Chapter 11: Till Death Do Us Part

Movie Ninjago

The Sons of Garmadon actually seemed to be surprised the heroes were prepared for them.

No one was sure why they were so surprised. Their 'evil plots' had been pretty obvious from the start, and they were about as subtle as an airhorn in a library.

They also vastly underestimated how many competent fighters would be at the wedding. Sure, they expected the Ninja Force and the generals, but they were not expecting a second Ninja Force fighting them (was Garmadon cloning them too?), the Borg sisters' surprising combat abilities (who knew heiresses could kick butt, even if one of them was a robot), a pack of sneaky college students (what kind of college were they going to?), the Fuchsia Ninja (who invited him?), an old lady who knew Spinjitzu (wasn't she some relative of IronDragon's, that might explain it) or the tiny Lloyd lookalike to have laser hands (is this further proof of his clone status, or does it debunk it?).

Needless to say, in a fair fight, the SoG were beginning to find themselves overwhelmed.

Good thing they weren't really planning to fight fair.

Because they were evil. Evil isn't fair.

"Second Phase!" yelled Killow, and UltraViolet cackled as she ran off to get it started.

"Second phase?" asked the Lightning Ninja, exchanging a glance with a guy in a red hakama who looked like the Fire Ninja.

"That doesn't sound good," said the red hakama guy.

For once the Fuchsia Ninja said something other than 'surprise'. "MECH INCOMING!" he shouted.

The other fighters all exchanged glances hearing that.

Definitely not good.

Killow let out a growl hearing that. "HEY, no spoiling our surprises!" he snarled, punching the pink-wearing ninja in the gut.

The Fuchsia Ninja grunted as he took the blow and ducked behind a flower arrangement, then somehow managed to pop out from behind a chair on the opposite side of the venue to kick Killow in the face.

Griffin let out a laugh at the sight. "Nice one!" he called, tipping his magenta-rimmed sunglasses to the ninja. Some SoG members tried to take advantage of his distraction to jump him, but Griffin managed to dodge too quickly for them to stop, causing them to fall to the ground. Tox, who had been nearby, took advantage of their stumble to start hitting them with a chair.

Luh-Loyd, upon hearing mechs were on the way, immediately shouted, "Cover me!" and broke off from the fight to make a beeline to his Green Dragon mech still parked just outside the venue.

Lil'Loyd, Tiny Echo, and the Serpentine kids quickly ran after him and kept any SoG members from catching the leader of the Ninja Force, all while being too slippery to be caught themselves.

Killow scowled at the sight, and bellowed, "Hurry up, Violet, we're getting beaten by toddlers here!" he paused as three SoG members ran past him, still being chased by a chair-wielding Tox. "And college students! Wimpy starving college students!"

"Spoken like a guy who clearly never went to college," said Paleman, seemingly appearing out of nowhere to lean against Killow's arm. This distracted the giant long enough for both Nyas to land flying kicks to his gut sending him stumbling into Karlof, who promptly flipped him.

"Don't attack the toddlers!" called one SoG who was grappling with Nick Jay. "That's one of Quiet1's rules! No kids!"

"Well, nice to know the leader of an insane cult of fanatics has principles," said Nick as he finally managed to taze the SoG.

"But who's gonna save you from us?" said Lil'Loyd, his hands blazing green and breaking out his old evil cackle as he and the other Lil'Terrors ran rampant.

Zen Zane, seeing the SoG he was fighting looking terrified at the sight of the apparent demon children, said, "I would suggest you run."

The SoG wisely took his advice and bolted.

Meanwhile, Luh-Loyd managed to get his mech up and running, and lifted off into the air to combat whatever mech the SoG had brought.

But once he was high enough, his face fell. "Oh, no way!" he breathed to himself.

UltraViolet grinned back at him as she rose up on top of a tentacled mech Luh-Loyd thought he would never see again.

Looking down at those still fighting on the ground, he yelled, "IT'S THE LEVIATHAN MECH!"

The entire fight stalled as they took in that info. "WHAT?!" shrieked the Ninja Force, the Generals, and Lord Garmadon.

"What's the Leviathan Mech?" asked Sensei Garmadon, who was fighting alongside his wife closest to his counterpart. The two using a devastating combination of Misako's spinjitzu and Sensei Garmadon's Art of the Silent Fist.

"You mean aside from the obvious?" Lord Garmadon deadpanned, as he kicked away another SoG member. "It's a mech shaped like a leviathan," he said as if explaining to a toddler.

"I suppose a better question is, why are you all so surprised?" ask Misako, as she sent another goon flying. "Mechs appear to be the norm around here."

"Because this mech is an old one of mine that should have been decommissioned years ago," Lord Garmadon replied as he used his sword to block an attacker with a crowbar. "Like waaaayy before my redemption arc and the kids were still new at the whole ninja thing. When the Lightning Ninja beat me in it I had to leave the thing for the police. Thought for sure it got impounded and taken apart."

"Fighting it is how I got my True Potential," Freckles Jay added from where he was trying to shock some SoG members, but it seems most of them were surprisingly smart enough to wear rubber.

"Wait! That's how you got it?" asked Lord Garmadon in surprise. "Huh, you're welcome."

"I didn't say thank you," Freckles replied, but Lord Garmadon chose to ignore that.

"Well, how'd you beat the thing last time?" asked Spike Kai, who was standing back to back with Buddy Kai, trying to fight off their opponents without setting the whole wedding venue on fire.

"We almost didn't," Buddy admitted. "We all got caught but Jay, then he managed to tie the tentacles into knots through some trick flying."

"It was epic!" Cyan Nya called from across the battlefield.

Freckles Jay turned red and sputtered, and got punched in the gut for his distraction. Thankfully, Neuro yanked him out of the way before he could be hit again, and Cliff Cole tackled the SoG who did it in retaliation.

"That's gonna take some fancy flying," Cliff said as he held the SoG in a headlock. "But can Luh-Loyd pull that off?" ("Did you just call him Luh-Loyd?" asked the SoG under his arm. "I thought only the Dark Lord did that." Cliff didn't answer and just tossed him into a sand dune.)

Luh-Loyd narrowed his eyes at his upcoming opponent. Back when he first fought it, still green (figuratively as well as literally) and learning how to be a ninja, then no, he couldn't have beaten it on his own. Now, though, after years of practice and fighting... "Let's find out," he said and gunned it towards the Leviathan Mech.

UltraViolet cackled when she saw him coming and sent all the mechanical tentacles out to meet him.

Lloyd yanked the controls to dive to the side and managed to spin his Green Dragon Mech through the mass of tentacles without being tangled within them.

He continued to duck and weave his mech through the swarming mass, trying to get them tangled together like last time.

Unfortunately, it seemed the Sons of Garmadon had learned from his father's mistakes, and UltraViolet was not taking the bait. Instead, she kept the tentacles mostly separated in sections that only moved when Lloyd got close enough but never strayed too close to each other, and never letting him get close enough to take her out.

Luh-Loyd kept trying.

Seeing he needed help, Lil'Loyd ducked through the fight and raced to the Ultra Dragon.

Said dragon was snapping or blasting any SoG that came close enough to it but was hampered from helping more by the carriage still attached to it. With practiced ease, Lil'Loyd undid the restraints and clambered onto the dragon's back to take to the sky.

Having to go against two dragons seemed to give UltraViolet some trouble, but she was still managing to keep the tentacles from tangling while using them to block attacks and swiping at them.

Then Luh-Loyd remembered why Freckles Jay was able to beat this mech when he and his friends couldn't.

It was because Freckles's Blue Lightning Jet was the fastest of all their mechs, and that level of speed was what was needed to dodge all the tentacles. Without it… Well… You end up in Luh-Loyd's situation right now.

One of the tentacles managed to get the drop on him, and before Lloyd knew it, his mech was once again tangled up in the mechanical appendages.

"Luh-Loyd!" shouted Lil'Loyd from atop his dragon, but couldn't get close enough to help.

Down below, the fight at the wedding lost some ground as all the good guys became distracted with worry. The bride and groom especially were looking up with bated breath while also somehow still managing to kick butt.

Luh-Loyd strained at his controls, trying to break free, but it was just as useless as the last time.

Seeing him struggle made UltraViolet laugh. "Hey, Green Ninja!" she called tauntingly.

Luh-Loyd looked up from his controls and glared at her.

"It was you who brought the happy couple back together, right?" UltraViolet continued, looking like she was leading up to something.

Luh-Loyd didn't respond and just kept trying to break free.

UltraViolet just smirked. "So without you…"

Luh-Loyd's eyes widened, and below everyone at the wedding gasped in realization.

UltraViolet grinned nastily, and with a yank of the controls, swung the Green Dragon Mech back, then snapped it forwards like a sling,

And sending Luh-Loyd flying off it and out towards the sea.

A/N I originally planned the whole fight as one chapter, but it ended up being too long, so I split it in half. Lucky you, you get a cliffhanger. If you don't remember, the Leviathan Mech was the mech Lord Garmadon used in my first ever Greener Pastures chapter, which showed how Freckles Jay got his True Potential. It was nice to call back to it here, especially as a mech the Ninja Force had so much trouble with in the past. Unfortunately, Freckles Jay left his jet at home, and now we're in this situation.

Massive thanks, as always to Kay Hau for beta reading and giving ideas. Having a Leviathan show up at the wedding was her idea. She thought the SoG would think it was clever since they know Lord Garmadon likes them.

Also, I found something very cool recently. On AO3, there was a work inspired by my The Grass is Always Greener fic, only it covers what would happen if early seasons Kai got punted to the Movieverse instead of Lloyd. It's really good. It's called Same People, But Not Really by KittyDemon9000. Check it out if you like watching Show Kai adopt everyone in sight.

Next Time: What did UltraViolet really expect to happen when she hurt their son? There is a reason Lord Garmadon called him and Koko the ultimate battle couple.
