Epilogue: Next To Walk Down the Aisle

Movie Ninjago

After the reception ended, Freckles Jay offered to walk Cyan Nya home.

Omakase was close to the Smith residence so Nya agreed, knowing her brother would be going with Zane to escort Skylor and Pixal back to Borg Tower before coming back himself, and she wasn't keen on making her way home by her lonesome.

And so the two found themselves walking in a comfortable silence.

Jay eventually broke it with an awkward, "Congratulations, by the way."

"Huh?" asked Nya in surprise, wondering what he was talking about.

"For catching the bouquet," said Jay, fidgeting slightly. "And, uh, sorry for fainting too."

Nya blinked and looked down at the bouquet of flowers still in her hands. She then smiled fondly. "Don't worry about it," she said. "It's not a ninja wedding without some drama."

"As if we didn't get enough drama already," Jay said, some of his awkwardness melting away as he joked with her.

"Eh, I liked our brand of drama better than SoG drama," said Nya. "Still, that whole wedding was so ninja."

"Oh, yeah, totally," Jay agreed. He then smiled at her and said, "Kinda makes you wonder what drama our wedding will bring someday."

Nya stopped dead in her tracks and turned to stare at him.

Jay stopped too and looked at her confused, but that confusion slowly melted away as it dawned on him what he'd just said.

For a long minute, there was nothing but dead silence as Jay's face turned progressively redder.

Nya bit her lip and waited for Jay's usual breakdown where he'd curl up and try to pretend the last thing he'd said never happened, as he always did when his nerves kept him from fully expressing his feelings.

But then, to her surprise, instead of shutting down, Jay blushed even harder and said, "T-That is if you want to do that w-with me."

Nya's jaw dropped.

He finally did it.

He was finally able to commit to his feelings.

Finally able to say the words.

The bouquet fell to the ground as Nya darted forward to tackle Jay in a hug.

"I-Is that a yes?" Jay squeaked out as he hugged her back

Nya laughed into his shoulder and pulled back. "I think we should probably go on a couple dates first before we try to get married," she said in a lighthearted tone.

She didn't know it was possible for Jay to get even redder, but he proceeded to do so upon realizing he'd skipped the dating phase and went straight to proposing to her. "O-Oh," he stammered out.

Nya laughed again and asked, "Dinner next Saturday sound good to you?"

Jay's eyes lit up at the offer. "Sounds awesome!" he replied, hurrying to reach down and retrieve the bouquet and hold it out for her.

"Then it's a date," Nya said as she accepted the flowers back with a beaming smile.

"It's a date," Jay agreed, looking happier than she'd ever seen him. His face then fell slightly as something occurred to him. "But, uh, maybe we shouldn't tell the others, at least not for a while."

"Huh? Why?" asked Nya, confused. Their friends would all be thrilled they finally got together.

"Because, well, Nick and Red," said Jay. "Right now they're… ya know, and I don't want to rub it in."

Nya smiled at him fondly. "It's sweet of you to think of them," she said. "And you're right. They're not really in a state to hear about us just yet."

Jay blinked. "Yet?" he asked.

Nya grinned smugly. "I've been giving them subtle Nya Tests, and I've got good odds on them getting back together eventually. If they take their time and are patient with each other they could make it, but it's up to them."

Jay smiled. "That's good to hear."

"Still," Nya said thoughtfully. "If we can't tell the others it feels like we should do something to mark this." She sent him a sly grin. "Especially since you technically proposed to me."

Jay, whose blush had been fading, had it come roaring back as he squeaked, "I don't have a Yang!"

"Neither do I," said Nya, tapping her chin. Then an idea occurred to her, and she grinned. "But I do have this!"

With that, she moved her flowers to the crook of her arm and reached behind her neck to undo the aquamarine necklace she'd been wearing with her jewelry. Holding the necklace out to him, she said, "Here, consider it a placeholder until we're ready for the real thing."

Jay's eyes gleamed as he delicately took the necklace from her hands and put it on. As he did, his hands brushed his bowtie, and he had an idea.

"Here," he said, undoing the bowtie and holding it out to her. "A placeholder for me too." He then paused and looked at the accessory with a disappointed frown. "Though, I guess it's not really your style," he said, wishing he had something better to offer.

Nya beamed and she plucked the bowtie from his hands and then reached up to wrap it around her ponytail in a bow. "I can make it work," she said coyly, tossing her hair so Jay could see it.

"So ninja," Jay whispered in awe.

He then bashfully held out his hand, and Nya took it in her own.

They continued to hold hands all the way home.

A/N And that's the end of One Heck of a Wedding. Thanks for reading this. I know it's not my usual fare, but it was needed to establish characters who will become important later on. It seemed like a great way to end it with Freckles Jay and Cyan Nya finally getting together, though they won't call attention to it just yet. Still, it was sweet to write this, of course, Freckles Jay would finally work up the nerve to confess and would skip dating right to proposing. Go big or go home. And very Lego Movie that they focus more on holding hands than kissing. From now on they'll be wearing that necklace and bow.

Anywho, as I said last week I have started posting the next story in the series, so go check that out. It's a crossover with Monkie Kid, and is called More Fun than a Barrel of Monkies. Check it out. It was fun to write. Here's the summary.

When Buddy Kai is abducted to a new world, he isn't too worried. What he is worried about is the fate of the boy he was taken to replace. Unfortunately, communication is going to be a challenge. MK, meanwhile, doesn't know why he was kidnapped, or who the person left as a decoy was, but he knows he has to escape before it's too late.

Also, if there are any characters or scenes you want to see me draw, let me know in a comment or on my Tumblr, where my username is the same. Check it out, as I've already got some art up. So go look if you want to see Koko in her wedding dress, or Harumi, the Lloyds, Pixal and Skylor dressed for the wedding.

As always, a massive thanks to my Beta reader, Kay Hau. I think Freckles and Cyan getting together at the end of this was her idea, and she definitely helped with coming up with Jay skipping right to the proposal. Thanks as ever to her, and check out her stories if you haven't already.
