully. "Boy, I hope so."

"Yeah, but what?" asked Cliff Cole.

"Why don't we just ask," said DJ Cole with a shrug, pointing into the woods.

The others turned to look and see the family come back from the forest with Lord Garmadon at the head carrying Koko in his arms.

"I'm getting married, nerds!" he announced when he saw them. "Jealous?"

There was a beat of silence as they all absorbed that, then the two ninja teams burst into noise.

Nick Jay, who as a result of his recent breakup with Red Nya had become very invested in living vicariously through other people's love lives, practically swelled up in delight at the sight of the pearl yang in Koko's hand. "Oh, oh, I love weddings!" he squealed, dancing in place in excitement. "This is going to be so great!"

The rest of the two teams went over to share their own congratulations as well.

Hanging back, Spike Kai subtly leaned over to whisper to his counterpart, "She could do better."

"Yeah," Buddy Kai agreed. "But look how happy the Lloyds are."

Both Lloyds were beaming and chatting excitedly with their family about future plans and how great this was.

"Koko looks pretty happy too," added Buddy thoughtfully, looking at the glowing bride-to-be as she showed the pearl yang to the Jays and the Nyas. "Nya and I've known her since we were kids, and I've almost never seen her smile like that. Trust me, it's worth it."

Spike Kai studied the happy family before him and nodded in agreement.

Seeing them all happy was well worth it.

What could go wrong?

A/N And we have the start of the next part. I know a lot of people saw the word 'wedding' when I announced the title before and worried that Nadakahn would be here. Thankfully, no, the creepy genie is a can of worms for another day. Instead, I wanted to write this to see Koko and Lord Garmadon get remarried. I'd been showing their rekindling romance in my previous stories, and now Garmadon's ready to make it official. I even wrote the proposal scene way back when I was working on In Need of Polish because I had a good idea for how it could go. Of course, not everyone's going to be happy with this. One thing's for sure. Any wedding for someone in the Garmadon family is sure to be crazy.

Updates on Thursdays.

As always, massive thanks to my Beta Reader, Kay Hau. As stated above, she wrote a canon gift-fic for this series which I highly recommend, as well as the rest of her works, because she's really good. Many ideas from this came from her, such as the yin-yang being made from pearls and some of the remaining tension between Sensei Wu and Morro.
