Penny let out a frightened scream as the strong wind from FunFun blew in her face, making it harder for her to get to Chris and Francis, who were flat on their stomachs on the ground. The X Cyclone was having its own struggles as well as the robot's wind tried blowing them away.

"We can't stay here!" Francis yelled over the wind.

"Francis, get down!" Chris yelled.

Penny gritted her teeth, trying to fight her fears as she made her way towards Chris and Francis. "Hang on, I'm almost there!"

Francis let out a frightened cry as the wind swooped her away from Chris's protective arms and flew off into the air, but luckily Penny surprisingly managed to catch the human girl, grabbing Francis by the wrist and pulling her down safely. Penny glared down at Francis. "Stay down and don't try any more stunts, ya hear me, Francis? I don't wanna lose you!"

"Right!" Francis yelled over the wind. "Sorry, Penny!"

The pink-and-white hedgehog glanced over at the X Cyclone with worry. "I hope Tails is alright..." She let out a startled scream as FunFun began to crush the X Cyclone with its foot.

"That's right, FunFun!" Eggman laughed from up above. "Show that fury urchin who's in charge!"

"TAILS!" Penny screamed as she watched FunFun slowly press his weight on the X Cyclone. She was about to move forward to try to help one of her best friends when a blue blur sped past her, forcing her to hold on to the stake she hammered to the ground. She looked up in surprise. "Sonic!"

Her grin went wider at the sight of Eggman's face, who looked nervous at the sight of Sonic standing tall and proud, ready for battle. Sonic chuckled and jumped in the air, quickly smashing FunFun off of the X Cyclone, saving Tails in the process. FunFun staggered backwards and crashed on its back in a field of corns. Its fan was still blowing, and Eggman seemed to be trapped right in the center of it.

Penny let out a chuckle as she watched Eggman get blown away by his own creation. "There he goes..."

"STOP IT, FUNFUN!" Eggman screamed as he sailed away. "SHUT DOWN YOUR MOTORRRRR..."

At that command, the motor of FunFun finally slowed down. Penny breathed a sigh of relief, falling to her knees due to the overwhelmed feeling she felt inside of her. Luckily, Sonic was at her side in an instant, quickly supporting her in his arms. "Are you okay?"

"Yeah..." Penny shuddered in his hold. "What about Tails..."

"I'm fine, Penny!" The kitsune called from the X Cyclone. He hopped down from it and joined his friends, giving Sonic a wide smile. "You saved us all!"

Sonic grinned sheepishly. "Yeah, yeah, yeah, Tails." His sheepish expression turned to curiosity. "but why'd you wind up way out here?"

"We've found out that the third Chaos Emerald was in here." Tails responded. His eyes widened. "Whoa, I almost forgot!" He hurried to the hole and quickly dug up, startling Sonic into laughing. "Easy, pal!"

Something rumbled, and Penny glanced up anxiously. "What was that?"

She let out a startled yelp as the ground continued shaking, and Sonic quickly stood protectively in front of her, glaring at FunFun as it arose from the ground. Tails freaked out completely as Sonic shook his head at FunFun. "Cool your jets, big guy! Just let him dig up what he came here for and we'll go away!"

FunFun's fan started up again.

Sonic smirked, putting his hands to his hips. "Guess I'll have to knock the wind out of you!"

Chris ran up to the X Cyclone. "Sonic!" The boy yelled. He quickly pressed a button on the X Cyclone's dashboard and shot the blue hedgehog a ring. Sonic quickly caught it in his hands and quickly zoomed right through the center of the robot, destroying it in a single dash. The robot staggered a few steps backward and then fell forward on its fan, powering down.

Tails grinned excitedly as he finally dug up the Chaos Emerald. His grin grew wider as he held it in his hands. "Oh, wow!"

"Why, Tails, you shouldn't have!" Eggman's voice suddenly rang out. Tails glanced around in confusion and let out a yelp as a robot arm grabbed it from him, secured it in the bottom of its mobile and flew off.

Sonic grinned, narrowing his eyes determinedly at Tails. "Let's get it back!"

"Right!" Francis cheered, hopping into the X Cyclone.

"Francis!"

Francis turned down to look at Chris, who was frowning up at her. "Uh, I think it might be better if you stay here."

"How come, Chris?"

"It's gonna be dangerous!"

Penny frowned. Wasn't it dangerous for him? She had to knock some sense into the boy. "Christopher Thorndyke!"

The boy jumped and turned to the pink and white hedgehog, who was standing with her friends, her hands on her hips with a frown on her face.

"You're not staying behind, are ya?" Tails pointed out.

"All right, let's just go!" Chris sighed in annoyance, climbing into his seat. The X Cyclone transformed back into its normal flight and took off after Eggman. Sonic hopped to the tip of the X Tornado and smirked. "Let's go get 'em!"

Penny woke up to the sound of gun fires all around them. She moaned and blinked. Man, she must've dozed off. She sat up and opened her eyes completely, and she let out a surprised gasp.

The President's army were attacking Eggman.

When Tails flew the X Tornado closer, Eggman launched something at them.

"What's that?!" Chris panicked.

"Whatever it is, I don't like it!" Penny cried, curling up in a ball and covering her head.

"Hang on tight, guys!" Tails called.

Penny let out a yelp as the X Tornado jerked in the air, trying to dodge Eggman's missiles. She and Francis both screamed.

"We're gonna crash!" Chris yelled, clutching his seat straps fearfully.

"Relax!" Tails called from the cockpit. "We're fine!"

"FINE!?" Penny shrieked. "I FEEL LIKE I'M GONNA THROW UP..."

"Just hang in there!" Tails called. He dodged more of Eggman's missiles.

"There's more coming!" Penny said nervously, glancing out the window.

"Watch this!" Tails smirked. He twirled the X Tornado in the air and started firing at the missiles, destroying each one. Francis cheered in Penny's ears. She watched as Tails shot a few holes into the wall. "Hey, Sonic, will that work?"

Sonic smirked. "Perfect!"

The blue hedgehog jumped from the X Tornado and smashed through the circle Tails made. He landed perfectly in Eggman's base and was about to continue on when...

"That's close enough!"

Sonic skidded to a stop.

Eggman snickered at him. "It was a fluke that you pushed it this far! But now your lucky streak is over!" He pressed a button, and the door beside them opened to reveal a giant robot. Sonic narrowed his eyes as Eggman flew up to it and settled himself on the head. "Ready, hedgehog?"

Sonic shot Eggman a thumbs up. "You bet, Dr. E!"

The robot launched a fist at Sonic, who easily dodged it with an excited laugh. The moment was short lived when the robot smashed Sonic painfully into the ceiling. the hedgehog groaned as he collided with the ground. The last smash sent him flying into a wall.

Eggman laughed at the destruction in front of him. "He's crushed!"

Sonic smirked. "Not yet!" He pushed himself from his crater and launched another attack at Eggman.

"The pressure's on now, Sonic!" Eggman announced.

Sonic let out a yell as the robot caught him in its fits and smashed him head first to the wall. Under his trapped prison, Sonic growled. "I've gotten out of tighter squeezes!"

"That's true," Eggman nodded. "But this time you've finally met your match! Guerra-Hard's the ultimate combat robot! Because it's got the ultimate power to supply-TWO CHAOS EMERALDS!"

Sonic stuck his head out of his trap, nodding. "So that's it!"

Eggman raised his arms victoriously. "I've been looking forward to this, Sonic-" He was about to press the button when his phone rang, and he picked it up. "Hello?"

"Sorry to bother you, doctor, but we have a problem!" Decoe's anxious voice called from the other end. "A group of intruders is locked in the generator room. We're unable to determine who's side they're on!"

Eggman raised his eyes in confusion and turned on his mini screen, and Decoe was right. However he wasn't expecting to see...

"Knuckles?!" Eggman asked in surprise. He started yelling at Decoe through the phone. "Those are our enemies, you dumb bot!"

"Then we will eliminate them."

"What are they doing in the generator room, anyway?"

"I am not certain, but they did mention something about demolition charges."

"THEY WHAT?!" Eggman screamed.

Sonic smirked. Seemed like Eggman was caught off guard. He used that as his ticket to push his way out of his trap, using all of his strength to break free. Once he was, the blue hedgehog quickly turned towards Eggman.

"Run all you want, Sonic! Guerra-Hand will sill pulverize you!" Eggman called, his fists clenched as he watched the blue hedgehog run.

The robot lifted his foot at Sonic, but he was ready. Sonic managed to dodge them, speeding up the robot. He took a giant leap to the robot's center.

"STOP HIM!" Eggman yelped in panic.

Sonic quickly jumped right through the center of the robot, grabbing the Chaos Emeralds as he did so. He popped out of the other end, holding the two Chaos Emeralds in his hands.

"NO!" Eggman yelled in panic. "GIVE THEM BACK!"

Sonic let out a yell as the Emeralds began glowing in his hands. He zoomed superspeed towards Eggman's robot, destroying it in a single blow. When the robot was destroyed, Sonic zoomed out the door. Eggman quickly ejected himself for the robot and made it out just in time before the robot exploded in a ball of light.

Sonic zoomed in and out of Eggman's lair, destroying it with powerful punches.

In the generator room, the GUN agents that were sent to destroy Eggman's base glanced around uneasily at the crumbling building they were in.

"There's not much time!" Topaz called. "We have to get out of here!"

"We're still locked in!" Rouge called from the door.

The door had closed on their mission, locking the group in. Rouge and Knuckles had constantly been trying to bust through the door, but nothing seemed to work. However, Knuckles wasn't willing to give up and he grinned. "Don't worry, I'll punch us out."

Knuckles let out a battle cry and smashed through the door with a powerful punch. He grinned. "All right!"

"LOOK OUT!"

Knuckles let out a grunt as Rouge pushed him towards the ground, saving him as Sonic smashed through a second later.

Knuckles shook his head as he watched Sonic. "What a show off..." He glared at Rouge, who was pinning him to the ground. "Get off! I wanna fight too!"

She glared at him through her mask. "Don't give me orders!" She stood up, crossing her arms and glaring at the echidna. "I'm in charge of this operation, you follow my lead."

Knuckles angrily stood up and faced her, fists clenched. "Yeah?! Well, following you is what trapped us to start with!"

Rouge smirked at him. "You're cute when you're angry-"

"WE HAVE TO GET OUT OF HERE NOW!" Topaz yelled, startling Rouge and Knuckles out of their argument, quickly reminding them of the situation they were in. They quickly ran outside as soon as the bomb timer went off. Knuckles, Rouge, and Topaz fell to the sand, covering their heads as Eggman's lair exploded in a ball of light.

Chuck's eyes widened as he watched the whole explosion from home on his TV. "That fire ball's huge! I hope Sonic wasn't in there."

Cream turned to him with a reassuring smile. "I bet we'll see him any second."

Cheese chaoed in response.

Penny watched anxiously from the X Tornado for any traces of Sonic, her heart racing. What if he didn't make it out? She shook her head, narrowing her eyes at the burning building. Sonic had gotten out of situations worse than this, he was more than okay.

She was right. A second later, Sonic hopped out of the smoke, the two Chaos Emeralds in his hands. He flipped through the air and landed skillfully on the nose of the X Tornado, showing off his find.

"Sonic!" Penny, Chris, Tails, and Francis cheered happily.

Sonic smirked at them victoriously. Once again, he saved the day.
